Gone in 60 Seconds 2: Deadline Auto Theft
Released in DVD by Navarre Corporation/ (02 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: H.B. Halicki
Average review score:

Gone in 60 Seconds 2 was great, everything else a letdown
I'm from Toby's hometown and really enjoyed the unfinished Gone in 60 Seconds 2 which was filmed in our area. Great to see some locals in the movie. I would have purchased for just this unfinished footage. Deadline Auto Theft was huge let down. It was most of the orginal Gone in 60 Seconds. I own that and Junkman and my kids and I have always enjoyed the car chases.

Ripped Off......in 60 seconds!
I need to start by saying that this is a "2 Film" DVD. The first film is called "Deadline:Auto Theft", which is marketed as the final film in the Trilogy of Halicki movies. The packaging and cover art depict a Gullwinged sportscar being chased by the cops, led by chief Hoyt Axton. Being an avid fan of the Halicki films, Gone in 60 seconds and Junkman, I was very excited to see the big finale.
What a major letdown. The first 10 minutes of the film have a great car chase and some shots of Hoyt Axton doing police work. Then, the film transitions into "the original Gone in 60 seconds"? The last 80 minutes of this movie are the original film? How can this be the third in the Trilogy, if it is the same as the first movie. I felt completely ripped off!!!!!!!
What is up with this deception by Halicki Studios?
The second film is the unfinished Gone in 60 second 2, which is where Halicki ultimately met his death. It's nothing compared to the original, but I was just pleased at that point, that it wasn't a redub of the Junkman.
For completionists like myself, Buy the DVD, but just don't expect anything out of the first movie.
I still would have bought this DVD, if it was packaged The original Gone w/added footage and Gone 2. I just can't figure out why all the deceit?
Oh well!

Wrecking Mania !
If you what romance,go see a chick flic! You what to see stuff get trashed, this is the movie for you! This movie is about wrecking cars, planes, and a house. Is a great low cost 80's car film a was worth the price.

JFK: The Day the Nation Cried
Released in DVD by View Video (14 May, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Bruce Halford
This 1988 documentary narrated by actor James Earl Jones provides a generally admiring overview of the Kennedy years coupled with a touching look at how a shocked nation reacted to the death of JFK. Notables including former President Gerald Ford, former Speaker of the House Thomas "Tip" O'Neill, violinist Isaac Stern, and historian and Kennedy confidante Arthur Schlesinger Jr. reminisce about Kennedy, remembering how he inspired them and how his death touched them deeply. Home movies of the Kennedy family provide some biographical color. Rarely seen breaking news coverage aired only on a local Dallas station and interviews with witnesses to the assassination, including home movie buff Abraham Zapruder (who had just taken his famed film of Kennedy's motorcade), show the immediate reaction to the tragedy. This documentary is competently assembled, and while it doesn't provide any particularly surprising insights, it does offer a reasonably balanced look at Kennedy's achievements and lasting legacy. --Robert J. never got it
This dvd was supposed to be sent to me by orderbox.com. I received a different movie, returned it, and have not heard from them nor received the dvd I ordered nor been re-embursed. I checked orderbox.com's feedback and I would suggest NOT buying from them. If anyone out there would like to sell this dvd to me I would like to buy it so I can review it.

1988 historically documentary on Kennedy's life and death
This is the first-ever DVD edition of this 1988 documentary on the assassination hosted by James Earl Jones, produced by WFAA, ABC's Dallas affiliate. During the 25th anniversary, this documentary aired on ABC, and it is unique because it mostly deals with everything America "lost" in 1963 as opposed to the minute-by-minute details of the assassination. In fact, Kennedy's actual death is not mentioned till near the end of this 50 minute documentary. The majority of the program deals with Kennedy's rise to the presidency and his time in office. Other than some slanted references about "a man with a rifle in a window," this documentary remains pleasantly unbiased. It is the life and death of JFK from a historical perspective. The only bonus feature is an edited newsreel of sorts that offers about ten additional minutes of (mostly poor quality) black and white footage of JFK (only 30 secs. about the assassination, though). Overall, this DVD edition is worth it to have all the vintage news footage in a digital format. If you are interested in the details of the actual assassination, buy "The Men Who Killed Kennedy" on DVD instead.

good tape
this tape only briefly mentions on JFK's assassination. it mostly talks about his life and how he rose to power. James Earl Jones is the narrator and also talks very briefly about JFK's assassination.
still a good tape for those who liked Kennedy.

A humerous representation of an Alien landing
What would happen if a pair of chattering teeth came from one of the moons of Jupiter to inhabit a human corpse and wreak havoc on homosexual college students? I really didn't know until I saw this movie. If Mystery Science Theater took requests I would think that this movie would be perfect for them. Let me tell you this movie was so low budget that the dubbing was at least a fourth of a second off the whole way through. If it wasn't for the lack of dialouge, plot, good camera work, and dazzling special effects I would have given this movie five stars but it was funny and what else was I going to do for 48 minutes (I fast forwarded through most of it) so I decided to give it a 2. You should see it anyway though because then I'll know that someone else had to watch it too. We can't let great low budget movies vanish from the video archives. We can't let that happen!

Here is a great piece of "bad film" heaven awaiting your rediscovery. The idea for this film is actually kinda cool: radiation from a meteorite which crashes in a swamp re-animates the corpse of a bumped-off gangster who goes around wreaking underlit havoc, namely in an old mansion that our teen protagonists decide to spend a weekend in. This premise might have actually worked were it not for the pitiful excuse for a monster-- some guy in a black jumpsuit with a rubber skull, that you could get at K-Mart for Halloween, which is half torn off. it has the feel of a bunch of buddies getting together and doing their own tribute to 1950's sci-fi. And the picture looks like someone's home movie too-- what do the avant-gardists say? "The home movie esthetic"? In any case, the film is by turns tedious and delightfully cheesy, and it has a way of staying with you afterwards.

Judgment Day
Released in DVD by Artisan Entertainment (14 November, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: John Terlesky
An enormous asteroid is heading towards Earth and threatens to wipe out all life on the planet! Sound familiar? Since the Cold War nuclear-threat movies played out sometime in the early Nineties, there was a spate of films that found the Earth threatened by H.R. Giger-style aliens or giant rocks from outer space. With a movie like Judgment Day, comparisons to Independence Day and Deep Impact are inevitable. Actually, this direct-to-video release is the more enjoyable, without the insultingly simplistic plot of the former or the heavy-handed chin-rubbing portent of the latter. A boulder crashes into a Peruvian village, obliterating it; it's a mere pebble compared to the whopper that will crash earthward in a couple of days. The military brass opts for a Star Wars-style weapon to destroy it, but the only man who can help make the thing work has been kidnapped by a cult led by religious head-case Mario Van Peebles. Enter the FBI and convict Ice-T, imprisoned for taking revenge on Van Peebles to settle a personal score. The film veers towards being a political thriller, a 'hood movie (with a Coolio cameo), an action film, a buddy movie and old-fashioned sci-fi along the way, but the sum total is a pretty entertaining B-movie that never quite takes itself too seriously. Fans of TV's Barney Miller should enjoy seeing Max Gail getting a migraine as the head of Air Defense Command, Van Peebles is great as the charismatic religious screwball and Ice-T is…well, Ice-T. --Jerry Renshaw

This move is really judgment day
For Ice T and Mario Van Pepples that is. Two of the worst actor to ever grace the screen star in a movie together and whatz worst hollywood is still givin this cats money to make more films what the f--- are they thinkin. If you want to rent a movie with a fine woman(Shireen Crutchfield) rent this movie if you want a good movie rent something else. Mos def!

Excellent plot, low budget?
Judgement Day is similar to Armageddon and Deep Impact, which came out around the same time in 1998-1999. But if I had to choose the best PLOT of any of the "big rock hits earth" movies, it would be Judgement Day. However, there are a few actors who just do not fit the roles they are cast in. Yet the three primary actors are Ice-T, Suzi Amis, and Mario Van Peebles. Their roles are solid and convincing.

There are about fifty dollars worth of special effects in the movie and, being a "big rock in space, hits earth" movie, that should tell you something.

If you get this, do so for the story. The plot (with minor development) is by far excellent compared to any of the other movies of this genre.

Average production, but interesting story
The premise: A giant meteor is expected to crash into Earth in amatter of days -- a crash that would cause global devastation. Oneman can stop it: Dr. David Corbett, the creator of a Star Wars-esquemissile defense system.

The feds aren't the only group looking forhim; militant religious cult leader Thomas Payne believes thatjudgment day is rightly upon us, and will do anything he can to keepCorbett from stopping the meteor.

The government is forced to enlistthe help of Payne's arch-enemy Matthew Reese, a convicted killer, whois the only man who would know Payne's whereabouts.

"JudgmentDay" puts a new and different spin on the whole "meteordestroying the Earth" story. Rather than concentrating ondestroying the meteor, the movie largely deals with finding the manwho can and stopping the man who would let the Earth be destroyed. For this, it gets three stars.

The acting isn't the best, but itisn't the worst I've ever seen. Ice T is probably the worst of thebunch. Since I really don't remember how the rest did, I'm notawarding any stars for the acting. I don't remember it being too goodor bad though.

In short, if you want to see a different spin on themeteor arc, check this film out; you might like it.

The Secret KGB JFK Assassination Files
Released in DVD by Madacy (Music Distributor) (18 September, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: David McKenzie (III)
Average review score:

Nothing New or Revealing
What you do not get on this DVD is any new information based upon KGB investigations into the JFK assassination. Instead, here's what's actually on this DVD:

1. There's about 10 minutes of the history of why the KGB investigated JFK's death which is the only interesting part of the DVD, but which sheds absolutely no light on the whole matter.

2. There are about 10 minutes about Oswald's trip to the USSR which researchers have already known about for a long time. What the DVD completely fails to mention is such interesting evidence as, e.g., the training Oswald received from the Marines in speaking Russian prior to this trip, suggesting, albeitly inconclusively, that this trip may have been part of a military intelligence operation.

3. The rest of the video having anything to do with Russia (about another 10 minutes) merely shows that based upon information everyone else in the world already knew, the KGB concluded that JFK was killed as part of a conspiracy and not by a lone gunman, but they still debate amongst themselves just as much as anyone else who did it and for what motive.

Particularly fishy on this DVD is a scene, captured on "hidden camera", of someone supposedly purchasing secret KGB files from Russian blackmarketers. Several items calling this scene into doubt are: i) the buyer is originally quoted a sum of only $5000, which is extremely little for stealing any KGB files, let alone those regarding the JFK assassination, ii) the blackmarketers appear to have american accents (the sound quality isn't very good so I can't say with absolute certainty), iii) the blackmarketers have perfect american speech patterns, iv) the blackmarketers, now demanding an undisclosed extra amount of money, hand over the documents to the buyer to examine before getting the additional amount now required, v) the blackmarketers are unarmed and don't bother pursuing the buyer as he then "escapes" up the stairs and into an empty parking lot. If this really happened, Russian blackmarketers do not deserve their scary reputation.

And all that these secret files supposedly reveal is that the KGB suspected possible Vietnamese involvement in the assassination, which is completely inconsistent with a subsequent coverup by the US government. The US would blare such information everywhere in order to support their "police action".

4. The rest of the film, as noted by others, has nothing to do with KGB files, but instead reports evidence about the assassination in an extremely selective manner in order to avoid making Warren Commission apologists like Posner, whom they give a forum, look completely foolish. Posner suggests, against all evidence, that Oswald was a lone anarchist gunman who killed JFK and lied about being a Marxist in order to get on the news. Based upon evidence proven to be false (completely discounted forensic reports contradicting all physical and photographic evidence, and apparently the altered Zapruder film) a couple of Russian forensic experts conclude JFK was shot from behind with a magic bullet. A team of U.S. forensic experts, OPERATING UPON THE ASSUMPTION THAT JFK WAS SHOT FROM BEHIND, set up a test to determine where the shot came from using lasers. Their first several tests show that if he was shot from behind, that it came from the second floor of the Bell-Tex building and not the 6th floor of the book depository, so the "experts" unscientifically keep altering the positioning of their dummies and the car until they get the result they want. These experts also ignore, e.g., the fact that a tree used to block the view from the depository. One guy proves he can, after repeated practice, while lying down at ground level and with no visual obstructions and without the need to adjust for aim, shoot accurately at three completely stationary ground level targets in only 6 seconds while using the same kind of rifle as Oswald supposedly used (without fully duplicating the wear and tear to the rifle found at the depository), thus proving absolutely nothing. All of these "tests" are reported uncritically by the filmmakers. In an attempt to show they're balanced, the filmmakers provide a few minor soundbites from people like Mark Lane.

Of course it's impossible to summarize all the evidence regarding JFK in 90 minutes, but this film manages to avoid reporting even any of the most important and uncontroversial evidence while giving a forum to people conducting experiments based upon unscientific assumptions contradicting such evidence. I don't pretend to know the answers to the JFK assassination, but this DVD is absolute nonsense.

More Posner Disinformation
This DVD has little to do with any "secret KGB files"; it is largely bombast constructed from stock footage. Although it seems to give equal time to respected critics of the Warren Report like Mark Lane and Robert Groden, it belongs on the shelf next to the Posner whitewash as it continues to support our greatest national public lie. A genuine waste of money. Anton Vodvarka, Hartly DE

Roger Moore is a wonderful host and narrator.
No other JFK assassination documentary has film footage like this DVD has. Gives a behind the sceens look into the KGB and the Soviet Union's investigation into the JFK assassination. This DVD gives the big picture of the crime of the century. It is a must for all historians and first time students.

Nightstalker
Released in DVD by Columbia Tristar Hom (05 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Chris Fisher (III)
Average review score:

Best Part? The cover of the DVD.
It's true. The cover is the only decent thing about this movie. I like a good horror flick like the rest of them and being based on a true story, I thought it would definatley be worthwhile. Wrong. This movie drags. It is completely anti-climactic. It opens with crazy camera effects, in the style of Jacob's Ladder, and fades from there. The acting is weak, there are no good build ups as it seems put together without much thought, and doesn't deliver the eerie feeling that good horror movies can bring. It's filmed in the dark and the spooky scenes are rushed so it just seems like one big "filler" of lame dialogue and poor acting. On the whole, the movie is anemic.

Not a detailed or fully true account of Richard Ramirez.
A full complete story of killer Richard Ramirez and all of his "Night Stalker" killings has yet to be told. This film is not the one. This is a very poorly-made drama and badly filmed project. The sexual acts and the murders are all shown in a very fast speed. Subliminal quick shots. It goes by too fast for the naked eye to see every frame. You will have to slow down, "step" or frame by frame your DVD playing to see what is going on. Not a very detailed and not much insightful information given in this one. The makers were too carried away with the special effects. This version of Richard Ramirez is all wrong. Even the capture of Ramirez is wrong. He actually was caught in the daytime by one man and the rest of the neighborhood chased after him. This film does not portray that. The special effects of the evilness of Ramirez (the evil spirit shown in special effect) is probably accurate, I mean it sets the tone of what Ramirez is. DVD includes in special features, two deleted scenes. The best version I can recommend to you is MANHUNT: SEARCH FOR THE NIGHT STALKER (1989-TV).

Not bad 2.5 stars
Could've of been better, but it's not as bad as most reviewers claim it is. I've seen FAR FAR FAR worse movies then this. I say rent it. Watch it alone in the dark.

D-Day, the Sixth of June
Released in DVD by Fox Home Entertainme (21 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Henry Koster
D-Day the Sixth of June is a misleading title for a very tame wartime romance with barely 10 minutes of combat in the last reel. What we mostly get is a year's worth of flashbacks depicting the reluctant, London-based affair of a married U.S. staff officer (Robert Taylor) and a British Red Cross worker (Dana Wynter) whose commando suitor (Richard Todd) is fighting in Africa. To be sure, the emotional desperation and embattled decency of good people in time of war is as worthy of film treatment as any military campaign, and the script works preinvasion Anglo-American tensions into the story. But the CinemaScope production is utterly formulaic, with leaden direction by Henry Koster. Wynter's porcelain beauty apparently didn't permit changes of expression, and Taylor looks about 15 years past his prime. On the plus side, the DVD serves up Lee Garmes's pleasantly pastel Deluxe Color with commendable crispness. --Richard T. Jameson
Average review score:

Drivel
Yes, the title "D-Day the Sixth of June" is irritatingly misleading. This movie spends most of its time chronicling the tawdry tale of a married U.S. military officer who has an affair with a British USO-type woman who is engaged to be married to a courageous British officer. The battle scenes are sporadic, and the story creaks along slowly. The handsome Robert Taylor and the beautiful Dana Wynter are basically wasted because their roles are so unsympathetic. The characters that they portray have few qualms about cheating on their loved ones.

The movie also is not helped by a repetitious, sappy musical score that includes the sentimental song "You'll Never Know (How Much I Love You)" which accompanies the illicit lovers as they unapologetically indulge in their affair.

"D-Day the Sixth of June" is strictly for diehard fans of Taylor or Wynter. And perhaps not even those fans will be able to swallow this drivel.

Don't waste your time
Michael Bay must have studied this film before he made his own execrable "Pearl Harbor." In both cases, the filmmakers cynically titled their product after a famous WWII battle although they were really more interested in developing a dull, cliched love triangle than honestly confronting and exploring the meaning, experience, and drama of a significant historical event. At least, Bay relieved the tedium with some action. "D-Day" director Henry Koster doesn't address the actual invasion until the final ten minutes or so of this overlong film, and by then it is far too little far too late. Robert Taylor, Dana Wynter, and Richard Todd deliver their performances with all the animation of store-front mannequins. Taylor is far too old for this role, but Wynter, at least, is very nice to look at.

Is This a War Movie or A Love Story??!
Disapointing. I was looking forward to a good action movie, but most of the movie is a love story, and the movie only gets to D-Day at the very end. The title is misleading.

Very near the worst movie I've seen
The only movies that come to being as bad as this movie have all been on Mystery Science Theater. I'm sure this one would end up there if it weren't for all of the violence. The acting is downright horrible (never made it to the part with Sandra in it... I was about to throw up after 30 minutes and couldn't take any more). The cinematography is even worse... some of the worst angles, light/dark problems, etc. I've ever seen. I'm convinced games like Doom took their idea from this movie... there are shots where you are following guns around and watching them shoot people.

Another reviewer mentioned that High Schoolers could make better movies... I agree and I'm not so sure a middle schooler couldn't.

I found this one in the bargain bin at Walmart... it doesn't belong in the bargain bin, it belongs in the trash bin.

what a bummer
I HAVE SEEN WORSE, 1950S SCREEMING SKULL, THE BRAIN THAT WOULDNT DIE.
