Sailor Moon SuperS - Pegasus Collection I
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (29 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Sailor Moon-Super S
The Super S series encompasses episodes 128 to 166 of this popular TV show and follows the S series, in which the Sailor Scouts defeated the Death Busters. During an eclipse, the eerie Dead Moon Circus appears in Tokyo. Ringmaster Zirconia sends out the Amazon Trio (Fish-Eye, Tigers-Eye, and Hawks-Eye) to find a "mirror of beautiful dreams," which will enable them to capture the Pegasus, a winged unicorn that forms a psychic bond with Chibiusa. Pegasus gives Serena and Chibiusa new weapons and the ability to transform into Super versions of themselves. They need all the power they can muster to protect not only their innocent friends, but a nun, Artemis the cat, and Serena's mother Ikuko from the machinations of the Amazon Trio, despite help from Tuxedo Moon and Scouts Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako in Japanese). The six episodes here are the uncut originals and rated 13 Up for violence, grotesque imagery, and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

The best Sailor Moon DVD I've ever seen!
This is the best Sailor Moon DVD I bought! I got this as a present from my mom for getting good grade's. At first, I expected it to be boring like the Sailor MoonS DVD, I rented, but SuperS was great! It also had my favorite episode on it, which i haven't see in a long time, and I've been dying to see! :) Anyway, I think ALL the episode's are great, and I recommend this DVD to any Sailor Moon fan!

This is a beautiful season!
I got this DVD as a Christmas present, and I cherish having it. I have always wanted to see the first 3 episodes of the Super S season, seeing as I've already seen the next 3 episodes on the DVD, because I own volume 2 on VHS. I am going to sell my VHS soon, because there's no point in having the same episodes on DVD and VHS. I really love this season, it's my 2nd favorite season. (The S season is my favorite)

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Collection 0-7
Released in DVD by A.D. Vision (29 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Hideaki Anno
In "The Birth of NERV," the filmmakers offer the viewer glimpses of the main characters' childhoods in scenes that hint at the sources of their problems and sorrows. And the penultimate episodes are dominated by sorrows at NERV, the organization that handles the Earth's defenses against the invading Angels. Asuka has grown so hostile, she can no longer bond with her Eva. After being badly injured in battle with the 15th Angel, she's removed from the program she lived for. As Commander Ikari insists on keeping Shinji's Eva in "cryostasis," Rei is left to face the serpentine 16th Angel alone: rather than be overcome by it, she destroys her Eva, the Angel, much of the surrounding landscape--and herself. Shinji is shattered by her disappearance. After decoding a message from the murdered Kaji, Misato forces Ritsuko to reveal to her and to Shinji the hideous truth about the creation of the Evas. But Misato, Shinji, and Ritsuko are only pawns in the larger game being played by the ruling cadre of the sinister SEELE organization. The 16th Angel has been vanquished and, according to the predictions they have derived from the Dead Sea Scrolls, only one remains to appear. These fragmented episodes showcase the singular mixture of Christian symbolism, sci-fi action, and Eastern mysticism that has made Evangelion one of the most widely--and hotly--discussed series in the history of anime. Not rated; suitable for ages 14 and up: robot versus robot violence, minor nudity, and grotesque imagery. --Charles Solomon
Average review score:

Beautifully depressing
These 3 episodes are easily the most depressing in the series. While episode 21 (The Birth Of NERV) is just a bit disturbing, episode 22 (At Least, Be Humane) opens with depressing dialogue about a woman who comitted suicide, ominous "funeral" music playing, and the faint sounds of a woman weeping. And then there's episode 23 (Tear), which ends with the poor doctor simply breaking down into tears (all the voice actresses had to have watched something very depressing to be able to warm up their crying.) The end is nigh!

"The cruel angel's thesis bleeds"
These three episodes (21 thru 23) are the lead in to the end. Even as SEELE's plans approach fruition both Rei and Asuka are subjected to bruising attacks. New themes are introduced, some questions are answered, and we begin to understand that Gendo Ikari's agenda is to be a god maker - the herald of a new existence.

1) The Birth of NERV

In the aftermath of Unit 1's actions SEELE begins an intensive investigation into Gendo Ikari's actions. This culminates in suspicion turning on Ryoji Kyogi. Misato's heartbreak is played against the story of the beginning of Gehirn, the project that was to become NERV. For the first time we learn of Shinji and Rei's beginnings. In addition, we learn what Rei has always known - the EVA's are far more than dolls.

2) At Least be Humane

Asuka, worn down by her repeated losses of self esteem, begins to lose the ability to synchronize effectively with Unit 02. This leaves her vulnerable when Angel 15 (Arael) takes position on orbit where the EVA's cannot reach it. In an eerie episode, Asuka and her EVA are hit with a psychic attack that frays away at her fears and threatens to destroy her personality. Rei must attempt a rescue with the Lance of Longinus, but terrible damage is done.

3) Tear

With Asuka in tatters and Unit 01 untrustworthy only Rei can take active duty when Angel 16 (Armisael) attacks. The angel invades Unit 00 in an attempt to mesh. Rei finds herself forced into introspection that she isn't used to. Unable to stop the angel Rei chooses self-destruction. Even though Rei seems to survive, something is wrong and Ritsuko's guilt leads her to reveal more about the project to Shinji and Misato.

One of the interesting themes that are introduced is that of motherhood and family. All of the characters share some sort of deep injury in their core relationships. In addition, we discover that Rei is somehow related to Shinji. Perhaps, in Gendo Ikari's mind, she is in some way a substitute for Yui Ikari (Shinji's dead mother). In these layers of misplaced emotions, there is no promise of healing. Instead, with the appearance of the Lance of Longinus pinning the second angel in a mock crucifixion, the play of spiritual imagery reached a new peak. Death and transformation is the path offered, as if the only way to recover is to become something more - or less - than human.

Fine art for the mind and soul. Anime at it's best!
Evangelion has long been hailed for being the most provocative, and groundbreaking anime series in history. It will forever be held as a mark for other series to try and hurdle in regards to art quality, depth, and ability to actually draw you in and make you feel like you're experiencing everything along with the characters.
That being said, this final installment is excellent. This time it delves deep into the inner psyche of the characters, while trying to unravel many of the mysteries dropped throughout the prior episodes. It also reflects the thoughts of the creator of the series and his outlook on the future of the world.
There have been complaints that this being the final episode, not all of the questions were answered and the ending was too surreal.
I agree that there are still questions that need answering, but I liked the ending.
Either way two movies "Death and Rebirth" and "End of Evangelion" will wrap up any loose ends. And will give a more action based ending. They're due out in August 2002 tentatively.
In the mean time buy this! It's well worth it. Evangelion forever!

Robotech - The Macross Saga - Legacy Collection 2
Released in DVD by A.D. Vision (07 August, 2001)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Starring: Robotech-Macross Saga
Although it helped to create an audience for Japanese animation in the United States, Robotech (1985) has always been an anomaly: an anime series that was never seen in Japan in its final form. Producers at Harmony Gold edited together footage from Super Dimension Fortress: Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, three similar-looking series from Tatsunoko Studios, to create an 85-episode sci-fi epic with a new story line. In addition to the second 12 episodes of the Macross adventure, this second three-disc set includes "Robotech Galaxy of Stars," a short promotional film from 1986, with unidentified voice actors signing photographs for children, and "Point of View," an interview that producer and story editor Carl Macek did with a Dallas talk show just before the local premiere of the feature. There are galleries of character model sheets and comic book covers, and "International Clips" offers two short sequences in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Even more fun is a collection of TV commercials for the original Matchbox toys, although the action figures, play sets, and spaceships the long-haired little boys gleefully play with now sell for up to $600 in online auctions. Robotech occupies a special place in the hearts of the Generation Y's who grew up watching it, and the appearance of the series on DVD has been eagerly awaited. Unrated; "contains mild animated violence" restricted to spaceship and robot battles; suitable for ages 8 and up. --Charles Solomon

Malcolm Jamal-Warner?
Although I'm glad ROBOTECH is available on the digital format- with 6 shows per disc, no less!- I'm somewhat disappointed by the picture quality. Sadly, it's only a slight improvement over the old VHS tapes I used to own. The sound's not too much better, either. But, at least there's some improvement. And if given the proper care, I'll never have to worry about the picture & sound quality degrading on the DVD format like I did with the VHS counterparts. So there's some good news, anyway.

Another disappointment I have is the fact that the Robotech DVDs aren't in 'Perfect Collection' format, where the viewer can watch both the American-release eppie and its original unedited Japanese (w/ English subtitles) counterpart. You know, a little something for both the hard-core Robotech nut and the Macross/anime purist. Sadly, this ain't likely to happen in the near future- the Macross series (which was re-made into the first part of Robotech) is getting its own separate DVD release. Looks like I'll have to clear off some more space on my video shelf...

Anyway, this particular set includes Volumes 3 & 4 (shows 13 through 24) of "Robotech: The Macross Saga" (lots more death & destruction, and the loss of a couple of the series' beloved stalwarts), and an extra features disc that's exclusive to this set. Probably the most interesting bit on this extras platter is a 15-minute interview with producer/writer Carl Macek on a Dallas-area community-access show. Although the clip is somewhat bland, Macek does discuss the other then-upcoming Robotech projects that never really took off, including the Sentinels series and rarely-seen Robotech Movie, which saw only a limited release in the Dallas- Fort Worth area before it pretty much disappeared from the scene. In fact, a few scenes from the movie are shown here, and are likely the only parts of the ill-fated flick that'll ever see the light of day in a legitimate commercial recording. BTW it's probably just as well anyway; I've seen the entire Robotech Movie on bootleg video. It's a pretty sad sight to say the least...

Also featured are brief character bios & animation model sketches of various mecha & equipment seen in the Macross segment. Unfortunately, these extras weren't too new to me, since most of the bios & sketches are also available in the Robotech Art 1 book. But, since Robotech Art 1 is a rare book, and thus very hard to track down, these particular bits are likely to be brand-spankin'-new to the average 'Techie. Then there's the featurette that takes you behind-the-scenes at the 1986 Robotech Galaxy of the Stars convention, complete with droves of geekin' fanboys, autograph booths, toys, buttons, posters, & other swag, and... Malcolm Jamal-Warner? What's he doing there, and why does he have his own autograph table? Was it part of a plot to cross over ROBOTECH with 'The Cosby Show'? Methinks a sinister conspiracy is afoot...

Like the previous box set extra features platter, this set's disc includes clips from the show dubbed in different languages. I find these parts kinda painful to look at. It's mainly due to the fact that the voice actors doing the foreign dubs tend to sound better than the English ones! Better emoting, inflections, the whole nine yards- especially the French & Portuguese voice-overs! I'm glad to see some folks still take pride in their work. Too bad it's in languages I only partially understand!

Finally, there's the wide array of Robotech toy ads- action figures, vehicles, die-cast toys, playsets, and fashion dolls! All done in that trademark loud, pumped-up 80s hype-it-to-death style that got many a spoiled brat to annoy the 'rents to buy, buy, buy! And you thought Transformers & G.I. Joe toy commercials were obnoxious!

'Late!

You can go home again
Robotech, for may of us was one of our first tastes of Japanese Anime. For the longest while the only way to see it was on TV or to buy the VHS versions released by FHE video. It gladdens my heart to see them finally on DVD. With so many features and add-on in the legacy collection, it makes the perfect gift for the ulimate robotech fan.

...Just when you thought you've seen Robotech
You've got the 1st Robotech Legacy DVD box and thought you were ready for this one ? Think again; sure you may have (re?) -lived those fantastic moments where the civilisation on SDF-1 catches up and the people start to pick up there lives. Or you may have seen Minmee becoming Macross Queen.

This box continues the action big time, it just becomes better and better. And to top that they even put in yet another superb bonus DVD into the package. Did _you_ know about the Robotech toys? You will after getting this box... "A must have for Robotech fans" IMVHO.

Sailor Moon S - Heart Collection VI: TV Series, Vols. 11 & 12 (Uncut)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (27 November, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Junichi Sato
The adventure of the magic heart crystals comes to its rather protracted conclusion as the villains multiply. Aided by the Outer Scouts and Tuxedo Moon, Sailor Scouts Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako in Japanese) take on new members of Witches 5, who work for Dr. Tomoe, who is trying to resurrect the Messiah of Silence, who serves Pharaoh 90 of the Tau Nebula. Further complications arise, as the evil Messiah has taken over the body of Hotaru, the friend of Serena's future daughter Chibiusa. Although the Scouts eventually defeat the forces of evil, Michiru and Haruka, Sailors Neptune and Uranus reproach Serena for risking the entire Earth to save Hotaru but eventually concede the rightness of her position. The many plots and battles don't allow the filmmakers much time for comedy or character interaction. Rated 13 Up: Violence and brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

Weak Witches 5
It's great how the S Season ends, but I wish that Telulu or Byruit or even Cyprine last more that on measley episode! Eugeal and Mimet get a whole dvd to themselves. Well anyways...if you wanna see how it all ends, get this. If you want to see Sailor Saturn, you barely see her, which SUCKS!

Poor Sound Quality
Excellent series, but for some reason all 6 dvds are in dual mono.
I'm not sure how that happened but it definitely hinders the experience as I've come to enjoy the music so much. The sound becomes overloaded, wavy, distorted and crackled much of the time. Worthy of 5 stars, but Pioneer, you gotta fix that audio track. The english dub is finished and over with but if they really cared about the consumer and their purchase another digital stereo print of the series in japanese could be requested from Toei as Pioneer obviously owns the right to release it. And maybe they could restore the opening sequences to their original episode format as well.

Sailor Moon Super is simply the best series.
Avid watchers of the show will agree that Sailor Moon Super is the best series, arguabley even better in its original Japanese format. This DVD allows you to watch each episode in English, or Japanese, with the option of subtitles. The extra features include biographical accounts on each Senshi, with little pictures of them.
This is the final DVD within the series, and includes 7 episodes. The series climax comes at episodes 4 and 5, with the last two as more of a series summary, and promo for Sailor Moon Super S.
The final episodes in the series see the awakening of the Messiah Of Silence, and chaos begins to occur in Tokyo as a result. There are some teary scenes with Hotaru and Sailor Moon, and the final battle between the sailor senshi and Death Busters.
I always find Sailor Moon finale's to be a lot darker in content than early in the series, and this one is no acception. If you scare easy, there are some scary scenes which take place within the evil walls of Maugen Academy. Its really the whole atmosphere the episodes have. You get a real sense that the Silence is coming.
As a Moonie, I may be showing bias, but this DVD is excellent! All the things you love about Sailor Moon are in this finale. The show has the ability to make you laugh, cry and to hum Japanese songs in your head all day. (The DVD includes the Japanese theme tune Moonlight Densetsu and the closing theme Tuxedo Mirage). If you think you might buy it and never watch it more than once, you are probably wrong! If you aren't much of a Sailor Moon fan, again I say buy it, and I promise you will be!

Cleo From 5 to 7 - Criterion Collection
Released in DVD by Criterion Collection (16 May, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Agnès Varda
Starring: Corinne Marchand
Agnes Varda, the lone woman in the French New Wave boys' club, made her reputation with her second feature Cleo from 5 to 7, a 90-minute drama set in real time exploring the internal turmoil of a flighty young pop singer who awaits the results of a medical examination for cancer. Leaving behind her elegant, almost antiseptic apartment for the bustle of the Parisian streets, she weaves through crowds and watches street performers while struggling with her fears and self-recriminations, confronting her shortcomings and finding hope in a chance meeting with a young soldier. Varda captures the vibrant social world and its easy rhythms in creamy black and white with smooth long takes, bringing an almost tactile quality to Cleo's personal odyssey, punctuated with chapter titles marking the time until her appointment at the hospital. Corinne Marchand's Cleo enters as a spoiled adolescent, but introspective internal monologues and brief encounters with strangers etch a portrait of a woman hiding her fears under a façade of flightiness, only discarding the mask when she firmly embraces life in the face of possible death. --Sean Axmaker
Average review score:

One of my favorites of all time.
It's odd, I know, to call a film charming when its focus is about a woman's two hours of waiting before finding out if she has cancer. But "Cleo" isn't a sad story about cancer, really. It's a charming story about how to live your life somewhere between the superficial and profound when something alarming happens.

Cleo's a pop singer. She sings light ditties that get French radio play. She spends her time shopping for hats, hanging out in cafes, carrying on meaningless-if-romantic affairs with songwriters. She's beautiful. She's fashionable. On the surface, she looks like she's having a good time. And she usually is.

This movie's about what she did in the two hours before receiving her prognosis from her doctor. Should she just go on and live life as if nothing's come along to trouble her? If she chooses to, how does she go about confronting her own mortality?

Corinne Marchand, as Cleo, chooses both paths for her. As she wanders the streets of Paris, she plays Cleo as though she's unable to decide whether to be happy-go-lucky. Thus, the lush, beautiful film by Agnes Varda is both light and resonant, fun and meaningful.

It's like an "Amelie" that will make you cry as well as laugh.

Done in a style predating the French New Wave, it manages to be about how to go shopping when you may be about to die.

And the Criterion release is just great.

An atmosphere for each scene
totally engrosses the viewer to live the 2 hours that Cleo lives. Varda sets divided then sets up the chapters of the film into atmospheres that reveal so mouch more about our lead chararacter. I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing this film on the big screen and was awestruck afterward. The film continues to amaze me in the effect it can have in drawing you into Cleo's world. You are drawn in and watch as she makes her own personal revolution. Beautiul cinematography, wonderfully spare musical score, and great composition of scenes.

Varda's masterpiece rivals the best of Godard or Truffaut.
In my view, Agnes Varda, with the possible exception of Alain Resnais, is the most underrated French New Wave director. While not as visible a presence as either Godard, Truffaut, Chabrol or Rivette, her style was no less innovative and influential. Whereas Jules and Jim, 400 Blows, and Breathless all rank in the top 1000 on ... sales list, CLEO FROM 5 to 7 ranks #4029. Even Godard's VIVRE SA VIE ranks #3410. If you appreciate the films of Godard and Truffaut, there is no excuse for not adding Varda's masterpiece to your collection. CLEO is an absorbing character study told in real time, accompanied by a superb Michel Legrande score. Thus, I must respectfully disagree with the reviewer who, in good faith, described this film as neither "difficult" nor "intellectual." Perhaps, it is not as self-reflexive as other New Wave films, but its visual poetry is equally challenging. Likewise, I think CLEO is very different in tone from Demy's LOLA or LES BONNES FEMMES, which for me is what distguishes Varda's film from the countless other pictures made in the 60's that follow beautiful French actresses around Paris. It is serious, yet light (not in the sense of superficial), and the delicate balance the film mantains between these two tones is reflective of Varda's main virtue as a filmmaker, and what distinguishes this film from LOLA, et cetera. Varda's style is playful, without being overly inronic as I often find Godard, and warm, without falling into melodrama. Please do not mininterpret these remarks: I love all the films listed above. And yet I think CLEO FROM 5 to 7 possesses numerous virtues that make it not just another film of the French New Wave. Also, it is refreshing to hear a female voice in cinema. As as always, the Critrion transfer is superb.

The Doors Collection (Collector's Edition)
Released in DVD by Universal Studios (30 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Ray Manzarek and Rick Schmidlin
If you are a new or original fan of the Doors, this spectacular DVD should give you enough incentive to jump on the DVD bandwagon without reservation. It's quite simply the finest single audio-visual source of Doors music and history, presented with the full participation of the band's surviving members (Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, John Densmore) and featuring a variety of bonus features that will send any Doors-phile into a state of rock & roll euphoria. We're not kidding, folks--this is a must-have disc for anyone who's ever been mesmerized by Jim Morrison and the late-1960s, early-'70s rock phenomenon known as the Doors.

The primary content consists of three acclaimed films, all running about an hour long and directed by Manzarek, that give the viewer a deeper appreciation of what the Doors were all about. Not only was the band filmed in a variety of live concert settings (especially at the legendary Hollywood Bowl show, included here), but they were also precociously aware of the value of film, creating music "videos" long before MTV and taking their cue from Manzarek's mid-'60s stint as a UCLA film student. Also included are clips from several TV appearances (including a PBS interview in which Morrison predicts the future of recording technology with astounding accuracy), revealing backstage footage, and, of course, some of the most hypnotic concert performances ever filmed.

Two of Manzarek's student films (Evergreen and Induction) indicate that the keyboardist could easily have become a successful director, but fate blessed him (and us) with a future in one of America's all-time greatest rock bands. What The Doors Collection conveys more than anything is that these four young men formed a unique cohesion of talent, that they all loved and admired Jim Morrison (and still do), and that they continue to share that love--along with some conflicting recollections and amiably contrasting opinions--on a commentary track that's wise, fun-loving, and refreshingly free of drippy nostalgia. Indeed, when Manzarek uses the word "atrocious" to describe Oliver Stone's 1991 film about Morrison and the band, he's merely defending the fact that Morrison was himself a sweet, lovable young man who had a dark side--no one's denying that--but who also fronted a band that continues to unite listeners and viewers in the positive spirit of creativity and freedom of expression. --Jeff Shannon

Average review score:

I expected more but that is ok
I'm a hardcore Doors Fan and I would by this DVD anyway just to have it, the images are ok and I already have all the video tapes, I expected more interviews, new stuff, more content other them just the 3 video tapes and a quick think with krieger and other with Densmore, but if are a fan like me, buy it, if you expect anything new or supper extraordinary you won't find here, I have many bootleg videos that have much more interesting content them this DVD.

Thank you.

THE DOORS ROCK!!
I love this collection of rare live doors concerts and footage. If you love the Doors you won't be disappointed. This has interviews with the entire band and Jim Morrison. The "Soft Parade" was filmed just a few months before Jim died and is really interesting to see. There is also rare footage of Jim with his girlfriend Pamela in the film. It's very intersting and hypnotic watching Jim. He was an amazing talent we lost too soon. These videos are great!!

The Doors Collection (Collector's Edition)
The Doors - 4 guys on the same wavelength - 3 talented musicians and 1 poet with fabulous pipes - out to change the world, singing the anthem of the 1960's, Light My Fire.

This DVD has 3 separate sections: Dance on Fire, Live at the Hollywood Bowl and Soft Parade along with some interesting bonus materials. Be sure to watch at least once with the audio commentaries of Ray, Robby and John - great way to get the scoop straight from the source. (so unlike the lopsided pandering of the Oliver Stone movie that is not much more than typical biased sensationalism to entertain the hoi polloi)

The viewer is given glimpses of the 1960's and an opportunity to understand what The Doors are truly about. The DVD provides insight into The Doors as a group, as well as individually. It's a refreshing treat to watch the soft-spoken, funny side of Jim Morrison, or to see and hear what a pleasant person Ray Manzarek is, or to understand that drumming is in John Densmore's blood constantly so that he plays 'air drums' backstage, or to take in the expression of intensity and bliss (at the same time!) on Robby Krieger's face as he plays guitar. By the way, check out how the Ed Sullivan appearance really went down.

If you like The Doors, you will love this DVD. It's a definite must have. If you love The Doors, you probably already own it.

The Dirty Harry Collection (Dirty Harry/Magnum Force/The Enforcer/Sudden Impact/The Dead Pool)
Released in DVD by Warner Studios (16 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Starring: Clint Eastwood
Five--count 'em, five--chances to wallow in the shoot-first, ask-questions-later ethos of San Francisco cop Harry Callahan, who became a signature character for actor Clint Eastwood. The first one, Dirty Harry, is the best, a Don Siegel film in which Harry flouts rules about police brutality to capture a serial killer. In Magnum Force he tracks rogue cops and utters his "Do you feel lucky, punk?" speech. In The Enforcer he gets a female partner (future Cagney and Lacy star Tyne Daly). Sudden Impact featured him tracking a female serial killer and offered a new catch phrase: "Go ahead. Make my day." And The Dead Pool, aside from offering a smart little chase involving a radio-controlled model car, brought him face to face with Liam Neeson. You can't ask for much more firepower in one box than this. --Marshall Fine
Average review score:

well do ya punk
I still think they call him "dirty" for other reasons. Shoot first and ask questions later and who the hell cares if he didn't have a gun. Scum like that should be shot if they go up against Harry Callahan. This was made 31 years ago. God I am old.

Great movie but.....
I would buy the DVD set if it wasn't widescreen. I for one don't like widescreen because of the black spaces at the bottom & top. If the disk has standard on one side & widescreen on the other I would buy it.

Clint Has Yet Another One Liner. This Time In A Documentary.
"Sometimes It's Best To Leave A Good Thing Alone" says Eastwood, one of the most popular actors to walk the Earth, When asked if another sequel should be made to this series. He's as wise as he is gifted. Everyone is dying for another Dirty Harry but I've seen so many poor sequels in my life. Yes, They could probably make a good one, But Eastwood has a point. He is Dirty Harry and knows that character better than anyone (Excluding whoever invented the most popular film detective). He's lived a long life and has all those experiences to reflect upon. In other words, He's Smart. That documentary is found right here on this DVD set. There are a moderate amount of bonus features which make this worth buying as well as the five movies. If you are reading this you probably know how good the movies found here are, All worthwhile, But some are better than others. You be the judge on that. Cheers.

Sailor Moon S - Heart Collection II: TV Series, (Vols. 3 & 4- Uncut)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (10 April, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Junichi Sato
Professor Tomoe continues his campaign to steal the hearts of the pure to gain the power to rule the world. Standing in his way are Serena and her friends Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako in Japanese), the Sailor Scouts. Michiru and the cross-dressing Haruka (Sailors Neptune and Uranus) are seeking the three heart crystals needed to prevent world disaster. Chad, who adores Raye, volleyball star Jamie, who loves Mina, and Serena's Darren/Tuxedo Moon take some heavy abuse from Tomoe's assistant Kaorinite and her shape-shifting demons, although the Scouts save them in the proverbial nick of time. These generally innocuous adventures take a nasty turn in the two-part story that comprises episodes 12 and 13. Haruka is willing to watch Serena die because her heart may contain one of the sought-after crystals. The Scouts destroy Kaorinite on Tokyo Tower, with some help from Haruka and Michiru. But Haruka's icy amorality makes her endorsement of Serena's "if we all work together, no one will have to be sacrificed" rhetoric ring hollow. She seems at least as villainous as Kaorinite--whom Tomoe casually replaces with Yujial, the villain for the next episodes. Episodes: 8. "The Labyrinth of Water! Ami the Targeted," 9. "Save Friends! Moon and Uranus Join Forces," 10. "The Kindness of a Man! Yuichiro, Heartbroken by Rei?" 11. "Retire from the Sailor Soldiers? Minako's Concerns," 12. "Usagi in Terror! Glass Shoes for Her Birthday," 13. "The Pure Heart Stolen! Usagi's Biggest Crisis." Rated 13 and up for violence and brief nudity. Edited editions--which play on the Cartoon Network--are available on video. --Charles Solomon

Very Enjoyable Series But With Some Problems
This is the third Sailor Moon series. It's about teenaged girls with magical powers who fight evil forces that threaten the world. In the S series, they fight humans who have been possessed by demons and forced to steal people's pure hearts in order to bring their master, Pharoah 90, into our universe. The Outer Senshi were introduced in this series: Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto (though she had appeared in a few episodes of the R series). They're awesome. The original Japanese version is the best (more mature), but the English dub is also provided. Apparently, Cloverway had dubbed all of the dialogue, so you'll be able to hear English lines on here that you hadn't heard on Cartoon Network. Still, the English dub is censored and dumbed down. It's also incredibly inconsistent. Attack names (and even some transformation phrases) constantly change. Names of important objects in the series change also. Amara (Haruka) and Michelle (Michiru) are turned into "cousins", and that "fact" is constantly shoved down our throats. Still, listening to the English audio track while watching the uncensored video will provide some (unintended) laughs. I recommend watching an episode in Japanese with English subtitles first and then watching it in English. It's like getting two different series - 12-14 episodes per disc instead of 6-7. I do have some complaints. First, they used only the final version of the opening theme for all of the episodes. In the original, the new characters were added to the theme over the course of the series as they were introduced. On these DVDs, characters that haven't appeared in episodes yet are in the opening theme. That is not the way it originally aired, and it ruins the surprises. Also, on my computer monitor, there's a fuzzy line at the top of the screen during the opening theme in every episode. That means that the theme was spliced in. Were they too lazy to put the English credits over each version of the opening theme? Why did they have to put English credits there at all, anyway? They could have put them in the closing credits. I don't like the new English voice actors for Moon, Mercury, and Venus, but at least the original Mars is back! I also like Rini's new voice actor. I still think that Rini's an annoying character, though. The next episode previews were not included. The only extras are profiles on some of the Senshi/Scouts and some of the earlier opening themes from the S series. The DVD covers are reversible, so you can pick your favorite characters to be displayed. All in all, these 38 (or 76) episodes form a great story and are worth buying.

Sailor Moon S series DVDs - good overall
[You people have a weird habit. You vote bad on my good reviews, and good on my bad reviews. Is it brain damage? If you have brain damage, you shouldn't be a review critic.]

For those of you who don't know, Sailor Moon is an anime series about a group of girls with the ability to transform into warriors so that they can battle the forces of evil. It sounds like something that's been done to death, but this series pulls it off nicely. Each episode of the series contains a good deal of dramatic action, with some comedy thrown in to make the series a bit more appealing. Originally it was intended for pre-teenage girls in Japan, but it has drawn in fans from many age groups and nationalities. The series began airing in America as early as 1995, but the episodes were horribly edited, and the dialogue was butchered. The poor time slot didn't help things ever, and eventually it vanished without a trace, until it was picked up by the Cartoon Network, which aired several new episodes, but these suffered the same flaws as their early North American predecessors. But at long last, Pioneer has created the solution to the problem - DVDs of the series, in all their original uncut glory. And what better place to start releasing DVDs than the S Saga, which was by far the best set of episodes?

Now on to the DVD itself. You get 6 episodes, which you can view in English or Japanese (if you choose the latter, subtitles have been provided.) There are also some minor extras, such as a gallery with info on Sailor Jupiter. In the episodes, they even left in the eyecatcher sequences!Unfortunately, these DVDs have some flaws. First and foremost, lack of extras. These character galleries are pretty cool, but I would've liked to see something like interviews with people who worked on the series. Also, THE INTRO IS WRONG! The S Series has three intros, and this is the third one. It should be the second one (In the second intro, Sailor Chibi Moon does not appear.) USING THE WRONG INTRO SPOILS SOME SURPRISES! In addition, the next episode previews are not here (though oddly enough, the daily episode previews are.)

Overall this is an excellent DVD release for an excellent anime series. Contrary to popular belief, THIS DVD IS NOT OVERPRICED. It is slightly longer than most standard episode DVDs, so the slght price increase shouldn't be a problem. Fans of the original uncut Sailor Moon series, I strongly recommend you buy this item.

Sailor Moon S Heart Collection II
My fav. episode in this one was Retire from the Sailor Soldier!?
Minako's Concerns. You learn a lot about Mina because you never really know she loves volleyball. But I loved Rei's episode. Everything you want to know about Rei and Chad is here. Sailor Mars and Venus are stars in this DVD. One of the most exciting things is that at the very end, you see Eugeal, but only her face shadow. It's really mysterious, and later you find out she's the most violent witch. I really do love this movie, and if I had a choice, I would give this 10 stars. This is probably my favorite movie!! If you notice this, Venus' Love Me Chain is the most used attack in the S Season. GET THIS 1!!

Boooring!
I've seen this piece of work on the laserdisc, and although the graphics are better than "Beyond the Mind's Eye," which is the only other one that I've seen, overall, it was quite a letdown. I expected better music from Thomas Dolby. This could work well as a background piece, but it's definitely not as entertaining as "Beyond."

Awesome animation DEMO!
This is a masterpiece of computer animation! A real crowd pleaser! It also has a fantastic soundtrack written and performed by the famous rock performer/composer "Mr. Thomas Dolby". You will be consumed by the picture and sound of this video. This title looks terriffic on a large screen. A MUST for your collection!

A winner!
Based on the other reviews I thought I'd give this a chance - and
I'm glad I did. The music is fantastic - I would enjoy owning this DVD for the audio alone. It's not recorded in 5.1 or DTS -
however it you have a Prologic II receiver - the sounds are seperated nicely, and the affect is almost as good as 5.1 audio.
The animation flows extremely well with the music, and like most individuals who enjoy this kind of entertainment - it sends your mind in flight to the heights of imagination. Strongly recommended!!
