The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom
Released in DVD by Warner Home Video (02 April, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Michael Ritchie
Directed by Michael Ritchie (The Candidate) with an eye toward his terrific 1970s legacy of social and political satires, this 1993 HBO comedy stars Holly Hunter as the real-life Texas woman who solicited a killer to aid her daughter's dream of becoming a high school cheerleader. Hunter is remarkable in the lead, somehow both scary and sympathetic. But it is Ritchie who gets to the heart of the matter in the aftermath of the murder, when there is a mad scramble by the media and Hollywood to package the absurdist atrocity for their own ends. One of the director's more biting studies of the shadow side of ritual Americana, this is not for anyone looking for a bull docudrama. --Tom Keogh

The Positively Wonderful Holly Hunter!
Holly Hunter gives a great performance in a HBO movie that was perfect for her. The story centers around a woman who wants to have her daughter's cheerleading rival axed to assure her daughter a spot on the cheerleading squad. All the actors do a great job but it is Holly Hunter that nails her role and keeps you glued to the set. The director did a great job of not making the character someone that you hated completely, instead showing a woman that doesn't realize how horrific her actions truely are. Also stars Beau Bridges.

Too Good To Be True!
Simply stating that this movie is good is an understatement! Holly Hunter's performance with an outstanding supporting cast was spectacular. I have seen this film too many times to count. The script isn't cheesey and no one actually is portrayed as a victim. Every character had a wonderful human touch. Great performance of a real life event.

Almost too convincing
This movie succeeds in being hugely entertaining thanks to Holly Hunter's amazing performance in the title role. She is thoroughly convincing as the trashy, pushy mom who's dedication to the success of her daughter's future as a cheerleader eventually leads to attempted murder. The realism is heightened by the use of restaged media footage, and "interviews" with Hunter (in character), who's cracked logic and twitchy mannerisms will have you in stitches. All the performances are good, and the result is a very black comedy that effectively ridicules this misguided woman's bizarre and near-deadly obsession with success and one-upmanship. Recommended, as it works on so many levels.

Cheerleader Autopsy
Released in DVD by Sub Rosa Studios Llc (25 November, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Brian Smith
Average review score:

The Best Cheerleader Movie I've Ever Seen.
The story of Cheerleader Autopsy had to be told, and this film is the direct result of that telling. The movie documents the horrible fate of a group of cheerleaders who depart from their school (Stinkwater High) for a cheerleader camp/competition. Look for lots of gross dead people, a dog that pees too much, spanking, boobs and more dead cheerleaders than you can shake a stick at...if you're prone to shaking sticks at things.

I believe that it is only fair to say that this is also the ONLY cheerleader movie that I've ever seen.

But I'm A Cheerleader
Released in DVD by Universal Studios (03 October, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Jamie Babbit
Starring: Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall
A promising comedy that goes awry all too early, But I'm a Cheerleader concerns a misunderstood high school kid (Natasha Lyonne) whose parents send her to a harsh, homosexual-rehabilitation camp despite a lack of evidence that she's gay. Ruled with an iron fist by a fascist counselor (Cathy Moriarty), the clinic only drives Lyonne's character toward an attraction to a rebellious tomboy (Clea DuVall), though screenwriter Brian Wayne Peterson and director Jamie Babbit are curiously intent on keeping the two apart and depriving the audience of other comic possibilities. Meanwhile, hoary clichés abound: prancing boys, butch gays, lipstick lesbians. Despite a fine cast full of young talent, and cameo appearances by Julie Delpy and RuPaul Charles, this attempt to skewer a present-day trend in "curing" homosexuals of their sexual preferences is flattened by stereotypes and unimaginative thinking. --Tom Keogh

For everyone who was told they were gay.
Ok I LOVED this movie. I absolutly loved it. Some of the scenes were hilarious.(sp?) It was just a funny all around story. Basic plot: Highschool chearleader arrives home from school one day and finds that she has her very own intervention. It seems her family, friends, and boyfriend thinks she's a gay (loved Rupal in this movie). She is sent off to True Intentions to get all hetrosexualed up. Everything's going well except for one teeny tiny little problem. She falls in love.

There's more to it. Lots of funny characters. Lots of funny scenes. And gosh its just funny to see a spoof off those places that tell you that they can make you straight.

Definitly a movie to see if you're in the mood to laugh.

Everyone should watch this movie!!
This has to be one of my favorite movies ever!! This film has made me laugh hysterically and still manages to be touching and sweet. It has one the best love scenes I've seen in a movie and the soundtrack is fantastic!

EXcellant hilarious and also touching
hilarious movie about a girl(natasha lyonne) who gets sent to a camp called true directions to try to "change her ways." she becomes frines with clea duvall and then more then friends as they fall in love. natsaha lyonnne and clea duvall do a great job as well as cathy moriarity(who runs the camp with her son eddie ciberian. and rupaul(playing a man)a counselor at the camp. i like this movie because it shows you should be who you are and dont let anyone tell you differently. i have seen this many times and i think it is touching at the end what natasha does to prove her love. this is a movie to treasure.

Lightweight and extremely entertaining
Possibly one of the best gay & lesbian interest comedies in recent years (far eclipsing the sentimental and condescending 'Jeffrey' in terms of likeability), 'But I'm a Cheerleader' charts the story of a teenager's coming-to-terms with her homosexuality, via a summer camp that attempts to train gay teens to be straight.

Natasha Lyonne gives an extremely endearing performance as the hapless Megan (she's a comic actress of note: her timing is excellent and she has one of the most expressive faces of recent years), who is trying to please her family & friends by becoming straight. Cathy Moriarty gives a typecast (but excellent) performance as the Joan Crawford-esque camp leader and a fantastic cameo by a drag-free RuPaul as an ex-gay Camp Leader completes the ensemble cast.

The script is simplistic but does the job, and the real joy of the film lies in the likeable visual cliches of the 'True Directions' camp - the blue and pink dormitories, the plywood silhouettes of men doing manly things, and the debutante-like graduation party at the end of the movie all come together to make something sweet, lighthearted and genuinely funny.

Highly recommended for all fans of comedy, 'But I'm a Cheerleader' is a very charming, lighthearted look at the effects of peer pressure.

(Also, to note, a cameo by Mink Stole as Megan's mother - from 'Pink Flamingoes' and 'Serial Mom' to possibly the most unglamorous woman on the planet!!)

You Don't Have to Be "GAY" To Love This Movie
I am about as straight as straight could be, and mind you, I have absolutely "nothing" against anyone's sexual preferences. Otherwise, I don't think I would have even watched this movie, let alone give it 5 stars. Matter of fact I live in the next town over form the Lesbian Capitol of Massachusetts, and they're some of the BEST people you'd EVER want to know.I agree with the other reviewer on here who says you do NOT have to be Gay to enjoy this movie. It's just a really feel-good type of flick, about a young school-aged Cheerleader coming to grips with her sexuality.I caught it one night on IFC, (Independent Film Channel) on Satellite TV with my wife, as we were flicking through the channels, and we both absolutely loved it. It's funny as hell. The humor is dry & witty. We even have Richard Moll, (Bull, from Night Court) playing one half of a gay couple, and he has HAIR, by God. Although that's been known now for awhile. We even have Ru Paul OUT, (literally) of DRAG, in this flick.I would compare this movie closely to like a John Waters flick, (Think Hairspray, Polyester Gen), in terms of humor. If you like this kind of humor, as much as I do, then I think you'll really enjoy this film?We missed about the first 15min. of this on IFC, but we finally tracked down the OOP release of this, brand-new, and sealed for $10. Can't beat that price for this great movie.Even Roger Ebert's comments are on the cover of this movie. "A Very Funny Movie"- Roger Ebert, Roger Ebert & The Movies. Of course I didn't know this was on the cover until I bought it, but if you trust Roger Eberts reviews like I do, then go for it, and get this flick. You won't be disappointed.

WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!!
Wow...I am as Straight as Straight can be but this was an awesome movie...ok if you wanna know how i say this my best friend is a Lesbian and she told me I had to watch this movie...i was apprehensive at first, but it turned out to be awesome...plus Clea DuVall is one of the hottest people in the entire world....I would recommend this movie to people who are Gay or Straight...but you have to have a sense of humor...and understand that there is no "root"!

Cheerleader Massacre
Released in DVD by New Concorde Home En (08 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Jim Wynorski

not bad for a slasher movie
The plot is ok, there are nudity but not many though. The way the victims died wasnt horrifying at all. I guess my expectation was a little higher. The lovemaking scenes was not erotic though. If u r thinking of buying this movie is best that u might want to skip this one.

Better soft core porn than slasher flick (not a compliment)
Sales for "Cheerleader Massacre" would probably do a lot better if this 2000 direct of video release was listed under some sort of soft porn category into of being labeled a slasher flick. This is supposed to be the four film in the series "The Slumber Party Massacre," which produced films in 1982, 1987, and 1990. In fact, Brinke Stevens is once again playing Linda, her original role in first film. But for some reason the producers decided to trade in the cache, so to speak, of the series title and come up with something different. Is it because they think "Cherrleader" conjurs up more notions of sex than "Slumber Party"? Or is it because they noticed the story here is not about a slumber party? The plot--no, strike that: the setup for the massacre is that five high school cheerleaders to to a cabin the woods for a weekend getaway with their coach (Tamie Sheffield, whom you might recognize from "Fear Factor" in 2001) and a couple of jocks who show up to see what is happening. A crazy guy comes along and starts killing them, but not before we are treated to several scenes involving showers, bubble baths, and chocolate sauce.

The only real question here is whether in the final analysis "Cheerleader Massacre" is a worse example of slasher flick or a soft-core film. There has always been a connection between sex and death in splatter flicks, something we have understood ever since good girl Laurie Strode was the only one of her peer group to get out alive in "Halloween." Even when "Scream" made a point of the heroine not being a virgin, it only reinforced the idea that the subtext for such movies was that bad things happen to young people who have sex. If you think sexually transmitted diseases are bad, then you just wait until some guy with a knife, machette, chainsaw, or whatever comes after you.

But here the sex is way out in front. The only bit of gratuitous cheerleading comes at the start of the film, and even then there are no outfits. From then on there is little wearing of much clothing by these cheerleaders. In the end I have to write this film off more as porn that slasher because the acting is closer to the nadir represented by skin flicks than the wooden and unprofessional performances you often find in splatter flicks, especailly of the direct to video variety. In fact, one of the actresses has made dozens of hard core films. You should be able to pick her out, at which point you will realize that her acting really puts the rest of this cast to shame (which is not a good thing).

If you check this out for blood, guts, and gory, then you are definitely in the wrong aisle. If you are looking for a film with multiple shower scenes, then you may well end up being content with this tacky little film. I guess they could not work "Shower" and "Massacre" into the title, although you would think you would not need a lot of imagination to do that. Finally, if you are really looking for a slasher film with cheerleaders, then you are forced to go check out "Cheerleader Camp."

HOTTIES!
This is well worth buying for the nudity alone! Who cares how cheaply made this movie was! If you want naked babes this should be on the top of your "buy" list. Just don't forget about the deleted scene in the special features.

oooh my, where do i start?
lets just say i'm glad i rented this instead of buying it, thank god!! this is one of the worst movies of all time if not the worst and i'm dead serious!! don't believe me? just rent it and check it out. i've never seen such nonsense before in all my life. and someone gave this 4 stars? guess somebody helped make the movie or somethin. anyways most of the movie is at the head cheerleaders house. people keep calling her and coming over to her house, like 10 different people swing by her place to talk and do nothin, i mean some of the worst dialogue ever. i just can't believe how somethin so stupid got made. wow, well you've been warned everybody!

Don't mess with her, she's a cheerleader!!!!!
For fans of the schlocky, gratuitous horror genre, this movie will not disappoint! But, this movie also has a strong sense of fun. Throughout the movie we are constantly reminded that this is supposed to be cheesy, and that all the actors, and the director are in on the joke. This is seen no sooner that the opening credits when the director has included a sound bite of a concerned Southern parent "warning" the director that if violence occurs toward her Cheerleader daughter as a result of the film, he will be sued relentlessly! Four stars only because the Head Cheerleader Heather (Tasha Biering) spends way too much time on the phone, and at the door. But lots of lively performances pick the film up. If nothing else, it's a guilty pleasure to indulge in.
