horrendous
who cares if the actors are "fun"! the movie was absolutely horrible. and of course what do you come to expect from full moon pictures though? really not much! almost the whole movie takes place around a bar, eww how exciting, no its really not exciting. even though the concept seemed like it was going to be interesting the dialogue and story was poorly written so not much here except disappointment. very boring flick. wouldn't recommend this movie to my worst enemy.

Low budget, but high entertainment!
I really enjoyed this movie. The girls were hot. The story was interesting. The students of a college class puts together "Jigsaw," a mannequin that comes to life, and hacks them up to pieces. This isn't Shakespear. It's better!

I love this movie. it's so cool
Jigsaw is one of the coolest psychological thrillers ever. Most people will call it a horror movie, but it's more than that. It's not just a monster hacking away at horny teenagers. You get to know the characters very well and you actually care for most of them. I was at the world premeier and met all the actors. it was fun. I highly recomend you guys buy this movie. it rocks! Even though the horror and scary stuff dosn't happen until the last 35 minutes, it's still really good. The first half is also interesting. It explains the characters backrounds and such before they are set to slaughter, it's actually kind of intersting. My favorite character was Tawny, she was the cutest and the best. I hope she becomes famous one day.

The Love Goddesses
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (03 June, 1999)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Saul J. Turell
Starring: Carl King
Average review score:

An okay DVD
This DVD is dated. It looked as if it was made no later that 1960. Poor picture quality, and they could've featured more love goddesses.

DVD just like the video
While most DVDs add something special to the disc, this one has nothing new to add. Both the video and DVD have some entertaining clips of Theda Bara, Marlene Dietrich, Clara Bow, Pola Negri, Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe and others, but, unfortunately, the cuts between the Love Goddesses are obvious, as if the producers have done a quick job of putting all the actresses on a list and then splicing from one actress to another, without rhyme or reason. That's a shame because the subject is interesting. Still, if you love to watch some fascinating footage and will forgive the sudden shifts from one actress to another, you will enjoy "The Love Goddesses."

Celebrating the Love Goddesses of the Silver Screen!
This film, produced in 1965, is a wonderful collage of the many kinds of vamps, starlets, love goddesses, girls-next-door and sirens that have graced the silver screen since the turn of the century. See Theda Bara, Pola Negri, Lillian Gish, Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Ginger Rogers, Rita Hayworth and even the child star Shirley Temple put their own indelible brand of love on the screen. It examines how, over the course of sixty years, women's sexuality has evolved, and played itself out in different arenas in film. While some of the film clips are a little iffy, it is exceptionally well made. A pure joy to own if you are an admirer of any of the actresses presented, interested in women's studies, pre-code Hollywood or the history of sexuality in film.

The New Swiss Family Robinson
Released in DVD by Eaton Entertainment (05 September, 2000)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Stewart Raffill
Average review score:

Disappointed
The movie itself would have probably been exciting enough for our family to enjoy. But as an avid user of the tv guardian, this movie did not have closed caption in it and was therefore unviewable by this family. The language was not acceptable. Stick with the older version of this movie if you are a tv guardian user.

two thumbs up? i think NO
this is not the best movie in the world. the plotline seems to have absolutely no point worth looking into let alone interesting. i found the character development poor, but the acting fair. that's why i give it three stars, not one like i'd normally put. the movie from the 50's or whenever it was made is much better. there it's actually convincing concerning the pirates because, hey that was the 18th century. but we're in the twentieth in this new make and it does not fit in very well. this is more of a very young child's movie. the violence is phony, and when the older boy gets shot directly above what seems to be the heart, at first he is weak and everything. then he's suddenly standing, looking as though he's just wearing a bloodied shirt. it's horridly phony.

a gem
This movie contains a nice balance between action on the one hand and the human relationships between the members of the family and the young native girl on the other. The translation to modern times is quite believable, and the questionable elements of the story--for example, how to get them stuck on the island--are handled more convincingly than the usual storm-at-sea. The bad guys are not cliche pirates, as in the older versions, but smugglers. And there's a nice touch in that the leader has pretended to be their friend and has set them up. The silliness of the Disney version is completely absent here, nor are any of the kids brats. Nor does this film have the unrelenting oppressiveness of another film version entitled "Stranded", a film which were better titled "Dysfunctional Family Robinson." All in all, a pleasant, interesting film with good music, good scenery and good characters that will leave you with an optimistic feeling at the end.

The Fanatic
Released in DVD by Troma (03 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: David Winters

CANNES FILM FANATIC
Vinnie Durand (Joe Spinell) is a New York cabbie with delusions to be a legendary film producer. He is obsessed by horror movie queen Jana Bates (Caroline Munro)and making her the star of his movie. Vinnie saves his tips and gets a ticket to the south of France where Jana is promoting her new movie at the Cannes Film festival. He tracks her down in clubs and press conferences but can't get close to her. After her producer/ ex-husband's throat is cut he sets about disposing of anyone else "preventing" him making his movie. He finally gets too pitch his big idea to Jana in her bathroom with the aid of a broken champange bottle. She manages to escape but police are sceptical about her story and think it may be publicity stunt. Vinnie eventually kidnaps Jana and makes his movie but not without a few unexpected twists in the plot. Fanatic sees a partial reprise for Spinell's MANIAC role and although dangerous he portrays a much more pathetic, deluded character but not as repressed or indeed manical. The film contains several dream sequences portraying Vinnie as a successful producer and in these and many of the confrontation scenes Spinell's menacing but vunerable performance really convey the extent of his obsession and instability. Also known as THE LAST HORROR MOVIE its worth watching for Spinell and Munro fans and anyone partial to psycho stalker scenarios. Set against the backdrop of Cannes it provides a snapshot of the 1981 film scene. Not so much a must have movie as a must see once movie.

Funny Horror
This movie features Joe Spinell in a creepy role as stalking killer. He goes to the cannes film festival an kills all the cute girls he finds. Also stars Caroline Munro in a sexy shower scene. This is a must see movie. You have to get it

Nekromantik 2
Released in DVD by Barrel Entertainment (10 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Jörg Buttgereit
Average review score:

Does not have the same tone as it's predecessor
This sequal picks up where the last film left off with a young nurse who moonlights as a necrophile, she reads about Rob's death and goes straight to the grave to dig up the remains and take him back to her flat. Sick scenes of corpes bonking follows but one night she meets a young porno film dubber who is goofy looking and she falls in love, but all this romance leads to a shocking climax. the film is well made but it is ruined by us being subject to real life footage of dead seals being cut open, the cover is nice and we also get a nice CD with it too.

Love Story?
If you are expecting a retread of "Nekromantik" and its intense, disturbing scenes, you will be disappointed. This sequel contains very little of the imagery of disgust that was at the forefront of the first film, choosing instead to focus on the blossoming love story of a female necrophile, her living lover, and the torment experienced over the fact that she is more attracted to a corpse. That said, "Nekromantik 2" is still a prime example of decadent German cinema and the peculiar workings of director Jorg Buttgereit. It contains all the nuances of his other work although scenes seem to go on too long, indicating that some tightened editing was in order. This is even more evident in the excellent audio commentary track where the director and others mention the editing issues. The DVD presentation is superb and contains the usual trailers, biographies and interesting behind the scenes footage. This version also contains a "bonus" CD of the soundtrack for both films. In all, I would recommend "Nekromantik 2" to fans of the first film, those who are really into German cinema, and to those looking for truly depraved video. It is unfortunate that, for whatever reason, Amazon does not carry the first film.

Big and Busty Superstars
Released in DVD by Simitar Video (03 November, 1998)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

So-So
A couple of nice-looking girls but the feature doesn't live up to the title, nor what the cover of the product implies. Yes, they're "big and busty" but some of those poor girls must have gone to bargain-price surgeons for their enhancements. This is more like an "R" rated feature and it's not very erotic.

excellent footage, beautiful women
the footage in this movie is excellent. The women are very beautiful. I would like to see more black women.

very good

The Nude Set
Released in DVD by First Run Features (09 April, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Pierre Foucaud
Average review score:

your grandma in pasties
total waste of time. the "star" never appears nude, but has various sistah relations with women who do. star also has a somewhat skanky boyfriend, with hipstah cool daddy-o relations with women who do. the women who do, do it sleepwalking, with tired music and tired costumes, hurrying through the sets not because they are nude but because they are embarrassed to be in this movie. bought it thinking, "oh, hey, shots of paris in the '50's," but it's almost all stage sets and cheaply done.

Superb in its original context
The airhead reviewer "drollere" can't step out of his/her timeframe to appreciate this movie, which shows very well the almost limitless energy and optimism of the early 1960s, a period I lived through and remember very well; it's hard to believe it ever happened, given the severely repressed and depressed state of modern culture. When film makers try to reproduce those times now, all they get is a fake surface, as in the 2003 movie, "Down with Love". I'm not saying that "The Nude Set" is a great movie, it's not, but it represents the SPIRIT of those times perfectly, and that's why I've watched it several times -- it takes me out of the Baby Bush Repressed Universe.

The Inheritance
Released in DVD by Simitar Video (26 August, 1997)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Mauro Bolognini
Starring: Anthony Quinn and Dominique Sanda
A true diamond in the rough. Pay no attention to the glossy romance cover for this film--inside is a great little movie. Based on an 1885 novel by Gaetano Carlo Chelli, it stars Dominique Sanda (who also appeared in The Conformist and The Garden of the Finzi-Continis). She plays a scheming gold-digger who has her eyes on the prize of the Fiormonti fortune. The money was made by Papa Fiormonti (played by Anthony Quinn), a lousy SOB who in the first scene disowns his three adult children. Sanda marries the most loutish child but is soon having an affair with the rakish one. It's a great, evil (and oddly sympathetic) performance, and for her role Sanda won the Best Actress award at Cannes in 1976. Even the DVD quality can't mask a poor transfer, however, as this film still has a grainy quality, but the luster of this Machiavellian tale still shines through. --Keith Simanton
Average review score:

Good Movie, Really Bad Transfer
Four stars for the movie, zero for the transfer. There is a good story in there, coupled with good performances. Overall a good movie. The DVD transfer is really, really bad. Pan and scan with a disturbingly ugly result. Grain, bad color. Watching it on a large screen is outright unpleasant. Did I say the sound is bad too (dubbed). Looks like Simitar Video copied a VHS tape to DVD. Simitar Video should not be in the DVD transfer business. Hope someone else brings this otherwise fine movie to DVD - properly!

The Woman in Blue
Released in DVD by Pathfinder Home Ente (29 July, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Michel Deville

Chasing the Impossible Dream
Mario Piccoli plays a musicologist who is irresistible to woman and chases la grande inconnue all over Paris. I loved the Paris of 30 years ago, the French country side and the vignettes, like Simone Simon as Madam. Piccoli plays a narcissistic man who makes all the woman in this movie look ridiculous and who solves his problems ultimately with sleeping tablets. There are dreams and flash backs which confuse this story of an obsession. You must love veteran actor Piccoli very much to enjoy this DVD.
