CNN Tribute - America Remembers - The Events of September 11th (Commemorative Edition)

OK
Another person said this and I agree. Most of the video is AFTER Sept 11. Not during. I hate to watch graphic violence especially real life violence but I was hoping CNN would truly show what happened, like they did on September 11, 2001.

I was a little disappointed, especially since they showed a little too much on the actual day and not enough on the video.

Good enough for the buy, but not enough compared to other videos out there.

GREAT DOCUMENTARY!
I've seen other videos about September 11th, 2001, which were also good. I wanted something to see. Something to recodnize with. Though I have too say CNN's coverage of 9/11 is an outstanding documentary of that horrific, dark day. CNN puts all the terrifying events in chonological order following the aftermath. The video starts out in the CNN news room, reacting to the first plane crash at the World Trade Center. It gots some incredible footage, (some I'd never seen before) really took my breath away. The second plane crash into World Trade Center 2, was far the most desturbing piece on the video. Then it shows people falling from the towers and the screaming pedestrians below. It shows the other plane crashes in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. Then moves on to the Anthrax scare and President Bush's congressional speech, which was very informative. If your looking for a straight-forward of the events on September 11, 2001... This is it... GOD BLESS AMERICA.

A time for reflection......
September 11th, 2001 was a turning point for the United States and a day that changed America forever. We lost some of our innocence, realized our vulnerabilities, and came together in our time of greatest need to make a stand. The tragic loss of life will always be heartbreaking and it will never be forgotten.

Among the several documentaries that I have seen on the events of September 11th, I'd have to say that CNN has produced the most worthwhile program to date. Both comprehensive and poignant in its content, the timeline of the attack and events of subsequent months are well detailed and accurate.

Beginning with the attack on and the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers, CNN correspondents report right from the streets of New York amidst the chaos of the attack capturing powerful eyewitness accounts and remarkable footage of the heroic acts of many involved. Moving on from there, the crash occurring at the Pentagon and the downed airliner in Pennsylvania are then analyzed.

In the aftermath of the attacks themselves, CNN examines further events that had pivotal roles resulting from terrorism in America. Operation Enduring Freedom, formation of the Office of Homeland Security, and the Anthrax attacks being the most noteworthy of all.

In memorializing the worst terrorist attack to ever happen on American soil, CNN has done a very credible and worthwhile job in bringing it to the public. Quite moving and even inspirational at times, this is a lasting testament that helps signify the strength and resilience of the Unites States in one of its darkest hours.

Great Events of Our Century - Disaster/Freedom

A simple and quick overview of last 10 decades
A good piece of documentary on the disasters and freedom events that took place in the last century. The film was successful in exerting moments of emotion and retroactive energy among viewers. The disaster part mostly focused on natural disasters and to a degree catastrophes brought out by humans.

I was more impressed by the freedom section. It was amazing to see people feel what I have never felt, being born in a free country. The organization of events and cinematography along with the background music made the picture a bit dramatic but succeeded to capture viewer's full attention. In the end, I was able to praise all those revolutions brought by the repressed and occupied and at the same time, I was inspired to realize and appreciate the value of freedom as I never did before.

Definitely worth watching.

Good, affordable documentaries
The Great Events of Our Century DVD set is a 5-disc set, each disc comprising of 2 1-hour documentaries relating to a theme of the past century (actually, up until the late 90's). While the documentaries are well-researched, the fact that each documentary is only 1 hour long necessitates just a very brief touching on the various subjects. Still, the documentaries are diverse and talk about everything from human rights to entertainment, to wars to science.

The DVD's themselves are nothing special. Full frame, no special features to speak of. However, the fact that there are 2 episodes per disc ... makes this a decent set if you're a History-channel type. The only thing I wish the set had was what happened in the last 3 years of the century (as we all know, there were a few very signficant events just in those last 3 years), but alas, guess we'll have to wait for the "Ultimate Edition."

Horrendous picture quality
This could have been good, if attention had been paid to the transfer to DVD format. The fireworks look more like indistinguishable blobs of light even on a TV... on a progressive scan computer monitor or hi-res TV, forget it. Don't waste your money if you want to see sharp, clear fireworks & images... clearly this presentation was thrown together with no thought at all. Maybe you taped something off cable on new years eve, 2000... if so, what you have almost certainly looks better than this, so see if you can get it digitized.

To the guy from Knoxville TN
I hope you see this!.. I wanted to find out if you could make me copies of your 5 video tapes, and what you would charge me. I wish I had been prepared to do this. I don't see your email address, so please let me know if we can make some kind of an arrangement, I would be happy. Thank you lynda@ptd.net

Reporting of the Events
I enjoyed "CNN Millennium 2000." The only reason I didn't like the video was because this was NOT CNN's coverage. It was coverage from the Associated Press. Several days later, Steve Springer, executive producer and managing editor for special events, told the wire service in an AP press release that APTN was an invaluable tool to CNN's coverage. Throughout the day, CNN was exclusively reliant upon APTN.

However, I really liked the events as they unfolded. I had written a customer review of "CNN Millennium 2000" for both netflix.com and dvdempire.com and e-mailed copies of it to CNN's Paul Vercammen, SHOWBIZ correspondent, in the Los Angeles Bureau of CNN. I told him that it's a historic memento, not just for now, but for many years to come, because it's the only time in our lives will we ever see a new year like this-a new year dawn, a new century, and a new millennium. I also told him that I liked the report he gave from Las Vegas, Nevada, and liked Bernard Shaw and Judy Woodruff manning the newsdesk at the CNN Center in Atlanta. I also told him that I really liked watching the celebrations in the Pacific (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Victoria, and Vancouver, the latter 2 are in British Columbia, the westernmost province in Canada, our neighbor to the north) because it really "heated it up," since all of the United States and all of Canada, its neighbor to the north, entered the new century. He sent me a reply thanking him for the kind words and support. He also told that he liked his assignment. I then e-mailed a copy of his reply to Scott Leon, his boss, in the New York Bureau of CNN.

Because the box does not tell the cast and crew. I would also like to give the director. They were Richard Kaplan, CNN/US President, and Suzanne Spurgeon, CNN Vice-President and Los Angeles Bureau Chief.

Avoid this one like the plague!
This is the worst compilation of film clips (all silent, by the way) that I have ever seen. The over-dubbed music score is execrable. The producers of this one should be prosecuted for pollution!
