Drink a lot of coffee to stay awake.
Boring, Boring, Boring. This woman did not want to do this DVD. She seems to be half asleep most of the time. Nice to have a DVD on this subject (riding a bike and letting us see) but someone who wants to be on the bike would be nice.

Fun, crative and interesting
The DVD was fun to watch. It almost hypnotized me. I thought I
was riding right along on a bicycle. The history was interesting and fun to learn about. I like the part about the Revolutionary War. The music was kind of weird, but I guess that was what it sounded like in the old days.
I look forward to the next one in the series.

Motivating and Interesting
This is definitely something different. The DVD was hypnotic.
I kept wanting to get up and start riding a bicycle, but the trails on screen are so much better than the ones where I live. It seems like a combination of an exercise video and a PBS documentary.The music added to the experience with the old sounding instruments.
The preview for the next DVD in the series looks even better. I can't wait to see that one.


Keep Your Eyes Open

It's not hard to find extreme sports documentaries on DVD, but Keep Your Eyes Open is a cut above the norm. Hollywood director Tamra Davis (Billy Madison, Half Baked) brings to the genre a new polish, intellectual curiosity, and singularly interesting eye for unexplored camera angles and fresh visual settings. The subject is a little different, too: Keep Your Eyes Open concerns uniquely gifted athletes with a penchant for superior focus. They don't keep an eye on competitors, and they contemplate possible injury as something not to avoid but to predict. The talent roster includes skateboarders Eric Koston and Steve Berra, extraordinary skier Seth Morrison, 17-year-old motorcycle champion Travis Pastrana (who seems to dance with his bike while suspended in space), and hot-tempered surfer Sunny Garcia (whose fight for survival, learned on the tough side of Oahu, informs his sharp skills riding waves). Davis's husband, Mike D, makes an amusing cameo appearance as a security guard. --Tom Keogh

Not a movie; it's an advertisement
Summary:
Well, it's kind of hard to summarize this DVD because it isn't predominantly a movie, even though there is a ridiculously stupid movie within the action clips. So, I'll summarize the majority of the footage then I'll summarize the movie.

The footage is made up almost entirely of what appear to be stock shots of extreme sports, including: snowboarding, skiing, BMX, surfing, and motorcross. One athlete from each sport is highlighted (sometimes there are more, but they are pretty inconsistent on this) who then gives a spread out interview intermixed with scenes of them doing what they do.

The movie is a silly short about two skaters who pay a security guard to look the other way while they skate on a college campus. Then when his boss returns the guard and his boss chase the skaters until they end up running them over in their car, killing them, then burying them.

My Comments:
I'm going to reverse the order for my comments about the DVD.

The movie... The short is about the dumbest thing I've ever watched. There are a total of four characters - two skaters and two guards. The skaters say a total of roughly 10 words, all while they are pooling their money to bribe the guard. The rest of the movie they don't say anything, they just skate, and skate, and skate. The guards, on the other hand, can't seem to keep their mouths shut - which works against the movie, sadly, because they sound like two potheads. It's rather obvious that in real life they are probably best friends with skaters and despise security guards. The plot, of course, makes no sense because security guards don't sit at checkpoints on campuses and the majority of the skating is actually just around the city where the movie is filmed instead of on the campus. The plot was just set up for them to have an excuse to film the two skaters. Then, when the skaters are 'killed', it's blatantly obvious that they are mixing footage of dummies with footage of the real skaters - way low budget stuff here. Of course, maybe that was their intent, but it was still just plain silly. In short, the movie portion of this DVD is an absolute waste of film and DVD space. But despite it's problems, it really wasn't that much worse than the rest of the DVD because it was at least coherent and trying to tell a story, despite the horrible acting and plot.

The footage and interviews... This is really where I started to have a major problem with this DVD. Even though there is a director for the DVD, Tamra Davis, I got the impression that most of the footage was likely shot by someone else and she just got her hands on it after the fact then edited it together. So, despite some of the footage being pretty good, I don't think the producers of this DVD deserve any of that credit because I'm pretty sure they didn't do most of the filming.

As for the content, as I noted above, this is not a movie - there is no story here. This is really just an advertising gimmick for extreme sports. There are a bunch of shots of people doing cool things with the occasional wreck. The extent of the story is the brief interludes of some of the athletes telling about their lives, but the snippets are short and lost in the jumble of cuts from the other athletes and their footage.

This leads me to perhaps my biggest problem with this DVD - was there supposed to be an order to it? The interviews and footage don't follow any particular pattern. They start with one person, jump to two or three others, return to the first, then leave that person for 20 or 30 minutes before returning to them. It's almost as if the director and editor just said, "Well, we have this many video clips, let's put them into a randomizer and see what comes out." Et voila, you have Keep Your Eyes Open. This is why I think I ended up concluding that the DVD was really just an advertisement because there was no other way to interpret what took place. Also, keep in mind that interspersed with the footage and interviews are scenes from the actual movie.

Overall, this DVD was more frustrating and annoying than interesting. I never really got anything from it other than watching some cool tricks and feeling like I was watching a 75 minute advertisement for supporting or participating in extreme sports. I guess I should admit that I found two things interesting - Mat Hoffman nearly killed himself when he was attempting to break his own record for height reached on a BMX bike but eventually succeeded, and Travis Pastrana won the first freestyle motorcycle trick contest at 14. Other than those two randomly interspaced interesting tidbits, I was completely bored by this DVD. If you're interested in paying for someone to advertise to you, go ahead and buy it. If you're looking for a movie or just a series of cool extreme sports clips, look elsewhere.

Amazing! Entertaining! I didn't want to miss a second!
I enjoyed every minute of this captivating, lively, and fun extreme sport documentary. I promise that you will be so engaged whether you plan to watch it alone or with a bunch of friends. To be honest, I am not a real sport-fan, but "Keep Your Eyes Open" entertained me immensely. Awesome film!

Pride FC 5 - From the Nagoya Rainbow Hall

A bit disappointing
Pride FCs are great, but this one is a bit lacking. It has only 6 fights and is much shorter than the other Pride FCs I've seen. Most of the fights were mismatches and overall there was very little excitement. The biggest reason I bought this disc was because I love both Sakuraba and Belfort as fighters and I wanted to see them fight each other. Huge disappointment. I won't say who won, but one of the fighters refuses to fight and just sits down the whole match. This can actually be an effective defense as Allen Goes proved. However, in this case is was absolutely disasterous for the fans and for anyone watching. The fighter was even warned, but went right back down to the ground. I had heard later it was because he had a broken hand before the fight started. Regardless, it made for a bad match and poor viewing. Also included on the disc was an "exhibition" with Royler and Rickson Gracie where they displayed some of their techniques. I was not very interested in this and would much rather have seen either of them fight someone in the tournament. If you want your Pride fix, go for Pride 8 or Pride GP Finals.

One of the most controversial main event of all time.
Pride 5 was held on April 28, 1999 at Nagoya Rainbow Hall.

The first fight was between Lumax Cup and Shooto veteran Egan Inoue and Pancrase veteran Minoru Toyonaga. Good fight with a good ending.

The second fight IVC veteran Francisco Bueno and Pride veteran Satoshi Honma. Good fight with good ending.

The third fight is between IFC Kiev tournament and WVC 5 tournament winner Igor Vovchanchyn and Pride veteran Akira Shoji. Nice fight.

The fourth fight is between Shooto, Japan Vale Tudo and UFC veteran Enson Inoue and Rookie fighter Soichi Nishida. Nice short fight

The fifth fight is between UFC Japan tournament and Pride veteran Kazushi Sakuraba and UFC 12 heavyweight tournament winner Vitor Belfort. Match of the night.

The main event is between Pride veteran Nobuhiko Takada and UFC 10 & 11 tournament winner and former UFC Heavyweight champion Mark Coleman. This is one of the most controversial fights of all time.

I recommand this to MMA fans.

Picture please!
This video has the poorest quality picture I have ever seen in a commercially produced product. The entire picture goes light and dark throughout the running. I even tryed my "video stabilizer" to correct the problem. There is no narration to enhance interest or explain who or what, just western music. A poor choice.

RODEO BLOOPERS, BLUNDERS & WRECKS
I have seen Rodeo Bloopers on DVD one time and this DVD of Rodeo Bloopers has the events in all the bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling blunders, bloopers, wrecks & other events.

This DVD of Rodeo Bloopers are from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 are the mix of the greatest rodeo bloopers tapes ever.

They are the greatest mix's from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 just like they remind me of Garth Brooks's album The Hits and Billy Joel's Greatest Hits.

THEY ARE RODEO BLOOPERS, BLUNDERS & WRECKS.

Rodeo Bloopers Rawks
Rodeo Bloopers is great. If you like seeing rednecks in clown costumes getting trampled by cattle, this is the dvd for you. Chocked full of dead hicks and full frontal bovine nudity Rodeo Bloopers is a cinimatic masterpiece.

WHAT[[IS UP]?
A warning for any true recipient of streetball, this Dvd is TERRIBLE! After watching the 1st 2minutes, I wanted to turn it off, I forced myself to watch it in the hopes it got better... The player profiles & street league table structure was a good idea though I wasted no time in studying it, I merely glanced. The commentary was irritating with so called "Streetballers!" running off at the mouth with regards to players supposed "Ill" moves which were not featured. The music was dull, and the film work featured continuous "LETS SEE THAT AGAIN!" replays which weren't even that special. I believe the commentators watched another game, and were duped in the thought that their voices would be used for some true baller games... Your much better off buying the "And 1: Ball Access Mixtape tour" Dvd for pure essential streetball quality, inclusive of: Freestyle Rhyming, ill moves, pics & [mess] ups, to name a few. As a baller myself I could get better frills playing on my local court by myself...

Amazing DVD
I am a huge pro and college basketball fan. I can never seem to get enough ESPN. This DVD shows amazing highlights of people I am not familar with doing extraordinary things. Amazing dunks, steals, assists, etc. I found myself watching this over and over again with my friends. Each of them has liked it so much that they bought their own (I am sick of loaning mine out).

I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who is a hoops fan. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Streetball at it Best!
Slam from the Street is the best streetball tape I have seen. It shows us some truely amazing moves, especially the dunks, from some of the biggest streetball tournaments in the US with some of the best steetball players. This is truley authentic streetball action. You really get the feel of the neighborhoods these hard core streetball tournaments are played in, as well as the texture and lifestyle of the ballers represented. The footage at West 4th Street in Manhattan is especially fantastic (The world famous Conrad McRae slam dunk contest at West 4th was really sick). I think all basketball fans will really enjoy these DVD's.


Pride FC - Cold Fury

Boring
This dvd was full of lay and pray tactics. Most of the matches consisted of one person laying in the guard and doing nothing. They didn't even try submissons or the typical ground and pound. Save your money.

Pride FC - Cold Fury
It was this event which brought about the new rule changes in the later shows. On paper, the match-ups were impressive. With fighters like Kazushi Sakuraba and Vanderlei Silva on the card, you would expect a lot of action. Not many memorable fights in this event. A majority of the fights were basically "lay and pray" battles. There are still some matches that were exciting and brutal. The match between Vanderlei Silva and Dan Henderson was a war. Kazushi Sakuraba and Ryan Gracie also put on a good fight, with Sakuraba up to his usual antics. I would recommend this DVD just for those two matches alone.

Some good fights
Like every event I guess, there were some boring fights, but overall, this DVD had enough big names to keep it entertaining at least. The Sakuraba fight was a little disappointing from the start, but some of the undercard fights made it worth the money - like watching Mezger, Vovchanchyn, Silva, Herring, Rodriguez, Newton, Henderson, and Yvel.

There are much better MMA DVDs
First off, this DVD set is 3 hours, not 6 like it is listed!

Overall, this was pretty boring. I am an MMA fan, and there are very little surprises, if any in this. The only fight that was even mildly entertaining was the Mezger Sakuraba fight. The rest were predictable and disappointing. The announcers were pretty bad too. If you are a Pride fan, "Return of the Warriors" and the "Grand Prix Finals" are much better.

The fights included on the discs are: Royce Gracie vs. Nobuhiko Takada, Kasushi Sakuraba vs. Guy Mezger, Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Alexander Otsuka, Mark Kerr vs. Enson Inoue, Mark Coleman vs. Masaaki Satake, Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Hanse Nyman, Tachihikari vs. Gary Goodridge, Akira Shoji vs. Ebenezer Fontes Braga, Vanderlei Silva vs. Bob Schrijver

Some good, some junk
Mixed review on this one. Some of the fights were action packed and exciting and some of the fights we just fast forwarded to the end of the match. Vanderlei Silva, Guy Mezger, and Igor Vochanchyn usually make for exciting matches. Some of the Japanese fighters were disappointing. My suggestion would be to just watch the final round. At least the commentary is in English!

The Wait is Over!
The Mixed Martial Arts world had waited patiently for 5 years. It was that long since the great Royce Gracie last fought. During his absence the sport grew and knowledge of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Submissions became evident in most of todays great fighters. The mixture of striking and grappling once thought rare, had become the norm. So, it was Gracie who had nothing to lose, except his great mystique, to step up to the ultimate challenge. This tournament he was to enter was unlike any other; the Pride Grand Prix 16-man tournamnet.

The tourney was to take place over two different shows. The Opening round in one show and the 8 remaining fighters on a later show. The opening round had some solid matchups, with some controversial and lackluster results. But the buzz was on Royce Gracie who would fight last against pro-wrestler Nobuhiko Takada.

No big suprises, the Braga/Shoji battle would be close. Four dominating fights, and then there was the very controversial Sakuraba/Mezger fight. It is no secret that Pride protects their fighters. Like any promoter, it is the smart thing to do. Sakuraba had earned the nickname "The Gracie Hunter", with his dominating fight against Royler Gracie (Royce's Brother). What the world and especially Pride Promoters wanted to see was a Sakuraba Vs. Royce fight in the following show. So little would they know that american Guy Mezger had a game plan, a good game plan. Mezger made Sakuraba do what few do: make Sak fight his fight. Mezger played it cool and conservative, and lets just say he wasn't properly awarded for his efforts. For the sport and it's many fans the decision was wrong, but good in the build up of the greatest fight in MMA history (Next Show).

As far as Gracie, he won his fight. It was a boring (honest) one sided/strange fight. Takada while not known for being the best fighter, didn't seem to want to fight. Maybe he knew of his friend (Sakuraba) and his desire to hunt another Gracie.

Good Show, Pride (DSE) really does know how to put on a great show.


How To Fly Fish Series, Bonefish School, Bahamas & Billy Pate's Saltwater Fly Casting Secrets

Not to my liking
I ordered this DVD right away when I saw it was available.
It was a big mistake. I had hoped this DVD would have the same quality as Bennett-Watts "The new flyfishing basics" but it looks like a cheap transfer from plain video. You will not find any HD widescreen content on this disc.

My recollection of tropical waters are of blue waterscapes. I often thought this disc was shot in grey video instead of color.
The quality of the video is poor, in my opinion a waste of the DVD medium.

This is not a destination video but a how-to exercise, I would have liked to see more bonefish though instead of people talking about basics on reels, rods and lines. Those subjects are already properly discussed in the new flyfishing basics DVD.
Too much tech-talk and not enough fishing for my taste.

What really put me off in the beginning of this DVD was the lack of interest of the Bonefish school kids. One guy in particular was busy unpacking his reelcase why a speaker was explaining fishing rods from bamboo to graphite. I found some of the camera positions in this video very weird, like seeing this guy being more interested in fiddling with his reels then listening to the speaker. Maybe the cameraguy had one to many drinks at the time.

A real dissapointment from Bennet-Watt. I had expected high quality video from them but instead they seem to rush their old video material on DVD. My only good DVD that has saltwater flyfishing content on it still remains "Rex Hunt in the top end" from Australia's Rex Hunt. It is a PAL DVD and a reminder to all those fishing video makers out there how to do the job properly.

Bonefish School & Billy Pate's Salt H20
There are lots of destination videos out there but very few instructional how to fish Saltwater. I will recommend this to my friends. Good Job!

Highly recommend
I've been fly fishing for 15 years or so and just started saltwater fly fishing recently. i found the DVD to be extremely informative and some of the best saltwater casting instruction I've ever seen. This is obviously older video, so the colors are alittle washed out, but the value of the instruction and ease of navigating through the material more than makes up for the older video.

For anyone who wants to improve their skills in saltwater fly fishing, this is an absolute 'must buy" item.

this is an excellent film, as for the guy who rated it down because the jack@ss couldnt figure this was snowboarding, maybe be a little more observant. good footage, excellent array of riders.


Ruff Ryders: Wink 1100 - Urban Street Legend

Gyarrrbage and humor
The Ruff Ryders have become street legends in multiple ways throughout Hip Hop culture and they have set a standard for quality in delivery of a product that is often rough & unapologetic in levels of hardcore. This documentary in that respect is a slight exception. The tape's quality was - Gyarrbage. The main man in view-Wink 1100 is a skilled ryder no doubt, but not much is shown as far as tricks on this tape other than wheeleez, wheeleez, and yes more wheelez with a few ryders sitting on the handlebars, stopping the bikes with the nose down-butt up, and yes -more wheeleez. All of this for the glory of saying you can go for BLOCKS with wheelee on your mind. The commentary by Wink and the few comic book styled cahracter personas he has created for himself are funny but short . They are funny in a this is bizarre way and far too long. There are lots of scenes with repeated footage. It's only an hour, but by the time you watch your 100th wheelee-you're done-finished -and in the words of Wink-feeling like "Gyarbage" for buying this tape. My recommendation would be to wait for Biker Boyz to come out on DVD and simply keep going over the scenes in that film where the main character and his crew are letting the professional STUNT Doubles do tricks. There is nothing like that on this RR project and with all of the hype they put up-there should be. Maybe the RR guys should stop smoking greenery and sipping that oil so that they can focus on more than wheeleez! -Seriously -RR has the flyest logo and support team with music, clothing, and movies to boot-so deliver more and invest in some quality editing and camera men. OUT.

You can't be serious!
Wink is the illest rider known on the east coast. The video is a must have for any sportbike rider. The skits are funny as hell. Ruff Ryders Ride or Die!
