Good Advice
Released in DVD by Artisan (Fox Video) (22 October, 2002)
Fans of Denise Richards will delight in her skin-tight and belly-revealing outfits in Good Advice; fans of Charlie Sheen will enjoy his patented sleazeball-with-a-heart-of-gold performance. Richards is the author of a much-ignored advice column who's trying to drag her hotshot stockbroker boyfriend (Sheen) to the altar. When a phony tip ruins Sheen's career, Richards leaves for Brazil with the owner of a diamond mine. When the publisher of the newspaper that runs the advice column calls, Sheen grabs at the chance for a paycheck and writes for Richards. Unsurprisingly, masquerading as a woman saves his shallow male soul and his witty but insightful comments turn the column into a big hit. All seems to be going well until Richards suddenly returns and finds herself famous. Angie Harmon plays the publisher with whom--unsurprisingly--sparks fly. Jon Lovitz, Rosanna Arquette, and Estelle Harris provide helpful support. --Bret Fetzer

Better than expected, a good DVD for the Price!I just saw this movie last night. I was flipping through the channels and decided to give this one a try. I thought it was going to be lame, but it wasn't! The comedic performances of Angie Harmon's secretary, full of inuendo and some pretty hysterical remarks really made it all worthwhile. John Lovitz and his gold-digger wife also contribute much with their love-hate dialouge. Denise Richards doesn't have a huge part, but does a good job in this comedy. Charlie Sheen, although not usually a favorite of mine, was pretty good in this one, thanks to Angie and her Sec. Enjoy!
Good, but...This was an interesting, sometimes narrow film. There were too many striking similarities to the movie "Wall Street" (Charlie Sheen was also in that) to be called anything different than a copy of it. While it was good, I kept wanting to picture Gordon Gekko as the head of the newspaper rather than the other guy. Overall good, but too much a copy of "Wall Street" to be recognized as different.
Good Romantic MovieI saw this movie on cable and watched it. It's a pretty good romance between a down-and-out Wall Street whiz and an editor of a newspaper. Charlie Sheen plays a financial whiz who loses his job due to a scandal and takes the place of his shallow and insensitive girlfriend who runs off to Brazil with another man. While writing the advice column, he falls for the studious editor played by Angie Harmon.
My sister thought the movie was shallow but to me I thought it was romantic as a man was dealing with hisself and the people who read his article.

OK in an eclectic kind of way.First of all, I'll rate it for you: "R". They use the "f" word a lot. There's also about 30 seconds of partial frontal nudity ... which gets a PG-13 rating now-a-days ... during a love scene (though, they're not it love). For some reason, Blockbuster has this listed as "Youth Restricted Product". I guess that's their new term for "R". I dunno. It could be that they have phobias regarding adult conversation.
The plot is OK. Each character has a weird nickname that distracts a little from what's going on. The writing is eclectic. The final scene seems to be written by another person altogether ... perhaps the screen writer was bi-polar ... but that just makes it fun, doesn't it?
Anyway, this is a story about a woman who is afraid to make a commitment to a real relationship because it'll make her feel. But guess what happens....
Good movieBeing a big Miranda Hobbes (Sex and the City) fan, I first rented this movie only because Cynthia Nixon is in it. I loved it so much that I had to buy it. It starts off a little zany, but once you get into it you don't want it to end. It is definitely worth checking out and it has a lot of good quotes in it.
RomanticI liked this movie; sweetly romantic with a bit of a twist: two artist friends (straight woman, gay man) are trying to be sophisticated and avoid any hint of having real feelings in any of their relationships. But whoops! They really do want feelings and one of them ends up with them, despite trying to deny it. Personally, I think there's a hint that both of them end up with them, but the story stops before that can be developed unfortunately. The biggest problem is that this dvd is the worst dvd I've ever rented: no menus and it's got a &*^%&^%$^&*%^&%!!! intro with ads for other movies that you can't skip. Fortunately my DVD player would let me fast forward over it, but if this weren't such a good movie, I wouldn't buy it.
