Bike Blast U.S.A.
Released in DVD by Madacy (Music Distributor) (27 June, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

Good fun but over the top
I wish some of these videos would stick to bikes, and leave out the macho stuff, and the semi-naked girls, and this video is no exception.

Has some great bike stunts, but too much boring filler

Gravity Games - Summer One (Skateboards, Bikes, Motocross, Music Video)
Released in DVD by Vidmark/Trimark (16 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Gravity Games
What's billed as the world's "largest adrenaline sports festival," the first Summer Gravity Games, held in Providence, Rhode Island, is comprehensively chronicled on this DVD that boasts a running time of four hours. As originally shot by NBC Sports, intense attention is directed at some of the world's most talented competitors in "alternative sports." For example, contestants rocket up and down wooden ramps while performing ballet-like stunts on small bicycles, and intense dudes in leather bodysuits gleefully shoot down a hill in Providence in a breathtaking downhill skateboarding race.

Throughout the production, profiles of various competitors are presented, and at times the contestants themselves (such as Tony Hawk, who is introduced as a "living legend of skateboarding"), are the main attraction. But the production never strays far from the theme that these events are not stunts but legitimate, if admittedly offbeat, sports. The competitions in skateboard and bicycle events are followed closely from beginning to end. If the events seem mystifying at first to those used to traditional sports, they are presented in a highly entertaining and visually arresting package. For those who are already familiar with sports like "Vert Biking," Gravity Games: Summer One is a mother lode of gnarly action. --Robert J. McNamara

Decent eye candy...
If you're a hardcore bmx/skateboarding/etc fan then this is a no brainer, lots of great footage here to enjoy. If you're not a hardcore fan you may want to give it some thought before you put your money down. The video quality is ok but not what dvd is supposed to be, with breakup here and there and occasional color bleeding around edges. Sound is alright although occasionally the announcers voices are a bit muffled on the audio track. There's some really nice footage on here, although not as much as one might expect. Rent it first if you're casual fan of the games.

Greatest Extreme Tricks
Released in DVD by Parade (19 June, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Street Pace Extreme
This collection of clips showing some of the world's best extreme athletes performing tricks that seem either impossible or simply insane begins with something of a cautionary note as a battered dude in a hospital bed intones a list of injuries sustained when the big fun got a little too gnarly. But if hearing about such downers as a "bruised pancreas and a bruised bladder" doesn't scare you off, there's plenty of wild action coming. The clips feature "big wave surfing," snowboarding, bmx bike jumping, skateboarding, and other extreme events. The tricks, which are almost always accompanied by throbbing rock music, tend to be spectacular feats of acrobatics, but an engaging aspect of the filming is that much of it was shot in totally ordinary circumstances. For instance, skateboarders are shown doing tricks not only on specially built ramps but on ordinary sidewalks, steps, and railings, and much of the material appears to have been shot with basic home video equipment. The action, spectacular as it might be, has a definite "do it yourself" feel to it. Of course, these tricks aren't for amateurs, and big names in extreme sports, including Laird Hamilton, Danny Way, Biker Sherlock, Fuzzy Hall, and Christian Fletcher, gleefully show off their best stuff, along with some occasional injuries. --Robert J. I'd say this is a good movie if you like any skateboarding being done but it is kind of boring. it just shows you what to do kind of. its not bad.

Kamikaze: Extreme Mountain Biking
Released in DVD by K-Tel/Dvd (14 December, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

The title might be a bit much
The name extreme mountain biking might lead you to believe that this video is full of crazy stunts done on bicycles. Well to the average person that may be what it looks like but to a serious cyclists the stuff is kinda outdated now.

With videos like Kranked 3, North Shore Extreme 3, Double Down, and New World Disorder there are other truly extreme videos to pick from that outdo this one.

All in all it's not a bad video but it's just not as good as some others.

3 hours is not enough for over 120 years
Don't let me put you off by only giving this DVD 3 stars, It is a very good DVD, but the 3 hours may seem a lot to a few people but it only seemed to brush over a lot of the history. For someone has been watching and loving Manchester United for the last 20 years, there just wasn't enough on the field action, even the Treble year was not more than a few goals, I know you have to cut a lot out to fit to three hours but maybe they could have split it into more than one DVD. But saying that I still liked it as a documentary...... But I need more Action!!!

NFL Insider
Released in DVD by USA Home Entertainment (30 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
NFL Insider lives up to its title. The diverse selection of stories immerses the viewer in the "inside game" of professional football. For instance, one feature explains the development of the "West Coast Offense" as pioneered by Bill Walsh in San Francisco and tells how the 49ers' style of play has spread throughout the league. Other features include a close look at Super Bowl XXXV (with footage of coaches Brian Billick and Jim Fassel, who wore microphones during the game), a nostalgic tribute to Pittsburgh's beloved Three Rivers Stadium (which was demolished following the 2000 season), and a humorous look at an NFL ritual, the "butt slap." The camera work, as one would expect from NFL Films, is consistently outstanding. --Robert J. McNamara

Not bad for use between the Pro Bowl and Training Camp
Not a bad glimpse at NFL 2000 and the Baltimore-NYG SB XXXV. It doesn't quite live up to it's title, though, as the on-line editorial review suggests. While the camera-work and the interactive features and the great audio make for an "entertaining-enough" hour, I was hoping for an inside look at the NFL. What I got was a very glamorous version of "NFL Presents." I was hoping to spend more time in the locker room, on the practice field, in meetings, watching film, and in the huddle. Yes, Peyton Manning broke down ONE play --- but if you are a serious football fan and want to learn things about the NFL game that you don't know already, then this DVD is not for you. Unless you just can't stand the off-season like me! If you are a casual fan or, hey, maybe you're trying to get your spouse interested in the game, then this might be a keeper. High on quality, Low on the INSIDER angle.

OP King of Skate
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (05 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Starring: Tony Va-Hawk
Average review score:

King of Tame
By the name of this video, you might hope to see the top pro-skaters battle it out at a skatepark comp. for the title and the cash. Needless to say "side-show bob wanker" Ellis hosts this unmotivated group of "nobody really has time for this" videos. The show kicks off with Danny Ways' insane trickory of pulling a 65' launch air into 18'3" vert air - sick. Things slide off after that. Mike V., Hawk, Rowley, Koston and Burnquist follow up with thier own dreamed up stunts. You are given a bio. on each boarder which slows the pace down a bit, but the music saves the action from flat-spotting. Burnquists' "top off the loop" front side air gives everybody the run for the moolah, in this "cool if it was for free handout like t-shirts and stickers" DVD.

Southern Discomfort: Wrestling on the Indie Circuit
Released in DVD by Choices, Inc (26 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Bob Armstrong

Not Bad Not Good
Not one of the more better wrestling documentaries, but still ok. I first viewed this when I was out all night with some friends last year, came home at the crack of dawn, turn on the tv, and BAM! there it is. I'm all for wrestling documentaries, what very few are out there. Southern Discomfort focuses on the South of Indie wrestling following around a bunch of outta shape southern masked wrestlers as they put on shows for people in gyms. Iran Shiek & Bob Armstrong do a good job of explaining some stories, especially Armstrong who I thought brought a lot to the table, and had a lot of interesting stories to explain. That was probably the only good thing about the movie. If you're looking for a great wrestling documentary, pass on this one and buy Beyond The Mat Director's Cut on DVD. BTM explains so much more and IMO is the greatest wrestling documentary ever made and one of the greatest documentarties every made for that matter. I would only buy this documentary for the reason of just having & owning documentaries to study if you're serious about enterning into the world of filmmaking & directing as I am, but I don't really think it's a good film overall. Maybe if they did some background on Southern Wrestling like Georgia Championship & NWA and interviewed some key figures like Arn Anderson, Dusty Rhodes, Vern Gagne, etc etc it mighta been a little better, but they probably only given a meager budget and had to do there best with it, but even still I think they coulda done better.... So anyone enought babbling outta me for Southern Discomfort, if like documentaries go ahead & buy it, ...
