1986 WORLD SERIES GAME 6 VIDEO - NEW YORK METS VS BOSTON RED SOX
Released in DVD by (01 December, 1986)

good
I love the Mets and as Mets fan, I love this game. The only problem I have with it is that it is not the complete game only the innings that either team scored on.

The Mets pull off the greatest rally in World Series history
Here is the World Series game that the Sporting News picked as the 8th Greatest Moment in Baseball History. The date is October 26, 1986, the place is Shea Stadium, where the New York Mets host the Boston Red Sox in Game 6. Boston leads the series 3-2 and has its ace Roger Clemens on the mound. But the story of this one comes down to the 10th inning, with the game tied 3-3, when Dave Henderson leads off with a homer run off Mets star reliever Rick Aguilera. Wade Boggs hits a double and Marty Barrett knocks him in to give Boston a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the 10th, Boston reliever Calvin Schiraldi gets Wally Backman and Keith Hernandez on fly balls. The Red Sox are now only one out away from winning their first World Championship since Babe Ruth pitched for them in 1918. The Red Sox would even get to within one strike of winning the Series, but Fate has never been kind to the Red Sox since they incurred the Curse of the Bambino.

No World Series game ever had a more unbelievable ending than this classic game, which began with a guy parachuting onto the pitcher's mound and ended with the immortal "E-3." But that was only the final nail in the coffin. The Sox had left 14 men on base and made other mistakes at least as important as the infamous game ending error. This is not so much a great game as it is an unforgettable inning. I am sure this tape is very popular among citizens of the Big Apple and purchased only by sadistic types in Bean Town. Not as memorable as Carlton Fisk's game ending homer in 1975, but close.

Little roller up along first... behind the bag!
The real test for any baseball game condensed to video is, just how exciting is it? Not just the final half-inning, of course, but the game itself, even along the slow stretches. Thanks to the MLB "Baseball's Greatest Games" series (the precursor to ESPN Classic's daily baseball rebroadcasts), you can watch the best 90 minutes of any given classic game and move from high spot to high spot, generally without losing the rhythm of the whole 9, or in this case 10, innings.

When reviewing a video like this, it's the game that speaks for itself, and not the way the video itself is produced. Game 6 of the '86 Series has everything going for it -- a thinner Roger Clemens striking out New York batter after New Yor batter, the first-inning parachutist, Lee Mazzilli delivering a clutch late-inning hit. And that's before the bottom of the 10th inning, and you can fast-forward Steve Garvey's wooden line-readings in between.

For true Mets fans the must-have item is the Bob Murphy radio broadcast. But for any listener, baseball fan or otherwise, the Vin Scully play-by-play provided here stands on its own and brings the entire game to life.

One unfortunate note, owing more to the realities of baseball than to any defect in this game, but Darryl Strawberry went hitless and was out of the game in the bottom of the 10th. How nice it would have been to see him contribute here... fortunately you can still catch reruns of his monster home run into the night in Game 7, still airing on ESPN Classic...

Adventures in Wild California (Large Format)
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (20 November, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Greg MacGillivray
Starring: Troy Hartman and Stephen C. Sillett
Whoa! Dude, this is so rad you won't believe it! It's a 42-minute IMAX movie made by MacGillivray Freeman Films, the same guys who made that Everest film, and it is awesome. They filmed all kinds of cool stuff that people do in California--you know, like skysurfing, extreme surfing (dude, wait till you check out the size of these waves!), climbing monster sequoia trees, and walking up to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge. There's a piece about Walt Disney and the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, too. And even if you don't have an IMAX theater in your house, you can still see how amazing the film techniques they used to shoot this stuff are (in fact, there's a 24-minute documentary explaining how they did it). And to top it off, the narration is read by Jimmy Smits, and there are a few tunes by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. Man, this is sweet. --Sam Graham

Good film, DVD not as good as theatrical version
I saw the theatrical version of this movie about 3 months ago and just got the DVD release. I thought the film was great when I saw it in the IMAX theater at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. However, the DVD just didn't look right to me. The vibrant colors that I saw in the theater were not there and the soundtrack was not transfered very well to either DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1. The DVD was a disappointment. The video quality of the "Making of" feature was not worthy of DVD release.

I own about a dozen IMAX films on DVD. This and another one that I bought at the same time could have been better. Both were released by Image Entertainment. I have gotten some real low quality DVD releases from Image Entertainment and this continues the trend for me.

One of the best DVD's I own!
I have a 60" Sony widescreen and its awesome watching Adventures in Wild California on it. The music is good and the photography is excellent. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone. DTS IS GREAT!

Visually Stunning
The opening sequence of the sky divers over San Diego is the high point of the DVD for me; but the entire DVD is well worth watching repeatedly. Movies should take you to places that you may not be able to go in real life, such as skydiving. The Disney chapter was light and fun; especially the first person perspective roller coaster ride. Climbing up and into the giant trees of California again gives us non-climbers unusual views and different perspectives.

Good piece of history
OK... I've been reading everyone elses reviews and agree that PRIDE is the Premier MMA event on the planet... this isn't a good Pride tournament when you compare it to the likes of PRIDE 11 but it's still ok.... Dan Severn vs Kimo is one of the biggest bores you will ever see in MMA which is a shame but apart from that it's a pretty good card. The Pride fights have superb commentary .. it's not only accurate but alo really funny... a thing missing from alot of MMA , it's nice that the commentators are having fun.. Bas Rutten's pretty funny.
there are better PRIDES than this one... don't make it your only PRIDE FC tournament, but it would like really nice in your collection.

Inaugural event of top Japanese MMA
Lots of impressive names on this tape. Some highlights are Kazunari Muakami's textbook harai-gosh judo throw and the skull-crushing KO ending of the Goodridge/Taktarov fight. That was one that the ref should have stopped earlier. The White/Cikatic fight is kickboxing, and ends in disqualification. Cikatic's tactics wouldn't even be legal in MMA. Mitsuharu Kitao is Koji Kitao from UFC 9. His opponent must not have been told the rules, because he certainly didn't expect to be taken down. His panicked screams are pretty embarassing even to listen to. Rickson triumphs over an ill-prepared Takada.

PRIDE IS KING OF MMA
Wow this video is great, as a die hard UFC fan this is way better
then the Ultimate Fighting Championship.the dan seven vs.kimo
fight was boring but the rest of the fights were great, the best
fight was between akira shoji and renzo gracie.the main event
had the famous rickson gracie, who alot of people thank is the best fighter in the world,vs.the famous japanesse pro-wrestler

NBA: 100 Greatest Plays
Released in DVD by Warner Home Video (04 November, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Perhaps more than any other sport, basketball is a star-driven event: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Dennis Rodman, Shaquille O'Neal--the list could go on and on. But it's not necessarily these athletes' overall careers that we remember as much as the breathtaking individual plays these illustrious men have given us. Is it possible to break down a hundred of these greatest moments in NBA history? The NBA's 100 Greatest Plays certainly tries.

While last-minute heroics tend to be the standard by which we define excellence, there are many other moments that have left an indelible impression, many of them highlighted here. The video clips fall into 10 categories: Dunks, Alley-oops, Assists, Steals, Blocks, Teamwork, the Clutch Shot, Moves, Hustle, and Buzzer-Beaters. At the beginning of each section is a brief introduction. Before showing the top 10 dunks of all time, for example, we learn about the evolution of the dunk--from the first slam to the man who could fly, Michael Jordan--and we hear background commentary from NBA legends such as Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Dr. J, and Bill Russell. This video recalls familiar moments of NBA lore that you will want to own for countless repeat viewings. --Jeremy Storey

What Highlights Were Before The AND1 Era
The most important thing to remember when thinking about buying this DVD is that it was released in November of 2001. Many of today's stars were still young rooks: Jason Williams (c'mon, he did have some highlights early on), Vince Carter, etc. Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant and Shawn Marion were still just on the verge of the current run of super-talent superstardom.

It is an extremely ambitious thing to proclaim that you have picked out the Top 100 plays of all time in the NBA (these are broken down into Oops, Blocks, Steals, Dunks, Assists, Buzzer Beaters, Clutch plays, teamwork, hustle plays and moves, all presented in Top 10 format). That said, know that the plays the producers of this DVD have selected aren't based on the Ooh-And-Aah Meter, but rather a combination of Ooh-And-Aah and historical significance. For example, a Jordan buzzer beater to win a game in the playoffs will carry more weight than a flashier Jordan buzzer beater in a nothing game in the middle of the season.

For example, a spinning, over the head dish by Bob Cousy that is simple by today's standards is included in the Top 10 Assists because of Cousy's importance to the development of "necessary showmanship" at the point guard position. But the producers aren't just history buffs; they do know their ball, and there are some flashy plays mixed in with the important ones. The team work, hustle and steal Top 10s are among the weakest on the DVD (how flashy can a steal or hustle play really be? These are the ones that rely heavily on "historical importance.").

Each section has a mini-documentary that delves into what team work, dunking or assists are all about, built on interviews of NBA legends and current stars, with doses of highlights from those categories. They are easy to navigate, although there's no way to skip the mini-documentary other than fast forwarding through it. There's also a best of the latest section full of plays based on pure flash, and little significance. This reminds you of how dated the video is when the "up and comers" are the aforementioned J-Will and Air Canada.

If you haven't tapped into the AND1 universe of basketball highlight films (AND1 being street basketball on max amp level, with rules bended Matrix-style, with more focus on humiliating your opponent) then this video is for you. It's a good dose of historical NBA plays and some rare gems that won't show up on other NBA films. For AND1-tainted fans, the Moves, Assists, and teamwork sections will pale in comparison to the the stuff the street ballers have come up with. However, the Dunk, Blocks, Buzzer Beater and Clutch sections will still be fulfilling for all fans, AND1 or not. A rim-rocking throwdown, or a half-court buzzer beater is timeless, and well-respected on the hardwood and the asphalt.

Gems include a Kobe Bryant ankle-breaking crossover and amazing dunk taking off from nearly the free-throw line; a Jerry West game winner from half court after the other team thinks THEIR buzzer beater has won it; two sick blocks, one that Shawn Kemp sends well into the stands, and LaPhonso Ellis' infamous steal/block where he takes away a dunk and hangs on to the ball with one hand; tiny Kevin Johnson taking off and posterizing center "Hot Rod" Williams; and Magic Johnson pulling a (surprise!) AND1 move, taking the rock behind his back to avoid a defender, going around his torso, dropping a lefty pass to Byron Scott, who finishes with another poster.

It's good buy for all basketball fans; we've been trained by SportsCenter to live off of highlights and Top 10 Plays, so this is a full-out dose of nothing but highlights in Top 10 format.

A must-have for basketball junkies
This is a fantastic video for any basketball junkie suffering through those long summer months, or during the slow regular season when most NBA players are merely cashing in their pay checks on the court.

This DVD has always impressed those poor unfortunate souls who I torture by forcing them to watch it. Julius Erving's "Rock the Baby" slam dunk over the Lakers in 1983; Larry Bird's clutch steal against Isiah Thomas in the '87 Eastern Finals; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's magnificent sky-hook; Magic Johnson's no-look passes; and Michael Jordan's entire career.

Plus, you get the legendary calls from the hyperventilating play-by-play guys: Chick Hearn, Brent Musberger, Johnny Most, Marv Albert and (to a lesser extent) Bob Costas.

"The NBA's 100 Greatest Plays" is a little out of date now (it was released in 1999) and if you're a basketball fan from Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago or Boston, you'll undoubtedly enjoy it more than if you're a Grizzlies fan.

Plus, there are a few questionable calls here. I really don't think Bill Walton belongs anywhere on this DVD (unless it's him getting posterized by Dr. J) and the shortage of Allen Iverson footage is criminal.

All in all, if you're a basketball junkie that needs a fix, "The NBA's 100 Greatest Plays" will do in a pinch.

Starts great, then falters
The Jeremy Nobis sequence at the begining of this movie gets your hopes up but a mediocre soundtrack and a few annoying voice overs put this at the bottom of my list when looking over my ski movie collection. (13, Global Storming, Ski Movie, High Society, and Propaganda)

A must rent, but definitely not a must buy...

Should be a 5 star
With a movie that opens with Nobis straightlining a mounton up in Alaska and closing with Candide doing a 120 ft. gap, with 2 JH sections, Tanner Hall doing a huge rail off a huge cliff in Red Lodge, Europe trips, Nick Mercon, Shannon Schadd, Micah Black, and so many other pluses like the soundtrack, the only reason I didnt give it a 5 because there is about 10 minutes of snowboarding in it.

just another movie
Im still looking for THE ski movie. This one was really just another extreme skiing movie. The extras on the dvd are pretty nice. All round good but not exceptional.

no biggie
I love watching great fights w/ wicked strikes, blood, drama, and knockouts. A few of the fights were mildly entertaining but nothing worth the purchase. If you're a collector of mano e mano brawls on DVD then by all means add this to your collection. However if you're relatively new to full contact fighting you might get frustrated w/ the mostly ground based jujitsu-style techniques employed throughout this particular tournament.

Mismatches, but a an old favorite!
The first major American MMA event other than the UFC had quick/mismatched fights along with a classic. During the earlier days of MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu reigned supreme. Brazilians like Ralph Gracie, Conan Silviera, Carlson Gracie, jr., and Mario Sperry were to show their "superior" fighting skills, but not all of them succeeded. Both Ralph and Carlson Gracie had individual fights, while Conan and Mario "Zen Machine" Sperry had a tournament to deal with. The fight between Sperry and Igor Zinoviev was and is till this day a classic. That fight alone is worth the purchase of this DVD/VHS.

Also called Extreme Fighting
Good show but not a Pride FC. I'm adding my review only to lt people know that you get the same for cheaper if you look here in Amazon under Extreme Fighting instead of Battlecade:Extreme Fighting.

Seth - The Hard Way
Released in DVD by Brentwood Communications (21 November, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Seth Enslow
This frenetic documentary about motorcycle daredevil Seth Enslow chronicles his career as a madman on two wheels, focusing on his attempt to set the world's distance record for jumping a motorcycle more than 250 feet from one ramp to another. Enslow's reckless style is portrayed vividly with clips showing him doing things on a motorcycle that no sane person would even envision. He tries to ride up vertical mountainsides, he goes rocketing off cliffs, and in one segment that shows how he literally dropped onto the scene and established himself as an up and coming wild man, he sails through the air and lands on a desert hillside filled with parked motorcycles (whose owners madly scramble to avoid his unexpected landing). Enslow is interviewed on the radio by rapper Ice T, and he's followed on tour in various countries, doing motorcycle stunts and partying with his friends, who are, like he is, heavily tattooed dudes. The Hard Way showcases Enslow's obsession to set the world's distance jumping record, and even interviews the fellow who designed Enslow's ramp. Footage of the great jump includes Enslow's rough and bloody landing. As if that's not enough, the DVD contains an extra feature containing X-rays of Enslow's injuries. --Robert J. McNamara

Seth - The Hard Way
If I could give zero stars I would. I agree with the review by Ken L.

If you have kids DO NOT buy this video. Seth Enslow is reckless & irresponsible. Not the guy to be your kids hero.

McGrath, Carmichael, Pastrana etc., are guys you can look up to. Great riders, professional, responsible......

TRASH
THIS FILM HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH MOTORCYCLING AND MORE TO DO ABOUT SETH AND HIS WANABEE GANGSTER FRIENDS. SETH BEHAVES LIKE A PUNK IN THIS VIDEO, KIDS LOOK UP TO HIM, AND HE HAS LET THEM DOWN, HE HAS SHOWN THAT HE IS NOT WORTH LOOKING UP TO. IN ONE SCENE HIM AND HIS "POSSE" ARE WALKING DOWN THE STREET HOLDING ASSAULT RIFLES, WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MOTORCYCLING?? I ADVISE AGAINST BUYING HIS VIDEO, GIVE YOUR MONEY TO TRAVIS OR MCGRATH

Seth Rules
Seth rocks, this video is awesome, the best, and those who think that not showing it to their kids is a good thing, I mean please who are they kidding, would they rather them be watching Seth on a bike or big arnie shooting someone up or some homeboy selling drugs in half of the hollywood flicks today, I hate to shock them but kids have seen it all, a motocross video will do nothing to them, this one will however amaze them

Couldn't be sappier or more boring!
If you are into the spirituality of mountain biking and the whole bike culture this may be the DVD for you. If you like watching what is currently considered technical riding you will be very disappointed (As an old school 80s freestyler I can honestly say that the majority of the riding in this video wouldn't have been considered even slightly interesting back in the mid 80s.). The riding in this DVD is at best boring, and the comments by the narrator couldn't be any sappier. Don't let the fact that Hans Rey is 'featured' on this video delude you, one minute of JIB or Contact contains more trials type moves than this whole DVD. I still have not been able to watch the entire DVD, it's just too boring. The DVD does have good picture quality, but I have had some problems with the audio. When using 6 ch audio on my DVD player the volume comes and goes. The problem doesn't occur when using the optical output.

Inspiration
This film is for those of us who like to see what the pros can do on their bikes...it definitely makes you want to get out and pull some cool tricks as well. If you're looking for a film with no acting talent that brings humour and cool tricks, this film is it.

Tread, Re-Tread
Hooooow, wait up boring? This is a classic one! Espescially the dumb conversations between Hans Rey and Greg H. are super. The hamburger part is disgusting, but who cares about the tacky parts, it`s the riding that counts. And both can do things with bikes no one else can. This is a must have for mountainbikers! If only because of the part with Johnny T.
