Once Bitten
Released in DVD by M G M, Inc (26 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Howard Storm
Starring: Lauren Hutton and Jim Carrey
This is the movie that was supposed to make Jim Carrey a star--in 1985, no less. Perhaps it's no wonder that it took him until the 1990s (and In Living Color): this bloodless vampire comedy almost sank his movie career before it began. Carrey plays an innocent L.A. teen, the unlikely object of the affections of slinky Lauren Hutton, a long-lived vampire who needs the blood of a virgin to stay young. So, she woos the unsuspecting, naive young Valley guy. But most of the jokes fall flat, and only when Carrey cuts loose briefly and lets his wild side show do we get a glimpse of the future Ace Ventura. --Marshall Fine

Waste of money in general
This movie was a waste of stage equitment, lights, camras and even the word ACTION! If you like Carrey, or anyone on the cover, don't see this, you barf you intestents out. This movie is full of sick, raunchy(if that's how you spell it) so-called-comedy. Some people who like gross humor and like to see a good actor waste his given talent then see it! If you like Carrey, then see Liar Liar, or even The Truman Show (wich wasn't really that great, either)

A fun movie that doesn't take itself seriously. Like Buffy
Once Bitten is a lighthearted vampire comedy that is fun to watch over and over again. Jim Carrey and Lauren Hutton do a great job here as the leads and the late Cleavon little will crack you up as a slightly effeminate vamp. The comedy is light and funny and not too over the top.The best scene is the dance seqence at the party (A precursor to Carrey's later physhical work). It Look for Megan Muhlally (Will & Grace) in a brief Role as a vampire. If you're abig fan of 80's cheese like Iam this film is worth adding to your collection.

Hey, it's the white guy from "In Living Color"!!
Brief plot synopsis: A female vampire needs the blood of a virgin to stay young; she finds Mark Kendall(Jim Carrey); hijinx ensue.

I first saw this when it came on tv; at the time Jim Carrey was either a nobody or "that white guy from "In Living Color" (btw why ...isn't that on dvd yet?). Shortly after I saw this JC started getting big with movies such as "The Mask" and "Ace Ventura". With those films in mind "Once Bitten" is somewhat of a novelty. Even though it is billed as a comedy, JC's character is a far cry from the rubberfaced madman we see in the aforementioned comedies. This is the Jim Carrey we saw in "The Truman show" the man who can play a character that we just like; someone accessible enough that we could know the guy or someone like him. JC's acting is brilliant here, I do enjoy JC's other work but it's refreshing to see him in a role like this. If you're a JC diehard it's a must buy, If you're not a diehard, there's still a good chance it will be a welcome addition to your movie collection. ...

D2: The Mighty Ducks
Released in DVD by Buena Vista Home Vid (03 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Sam Weisman
Starring: Emilio Estevez and Kathryn Erbe
This follow-up to the surprise Disney hit about a hockey team of misfits brings Emilio Estevez back to the role of the kids' yuppie coach. This time, Estevez assimilates his Ducks into the higher-stakes Team USA in the Junior Goodwill Games, an opportunity that could bring fame and money. Entirely perfunctory, this sequel is basically an excuse to revisit the eccentricities of some of the younger characters, extend some of their conflicts into adolescence, and showcase their allegedly entertaining but ethically dubious abilities on the ice. Estevez is okay, but even he had enough after this movie. --Tom Keogh

Awe-Inspiring!
Released in 1994, D2 THE MIGHTY DUCKS is the first sequel to THE MIGHTY DUCKS. Continuing the story of the young Ice Hockey team and their coach Gordan Bombay (Emilio Estevez), we now have the team representing the USA at the Junior Goodwill Games as Team USA. Their main rivals this time round are the Iceland team. Along with the fun and mayhem that the Ducks cause during their time in Beverly Hills where the games are played, we have Gordon Bombay caught up in the success that he is currently having. You see, Team USA have a corporate sponsor who wants coach Bombay to do a lot of publicity, thus affecting his time with the Ducks. However by the end of the movie he learns that he needs to standby the Ducks in order for them to win and be Champions at the games.

Initially we are reintroduced to some of the teenagers from the first movie. It is here that we discover who from the first film is not returning. Lucky for us we meet some new members of the team, and they are a lot more interesting than the ones who are missing. Of the newcomers, one is a goalie who can save virtually every shot made at her; another is extremely big and strong (but gets a little too carried away sometimes); another is a cowboy who uses a rope to round up players; one is a fantastic skater; and one is extremely fast, only problem is once he starts he has a real problem with stopping. All these new players greatly add to the fun of D2 THE MIGHTY DUCKS.

As with many sports movies there is a lot of inspiration and this comes from the script, the dedicated acting and directing, and from the music which though repetitive is catchy and very awe-inspiring.

All three of the Mighty Ducks movies are awe-inspiring and it just depends on your personal preference as to which one is the best. For me personally, my favorite is D3 THE MIGHTY DUCKS, but D2 THE MIGHTY DUCKS is a close second. As well as seeing Emilio Estevez, watch out for Joshua Jackson (Pre-Dawson's Creek) as the captain of the Mighty Ducks.

There are no special features on this DVD, but the movie is in widescreen. However, the movie itself makes it worth buying so let's be thankful for small favors.

GREAT MOVIE!
I love this movie! For all us girls there are hot guys in it. Well anyway, if you like hockey buy this movie and you won't be dissapinted!

Great movie!
I own all the the mighty ducks movies, and have loved them since i was a kid! they are all great.

Quatermass 2
Released in DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment (22 May, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Val Guest
Starring: Brian Donlevy and John Longden
Considered by many critics to be the finest in the series, Hammer's second Quatermass feature (adapted from the television serial by Nigel Kneale) is a subversive alien invasion story. Professor Quatermass (Brian Donlevy) stumbles onto a top-secret government base near a rural location that has been inundated by a steady stream of meteors. His investigations, which are met with distrust by suspicious townspeople and outright hostility by the base guards, uncover a conspiracy originating in the highest reaches of government. With few he can trust and fewer he can convince of his suspicions, Quatermass decides to meet the menace head-on. Director Val Guest, who cowrote the screenplay with Kneale, loads his film with fascinating detail (the whiz of the falling meteors--actually space pods--recalls the buzz bombs of the London blitz, and the antipathy of the high-strung locals adds a curious element of class conflict), but really brings the picture to life with its stark black-and-white look and overpowering mood of paranoia. The base, the very picture of industrial modernity in the midst of rural nothingness, is given a creepy emptiness as Quatermass wanders through, dwarfed in the giant maze of pipes and towers centered by enormous spherical containers and huge domes. You'll likely never forget the image of a government investigator covered in a smoking black substance, stumbling down the steps of the stark white container. --Sean Axmaker

As dull as it gets
I love old movies--gothic, sci. fi.--you name it. But I was very disappointed in this one. I could just go on and on, but suffice it to say that except for the crisp b&w filmography this movie has no (zero) redeeming qualities about it whatsoever. It's not even "funny bad." I wish I could give zero stars, but one is as low as it is allowed to go. How sad.

Overrated
I got this video after reading the various viewer responses and found it tedious. Britain has provided us with some terrific Sci-fi movies despite low budgets, but this one has all the tension of an uncooked sausage and generally looks pretty silly - the costumes are dated, the characters cliched, and the "monster" is too silly for words. I place this film right down there with the worst of American 50's black lagoons!

DARKEST 5O's SCIENCE-FICTION SUSPENSE THRILLER
Thanks to an excellent literate script by master Nigel Kneale and intensive, atmospheric direction by the underrated Val Guest (who both scored great marks with "Abominable Snowman"), this ranks as one of the best and most disturbing Science-Fiction Thrillers. I don't need to reiterate the intriguing story, but it builds gripping suspense from the word 'Go' and finally escalates into a crucial state-of-alarm that climaxes in a thrilling and terrifying showdown at the secret alien refinary plant in the remote British country. Pretty violent and grim for its time, and it still retains its entertaining and thought-provoking qualities. The confrontation between the workers and the alien-controlled government & military "zombies" has certain Marxist underlying themes of the 'workers revolt againest the oppressive, dictatorial rulers' - who, in shattering fact, are aliens who are truly alien - and thoroughly malevolent. Some kaffka allegories of corrupt government and fascism are conveyed here in the bleakest of ways. Kneale's intelligent, riveting screenplay also served as the basis for the James Bond plots and wild devices that surfaced a few years later in the rebelliously turbulent 6O's - which this insightfully compelling Science-Fiction Classic seems to sinisterly forecast. Not your typical or campy monster movie by any long shots. Also, quite cynical for its time, as Quatermass is forced to become the angst-ridden, alienated hero (anti-hero) in his accidental uncovering of conspiracy (his plans for a proposed moon project is swiped by them) and cover-ups: Very Hitchcockian. Also sounds a lot like X-FILES, doesn't it? I believe this was XF's producers favorite childhood science-fiction film; the dark, ominous influence and inspiration is undoubtably present. Not a kid's flick by any means. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hauntingly memorable and intensely scary classic. Probably the most starkly realistic vision of what a true alien invasion might be like. Genuine nightmares to take to bed - and wonder.

A Murder of Crows
Released in DVD by Studio Home Entertainment (13 July, 1999)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Rowdy Herrington
Starring: Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Berenger
Writer-director Rowdy Herrington takes innocence, guilt, ambition, and morality, and twists them into a suspenseful, seductive spiral that can't help but suck you in. When defense attorney Russell Lawson (Cuba Gooding Jr.) realizes his client (Eric Stoltz) is guilty, he turns on him mid-trial--a move that costs him both the case and his career. Disbarred and disheartened, he retreats to Key West, where he meets a peculiar retired teacher named Christopher Marlowe and the film's roller coaster ride begins. In a quick reversal of fortune, Lawson makes an ethical compromise and becomes wildly successful--and then just as suddenly becomes a fugitive from the law, trying to track down a murderer before being tracked down himself. Gooding's constant voice-overs tend to distract from the story rather than add to it; however, his down-home earnestness makes him a good foil for a cranky cop (Tom Berenger) who appears to be more interested in making an arrest than in finding the truth. But then nothing here is what it first appears to be, and although Herrington leaves just enough clues for the astute viewer to pick up on the film's central metaphor, the conclusion still manages to surprise. With such a talented cast and tight writing, it's hard to fathom why A Murder of Crows didn't do better in theaters. At least on video the film, like Lawson, is given a second chance. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

Entertaining--just don't think too hard about the details!
I enjoyed this film. But, I must confess that there were some major holes in the plot. The best way to enjoy this film (in my opinion) is to not think too hard, and not expect too much. Then you'll enjoy it just fine. There's plenty to enjoy.

I've always liked Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Snow Dogs") and he is very affable in this film. You can't help but root for his character, even after he does something really, really dumb. The motto "Pride cometh before a fall" certainly applies in this movie, and Gooding's character suffers dearly for it. He should have realized this simple wisdom--don't try to take shortcuts with certain things. They'll only come back to haunt you later. And they do for him.

Even though the credits list Tom Berenger as one of the main stars, he's actually got more of a supporting role. But he does just fine in his part as a grouchy policeman who is on the tail of Gooding Jr. for a crime he didn't commit. Eric Stoltz does well as a sleazy rich guy--those clean cut good looks conceal a really creepy character.

I found this to be an all-around entertaining movie, but it does have plot holes, so don't expect too much. Cuba Gooding Jr. fans will particularly like this movie, since it showcases his talents quite well.

New Orleans Noir
Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays Russell Lawson, a black defense attorney in present day New Orleans, Louisiana. The film opens on Lawson, who is having an epiphany regarding his perception of his job and the people he defends. The camera picks up a red-faced devil walking deliberately through the Mardi Gras-packed streets and the metro party that is in full swing. The devil pays a visit to Lawson, pulling out a pistol and preparing to kill him when he hears Lawson tell the judge that he wants to pull out of the current case he's trying. Thurman Parks III, Lawson's client, only that afternoon admitted that he killed the lap dancer he's accused of murdering. The next day, Lawson destroys his legal career, throws away his future, and crucifies his client on the witness stand. In only a short time, Lawson is a fishing charter captain in Florida. He meets an old man who gives him a novel about the murders of five attorneys who used their skills to help killers go free. Later that day, the old man turns up dead. Having what he is certain is a bestselling novel, Lawson rewrites the book, claims it is his own, and becomes an overnight sensation and millionaire. Then he's arrested because the murders in the novel were all based on the murders of prominent attorneys. Lawson becomes part of a cunning cat-and-mouse chase that keeps the viewer glued to his or her seat.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. has been in dozens of movies and has been an outstanding actor. Writer/Director Rowdy Herrington has also written STRIKING DISTANCE and ROAD HOUSE, both action flicks known for cunning little plotting loops. Although only in the movie for a short time and never completely living up to his past potential, Tom Berenger plays the NOPD homicide cop that chases Lawson down. Eric Stoltz plays the positively smarmy lap dancer murderer.

A MURDER OF CROWS stands out as a suspenseful thriller. Enough twists and turns exist within the movie to keep even the most jaded thriller fan on the edge of his or her seat. Conventional double-crosses only set the viewer up for plot twists and turns that throw monkeywrenches in even the astute thriller fan's pre-conceptions of how the movie is going to turn out. Although the acting performances are good, the thing that really drives the movie is the plot. The action is tight and the pacing moves along quickly. The literary and philosophy clues will catch the eye of a student of both or either, and plays fairly with the viewer on those accounts.

One aspect of the film and the plot that rankles somewhat is the fact that the ultimate villain is completely hidden from view. Also, Lawson's ability to move around in plain daylight while a massive manhunt was underway for him takes an effort to suspend the disbelief. How Lawson and Dubose linked up would have been nice to see because that came out of left field at one point. The movie was more about the plot twists and turns than about the way Lawson survived financially, but those aspects would have tightened up the viewing experience a little.

A MURDER OF CROWS is great movie for the thriller/suspense fan who likes a little whodunit? in his or her viewing experience. People who liked TWILIGHT, SPY GAME, THE GINGERBREAD MAN, OCEAN'S ELEVEN, or SHATTERED will enjoy this movie as well.

The BEST movie ever made
Although my family is of Cuban origin I was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in England. Many people will know this small town as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, the greatest playwright in the world, ever. I also believed this, until I saw this movie, sorry Shakespeare, your time is up, give up your throne. The writer of this movie has got it 'goin' on!'. This movie has more twists than a 'Curly Wurly'(Which FYI is a particularly twisty English chocolate bar), has some of the best acting I have ever seen on screen and the directing is flawless. This movie never came to the cinemas in England and I am currently petitioning the local multiplex to show the movie, even just for one showing, so I and countless others can marvel in its beauty.

Son-In-Law
Released in DVD by Hollywood Pictures (21 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Steve Rash
Starring: Pauly Shore and Carla Gugino
Even with Pauly Shore as the "star," this 1993 comedy is a bit better than you might think. Shore plays an insouciant college student asked by a friend (Carla Gugino) to pretend to be her fiancé over Thanksgiving break, thus discouraging a jerk back in her hometown from proposing. Shore's character agrees but is given a hard time by the girl's salt-of-the-earth family of farmers. The hero and Gugino's character actually have a crush on each other, and now that they have an opportunity to explore romance, their relationship is threatened by poor Pauly's tests of rural manhood. Shore aside, the strong cast--including Gugino and Lane Smith--lend this thing some credibility; and the script doesn't take any shortcuts in moving the characters beyond their assumptions about one another. --Tom Keogh

Son in Law
All I can say about this movie is if you have a daughter going off to school then this is a must see movie ! And God help us all if "Crawl" is the one in charge. Full of laughs and suprizes. A must see movie if you are in the mood for laughs

Excellent comedy that will be a modern cult classic.
Pauly Shore's best role since " In The Army Now" has him as a city boy from L.A. in love with a Farmer's daughter and joins her for Thanksgiven and wants to be part of the family but he sometimes screws things up.

Very entertaining, funny and sometimes heartwarmining with fine performances, a must see movie.

The DVD looks good with picture and sounds great with it's sound.

One of the best comedies I've ever seen
I'm not saying that Pauly Shore is a great actor, but Son in Law is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Shore plays a Shore-like resident assistant named Crawl at the California university chosen for matriculation by Rebecca of some farm (probably not Sunnybrook) in South Dakota. Her jock boyfriend Travis, who apparently spends all of his free time trying to look more and more like Tom Cruise, doesn't want her to go, afraid she will change out there on her own. Becca, as Crawl calls her, has a hard time adjusting to college life and is ready to quit and come home when Crawl convinces her to stay and try a little harder to fit in with the crowd. Soon, shy little Rebecca has been shorn of her long hair, clothed in "weasel ware," and tattooed, allowing her to mingle easily on the beach and at mud wrestling bars. When she learns that Crawl is going to be alone during Thanksgiving, she invites him home with her. Her parents and Travis are shocked when they see Becca's new undeniably hot look, but they are even more shocked when a lunatic in the form of Crawl shows up with her. He takes to country life in his uniquely Shore-ian way, horrifying just about everyone in the state of South Dakota. This is before Crawl announces that he and Becca are getting married, a lie engineered on the spot to forestall Travis' own marriage proposal to the new and improved Becca. Dad decides to show Crawl what farming is like, trying to drive him away with the nastiest farm chores known to man, at which point much hilarity ensues. In time, Crawl begins to win over Becca's family and even becomes a star attraction on the local square dance circuit, inspired by such songs as the theme to Green Acres and John Denver's Thank God I'm a Country Boy. Travis has his own plans for getting Becca back, though; feathers fly, and not just those from the turkey that gets loose in the house.

Pauly Shore is in full Pauly Shore mode in this movie, but it works tremendously well here. The acting is great all the way around, Carla Gugino is adorable, Shore is hilarious, and there's not a dull moment to be found from beginning to end. I've watched this movie several times, with no noticeable decrease in the enjoyment factor from one viewing to the next. My parents, who haven't been to a movie since I was a kid dragging them along with me, actually borrowed this movie from me; some of their friends had been trying to find this hilarious movie they had seen but could not remember the name of for some time, and I recognized the plot as soon as they got around to asking me about it. It's a pretty unforgettable movie that appeals to a wide audience. If you have avoided Son in Law like the plague just because Pauly Shore stars in it, I urge you to reconsider and give this movie a chance. This is a very funny film the whole family can enjoy.

Bryan Adams - Live at Slane Castle
Released in DVD by Uni/A&M (11 December, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Bryan Adams
If you thought Bryan Adams was just another pop star, this impressive performance will prove a revelation. Before an appreciative crowd of 56,000 fans in the natural amphitheater near Slane Castle in Ireland, Adams and his bandmates (drummer Mickey Curry and guitarist Keith Scott) provide a hard-driving set of Adams's best-known songs, working wonders with their muscular three-piece arrangements. While providing a solid bass foundation, Adams is an amiable host in top form, moving quickly and confidently from rockers like "It's Only Love" to the chart-topping ballad "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," and the crowd proves its devotion with a massive sing-along. Former Spice Girl Mel C. appears--along with a lucky girl from the audience--for a lively rendition of "When You're Gone," and the entire concert is faithfully reproduced in crystal-clear 5.1-channel audio. It's a rockin' good show, and the backstage footage and interviews are a welcome bonus. --Jeff Shannon
Average review score:

He's best with a full band, playing "that old six-string"!!
Set at the historic Slane Castle outside Ireland's Dublin, Bryan Adams played on August 26th 2000 for 65.000 fans.

It's the first live-concert on DVD for the now 43 year old Canadian rocker, and was filmed during his 1998-2002 trio-era, with himself on bass instead of the usual Stratocaster six-string and Tommy Mandel on keyboards and Dave Taylor on bass, that left Adams with a limited number of songs to play. With only Mickey Curry on drums and Keith Scott on guitar they played many of the early nineties heavy-rockers and power ballads half-semi eletric and many weren't even performed, though Adams played others on acostic guitar.

So what about the DVD itself? Beside the concert fine extras are a nice interview with Adams and the two bandmembers, a prior-to the concert preview and nice picture gallery thoughout Adams' career...

The crowd is pretty upbeat and show no matter the size, and year we have - Adams is still popular among young aswell as older people all over the globe. A nice concert, but could've been much - and I mean much more in every musical aspect; again attributed by the trio-only performance; - although Davy Spillane on Irish flute joins Adams for two songs, Chicane on "Don't Give Up" and "Cloud Number Nine" and Mel C on "When You're Gone" it still makes an older fan like myself feel somewhat bored or should I be totally frank and say; quite empty and unfulfilled...

If you've seen Adams on one of his worldwide tours throughout 1980 to 1998, you will know, like the fans who 'just' enjoy Adams' record on the stereo, that you get a real rock concert with Adams on guitar, keyboards and a full band.. Those sure were fine days.

But, to end this review with good news; I can inform to those who don't know it yet - that Adams is back on guitar touring with a full band, consisiting of Gary Breit on keyboards and also new bass-player; Norm Fisher - who replaces Tom Mandel and Dave Taylor, who retired from the band back in 1998 maybe because they were (at that time) the only band-members with children.

So, go out there and buy a ticket to the world's greatest performer next time he's in your neighbourhood!! It's simply great, rocking and not like anything else you've ever seen!
Adams even beats legendary live-performing bands/artists like the great Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Tina Turner and Def Leppard.

This is not a good concert
I've seen alot of concerts of my favorite musical artists. From U2(Zoo TV, Elevation Live from Boston) to Randy Travis, and I thought the Bryan Adams concert from Ireland would exceed my expectations like the others did. Man was I wrong. The music is good, or at least most of it. The problem with this DVD is the way it's filmed. The stage is a ball of white light, Bryan is wearing a WHITE shirt, playing the BASS guitar and the video director shows the crowd more than the band. Of course this may be because there are only 3 band members. Don't waste your money on this DVD, it [STINKS]!!

Should've Been Earlier!
Like a Huge BAD fan that I am, I've been expecting some video material from bryan adams since I first saw him live, in 1997.
I can't say i was disappointed with this dvd release, but it could've been much better, especially concerning the venue, the 3 piece band, and the guys outfit, I mean, they seem like westlife or something...
Bryan Adams was born to rock, and eventhough his age may change his mind, I don't think that the fans like to see him all dressed in white...
The picture quality is not so good either, sometimes it gets a little unfocused, although I enjoy the shots from the camera inside the crowd bouncing around.
Bryan adams is due to release a new album next year, with a new key and guitar players and a world tour is already being scheduled, so please bryan, let's rock like in the old days! Pick up a stadium next time, or release the wembley gig,in 1996!
In My opinion the highlights of this dvd are: summer of 69, when you're gone, heaven, everything i do, don't give up and a stunning cloud nÂș9.
The 3 bonus tracks aren't included in the set list, cause there were some problems, like bryan forgetting the lyrics and such.
A must have for any true rock lover!

Horror Express/Killer Inside M
Released in DVD by Simitar Video (14 December, 1998)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Burt Kennedy
Starring: Stacy Keach and Susan Tyrrell
Released in 1972 under the international title Panic on the Trans-Siberian Express, this effective horror thriller is now regarded as one of the better European horror films of the 1970s, aided immeasurably by the casting of horror icons Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Set at the turn of the 20th century, the story begins in China when the arrogant British Professor Saxton (played by Lee) boards the Trans-Siberian Express with a mysterious crate containing a body that he claims is the missing link in human evolution. What he doesn't know is that his ancient discovery is still alive--a monster with glowing red eyes that stare into the eyes of its victims, boiling their brains and absorbing their intelligence, turning them into zombies possessed by the creature's evolving personality! Pretty soon even Telly Savalas (as a power-mad Cossack) is raving among the train full of zombies, and it's up to Lee and rival anthropologist Cushing to destroy them... or die! There's a surplus of thrills and chills in this sharp, fast-paced Spanish-British production, made at a time when suspense and clever writing were still valued over graphic gore and special effects. --Jeff Shannon
Average review score:

Even rocket scientists couldn't calculate how bad it is.
On par with the dismal rejects "Devil's Rain" and "Wicker Man," this movie is arguably the [worst] movie in the history of the universe now or ever. Acting? Except for Lee and Cushing, there was none. Sound quality? Fair to poor. Video quality? Fair to poor. Mood and atmosphere? Well, I guess in some countries they still hadn't figured out that synthesizer disco music really isn't congruent with serious horror. Even the opening credits are bad with the treat of getting to stare at the train's headlight whilst suffering, you guessed it, more canned synthesizer music. Truly an AWFUL movie. Rocket scientists couldn't calculate how truly AWFUL this movie is....What on earth were these people THINKING!

Fun Hammer horror casts Lee & Cushing as reluctant allies.
Possibly among Hammer's very best productions, HORROR EXPRESS is notable for casting Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing as (reluctant) allies for once, & also for "co-starring" Telly Savalas pre-KOJAK; who previously worked with director Eugenio Martin on the film PANCHO VILLA. Scripted by Arnaud D'Usseau & Julian Halevy from a story by Gene Martin, the film is also known as PANIC ON THE TRANS-SIBERIAN EXPRESS.

Alexander Saxton (Lee) is a scientist who leads an expedition into the mountains where he discovers the frozen body of a huge ape-like man (No, it's not Tor Johnson). The valuable fi(e)nd is shipped aboard a train bound for Europe, where Saxton plans to conduct research that could establish the "missing link" between humans and primates. But to Saxton's annoyance his rival Dr. Wells (Cushing) and his assistant are also passengers on the train.
Matters soon get hairy (quite literally) when a potential thief picks the lock on the crate; resulting in the ape-man being let loose aboard the train- but not before hypnotizing the culprit & sucking all information & memories from his brain, leaving him with hemhorraging eyeballs that resemble bloodied boiled eggs and a brain smoother & whiter than Telly Savalas's head.

Another passenger on the train is a wacko hippie priest who believes this is the work of the devil and that the contents of the crate is "unholy", as all uninformed nincompoops do when confronted with things they don't understand or that don't conform to their personal belief system. The preacher presents a rock solid argument in his favor when he remarks "There is the stink of hell on this train. Even the dog knows it". (NB: There IS in fact a dog on board too, who is obviously smarter than the Hellfire Hippie.)

Also amusing is the following exchange between Cushing & Lee when the creature escapes:
Cushing: "Are you telling me that an ape that lived two million years ago got out of that crate, killed the baggage man and put him in there; then loaded everything up neat and tidy, and got away?"
Lee: "YES! I AM!".
In case you're wondering, I haven't forgotten about Telly Savalas. In spite of his co-star billing he doesn't appear in his role as Captain Kazak until the last third of the movie; unless as I also mentioned, the film makers used his dome for "brain" close-ups.
DVD extras include trailers and a bio and filmography for Lee, but none for Cushing, which is odd. This DVD obviously offers nothing special in terms of special features but it's loads of fun and a good bargain for collectors.

All Aboard!!
HORROR EXPRESS is a wild movie! Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing play rival scientists (Saxon and Wells) who must band together to battle the force that is loose on the trans-siberian express. People are being killed by having their brains emptied of all memories, their eyes turning white. Has the "fossil" that Saxon has brought aboard sprung to life? Can it be stopped before killing everyone? This is no ordinary hunk of cheese! Lee and Cushing are great together (as usual). Telly Savalas is over-the-top but quite enjoyable as the head cossak. Check out the crazy monk who decides to give up on God and serve "satan" (the creature) instead! Talk about a fast switch of sides! This movie is engaging and fun to watch. Sort of a cross between MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, THE CRATE (found on CREEPSHOW by Stephen King), and a really good X-FILES episode. Hop on the train and enjoy...

Good film.....
I've always been a Peter Cushing fan and a huge fan of this film. I first saw this movie on a late night horror show presenter by the name of Sammy Terry (Indiana based I think...very young at the time). I loved it from the start.....biased because of Cushing/Zombi/Nazi I'm sure. I've read some of the reviews about the screen format. From what I've read it seems as if the movie is actually Open Matte widescreen as opposed to Anamporphic like the DVD suggest. You'll see examples of this with H.P. Lovecrafts Bride Of Re-animator.....the bonus of that film was that you could still watch it full screen as an option. I've just ordered this movie and if I find my assumption incorrect I will edit my review. Later my horror fan brothers!

Edit begins:
Yep as I suspected it is Open Matte.....much like the Evil Dead widescreen. Several B-movies are shot full screen and when they are shown in the theater the projectors actually have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen to make it fit the widescreen. So in most cases it is actually being show like it was originally was at the time of theatrical release.

P.S. Please don't give this movie one star just because you are unhappy with the DVD release. Rate the film itself...and then as a footnote to your review put any good/bad info about the quality of the release. Take a look, this classic film is getting an average of 3 1/2 stars. I even read one review where the reviewer said he would watch the DVD over the VHS, however according to his rating you wouldn't think he'd ever watch it again.

Excellent zombie flick...
This isn't exactly your average buckets-o-gore, slow-moving (the zombies, not the movie) zombie film, but it's close enough and almost just as good. I say almost, because quite frankly, there could have been a little more gore...it wouldn't have hurt. The plot is the kicker. During World War II, the [Germans] experimented with making the perfect soldiers. They began their research from ancient stories of unstoppable warriors whose power comes from the ground...these soldiers are neither alive or dead, but they are rotting and can live under water all the live-long day, so I'm leaning more towards dead.
A group of tourists cruising the islands run aground a deserted island after going into what might be the Bermuda Triangle or a similar anomally and hitting the [German's] old sunken ship. They find an old hotel, inhabitted only by Peter Cushing, playing a not-quite-ex-[German]commander. The hijinks ensue as the zombies begin attacking the tourists. This is campy 70's horror at its best. Check it out.

A 3 Hour Tour...
John Carradine is a sour, crusty old sea captain on a pleasure boat for hire. He takes a group of tourists (among them, the lovely Brooke Adams) out for a cruise. They encounter a strange solar phenomenon and get lost. That night, the boat almost runs into a ghost ship. They have no idea that the derelict ship's crew of nazi zombies has risen from their watery grave! Severe engine trouble forces our merry band to flee to a nearby island. No Gilligan here! Peter Cushing is excellent as an old nazi-in-hiding who is the only one who knows what's actually going on. This is a genuinely creepy movie. There's no nudity, no gore, and very little profanity; and I still highly recommend it! ADDED BONUS: There's an extremely annoying guy in this movie! I found myself hoping for his quick demise. See if you can pick him out. Hint: He wears glasses and whines whenever he opens his mouth! Great flick! Prepare for a scare...
