Pride FC 2 - From the Yokohama Arena
Released in DVD by Brentwood Communications (16 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Pride Fc, V White, and K Sakuraba

Fighting Fantastic
This DVD and all of the pride dvd's is worth a buy.
The supplemental stuff is weak, and unfortunately it's the same on all the pride DVD's. So once you've seen it once, thats that!!.
However the fighting, the fighters and the prodcution are top notch. It's not just blood and guts it's style and panache, check out Sakuraba, unbelievable.

Drink and drink and fight sometimes
It's true, I like this book a great deal. You should get it, it makes yah think.

great
Overall a very good show.I like the real fights at streetbrawls.com Sakuraba fights well, and show glimpses of what lies in the future for him, as does Renzo with an impressive performance.
The only downside is the Kerr fight, with some boring tactics from Branco.
Overall a good show, and well worth watching

Pride FC 7 - From the Yokohama Arena
Released in DVD by Brentwood Communications (16 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Pride Fc, M Kerr, and I Vovchanchyn
Average review score:

Good MMA DVD
Overall this was a good tournament. Pride FC is a mixed martial arts tournament held in Japan. It is held in a ring with ropes, and there are some rules such as no grabbing the ropes, no kicking a downed fighter on all fours, no eye gouging, and no groin punching. Besides that, pretty much anything goes. You will see some great submission, grappling and striking in the tournament.
1) Matsui vs. Schrijver - This is Matsui's 4th Pride appearance coming in with a record of 1-0-2. This was a good fight, but you'll see why they call Schrijver, "Dirty Bob".
2) Malenko vs. Silva - Surprisingly, Silva took this fight to the ground and looked a bit tired. He is known for his striking ability, but remained in the mounted position for most of the fight.
3) Inoue vs Kulihaapai - This was an interesting fight to see Inoue fight with his gui, but this was a total mismatch.
4) Cikatic vs. Smith - Smith was coming off some impressive wins, one over Mark Coleman in UFC. This started out with plenty of action, but ended on a low point. One of the fighers submitted to an easily defendable move.
5) Shoji vs. Parker - This started out good with both fighers excahnging punches and wrestling on the ground, but by the end of the fight, it became routine for Parker to just lie on his back and wait for Shoji to jump in. The last round, there was a lot of action and exchanges of strikes.
6) Sakuraba vs. Macias - As always, Sakuraba is fun to watch. Macias also made quite a show of it. This was my favorite fight just to watch what techniques Sak would come up with. He is truly a master of submissions.
7) Kerr vs. Vovchanchyn - Very dissapointing ending. This started out great with fighters exchanging strikes, but ended on a low note. One of the fighters was clearly breaking the rules and did not get called for it. Kind of a bummer because he won by breaking the rules.

A main event fight that deserves that name.
Pride 7 was held on September 12, 1999 at the Yokohama Arena

The first match is between Pride veteran Daijiro Matsui against Cage Fight tournament veteran Bob Schrijber. Good match with an ending that may leave you mad.

The second match is between Pride veteran Carl Malenko and in his Pride debut International Vale Tudo and UFC veteran Vanderlei Silva. Another good match.

The third fight is between UFC 13, Shooto and Japan Vale Tudo veteran Enson Inoue and in his MMA debut Tuli Kulihaapai. One sided match but it is good.

The fourth match is between former Extreme Fighting and UFC heavyweight champion Maurice Smith against Pride and K1 veteran Branco Citivic. This was one strange match.

The fifth match is between Lumax Cup and Pride veteran Akira Shoji and Extreme Challenge, Super Brawl and Bas Rutten Invitational veteran Larry Parker. A really good fight.

The sixth match is between UFC Japan tournament winner and Pride veteran Kazushi Sakuraba against UFC and IFC veteran Anthony Macias. Another good fight.

The Nobuhiko Takada vs. Alexander Otsuka match is not on the DVD.

The main event is between WVC 3 tournament winner, UFC 14 & 15 heavyweight tournament winner and Pride veteran Mark Kerr and IFC Kiev tournament winner, WVC 5 tournament winner, AFC 3 tournament winner and Pride veteran Igor Vovchanchyn. This was a great fight, but with a controversial ending.

I recommend this for any people who like Pride and Mixed Martial Arts.

Kerr vs. Vovchanchyn
This was the first Pride event I saw. I feel that the Mark Kerr vs. Igor Vovchanchyn fight is worth the purchase of this dvd. Kerr looked like a monster next to Vovchanchyn (Kerr 6'3" 265lbs Vovchanchyn 5'9" 235). I had not heard of Vovchanchyn before I saw this fight, but after watching him fight Kerr I won't forget that name. I could not believe the striking power this guy had at his disposal. The win was controversial because of the old Pride rules, which were a disadvantage to the striking type fighter, the rules have since been changed to allow the type of strikes that Vovchanchyn used to finish off Kerr.

Longboard Fever - A Pure Surfing Experience

Monotone
Very dissappointing film. There was an underlying monotone from the reverbed drenched guitars to film angles and editing. There is no narration and contrary to Jack Johnson films, the simplicity of this production just can not support such a dynamic technique. I am in fact a longboarder and when I am not in the water I at least enjoy a good film to take me there. This left me on the sofa, guitar in hand with the sound turned OFF! Generally I play with the soundtrack but this bored me to tears! Check out September Sessions even if you are a longboarder. Sorry, but I feel a bit taken.

Old Time Stoke for this New Movie!!
If you want to see a movie that will get you our of your chair and want to hit the water, Longboard Fever is it......

The music is soulful and upbeat with great footage of classic Cali breaks; makes me want to jump on a plane and hit the water.

Rich Lehrer has scored another winner!

Loose Change
Released in DVD by Redline Entertainment -- Red - (09 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Loose Change and Rob Machado
This attempt to fuse action footage of expert surfers with a comedic material is uneven, but deserves some credit for effort. Skits purporting to show what some dudes would be if they weren't great surfers are interspersed with segments showing some phenomenal surfboard prowess. The comedic bits aren't terribly inventive, and if the acting is pretty bad, at least it's obvious that no one was taking it too seriously. In fairness, some of the action is weird enough to generate laughter: seeing skinny surfers in a barroom brawl is like watching a stampede of poodles. When it comes to the surfing footage, however, things are entirely professional, as the camera follows acrobatics on the waves to spectacular effect. The DVD menu allows viewers to watch the skits without the surfing, and after initial curiosity wanes, most will likely choose the option to watch the surfing without the skits. -- Robert J. McNamara

Not as bad
This movie is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. ... I bought it ... because it contains the current surf stars like Rob Machado and Kelly Slater. I was expecting the sketches between the surfing to be really lame but I must say they're a lot better than I thought they'd be. They are actully entertaining (the first time you see them). In fact, two of them (mechanics with Chris Malloy, and the pizza delivery guy) were quite funny.

The surfing is ok, but it's your run-of-the-mill surf movie with adrenalin-pumping grunge music which I can't stand. I only own 4 surf movies so I actually longed for more artistic shots like water shots, etc. Especially annoying to me is the lack of any slow-motion shots.

It's still an ok movie to watch when it's flat and you're bored. But if you already own Hit and Run you might want to pass on this one, it's the same thing basically, they're both Taylor Steele movies with the same surfers.

Now if you want the best surf movie of the last 30 years, run to get a copy of September Sessions! Get the DVD which has extra footage and The Making Of. It might be a little pricey since it lasts only 26 minutes, but it's well worth it.

A very fun movie
This movie is every thing it was supposed to be, Good surfing, great music, with a few breaks with comic relief. The one thing I like about the Taylor Steele Movies is that there is never nudity or profanity. I watch these with my two young Groms, in fact they watch this movie more than I.
I recomend this movie for the surfing, the skits, and the music. Other films to look at are Hit and Run and Shelter. If you like the comedy part, check out Drive Thru. It is hilarious.

Better than most...
This DVD is far better than most, with an actual plot and storyline that most "surfers" will find entertaining. Who knows, an independent-thinking non-surfer might actually sit through this one, much like the Endless Summer films. Quality of picture and sound is high and this is a worthwhile addition to a collection. When you are tired of the "plot," you can select surfing only.

One-quarter or so of this video is action in wetsuit conditions that year-round warm weather surfers may not find engaging or intriguing. More power to the guys that can make small surf look fun, either in the water or on film. Not in wetsuit conditions, Bruce Irons and Slater are exceptional, I wonder why their segments are not longer.

The footage is well mixed and uses a variety of cinematic techniques to keep it interesting even after repeated viewings. [That's why we buy these things, after all, to watch them over and over when we can't surf, isn't it?] Camera work appears to favor the perspective from straight-on, with fewer shots from an angle or showing the surfer from the side. In some of the barrel sequences, some of the surfers' incredible ability to adjust to the barrel is highlighted by this angle. Thankfully, the overused whitewash-on-the-beach & underwater shots are absent. Although a different work, I prefer this DVD to Hit And Run.

If you are looking for "beach life" footage (bikini, etc.), monster wave survival-type sequences, a road map to exotic locations, or commentary on life on the tour (sometimes confused with surfing itself), it is not here.

World Combat Championship
Released in DVD by Bmg Special Products (28 June, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: World Combat Championship
Average review score:

Bare knuckle hand-to-hand combat.
This event took place in 1995. The tournament was divided in a grapplers division and a strikers division. Whithin the grappler competition there was a 22 min. time limit and a maximum of ten minutes for the ground fight. Biting and eye coughing not allowed. The difference with the strikers division was that there was a maximum of 2 minutes for the ground fight and the participants were not allowedd to win by submission. Strange rules i must say.
There were some very hard and bloody fights. For example the fight between Bitonio and Bart Vale. One of these fighter gets a good beating but refuses to quit. Also you can watch Renzo Gracie in action. In the first fight on this dvd Renzo shows bad behaviour against his opponent, the judo champion Ben Spijkers from the Netherlands.
The fights on this dvd are typical fights that we saw in the early UFC events.
If that's what you like, then this dvd is worth buying.

Interesting concept, great production
Back in 1996, the World Combat Championship introduced to the world a brand new MMA/NHB show. After watching this DVD one wonders why there was only one show...ever. Splitting an 8-man tournament into a strikers and grapplers division was strange, the rules within were even stranger. Because the WCC took place in the "early" days there were your fair share of mismatches, but as a production...it was like watching an HBO production. Very Impressive.

The grapplers division was expected to be an eventual matchup between Shootfighting legend Bart Vale and BJJ sensation Renzo Gracie. Renzo's now infamous "step on the neck" technique was used, and Vale's first round opponent gave old Bart everything.

The strikers featured 3 notable names: Jerome Turcan, James Warring, and Eric Paulson. On paper, Paulson had the most tools, but really was limited to using "striking" techniques. A real shame considering Paulson's a great technician on the ground, especially leg-locks. His hair proved to be his achillies heel though.

Again the card was very pro-like. Real announcers ( a little inexperienced as far as the sport) with good in between the fight segments and stories. 3.5 stars

JACK UK
I must start by saying, of all the video's and dvd's of nhb/mma events this is definately one of the best value-for-money.
AT ... it is a bargain.

The contrast in styles is facinating.

The wide variation in styles and the fact that there are almost no rules, no gloves,no weight limits etc,
makes for some very brutal matches.

The bart vale fight v benito? is a fantastic fight, and you will not believe the courage shown in this match bu benitonio?

Renzo Gracie shows the perfect combination of pure class and aggression.

For the price, very few dvd's can compare to this,
and it is for that reason alone, this is compulsive viewing.

Trust me, you will not regret it,
as there is no better way of spending ...

This video is great because it recaptures plays in important soccer games and records soccer history and styles of play that will become soccer history. I would love to see other unique games like the 1979 WORLD CUP with the Netherlands team (many of whom were killed in a terrible plane cash.) Their style of play was unique and was taught by one of the most innovative soccer coaches of that time.

A United Experience
Again D.C. United claim the crown as MLS champs. Rob Stone does a quality job of narration with fantastic highlights from the 1999 MLS season. Each team is profiled and the stats pack is a nice touch for dvd.

body paint without the bodies
I thought the video would be more tantalizing than the print issue. WRONG!! Yes, there are the beautiful models in the swim suits, along with the inane dialogue as they tell about what it was like. The body paint segment shows the women, obstacles strategically placed in front of revealing parts, just slightly out of focus or at a distance. Do not buy this tape if you're expecting something "hot". Only buy the tape if you are desparate to see their backs in thong bikinis. Don't expect to see nudity.

This is a "MUST" for your swimsuit collection...!!
Great Model, Great act..!!
Be honest, Heidi Klum is my favourite model...she is lovely, cute, sexy, gorgeous,...
Also, this issue includes many other beautiful models & the "paint swimsuit" you never seen before...anyway, get one for your DVD, and get one for yor "Private Collection"...I did it!!

Best one yet.
I've seen plenty of swimsuit videos, however this one had a show of an artist painting on a bathingsuit. Basically the woman was naked except for the paint she was wearing. The women were hot and it was filmed at an exotic beach. Nice video and great photography. Worth the money and would make a great Christmas gift for the right guy...Regards Frank...

Transworld Surf - Hit & Run
Released in DVD by Redline Entertainment -- Red - (22 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Taylor Steele

Dissapointed
I was a little dissapointed by this movie. As surfing has evolved in the last 30 - 40 years so I expected surf movies to evolve as well. I see this is not true, most of the current movies stick to the same adranlin-pumping music with dudes doing aerials formula. The music is all grunge surf music which I can't stand (I hit the muting button and put my own music on). The surfing is good (these are the latest stars after all) but nothing spectacular.

As I said of Loose Change, I was expecting more artistic and slow motion shots. There are none in this movie. There is actually very little creativity from the producers/directors. The camera work is just straight forward, nothing else. Speaking of Loose Change, this is basically the same movie as that on but without the sketches. I don't think there's a need to buy both (unfortunately I did), if you've seen one, you've seen them both.

Now, if you want the best surf movie of the last 30 years run to get a copy of September Sessions. It is really extraordinary. Rob Machado does some of the best, more soulful surfing I've seen in my life.

5 stars minus one for the stupid skits before the surf
Great movie. Moves well. Good extras. Wipeouts were action packed for once. Slater and Machado were at their best in some interesting places. Music was awesome. Your usual Blink and Jack Johnson beats, but well placed with the surfers. Oh yeah, just watch it for the music and sites, the skits were pretty bad.

All Killer, No Filler!!!!!
Finally, a surf DVD that actually looks and sounds like a quality DVD. All the other ones I've seen to this point look like real low budget transfers, with lame, blotchy pixels. This Movie is another Taylor Steele masterpiece that picks up where Goodtimes left off! All the boys you'd expect are there and more, wrapped up in neat little 3 minute segments that we've all grown to love. The soundtrack is sooooooooooo good, with new songs from all the favorites, including a great song from one of the worlds most talented bands, "Pivit". The footage is really nice and looks almost 3D at times on the DVD. Honestly though, even If I had A 8th generation copy on vhs I'd still love this one. Timmy Curran goes off like an Alien, and Ross Williams throws spray that would bruise you if you got within 25 feet of him. The Hobgoods, Machado, Slater, I could go on and on! Just buy it! There's lots of cool extras and Interviews in the dvd menu also. A lot of work and heart went into this one. Hip-Hip-Hooray for the kids at POOR SPECIMEN! Please make More!!!!

7 Girls (White Knuckle Extreme)
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (04 June, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Seven of the best female surfers on earth showcase their dazzling skill on spectacular waves in the beautifully shot film 7 Girls. Exotic locations, including Fiji, Tahiti, and Hawaii, provide scenery worthy of National Geographic. And the women, among them top pros like Layne Beachley, Serena Brooke, and Heather Clark, conquer gorgeous and terrifying walls of water in athletic displays that are astoundingly graceful and gutsy. Waterproof cameras venture right up to the waves (and sometimes slide under them) to put the viewer astonishingly close to the fast-paced action. A lively soundtrack of rock and rap fits in well with the surfing action, and at times the women briefly comment on their careers as pro surfers. Rochelle Ballard, who is renowned for her skill surfing inside the "barrel" of the wave, jokes about her love of danger and remarks about one ride that turned rocky, "I enjoyed every minute of that ass-kicking." 7 Girls captures the epitome of female surfing. --Robert J. McNamara
Average review score:

Good...just not great.
For starters, this DVD is only 40 minutes long. However, it has the best women surfers in the world. I was disappointed how little footage there was of Megan Abubo (since she is my personal favorite). None the less, this is an awesome DVD to add to your collection. This DVD really shows how far women's surfing has come along. A must for all surfers.

Bikini fest....not quite
I had heard good things about this DVD on a surfing girls online forum so i picked it up. when i first started it i totally thought that it was nothing but a total bikini fest, but as it progressed it was really quite good. Not very long, but they hit a lot of the major spots (North Shore, Tahiti,The Crossing, Indo, etc) except for SoCal and Oz. The footage at Teaphoo was amazing!!! I would recommend picking it up...the extra footage at the end is hilarious.

ADCC: Best of ADCC Vol. #3
Released in DVD by Rock Bottom, Inc (26 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Average review score:

Tons of talent, not a lot of action
For those of you looking to see the best of the best grapplers from UFC and Pride (Ortiz, Kerr, Belfort, Hughes, Sperry etc) competing in the most prestigious submission grappling tournament in the world, this is the DVD for you. For those people looking for all these great submission experts to be placed in the greatest submission grappling tournament in the world with tons of "action", this probably isn't the DVD for you.

It's important to remember that this is a submission grappling tournament. That means the majority of the matches are going to be spent either stalking, the guard, side mount, or mounted position. If you hate these positions and want something with a faster pace, then this is not the DVD for you.

This DVD IS for:
-People who don't mind when UFC or Pride fights stay in the guard for 5+min (in this case without striking)
-People who understand the very technical aspects of grappling instead of seeing people "Just lying there"
-People who can appreciate ground grappling

This DVD is NOT for:
- People who want tons of action
- People who don't understand submission grappling strategy (position and points)
- People who look for the "ground and pound" seen in UFC and Pride
- People who hate when matches go to the ground

The broad casting quality is decent. They have different camera angles, but is no where close to the quality we're use to in NHB competitions (KOC, UFC, Pride). I give this DVD 3 stars because it gives THE best submission experts in the world, puts them in a tournament and delivers what it says it does. On the other hand, even for someone who studies BJJ with a Gracie, I found a lot of the matches kind of slow myself.

GREAT STUFF!
Historic grappling matches in the richest country on the planet.

This is the ONLY tournament where you get to see the best against each other.
