Olympics WOW!
This DVD has some pretty amazing features I've never seen before. Stuff like, at any time while you're watching the competition, you press a cursor key and get a bio of the person on the screen. There are some very cool multi-angle things on the disc, too. It lets you check out the exhibition pieces from different angles. The other discs in the set are equally impressive. I recommend this set if for no other reason than you get to show off to your friends why DVD is so cool!

1998 Olympic Skating Competition Highlights
I am sorry for evaluation to have become slow. Goods arrived safely. I am very much satisfied. Thank you very much.

a great video for figure skating
This a great video for figure skating. It runs about 80 minutes. It features the battle for gold between Michelle Kwan and Tara Lipinski - one of the most hotly contested figure skating competitions in the Olympic History. Also this video shows off the incredible talents of Eldredge, Stojko, Kulik... in the Men's competitions. The DVD of the 'Exhibition Highlights' also is a very good video.

not bad DVD, great women!
The women are so beautiful, but the DVD could have been done a little bit better!

Exotic locations in Malaysia and Mexico
Exotic locations in Malaysia and Mexico with of course, very distracting beautiful super models sharing their intimate thoughts on men.
Great soundtrack! Great quotes! "Men know how to find way to their women's hearts, they just all have different approach but they know." -Daniela Pestova.

Klum casts her net !
If you like HEIDI KLUM,the SI 2000 DVD will simply leave you in awe. I mean Heidi Klum casts a pretty large 'net'by sharing herself; as she's one of the most beautiful creatures on earth ( or simply put, she seems to really get around on the internet ) She is everywhere!

I suspect the SI folks know they have a woman who will propel far beyond her essential beginings. BUT THE DVD really is just a killer. She is drop dead gorgious in a lay-out with a snake, and other wildlife in Mylasia. With the animals she poses on, she poses the age old question of are all of these women in the SI swimsiut 2000 issue 'masters of the universe?' From what I saw of Heidi Klum, I'd say without a doubt. I believe most of us mortal men would follow most of them right off the edge of a cliff :-) I highly recommend this DVD The only other "thing" that blasts me in to utopia are the Beatles.

Nurpu (Freeride Kayaking)
Released in DVD by Redline Entertainment -- Red - (22 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Alex Allen and Brad Ludden
Hey, dude, let's do some serious kayaking. If Nurpu (the Tibetan symbol for mountains and rivers) had a little more dialogue, that's what you'd hear, over and over and over. For this is whitewater kayaking in the vertical extreme, a Warren Miller-style homage, channeled through Generation X. A team of 20 kayakers (mostly guys), including a couple of pro paddlers, drop down waterfalls and cartwheel through challenging river rapids in 14 countries, including Nepal, Bali, Austria, Canada, and Chile. The footage is astonishing, as are the moves of the paddlers, who control their kayaks like second skins in this hormonally charged wild-water ride. "The Making of Nurpu," also on the DVD, adds much-needed insight to the 45-minute main attraction, which is short on narrative and relies on the action footage and hip-sounding music to carry the day. Behind the scenes, the gifted filmmaker and team members discuss the one-year odyssey that took them around the world, where every day was "an epic powder day" on water. --Valerie J. Nelson

Was expecting more.
First off...this is a good film...I was just expecting more.

More what??? More footage...it's relatively short. More content...it's ho-hum. More umph...it's tame.

The scenery is beautiful. The video is clear and crisp.

I found it difficult to keep up with which location they were boating while I was viewing the DVD. Perhaps a little naration would have helped.

I am a novice whitewater enthusiast (so those more experienced may disagree), but the stuff they were playing on only gave me a "hey...wow...look at that ..." a couple of times.

It's good...I was just expecting more.

The best of the best
this is the best video of kayak i have see since many year

good flick
Great action, high quality picture, spectacular footage. Could have substituted some of the hippie stuff for more paddling action. I can go to the park and watch people meditate and play footbag for free. Overall Nurpu is an extremely well done film with fairly continuous action coupled with a good soundtrack.

When it Was a Game 3
Released in DVD by Hbo Studios (12 December, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: When It Was a Game and Mickey Mantle
Taking the viewer back to the old ball game, HBO celebrates America's pastime in the beautiful documentary When It Was a Game 3. Focusing on the 1960s, a time of change for all of America, the film shows how Major League Baseball slowly but surely evolved from pure sport to moneymaking entertainment. The sharp, incredibly clear color footage of players and fans is at times better looking than current sports photography, and the voiced-over reminiscences of stars such as Bob Costas and Billy Crystal evoke a different, more personal, sports experience from what we expect today. Covering the mighty Yankees, the western expansion of both leagues, the increasing inclusion of black players, and the rise of free agency and increased salaries, the film shows the growth of baseball from adolescence to adulthood. --Rob Lightner
Average review score:

WHERE'S THE AMERICAN LEAGUE???
This should be titled "When it was a game in the National League". Far too much footage of the senior circuit, albeit excellent footage. Otherwise very well done like the previous 2 films, the part about bat day and baseball cards will evoke smiles from the 30-50 year old range of fans. Bob Costas and Billy Crystal offer their usual fine perspectives, much like in Ken Burn's "Baseball". Great shots of the old stadiums, especially Yankee Stadium and Candlestick Park. Reasonably priced DVD, worthy for your collection.

Beautiful color home movies of baseball in the 1960s
I was wondering if the magic of seeing color home movies of major league baseball players was going to wear off in "When it Was a Game 3" since this installment of the HBO special focuses primarily on the 1960s. After all, that was the decade when you could actually watch baseball games in color on the Game of the Week and during the World Series. But if this documentary proves anything it is that movie color is brighter and bolder than the washed out colors of television in those days. You watch the film of Mickey Mantle and think this is how you want to remember the man.

The third volume in also the most organized in the series. There are rather distinct "chapters" on the great pitchers of the decade (Gibson, Marichal, Koufax), the glory days and rapid decline of the New York Yankees, the lowly birth and sudden success of the New York Mets, and the case for Willie Mays being the greatest player of the decade. There even is a bit of sports journalism involved in suggesting that the decline of the Yankees had to do with the refusal of the team management to sign black ball players. This time you will also find that more often than not whoever's voice you hear, whether it is Al Kaline or Joe Pepitone, actually appears on the screen. Billy Crystal is back to talk about baseball again as is sportscaster Bob Costas, and there are more baseball poems, including, of course, Grantland Rice's "Game Called," which brings the show to a close.

As always, the ultimate appeal of the "When it Was a Game" series is that you get to see the baseball players you grew up admiring, who lived before your time and were only available as black & white images in color. Rich, gorgeous color that makes the red on the bill of Hank Aaron's cap, the blue on Don Drysdale' hat, the organge of the name "Oriole" on Brooks Robinson's jersey, and the green of the Yankee Stadium grass look as good as you have ever seen them. Again, I am reminded of the classic Bowman 1953 baseball cards that had gorgeous color photographs.

So Beautiful You Might Cry
Will purchase soon...saw on HBO. This is as close to getting in a time machine as there is. American League? Lot's of Yankee footage, but not much more. Then again, in the fifties and early sixties the Yankees WERE the American League. If you fantasize about sitting behind third at the Polo Grounds, seeing what Berra and Mantle looked like just being themselves, or want really good footage of Clemente and Mays, this is for you, kids.

46 minutes of thrashing cycle action
From freeride, to motocross, to desert racing, the "Children Of A Metal God" trilogy has got it all--most of it on crystal clear 16mm film. A must for any dirtbike enthusiast!

They have only gotten better the 3rd time around
If you thought the first two were good, CMG 3 is faster harder and will have you on the edge of your seat through out the entire flick. It will have you screaming NO-WAY over and over again. A must in your collection of Hardcore vidoes.

Cho Oyu, West of Everest
Released in DVD by (05 March, 2003)
MPAA Rating:
Director: Tim Boelter
Average review score:

A good account of what it takes to climb Cho Oyu
This DVD was a pleasant surprise. Many mountaineering videos don't adequately capture the trials necessary to climb big mountains like Cho Oyu. This one gives an accurate account of the challenges and difficulties they faced. Although the title suggests that this is an "easy" mountain, their experiences were much different, with only a small fraction of their team actually making it to the summit. As a documentary, it showed what a humbling experience it truly was.
The DVD was well very professionally done, which is something I don't always expect in mountaineering films. It was well narrated, and seemed like a show I would expect to see on TV sports documentaries.
I thought the DVD was worth the money, but I may also be biased as I summited Cho Oyu at the same time as this documentary was produced and got to meet the people involved.

Excellent
The film is very professionally done with beautiful shots. To me, it's worth the money just for that. But I think what I appreciated most about it is that it doesn't do what a lot of these films do in terms of being melodramatic. It's a very straightforward and very accurate portrayal of Himalayan climbing, from the widespread sickness to the yellow snow and even death. I most definitely recommend it -- one of the best I've seen.

Pride FC - Championship Chaos
Released in DVD by Bci Eclipse Llc (22 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating:
Starring: K Sakuraba and W Silva
Average review score:

Historically important, but definitely NOT the best.
As my title suggests, this title is a MUST-OWN for MMA enthusiasts. Not because its a superior card top-to-bottom, but because there are a two fights that mark an important point in MMA's history.

1) Silva/Sakuraba - This fight marks the beginning of the end for the great Kazushi Sakuraba. Silva's absolute dismantling of Sakuraba, who was previously thought to be unbeatable, not only affected the fans, but possibly Sakuraba himself, as his career never really recovered afterwards. It also truely, finally, marked the return of stand-up striking to the sport of MMA. No longer could a great grappler use strikes to merely set up the takedown, from then on a fighter had be able to handle himself standing or he would lose.

2) Nogueira/Herring - This is when Antonio Nogueira won the heavyweight belt. Nogueira is considered to be the greatest heavyweight in MMA history, and although he has since lost his title, his run of wins immediately following this event will go down in history as one of the great all-time streaks.

Also on this event is Henderson/Rua, which is an exciting throwdown complete with a controversial judges' decision.

With those three fights you're probably wondering why I don't consider this event to be the best. That's because, true to Pride's history, this event also includes some terrible mis-matches.

1) Renzo/Ohara - Ohara is a pro-wrestler with no business being in the ring with a legend like Renzo Gracie. He probably knew that himself as he spent the entire fight stalling, playing defense, and generally avoiding Renzo altogether. Most boring fight ever in my opinion.

2) Jackson/Ishizawa - Ishizawa was outmatched in every facet of the game and got beaten down quickly. Complete mismatch.

There you have it. Those are the important fights on this DVD, take it for what you will.

Excellent Pride Fighting!
I really enjoyed this one! The headline fight of Sakuraba and Silva was great! The undercard fights were also interesting and exciting. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira v. Heath Herring was an excellent fight - belongs on a greatest fights dvd! Also always enjoyable to watch Vovchanchyn, Henderson, Gracie, and Sperry.

Pride FC - Championship Chaos
Two fighters will be crowned champions in this event. Here's a rundown of all the matchups:

1. Tom Erikson vs. Matt Skelton: A traditional grappler vs. striker match. Erikson, a world class wrestler, takes on Skelton, a K-1 veteran. A complete mismatch.

2. Dan Henderson vs. Murilo Rua: This match between two rising stars in MMA was intense. Lots of takedowns and reversals. It was a war.

3. Renzo Gracie vs. Michiyoshi Ohara: Renzo Gracie returns to the Pride ring after going through a brief slump in previous events. Ohara, a pro wrestler, makes his MMA debut. Very boring match.

4. Mario Sperry vs. Igor Vovchanchyn: One of the best grapplers from the Brazilian Top Team takes on the most devastating striker in MMA competition. The ending will astonish you!

5. Quinton Jackson vs. Yuki Ishikawa: Team Punishment team member Jackson faces off with another Japanese pro wrestler. Good match. You will see someone attempt a piledriver in this match.

6. Semmy Schilt vs. Masaaki Satake: A former King of Pancrase takes on a K-1 veteran. Schilt's reach was definitely a huge factor in this match (Schilt is 7 feet tall).

7. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Heath Herring: This match was for the Pride Heavyweight Championship. Herring has been on a roll in Pride, scoring victories over top quality opponents. Nogueira has to be considered the best submission fighter in the heavyweight division. He has beaten many fighters using submissions. Very good match. Lots of action. Both fighters were at their best.

8. Vanderlei Silva vs. Kazushi Sakuraba: This match was for the Pride Middleweight Championship. This is a rematch from Pride FC - Collision Course. Sakuraba was looking for redemption, for he was brutally beaten in his first encounter with Silva. Another good match, although the result was disappointing.

9. Mirko Cro Cop vs. Nobuhiko Takada: This match is not included in the DVD, although it is listed on the package.

Championship Chaos is definitely one of Pride's best shows. Plenty of action and some surprising finishes. MMA fans should definitely purchase this DVD.

Pride FC - Clash of the Titans

Worth the money!
I didn't know all the fighters, but most of the matches were pretty action packed. Always fun to watch Chuck Liddell, Vanderlei Silva, Vitor Belfort, Guy Mezger, Igor Vovchanchyn, Dan Henderson, Gary Goodridge, and Gilbert Yvel. This and Cold Fury were two of my favorites.

Pride 14. Another great show put on by DSE
Pride 14 is a very up and down show. There are some great knockouts, some excellent submissions, and two distance fights.

(not in correct order)

1) Antonio Schrembi X Johil De Olivera - a great graplling match with multiple submission attempts.

2) Pele Landi X Daijiru Matsui - Brazilian superstar Pele finally makes his Pride debut. Can he handle the never say die attitude of the Matsui?

3) Chuck Lidell X Guy Mezger - Lidell makes his Pride debut in a back and forth match that ends in a huge knockout.

4) Gary Goodridge X Valentijn Overeem - short yet sweet match. Wait till you see Goodridge's anticts after the match!

5) Vitor Belfort X Heath Herring - a very contraversially decision. Who really wins this fight?

6) Akira Shoji X Dan Henderson - Dan returns to the ring to fight the second never say die fighter from Japan, Shoji. One man in this fight gets PUNISHED!

7) Vanderlei Silva X shungo Oyama - Silva returns after KOing Sakuraba. Can he keep up his Japanese winnings?

8) Igor Vovchanchyn X Gulbert Yvel - In what should be a striking match-up, this fight surprizingly hits the ground and ends in submission.

9) Yoshihiro Takayama X kazuyuki Fujita - a surprizingly good match-up. Both men show a ton of heart.

Overall, a pretty darn good show. Unfortunetly, there were a couple slow spots in the matches that for the most, can be overlooked.

Another Great Pride event
This Pride event has been overlooked by many (probably because it doesn't contain a Gracie or Sakuraba fight), but it showcases many of the greatest fighters in all of mixed martial arts. If nothing else, buy the event for the Chuck Liddell vs. Guy Mezger fight. It's a great fight from 2 of the best light heavyweights in the world and 2 of the best strikers in the world.

The lineup also contains Igor Vovchanchyn, Gilbert Yvel, Kazuyuki Fujita, Vanderlei Silva, Gary Goodridge, Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson, and Heath Herring. Most of their matches aren't as exciting to watch as they could be, but they're good.

Pride FC 4 - From the Tokyo Dome
Released in DVD by Brentwood Communications (16 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Pride Fc, R Gracie, and N Takada
Average review score:

Hello Igor, goodbye Rickson, Ruas
Pride 4 saw the first of the "Ukraine-Machine" and the last (in Pride) of the best of the Gracie's. Overall an OK card with some good and bad fights.

Fights that are worth mentioning are the Wallid Ismail/Akira Shoji fight. A little bit of a surprise, considering the reputation of the individual who choked Royce Gracie out in a BJJ match getting rocked and eventually Ko'd!

The Otsuka/Ruas was the shocker of the night. Watch as a pro-wrestler takes advantage of an ill MMA legend.

The fight of the night was the Sakuraba/Goes fight. Before Sak took the world (and the Gracies) by storm, he had to deal with a crafty BJJ vet in Allan Goes. The fight was a see-saw battle of two great submission fighters. These guys really put on a good show.

The Main Event was a rematch of the Main Event of Pride I. Pro-wrestler Nobuhiko Takada was back (unfortunately) to face Rickson Gracie. In their first encounter, Rickson steamrolled over the inexperienced Takada. This fight would be a little longer, but with no true surprises. The Japanese fans demanded the rematch, and Rickson agreed to the lucrative contract....again going for the payday instead of engaging against a formidable opponent.

With some drawbacks
This DVD has it's share of greatness. And a dominace of matches between Japan and Brazil. Featuring the Great Rickson Gracie, and about every Takada Dojo member there is. This Card had it's share of Action, but overall it is slow. Not alot of action, far inferior to Pride 10. Which is in my opinon still the best assembled card.

Great Show
Pride 4 was on October 11, 1998 at the Tokyo Dome.

The first fight is between IFC 1 tournament winner, WVC 5 tournament winner and AFC 3 tournament winner Igor Vovchanchyn and UFC 8 finalist and IVC 1 tournament winner Gary Goodridge. This is a good fight with a great ending.

The second fight is between Lumax Cup 1997 and Pride veteran Akira Shoji and Universal Vale Tudo, IVC and UFC 12 veteran Wallid Ismael. Great fight with a great ending.

The third fight is between Pride veteran Daijiro Matsui and Lumax Cup and Japan Vale Tudo 1996 veteran Sanae Kikuta. A slow fight but a interesting one.

The fourth fight is between UFC Japan tournament winner and Pride veteran Kazushi Sakuraba and Pancrase, Extreme Fighting and UFC 17 veteran Allan Goes. Great fight but the ending is not great. I want a rematch between these two great fighters.

The fifth fight is between K-1 veteran Satoshi Homna and Pride veteran Yuhi Sano. This is one of the most one-sided matches I have seen, but it is good.

The sixth fight is between pro wrestler Alexander Otsuka and UFC 7 tournament winner, World Vale Tudo and Pride veteran Marco Ruas. This is one interesting fight.

The seventh fight is between WVC 3 tournament winner, UFC 14 & 15 tournament winner and Pride veteran Mark Kerr and Universal Vale Tudo and UFC 17 veteran Hugo Duarte. This is another interesting fight.

The main event is between Pride veteran Nobuhiko Takada and Japan Vale Tudo 1994 and 1995 tournament winner Rickson Gracie. This fight is better than the one at Pride 1.

I recommand this show anyone who likes MMA.

Transworld Skateboarding - I.E. (Video No. 11)
Released in DVD by Redline Entertainment -- Red - (22 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Mark Appleyard, Diego Bucchieri, and Caine Gayle
This documentary, which profiles several young men whose creative expression consists of doing tricks on skateboards, rises above being a standard skateboard flick, thanks to some very professional photography. The camera often follows skateboarders as they careen through public places, managing to keep pace with the action so risky tricks can be appreciated up close. Common techniques involve hopping a skateboard up onto steps and benches, or better yet, onto steel banisters that run alongside concrete stairways. In tight shots of skaters zipping down the banisters, the split-second timing and perfect balance required to perform such feats is impressive. There's a montage of skaters seen hurting themselves when tricks fail, reinforcing the aspect of danger more effectively than the obligatory warning at the beginning of the film not to try these stunts at home. The need to always find a new challenge is apparent, and there's a brief visit to a garage outfitted with ramps where skateboarders practice new tricks before showing them off on public sidewalks. A running theme of the production is how the young men are constantly being hassled, with security guards always seeming to show up to order them off private property. Depending on your point of view, of course, a skateboard hero can be just an immature nuisance. But this 35-minute film provides a generally positive look at some of the flashiest skateboarding captured on video. --Robert J. McNamara
Average review score:

Great sk8 video on a no frills DVD.
The skating and music are simply awesome. The focus is mainly on street with a little bit of vert in the montage sections. Excellent performances throughout, but Daewon Song and Diego Bucchieri really stand out. Daewon demonstrates his ability to skate roof-gaps and picnic tables in "weird configurations." Diego shows a lot of speed and guts when it comes to stairs and ledges. The encounters with authority figures are equally entertaining and disturbing. An extra special montage of injuries is included for your horrific pleasure.

There are no extras or bonus material, not even a menu. You just load the DVD and it plays from start to finish without chapter breaks; kinda annoying if you want to get to a particular section right away. At least it's not like VHS, where repeated playback will cause diminished video quality, and you'll probably be playing this one a lot! The audio dynamics are a bit muffled. This problem can be compensated (somewhat) by turning up the treble.

Overall, a very magical and hypnotic viewing experience that will leave you reminiscing about those crazy summer days of yore. I highly recommend.

a dvd with nothing special at all, pretty dissapointing
I would have given this video five stars, but this is a horrible dvd. Skating is top notch in this video, but the picture quality is just the same as vhs, which is lame. Plus, you can't even skip to people's parts. There is no bonus footage, no menu, nothing special. This is a great skate flick with great music from people like Built to Spill, The Sea and Cake, and Mr. Dibbs and is definitely worth viewing, but don't get it expecting a lot from it since it is a dvd like I did. Redline Action Sports who put this video on dvd obviously just wanted to cash in on skateboarding's current popularity and didn't really wan't to make a high quality dvd for skateboarders to enjoy.

illustrated example
great video with dyrdek and his tf, caine gayle, the butcher, mark appleyard with short hair, it's great
