King of the Jungle
Released in DVD by HBO Home Video (04 February, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Seth Zvi Rosenfeld
Starring: John Leguizamo and Cliff Gorman
Average review score:

Unique characters, fine acting and good story. I liked it.
This 2001 film stars John Leguisamo as Seymour, a mentally challenged young man on the tough streets of New York. He has the mind of a five year old, and yearns to be accepted. His mother, Julie Carmen, a civil rights activist, babies her son and tries to protect him. His divorced father, Cliff Gorman, tries to deny that anything is wrong with his son. Rosie Perez, his mother's lover, tries to help him. And so does a friend, Jeff Rappaport, who tries to teach him to fight and see himself as "king of the jungle."

Seymour's troubled world is shattered when his mother is murdered. That's when everything seems to spin out of control. The story pulled me in and kept me there because I wanted to see how it would all play out. Marisa Tomei plays a small role as a tough detective. And Annabella Sciorra plays the murderer's mother. It's a fine cast and they all do a good job.

I liked the film. It's tight, moves fast, and introduces some unique and interesting characters. And John Leguisamo shines in a difficult role. Recommended.

Spectacular!
I can't think of any other actor who could have played John Leguizamo's character in King of the Jungle; Leguizamo is brilliant yet again. He plays a 25 year old 'retarded' man, Seymour, who lives with his lesbian mother and loves to play basketball. After his mother is murdered, he struggles to find the killer... It's a great story, and I have gained even more respect for Leguizamo... It's great to see him in a small budget made for HBO film. It just proves that he acts for the joy of acting, not money. If you like John Leguizamo or great plots and great acting, this movie is for you. He definately plays the part well; I felt sorry for Seymour.

the jungle - NYC
this movie is great. it conveys the feel of new york city's streets with an excellent 'urban' cast including rosie perez and michael rappaport. john leguizamo has turned out to be an excellent actor as well.

Mummies Alive - The Legend Begins
Released in DVD by Vidmark/Trimark (28 August, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Seth Kearsley
Twelve-year-old Presley is the unknowing reincarnation of a murdered Egyptian prince. Coincidentally, his mom works at a San Francisco museum hosting a mummy exhibit, which allows his centuries-old archenemy Scarab and his four guardians to contact him. The first four episodes of this 1997 syndicated series from DIC have been compiled in this feature-length movie. With titles "Ra Ra Ra Ra," "Sleep Walk Like an Egyptian," "Pack to the Future," and "The Gift of Geb," the writers combine pun-filled humor and action. They have fun with the culture shock experienced by the mummies-come-to-life (the TV is a "spirit box," a car is a "swift chariot"), as well as the requisite centerpiece battle in each episode. Presley, his four preserved protectors (including girl warrior Nefer-Tina voiced by the ubiquitous Cree Summer), and a mummified cat share a pleasant camaraderie, while the villains are predictably depraved. It all makes for 80 minutes of relatively harmless fun for children ages 5 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Saint Tail - Moonlight
Released in DVD by Tokyo Pop (12 March, 2002)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Average review score:

The episodes leave you beggin for more.
I wasn't really sure what this series was about when I started collecting the manga, which I got before the anime. And since I already purchased the manga, I wasn't scared at all about seeing this and how it would turn out.
Something that I don't like about any of my Saint Tail movies is that on the back of them they have anime pictures that aren't even in the movie it's on the back of.
And I really hoped they would keep on the subject of Asuka seeing Meimi in the mirror when Saint Tail looked into it.
first episode:
Saint Tail takes a pet from a boy who stole him. And because Meimi kinda revealed her secret identity to Asuka, she has to meet him in the park or he'll reveal her identity to the whole world!!
second episode:
Nephews of an old woman take her mirror and put it up for auction and Saint Tail has to take it back.
third episode:
A little kid steals a man's bike and Saint Tail has to give it back to him before he leaves for America.
fourth episode:
A raccoon is taken from a girl and Saint Tail and has to give it back to the owner, and not only that, jewel thieves are also afoot!!
Another great installment of Saint Tail that every fan should buy!!

I can't express how much I love this series!!!!
This DVD is the 4th in the Saint Tail series. I would have to rank this up there with Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura( but it's better in the sub-version). In this DVD, Meime(a.k.a. Saint Tail) almost gives herself away to Asuka Jr. You kind of feel like she's tired of hiding her secret, which she should be, although this series isn't absolutely hilarious. It's soooo cute and lighthearted...and the little love sequences just make you want to giggle(yes, giggle!!) Like most people, your probably new to the series, I can't even begain to say how glad I am I took the chance to start this one, I haven't regretted the wasted money or time, and what's even better about this series,it can be watched over and over(kind of like Simpsons reruns), that's always a plus for me!! SO BUY THIS SERIES...of course you want to get the first one which is titled-Theif of Hearts...cause if you don't your missing out:)

Saint Tail strikes again!
This DVD is FILLED with comedy, action and some somewhat suspense.Like if Saint Tail will be captured by Asuka or someone else.Or if he finds out she [Meimi Haneoka]is Saint Tail. Basically Saint Tail helps others who she hears lost thier doll on top of a castle or if someone stole a diamond. Her friend [Siera Mimori] tells her about these things because, since she is a nun in training, people come to pray that it would return to them.
Personaly,I think this is a great DVD and I would love to have it myself [I saw it at my friends].Also it is a very fun cartoon to draw.I hope whoever is reading this review will consider buying this DVD and I hope you like it!!

Saint Tail - Spring Love
Released in DVD by Tokyo Pop (22 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Average review score:

My favorite one out of all the ones I own!
I may only own three{thief of hearts, moonlight, and this one}, but I think I can tell which ones are the best.
As soon as I saw the subtitles for the theme song of saint tail, I thought it was going to be completely subbed, but fortunately, it was only the starting and ending songs of each episodes. I personally think the singing {even if it's japanese, which makes it sound alot better}makes both songs better, even if there isn't any subtitles for the ending songs. Also, because this movie is so good{I just got this movie five days ago, by the way off another site} and I've watched four times already{ or three times, but I think it was four}. All the episodes on this are so great.
Note: all these episodes can be found in the manga, but I'd still advise you to get these since there's a big difference between the anime and the manga. All episodes can be found in the volumes 1 and 2
Episode 8
Meimi loses tickets to a baseball game that she promised to take junior to in exchange for helping her in math. Not only that, but someone takes a pitcher's glove.
Episode 9
Meimi{she's the model} and her friend,Mikki, who's the designer, enter in a junior design competition. Just one problem: an "enemy" of Mikki's stole her design!
Episode 10
A man's aunt and uncle are keeping his jewel for themselves! And Rina tries to capture Saint Tail, but once again, she tricks her and junior. Very funny episode.
Episode 10
A school festival goes on at st. paulia's academy. Saint Tail must steal a roll of film before it's exposed in the school paper.

Saint Tail is...well....a saint!!!
This DVD being the third in the series as of today, is probably(in my opinion) the best one so far. This series has progressed a lot since it's first release. Meime, who isn't your typical school girl is secretly Saint Tail( she's sort of a bringer of justice, or a modern day Robin Hood-stealing from the rich to give back to the poor what is rightfully theirs)From returning stolen jewelry to their rightful owners, or getting back artwork, she actually isn't really given credit for what she does, in fact her fellow classmate Asuka Jr. does. The reason? Well(see this is the only thing that is kinda stupid about this series) is that he is...yes... a detective!!!, and he's only 14 years old. He wants to catch Saint Tail and find out who she is, and during that process he has kind of gottan a crush on her, but he's just not fast or smart enough to catch her, but like I said earlier about Saint Tail not getting the credit for giving back stolen goods to their rightful owners is Asuka automatically has the police thinking that HE was the one that got back what Saint Tail was after(and the worst part is Asuka Jr, never tells his "police force" that it was because of Saint Tail). But Meime(a.k.a Saint Tail) doesn't seem to care too much, because alas!!! she has fallen in love with him. And now she's in a Superman situation..what do I mean by that? Well when it's daytime and she's at school( similar to Clark Kent at work as a journalist)she's unhappy because she wants Asuka Jr. to know that she is Saint Tail, because he is in love with her. And then when she fights crimes as " Superman" he's even more persistent to catch her. But this series is quite excellent, better in the sub version though, and very lighthearted. But the Manga version that this is based on IS better. Well I hope this helps and hope you enjoy this enchanting series as much as I do, especially the love story!!!!

Blue's Clues - Blue's First Holiday

very appealing stories, plus bonus episodes with steve
For my now three year old, when Steve went away he was so sad that he didn't really take to Joe. He had mostly watched re runs on noggin. And for nearly a year now, he did not like to watch Blue's clues, because he know Steve has gone away or will leave. But after watching this episode, he was so excited to see Joe as a baby, and Steve as a young boy -- exactly the age group that appeals to 3 to 4 year olds, and he watched with a 4 yr old friend, and both absolutely loved it. And, to my relief, its brought back his love of blue. And he is so thrilled to see those bonus episodes -- "Steve is all grown up now! He's a big boy!" that it has brought the concept of growing home to him like nothing else.

The cover episode is a lovely story line about how Blue puppy comes to join Steve. We buy all of these for the bonus Steve episodes which we already own on VHS :-) Wish they would just go ahead and put the episodes on the Main Menu, instead of one level of "Bonus" indirection. Anyway, Joe or Steve, Blue's Clue's is so educational and appealing, its absolutely not to miss. This one has the Blue's Big Holiday VHS episodes as bonus.

The Climb
Released in DVD by Vanguard Films (16 November, 1999)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Bob Swaim
Average review score:

Poignant, Suspenseful and Perfectly Acted
Poignant, suspenseful and perfectly acted, The Climb is as rare as its unlikely central friendship -- and as full of humanity. - Sheila Benson, film critic

A solidly crafted film from the director Bob Swaim, The Climb is an engaging tale of growing up in the 1950's. - David Rooney, VARIETY

In a world where marketplace spin and the one-line pitch meeting has diminished movie-making to deplorably predictable levels, it is a joy to see Bob Swaim's multi-leveled and richly-textured new film. Instead of Hollywood clichés and cardboard figures, he gives us believable characters and situations alive with all the nuance of real life. Defying all easy categorization, THE CLIMB is destined to become a classic. -William Hjortzberg author (Falling Angel, Legend, Angel Heart)

.. one of those sterling independent films that sometimes unfortunately slip through cracks. ...THE CLIMB is a little jewel well worth seeking out... - Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune Movie Critic.

The Climb' is a moving coming-of-age drama with a juicy performance by John Hurt as a cantankerous, chain-smoking, bourbon-slugging geezer. David Strathairn displays his typical understated brilliance playing a father who redefines heroism. -Annette Insdorf, Columbia University

Brilliant cast, insightful and sensitive direction. Without question some of John Hurt's finest work. Bob Swaim grew through his high school years in California, and it shows, for unlike most Europeans his vision of US life is honest to the core though clearly his years in French cinema give him an intuition most Americans desperately lack about their own culture. -David Franzoni screenwriter, Citizen Cohn, Amistad, Gladiator,Jumpin' Jack Flash

Funny, touching and thought-provoking. An island of reality and humanity in a sea of effects films. - Daniel Will-Harris, editor, eFuse.com

Mobile Suit Gundam The 08th MS Team (Vol. 3)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (20 November, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
The third set of episodes in this mecha adventure focuses on conflicting loyalties. During a skirmish, Shiro and Aina save each other's lives--and discover their love transcends their commitment to the warring Earth Federation and Zeon Forces. Shiro wrestles with another moral dilemma when he violates orders and aids a friendly guerrilla village. Although he may have lost faith in the war, Shiro has grown more attached to the other members of the 08 Team, in contrast to Aina's zealot brother Ginias, who is willing to sacrifice Zeon soldiers to get his prototype Apsalus military robot into production. The principle characters' battles with their consciences are juxtaposed with some well-staged battles between space ships and Gundam robots. Rated 13 Up for violence, profanity, and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

What The?
I admit that this is probably one of the best Gundam incarnations ever (I liked Wing, but I felt that it got repetetive in its action sequences and without Endless Waltz to close up the story, it stays that way). I enjoyed every single episode but there's just one thing that bothers me about this DVD rendition. Well, actually, two things, but one may just be my DVD players (a Playstation 2 and an old pre-DTS Sony):
1)the part that may just be me. The transfer of these episodes is really pretty bad as there seems to be some kind of flicker control problem. Whatever was being used to transfer the episodes to disc, it hated horizontal lines, especially on characters' mouths (they seemed to just disappear occasionally and flicker sporadically). But trust me, it is hardly worth complaining about (and it is not why this only gets four stars instead of a solid 5)
2)the part that really got on my nerves, hence the "What The?"
What happened to Episode 8? When I first saw this on Cartoon Network's Midnight Run, I was surprised that the episode ran 45 minutes! Though this is typical of an OAV series to have differing lengths in episodes, but for those extra 15 minutes to not be included in the DVD or VHS editions? What's going on?
The extra fifteen minutes of episode 8 are spent on a subplot involving "That Intel Chick" as Karen calls her. The episode actually ends with a standoff between Amada and the former Zeon spy...at gunpoint! It also involves the true return of Eledore from the field hospital, so his sudden appearance in episode 9 doesn't seem so...well, sudden.
Though my bet is now that they'll incorporate the footage into episode 10 as a flashback (though that would still through off the flow of the story).
So, that is the reason for this mere 4 stars, the flicker-problem is pale in comparison to the simple deletion of an entire subplot that enhances the storyline and gives the characters a dynamic boost.
So enjoy, but be warned, these episodes will feel incomplete...because they are!

Disk 3
This has some of the best parts to the movie with the crash landing on the mountain and the subsuqent things needed to be done to survive being the best. This is series is a must have for any true anime fan, even if you aren't in to mecha battles. I wish they had done more the 13 episodes for this, and can't wait for the ending. If you have only seen this series on cartoon network, get the dvd, you will be amazed at what was edited.

Wonderful! Not to be missed!
08th MS Team is one of my favorite anime series, and this DVD is awesome! These three episodes are some of the best episodes, though I can't wait for Episode 10 to come out. When the Zeon team invades Kiki's village, you would expect them to be villainous, but infact they aren't. They are just looking for some provisions, and are kind as can be to the villagers, showing that there are good people on the so-called "bad" side of the war. And when Shiro and Aina are being questioned after being found in the mountains together, that was one of the best parts of the series that shows the true emotion and realism to 08th MS Team. I really enjoy these episodes and am thrilled they are out on DVD. Don't pass this DVD up, because Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team is one of the best gundam series out there. Sieg Zeon!
