Selena Live - The Last Concert
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (02 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Is it real, or is it J-Lo? Both, as it turns out. There are 55 minutes of the actual Selena here, filmed live at Houston's Astrodome in 1995. The 23-year-old Tejano singer performs her light, catchy tunes all in Spanish, save for a '70s disco medley (which includes, poignantly, "I Will Survive"); polished and charismatic, if not extraordinarily talented, Selena was clearly on the way up before her death at 23 at the hands of an employee. That she was later portrayed onscreen by Jennifer Lopez, who has eclipsed Selena's stardom by far, no doubt partly explains the inclusion on the DVD of a 45-minute documentary (truthfully, more like a lengthy puff piece for Entertainment Tonight) about the Selena biopic. If you want to know how the filmmakers made those tough decisions about hair, clothes, and lip-syncing, you will not be disappointed. But the real thing's better. --Sam Graham

The Perfect Holiday Gift
If you are looking for the perfect holiday gift for a Jose Feliciano fan, this is it. This package has everything including a great Concert DVD, plus a CD with 18 hits. I was looking for many of these songs for years, and could never find the originals from his Grammy winning album on CD. They are in this package! Ay Carino, Samba Pa Ti (a great duet with Carlos Santana), and many many more. The DVD has Light My Fire, Start Me Up, Twist and Shot, and Que Sera, and many more Feliciano favorites. They even have bloopers, and a great Celia Cruz bonus video. This package is worth twice the price.

Fantastico
Best Feliciano package to come along in years.

Paso La Vida Pensando y Ay Carino
Two of Sr. Feliciano's biggest hits ever (Spanish or English) were Ay Carino, and Paso La Vida Pensando. However until this CD/DVD was released the original Grammy winning recordings for some reason were never made available to the public on CD. Well they are on this CD along with hits Samba Pa Ti (The original duet with Carlos Santana, and an Orchestra "Grande." Plus Volvere Alguna Vez, Light My Fire, Start Me Up, and many more. The CD by itself is worth the price of admission, but they also threw in a live concert DVD with some original concert footage, a Celia Cruz bonus video, and some other fun bells and whistles. If you are buying a Feliciano album, this is the one. Forget the old Standard "Feliz Navidad" which is great, and step up to what will soon be the new standard for Feliciano Officianado's.

Chayanne's DVD Greatest Hits
For all Hard core Chayanne fans, this is IT. This DVD features videos that span his career from the early days to today. See the evolution of this great artist from the days of "Fiesta en America" to "Y Tu Te Vas". The format and quality is excellent and you gotta see the interview portion of this DVD. Chayanne still remains as sweet and humble since the start of his career. A must have for your Chayanne Collection.

excelente
este es el dvd que se debe tener si le gustan los videos musicales, no tiene desperdicios por ningun lado

excellent!
This DVD showcases the best music videos from Chayanne, spanning from the late 80's until 2002. The selection is great -although there are a few songs left out- and the 5.1 audio mix is pretty good. This is a great buy!

Laura Pausini: Live 2001-2002 World Tour
Released in DVD by Wea Corp (18 March, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Laura Pausini
Average review score:

A Beautiful Performance
This DVD is two hours or so of non-stop entertainment. Pausini's voice and music are exciting and the crowd at the Fila Center in Milano is with her every step and word of the way. The videography made me feel almost like I was there. It contains a good balance of what is happening on stage and in the crowd. Pausini appears in three different sets of clothes and is very beautiful in all of them.

Laura Pausini Bravissima......
Laura is fantastic. Her voice really soars high. This is my favorite music dvd,I've watched it over and over just can't get enough of it.Even if you dont understand italian you will enjoy this great concert.

Incredible, what a voice!
I have to say, without any doubt, this is such a great DVD! I had the chance to go see her LIVE in Lima once month before she did this concert in Italy and she was so amazing, I was too impressed. This LIVE CONCERT is just so fitting, to remember her on stage, brings back memories. Laura is such a talented singer/artist and has such a great voice. This Best of... Live DVD of the concert in Milan has excellent sound and video quality. The cameras did a marvellous job in capturing every gesture of Laura and her musicians, nice and clear. The best songs are in this concert, one word, AMAZING. Really pumps you up with Non C'e and Il mio Sbaglio Piu Grande, plus the unforgettable ballad, Incancellabile, La Solitudine and Strani Amori. Plus her new songs, everything is in this DVD! For fans of Laura all over the world, it is a must have! SO worth it! Congratulations Laura, you have done it so well, once more. :-)

Manu Chao: Babylonia En Guagua

Classic!!!!
I must say I was a bit skeptical when I bought this. For one I spend over $30 at my local record shop and two I wasn't sure how dynamic Manu would be live on stage! Let me tell you all it was very much worth it and I regret not going to see him perform live before. Hopefully one day I will!

Great, great, great!
For those who are unable to see Manu Live. This DVD will provide a bit of what it is like to be there. I highly recommend for those Mano Negra, Manu Chau's fan.

Aguante Manu chao!!

Released in DVD by Wea Corp (27 January, 2004)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

la ley at their absolute best!
I've had the CD for quite some time and the replay value is still very high. The talent these guys have, especially Beto's voice is unbelievable. They impressed the heck out of me in this performance. All the instruments and back up vocals are captured in the best quality I think you can get. The CD sounds great, I can only imagine what the DVD is going to sound and look like. I can't wait!

The oracle of rock en español
This is one of the best performances in the music industry period! The acoustics and the lyrics blow away any individual who listens to their music. Many new comers to La Ley (including myself) do not expect much of them, but from the moment the guitars, the drums, and the lyrics are mixed together, you begin to zone out, an effect only the greatest music can produce. Some music takes a while to get into, but finally you love it; other you love from the gecko. You will feel the music running through your spine from the first time you hear it. For years many of us have been waiting for the DVD version to be released, and finally here it is. Enough said!

The best of La Ley in DVD
I saw this concert in TV and recently purchased the VHS version of it. You will love this concert. Besides, La Ley Unplugged version of the songs are even better than the originals. Great addition to your collection of concert DVDs.

Praises to the Most High
You will be astounded with the soul, the fidelity, the quality and the fun of this faithfull roots to the heart re-transmition of the true energy of the great music of Bob Marley. Gil is the Master of Brazilain music, the new Minister of Culture of Brazil ( what a great country! ) and a great heart of love and rhythem. If you love Maley you will Love this show!
I can promise you that!

marvelous!!
i was looking for latin music dvd's, which are rare, for my collection when i stumble on this gem here in San Juan, PR Border's store. I first have my doubts if it was a smart purchase, but being a big fan of Marley, have to give it a try.
The concert is spectacular, with lots of brazilian percussion (hey, is Gilberto Gil we are talking about), plus i think reunite the best Marley's tunes that can be suited for samba rythims. Listen especially to Three Little Birds, one of my favorite 5 tunes of Bob, and Kaya. The video is great just as the sound where you have the choice of DTS. If you like brazilian percussion and like Bob Marley, this is a treasure.
BUY IT!!

Alejandro Fernandez: La Trayectoria

A brilliant singer!
A friend of mine asked me if I could manage to obtain for her a video or DVD by this, to me, totally unknown singer. She had been to Mexico and heard him played everywhere, and later on she had seen him on the Christmas in Vienna concert with Placido Domingo,- shown also on Norwegian television because of Domingo.

I found this DVD in the Amazon list and ordered it. I watched it before handling it over to her, and was really surprised to discover both the really rare quality of the voice and the charisma. Actually, I watched it at least ten times!

I have since ordered several of his CD's, and I am just as impressed by them, although I do not understand Spanish, and do not really have any knowledge of this kind of traditional Mexican music. It's just so nice to discover a young man who sings beautifully without all the mannerisms of most modern popular stars. He is almost like Edith Piaf or Melina Mercouri,- I can understand what he is singing about without knowing the words! I especially enjoyed the double CD with his 2002 concert of Mexican songs from the 20th Century, including marvellous renditions of Granada and Besame Mucho, songs also known to Scandinavians.

Alejandro Fernandez is completely unknown in my homeland, and his products cannot be ordered through any music store, except for the DVD and video of the Vienna Christmas concert,- marred by the presence of the terribly mannered French chanteuse Patricia Kaas. I do really recommend this, although I am a grown up man and usually not a customer of pop videos/DVD's. The reason for giving only four out of five stars is the lack of English subtitles on the portrait interview included on the DVD. Does his record company want his name known outside Spanish speaking countries, or do they not? I am completely aware of the Spanish-speaking aera being huge, but still.... I have already introduced the man and his music to several young Norwegian singers in the folk, jazz and musical-field, and they all want to go out and buy...

By the way,- can anyone inform me and my friend if any of his concert appearances are available on video or DVD, maybe in Mexico? Amazon regrettably only lists an out of stock concert video, without second hand offers. We do both own NTSC compatible VCR players and DVD players adaptable to Sone 1. And we would be in gratitude for ever!

The most beautiful young mexican voice
Alejandro is simply one of the truest and most gifted artist in Mexico. He sings our traditional and contemporary mexican songs with such a grace that makes me incredibly proud of mexican folklore and culture. It so rewarding to see that the newest generetions in Mexico have someone who can keep the beautiful genres of ranchera, boleros, huapangos and balada going, and doing it so amazingly. Alejandro eres nuestro orgullo. This video will not be a dissapoinment, but will be an excelent treat for followers of Alejandro's career. To see him sing and how he gives all of himself to show the feelings his songs portray is heaven.

To Larsen, who was asking if there were any more dvd's available in Mexico, I live in Europe, but in my next trip to Mexico I'll look around and keep you posted.

One of Mexico's Most Powerful Male Vocalists !
The music is magnificent !...Words like colorful culture and pure class come to mind... The videos themselves each have a very cinematic feel. One video and song in particular stands out entitled Nube Viajera (Travelling Cloud or Wandering Cloud). It is this video alone that can make any woman cry and put a lump in the throat of the most macho of guys ( I know it did me). The video is filmed in black and white with the setting of that in a cemetery. He is serenading the mother of his child who died giving birth. For this video alone the collection is worth owning ! This is a prime example how the viewer/listener is treated to each video actually TELLING a story...The videos are colorful and vivid and some are directed in sepia tones or black and white to add to the dramatic feel. Nothing is spared or left as an afterthought in the directing and visuals.

No young Mexican or possibly international vocal talent comes even remotely close to that of Alejandro Fernandez'...This is it. This is the refined male vocal Mariachi singer that a little over ten years ago no one ever heard of...Alejandro's vocal range is almost operatic and rich in the baritone characteristic befitting the Mariachi sound. To have sung in Vienna a few years ago with the likes of Placido Domingo for a televised Christmas special was something spectacular to behold.

On the technical side, you get your money's worth for 97 minutes of material. The 5.1 Digital Dolby Surround is one of the finest and most enveloping I have heard for any dvd music video compilation (and I own several which DO NOT live up to their full 5.1 surround potential). I felt I was in the middle of the action on some of the videos or in the center of the instrumentalists/mariachi players. The quality of the dvd video shows little grain or macro-blocking artifacts. Their is a crispness to even the videos from the early 90's...As for the extras and interviews or behind the scenes, everything is spoken in Spanish (have not checked if English subtitles or an English track exists)...So, those who do not understand, get somebody who can translate...some very fascinating stuff !

So, even for those who are curious as to who this top male vocalist from Mexico is should pick this dvd-video collection up...I have friends who do not speak or understand Spanish, but once you hear the music and the grand talent performing, the language barrier will disappear !
