The Last of Mrs. Lincoln (Broadway Theatre Archive)
Released in DVD by Kultur (25 June, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: George Schaefer
Julie Harris brings depth and grace to one of history's most maligned first ladies in The Last of Mrs. Lincoln. This production, part of the Broadway Theater Archive series, has been adapted for television, but not intrusively. Television allows for cuts and multiple viewing angles, but the feel of a play is very much here. The scenario follows Mary Todd Lincoln and the ill-fated Lincoln family from the year of the president's assassination through the end of Mary's life. The occasional bet-you-didn't-know historical anecdote is thrown in to the dialogue, but otherwise Mrs. Lincoln works well as a play and never feels like classroom fare. Harris reveals Lincoln's stubbornness and tunnel vision where her family is concerned but also lends her sympathy and humor. Though clearly a difficult woman to live with, she is hardly the vicious harridan who has come down through the historical rumor mill. Harris is bolstered by an excellent supporting cast, including Michael Christopher as the much put-upon Robert Lincoln, a young Robby Benson as Tad Lincoln, and Patrick Duffy as Mrs. Lincoln's favorite nephew, Lewis. --Ali Davis

I Saw The Final Performance of "The Last of Mrs. Lincoln"
I was fortunate to be in the audience for the final performance of Miss Julie Harris in "The Last of Mrs. Lincoln" on Broadway. When the curtain came down and the thuderous applause began, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

What can one say about Julie Harris's incredible performance? The entire cast was wonderful, of course, but we're talking about one of the First Ladies of the American Theatre here. My heart broke (along with everyone in the audience) when Mrs. Lincoln wrote (aloud) a letter to her beloved nephew. I tried desperately NOT to shed tears, but the floodgates were shattered all over the theatre. People were sobbing openly. I had seen nothing else that season, but was convinced that Julie would win the Tony Award for best actress. She did.

Screams of "bravo!" greeted Miss Harris as she took bow after bow. I must put this performance along side Geraldine Page in "The Trip to Bountiful," Uta Hagen in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff," Cecily Tyson in "A Woman Called Moses," Jessica Tandy in "The Gin Game," Bette Davis in "All About Eve," and Gloria Foster in "A Hand is On The Gate."

THE UNFORGETTABLE JULIE HARRIS
I HAVE ALWAYS REGRETTED NOT SEEING MISS HARRIS ON BROADWAY IN THIS PRODUCTION. THE DVD WHICH I RECENTLY PURCHASED REMINDED ME HOW FORTUNATE THE WORLD OF THEATRE IS TO HAVE PRODUCED SUCH AN INCREDIBLE ACTRESS. THE PERORMANCES THROUGHOUT THIS PRODUCTION ARE OUTSTANDING AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONE WHO TRULY APPRECIATES THEATRE AT ITS VERY BEST. AS ALWAYS, MISS HARRIS GIVES A PERFORMANCE WHICH COMPLETELY CAPTIVATES THE VIEWER. THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED!

"it's not the years that age us, but the loneliness"
This 1976 KCET production directed by George Schaefer is a re-creation of the 1972 Broadway play for which Julie Harris won one of her 5 Tony Awards.
Ms. Harris' performance will keep you riveted to the screen in this astounding portrayal of the ageing, troubled, and misunderstood Mary Todd Lincoln.
Exquisitely written by James Prideaux, it's a compassionate portrait of this first lady who's love for her husband made it so hard for her to live without him, and does give insight into certain things. It was Mary who installed many improvements in the White House (like plumbing !), and was never sufficiently renumerated for them by the government.

The final seventeen years of her life depicted are not all doom and gloom, thanks to the script, which is balanced with wonderful wit. I love the dialogue with Senator Austin (well played by Denver Pyle) in a sparse hotel room in Frankfurt, as well as the repartee with a malicious gossip (deliciously played by Kate Wilkinson) during her 1875 stay in Springfield.

The rest of the cast is excellent: Michael Christopher plays her son Robert, who was the only one of their children to live to full maturity, Robby Benson her beloved Tad (two other children had died previously), Priscilla Morrill and Ford Rainey play her her sister Elizabeth and brother-in-law Ninian, and Patrick Duffy their grandson, Edward Lewis Baker Jr.

The costume design by Noel Taylor is marvelous, and I was especially delighted to see the reproduction of the beautiful gown adorned with flowers with matching flower headress seen in photographs of Mrs. Lincoln, and Ms. Harris wears it with beauty, grace and style.
Mrs. Lincoln died at age sixtythree in her sister's house in Springfield, the same house she was married in, and given the wedding ring with the inscription "Love is Eternal".
This is a remarkable drama for history buffs, and Julie Harris is truly the First Lady of the stage.

My least favorite Gundam DVD....
but that isnt saying its not good. It is good and i like this DVD. Just that Episodes 6 and 7 i dont like that much. Episode 6 confuses me very much and I have seen every Gundam episode and I dont get it. Episode 7 i just dont like for some reason. To me it doesnt make much sense at all. Though Episodes 5 and 8 pick up the slack. 2 Argo episodes and Argo is my 2nd favorite character next to Domon so it more than makes this DVD worth buying.

excellent series
this series is excellent while it does not posess the dramma and serious nature of other gundam seres it is still and excellent series and should not be missed ( and koodos to bandi for being able to switch audio tracks on the fly in these dvd)

Krush Groove
Released in DVD by Warner Home Video (13 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Michael Schultz
Like its progenitors Beat Street and Wild Style, Krush Groove is a movie about hip-hop that in its rush to document an emergent culture ignores plot, acting, cinematography, and anything else that makes a movie watchable or worthwhile. That said, Krush Groove contains some nifty performances from hip-hop legends Run-DMC, the always hilarious Fat Boys (see Disorderlies if you can't get enough of their weighty shtick), brilliant MC Kurtis Blow, and Prince protégé Sheila E. Also look out for soon-to-be L.A. Law-yer Blair Underwood in a lead role. Performances aside, Krush Groove isn't def, it's just so-so. --Ethan Brown

good
it's rated r for absolutely nothing. barely any cuss words compared to todays rap.

One of my favorites
Watching this movie is definitely a trip down memory lane. Any true fan of Hip Hop will enjoy watching old school artists such as Run-DMC perform. The plot is formulated, but makes for a light-hearted entertaining movie.

Qualtity of the DVD is tight as well.

Nipsey digs the Old School Hip -Hop
You into old school like Nipsey then this is your flick.

The great RUN-DMC with the late great Jam master Jay, LL COOL J,Kurtis Blow,The fatboys, Beastie Boys, and The fine Sheila E(WOW)

And must for the Hip Hop movie collection.

Nipsey digs the soundtrack too.

a load of crap
i unfortunately live in england the greatest crap country on earth when it comes down to purchasing anything from your country, it's o'k' for my country to back you in the wars but when it comes down to buying anything it's not possible.
i am refering to the fact that i am as interested in probably as much as all americans in jfk's assisnation and all i want is to purchase dvd's and books on the subject but just as eveything else is banned to us in this not great britain, i cant even buy the goods that are not so secret to yourselves.

geoff

Fascinating
So many years have passed and we finally know the name of one of the assassins. A great two disc DVD set.

You Be The Judge
I must say this video is one of the most entertaining videos I have ever seen. But the seriousness of this tape haunts me to no end. The part that features funeral director Paul Groody who talks about the exhumation that was done in 1981 to confirm the identity of Oswald's body, will give you chills. This tape challenges you to look at the Kennedy assignation from many areas and not just from the Warren Commission. Because of this tape, I have purchase books that are pro-conspiracy or anti conspiracy and have learned many things about how the many factions of the US government run. This video is so good, I really hope that Turner will do an updated version of it, because I am most interested in learning what happened to the participates of this DVD. I also wish Turner will explore how and why many witnesses or people with knowledge about the assignation died between 1963 and 1978 under mysterious circumstances. I am not saying I buy Turner's conspiracy theories, but I will say this DVD will change and haunt you.

Playboy - 2003 Video Playmate Calendar
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (15 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating:
Starring: Dalene Kurtis
Average review score:

Pure garbage!
This Play Boy DVD is by far the worst I have ever viewed. From the music to Dalene Curtis her self it is pure garbage. Horrible story lines, 98% face and breast shots, 2% kitty and butt shots, and the same old tired music that is in every playboy video. Do your self a favor and spend you money one another video like the Jodi Ann Patterson PMOY DVD or the Heather Kozar PMOY DVD.

All filler and no action from Playboy... imagine that.
Sure, the Playboy 2003 Video Calendar is a slick production but fails to please this veiwer. As is the problem with Playboy's videos the company just doesn't want to let fans see "all" of their favorite playmates. Now, I'm not talking about sleazy spread shots, but the lack of detailed "kitty" shots that show what each centerfold has is very frustrating. If you like breast shots, then pick it up. However, if you wish to see what the playmates have under[neath] keep dreaming. If you want to see decent centerfold videos try DreamGirls or CandyGirl Video, not this [weak] music video art wanna-be tripe.

Worthy
If you enjoyed these stunning Playmates in their centerfolds then without a thought you will as well also enjoy this Playmate Video Calendar very much. Heather Spytek is memorizing, if you weren't already a fan, you will become one! This Video includes 12 Playboy Centerfolds which are Heather Spytek,Tina Jordan,Shanna Moakler,Christi Shake,Dalene Kurtis,Lauren Anderson,Stephanie Heinrich,Lindsey Vuolo,Nicole Narain,Kimberly Stanfield,Jennifer Walcott,Heather Carolin. Sure enough if you are a fan of these mentioned Playmates than you shall enjoy it.
