Annapolis:Heavy Weather Sailing

Might be a good DVD for a beginning sailor
I've been sailing for 18 years and have about 3,000 miles of offshore experience that includes some pretty nasty weather. I picked up this video looking to further my education and find something that I could share with less-experienced crew members who help me on deliveries.

This rather short (55 minute) DVD would be an OK intro to the basics of heavy weather sailing for a beginning sailor, but doesn't have much to offer to anyone who's spent some time out on the water in rough weather.

One of the curious things about this video is its lack of heavy weather footage. A good portion of the video was filmed in weather where there isn't even a visible white cap on the water and the boat appears to actually be motor-sailing in more than a few shots! The "exciting footage from the Whitbread Round the World Race" that's promised on the box amounts to a minute or two of brief clips.

The narrator has a strange aversion to roller-furling headsails and spends a fair amount of the video demontrating how to crawl up on the foredeck to change a hanked-on headsail. It's true that roller furlers can be a problem in heavy weather if not handled properly, but the narrator ignores the fact that virtually all sailboats have switched over to them. Personally, I didn't find this to be very informative.

Overall, I found this DVD to be rather disappointing. I'm loaning it out at my marina and don't care if it doesn't get returned.

The Best Of Wado Ryu Karate
More like negative stars. This DVD is non-Functional. It only plays 10min at a time. The quality of footage is very low. If I could watch the footage of Otsuka Sensei, it would be worth it, but I cannot. The audio commentary is silly. For any who has trained with Suzuki Sensei, or in Japanese karate would know that the terms that the commentators use are incorrect. The most frustrating thing is that even when the DVD was sent back for a better copy it came back with the same errors in playability. I am surprised that Amazon would sell such an untested product. My suggestion is to not buy anything from yamazato-video. It seems that most of their products are unsatisfactory.

The Birthday Bust
My husband and I both love Tim Conway and always laughed at his antics on the Carol Burnett Show. Since my husband loves to golf, I ordered this DVD for his birthday and we eagerly awaited its arrival, sat down with birthday cake and played it. WHAT a disappointment! It is simply NOT funny, very predictable and other than the sight gag of Dorf's short legs, the usual Conway brand of madness is totally missing here. Save your money. It is not a very long DVD but seemed long as we kept hoping it would be over. A disappointing birthday gift to be sure.

Extreme Sports Bloopers: This is Going to Hurt!
Released in DVD by Madacy Records (18 September, 2001)
MPAA Rating: Unrated

Don't bother
The title is the first problem "Extreme Sports Bloopers", I never considered surfing an "extreme" sport. This video contains falls from skiing and snowboarding, biking, rollarblading and skateboarding, and surfing.
To package this as an Extreme Sports Blooper tape is stretching the imagination to the Extreme point. I've had worse falls down my basement steps. And if you liked a clip the first time, hang on, you will get to enjoy it at least once more, and sometimes twice.
This DVD looks like it was put together with amateur video. The soundtrack reminds me of a bad CD being tracked through, although the credits claim different bands were involved.
I purchased this DVD as a birthday present for a friend. I was expecting clips riviling ABC Sports "agony of defeat". What I got was the agony to my pocketbook.

The video quality and audio are awfull, the "DVD" doesnt contents the bonus okinawan tournaments scenes and doesnt ever teach nothing about kumite or tournament fighting. This is a scam from Yamazato videos. Too bad.
