This movie will be amazing!!
This movie looks simply amazing! Incredible and breathtaking! I can't wait to see it. Roland Emmerich is a guenis when it comes to visual effects. In fact: The producers delayed the movie for a full year, so that more and better visual effects could be done for the movie.

I highly recommend that people go and see the trailer at apple.com.

Trust me; You won't be disappointed.

Foyle's War - Eagle Day
Released in DVD by Acorn Media Publishi (11 March, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Jeremy Silberston, Giles Foster, David Thacker, and Simon Langton
The first suite of episodes in the Foyle's War series comes to a thrilling conclusion with "Eagle Day," a tense and historically fascinating story in which Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen) goes toe-to-toe with guardians of England's Official Secrets Act. For a very personal reason, too: Foyle's R.A.F. pilot son, Andrew (Julian Ovenden), first seen in episode 1 and an off-screen emotional presence for the detective in subsequent programs, is falsely accused of stealing documents pertinent to Britain's fledgling, 1940 experiments with radar. An outraged Foyle knows the charge is connected to a cover-up involving a murdered truck driver, a suicidal air force technician, and--of all things--a possible art theft. Series creator Anthony Horowitz's script, as usual, reflects tremendous research: details about the radar program, the Secrets Act, and why ice cream trucks disappeared from England's roads are not to be missed. --Tom Keogh

Terrific Conclusion to a terrific series
This is an excellent episode in a wonderful series. The period is fascinating and sets up all sorts of unusual and thought provoking issues about carrying on in a time of crisis. Outstanding writing directing and acting all around. Michael Kitchen is completely believable as the hard working police detective who is confronted with all sorts of crimes in a time when everyone is on edge. The whole series is a treat.

Groundhog Day (Special Edition) / Stripes
Released in DVD by Columbia Tristar Hom (01 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Ivan Reitman
Starring: Bill Murray and John Candy
Groundhog Day
Bill Murray does warmth in his most consistently effective post-Stripes comedy, a romantic fantasy about a wacky weatherman forced to relive one strange day over and over again, until he gets it right. Snowed in during a road-trip expedition to watch the famous groundhog encounter his shadow, Murray falls into a time warp that is never explained but pays off so richly that it doesn't need to be. The elaborate loop-the-loop plot structure cooked up by screenwriter Danny Rubin is crystal-clear every step of the way, but it's Murray's world-class reactive timing that makes the jokes explode, and we end up looking forward to each new variation. He squeezes all the available juice out of every scene. Without forcing the issue, he makes us understand why this fly-away personality responds so intensely to the radiant sanity of the TV producer played by Andie MacDowell. The blissfully clueless Chris Elliott (Cabin Boy) is Murray's nudnik cameraman. --David Chute

Stripes
Bill Murray was heading toward a career peak on the back of comedies such as this one from 1981, the second film in his ongoing collaboration with director Ivan Reitman (the two went on to make Ghostbusters). Murray plays a chronic loser who joins the army and fails to find a fan for his ironic sensibilities in his by-the-book sergeant (Warren Oates). When push comes to shove, however, the smirking hero takes charge of his ragtag unit and turns them into fighting machines, albeit to the rhythm of hit songs by Manfred Mann and Sly Stone. The film is occasionally funny, but it mostly plays like any one of a dozen underachieving comedies featuring players from Saturday Night Live and SCTV. --Tom Keogh

Two of the funniest US films from the 80¿s or early 90s.
Two of the funniest US films from the 80's or early 90s.

STRIPES is a spirited, almost anarchic comedic romp through army life. Of course, the plot development half way through becomes improbable, but it links well with the original premise.

GROUNDHOG DAY is a sublime piece. The subtle changes in plot to work in the circular time reference are precisely done. Murray displays a delicate performance, with the right amount of comedic timing, with the necessary seriousness to keep the plot ticking along.

Murray has undertaken a number of films, but these two, particularly presented in a package, reveal Bill Murray at his best.

Superlative recording
This DVD recording of the Alpine Symphony by Strauss is amazing. Having had his release on the Karajan Gold edition for a while, I thought it would be good to pick up yet another Karajan interpretation.

The Berlin Philharmonic play beautifully especially at the section following the storm. Karajan appears to be completely overcome by the passionate BPO strings. I would dare say Karajan gave this music his all to prove how valuable this piece is in the repetoir.

The storm sequence is wonderfully played. I wish the cameraman could have captured a shot of the wind machine...as i have never seen one before. Other than that though there are some fabulous shots of Karajan's conducting, strings, brass, woodwinds, ect. The only neglected section is the percussion section. The picture appears clear, and the sonics are great in my opinion.

The music itself really packs a wollop and deserves to be played on a quality surround sound system. This is my introduction to the Karajan Legacy Series and i am very impressed with this recording of the Alpine Symphony.

Anthony Michael Hall in chains...
I loved this movie! I won't give any spoilers, I'll only give you what would be described on the back of the DVD. Eve (played by Sheryl Lee Diamond) gets a call in the middle of the night telling her that her husband Ted (played by Anthony Michael Hall) was in a car accident. While at the hospital she learns that her husband has been cheating on her, and then finds out that it wasn't with just one woman either.. Well when most women would either cry, or slip into denial, Eve decides to "protect" their marriage. How do you ask? By chaining him to the floor of their hidden "speakeasy" in the basement. With nice flashbacks showing their marriage months before, and funny dialogue between the core characters, this film is just priceless. What woman wouldn't want to do what Eve does? This film has cute twists, and an ending that will crack you up! Anthony Michael Hall delivers a great performance (as always) This movie is very cute and unique. AMH in chains..that is reason enough to see this movie! From: bethy_the_amh_fan
