Savage Garden: The Video Collection
Released in DVD by Sony/Columbia (29 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Nigel Dick and Adolfo Doring
How refreshing it is to discover a video collection that relies on nothing except the music--no interviews, no biographical material, no promos, just five tasty tunes presented in a clean, concise 21 minutes. So it is with Savage Garden: The Video Collection, which offers the best of the Australia-based group's mid- to late-'90s output. Released in 1998, the package includes the hits "I Want You," "To the Moon and Back," and "Truly Madly Deeply" (with lovely, sepia-toned Parisian locations), as well as "Break Me Shake Me" and "Tears of Pearls"; none of them were commercially available prior to the release of this set. Heartthrob singer Darren Hayes takes center stage most of the time, joined by longtime musical partner Daniel Jones and their other, unidentified bandmates. Given the absence of extra frills, it's up to the music to carry the proceedings--and Savage Garden's does. --Sam Graham

You must buy this!
I am a huge Savage Garden fan, and the videos in this are just brilliant, with some great shots of Darren & Daniel! If you aren't a Savage Garen fan, and didn't really like the Affirmation album YOU SHOULD STILL BUY THIS or at least listen to their 1st album. It is so different to their 2nd album, there is something in there for everybody, and the videas are so great! I love it!! The "best thing" you could ever find!!

A big thankyou to Savage Garden.

Night and Fog - Criterion Collection
Released in DVD by Criterion Collection (24 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Alain Resnais
Starring: Michel Bouquet
Though only a short subject, this groundbreaking documentary remains one of the most influential and powerful explorations of the Holocaust ever made. Director Alain Resnais bluntly presents an indictment not only of the Nazis but of the world community, and the film is all the more remarkable for its harsh judgment considering the time in which it was made, less than a decade after the end of the war, when questions of responsibility were not yet being addressed. Juxtaposing archival clips from the concentration camps across Germany and Poland with the present-day denials of the camps' existence, the film seeks to once and for all expose the horrifying truth of the Final Solution, as well as to address the continuing anti-Semitism and bigotry that existed long after the war's end. An invaluable resource and testament to history, this film was a profound influence on all films to address issues of the Holocaust, from Judgment at Nuremberg and Shoah to Schindler's List. Night and Fog remains an essential and indispensable document of the 20th century. --Robert Lane
Average review score:

I'm still speechless
One of my professors showed us this film as part of his history lecture today, and all the images and realities. The images are so haunting, you hear about the events of the holocaust, and you learn somewhat about it in high school, but when you see this film and the pictures of wait happened, you just cant believe it. this is the first time ive been truely speechless after viewing a movie, and for one that is only 1/2 hour long, that truely is an accomplishment.

A film that needs to be seen
Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a film that needs to be seen by as many people as possible. This documentary short is more an essay on the nature of man than an exploration of the Holocaust.

Shot in simple black and white and vivid color the film blends a past and present view of the horror of Nazi Germany like no other film I've ever seen. A simple voiceover guides us on a tour of the concentration camps a mere ten years after their liberation. The images are haunting and graphic. The most startling commentary comes at the end of the narration. We are warned that the spector of war is always present, always lurking and that if we are not careful and do not remember the past the horror could return at any moment.

This is a Criterion DVD with relatively few extras. However the viewer does not need extras to feel the mind numbing impact of this film. Provided are a short excerpt from a Renais audio interview in 1994 and crew biographies compiled by Peter Cowie. There is also a music only soundtrack.

brilliant and moving
Not to be missed. This should be required viewing for everyone. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. My god, let's hope not.

Brilliant mix of post war camp footage & stunning, horrific footage taken when the camps were liberated.

Sailor Moon S - Heart Collection III: TV Series, Vols. 5 & 6 (Uncut)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (12 June, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Junichi Sato
Average review score:

Very Enjoyable Series But With Some Problems
This is the third Sailor Moon series. It's about teenaged girls with magical powers who fight evil forces that threaten the world. In the S series, they fight humans who have been possessed by demons and forced to steal people's pure hearts in order to bring their master, Pharoah 90, into our universe. The Outer Senshi were introduced in this series: Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Pluto (though she had appeared in a few episodes of the R series). They're awesome. The original Japanese version is the best (more mature), but the English dub is also provided. Apparently, Cloverway had dubbed all of the dialogue, so you'll be able to hear English lines on here that you hadn't heard on Cartoon Network. Still, the English dub is censored and dumbed down. It's also incredibly inconsistent. Attack names (and even some transformation phrases) constantly change. Names of important objects in the series change also. Amara (Haruka) and Michelle (Michiru) are turned into "cousins", and that "fact" is constantly shoved down our throats. Still, listening to the English audio track while watching the uncensored video will provide some (unintended) laughs. I recommend watching an episode in Japanese with English subtitles first and then watching it in English. It's like getting two different series - 12-14 episodes per disc instead of 6-7. I do have some complaints. First, they used only the final version of the opening theme for all of the episodes. In the original, the new characters were added to the theme over the course of the series as they were introduced. On these DVDs, characters that haven't appeared in episodes yet are in the opening theme. That is not the way it originally aired, and it ruins the surprises. Also, on my computer monitor, there's a fuzzy line at the top of the screen during the opening theme in every episode. That means that the theme was spliced in. Were they too lazy to put the English credits over each version of the opening theme? Why did they have to put English credits there at all, anyway? They could have put them in the closing credits. I don't like the new English voice actors for Moon, Mercury, and Venus, but at least the original Mars is back! I also like Rini's new voice actor. I still think that Rini's an annoying character, though. The next episode previews were not included. The only extras are profiles on some of the Senshi/Scouts and some of the earlier opening themes from the S series. The DVD covers are reversible, so you can pick your favorite characters to be displayed. All in all, these 38 (or 76) episodes form a great story and are worth buying.

The Rabbit Comes Back From the 30thCentury ChibiUsa
This a good DVD. ChibiUsa comes back from the 30th century to become a Sailor Senshi. ChibiUsa real name is Usagi, but they call her ChibiUsa cause shes small. Here are the epsisodes that are on the DVD.
The arrival of the tiny pretty Solider.
Speaking Friends Chibi Moons Actions.
The Bond of Destiny The Distant Days of Uranus.
Art is an explosion of Love ChibiUsa's first love
Usagi's Dance in time to a waltz.
Oh yeah if you want to see Sailor Stars on tv go to WWW.Sailor Moon Petitionhomestead.com for Sailor Stars to be on TV. Ive every episode on DVD and VHS, and this is my favorite show and im 17years old.

For Haruka and Michiru...mostly Michiru
ok really wasn't going to write a review for this since it's unnecessary, but this disc did contain one of the most critical haruka and michiru (uranus and neptune) episodes. unlike most fans of sailor moon, i was not caught in the whole craze when it was first brought over to the US and thus did not see the dubbed version of BSSM. Perhaps this was luck but reading about the controversy of the dubbed SM years later i can say that it is very disappointing to see the way dubbing companies handled the relationship between Haruka and Michiru who, in my most humble opinion, happen to be one of the sweetest and graceful couples to ever grace the tv screen. They were cousins?! I mean best friends would have been understandable but cousins?! However, Pioneer did do something good in releasing the original uncut version of Sailor Moon, which is far superior to the dubbed.

The Ricky Martin Video Collection
Released in DVD by Sony/Columbia (29 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Ricky Martin's bravura, swivel-hipped performance of "The Cup of Life" at the 41st annual Grammy Awards handily stole the spotlight from the evening's platinum-edged superstars, positioning him as poster boy for a Latin pop crossover boom that dominated media for months to follow. Like most "overnight" sensations (or, for that matter, "brand new" pop trends), Martin's impact was actually the payoff for an extended apprenticeship: anything but a novice, this Puerto Rican native was already a major star in the Spanish-speaking pop realm, having graduated from his early stint as a plump-cheeked member of Menudo to become a sleek heartthrob.

With his chiseled features, flashing smile, and sinuous physical presence, Martin can't be blamed for playing to his female fans, and these video clips do just that. The sequence for Martin's breakout English hit, "Livin' La Vida Loca" (also included in a Spanish version) offers a template of sorts: footage of Martin performing the song in a nightclub setting is interspersed with location shots of the singer and the siren he's singing about, stitched together with rapid cuts and swirling camera movement that echo the percolating rhythms. Elsewhere, on "She's All I Ever Had," Martin downshifts to the role of earnest balladeer. The objects of his affection are typically drop-dead gorgeous (and, in one instance, teasingly undraped), and the undercurrent of sex approximates the sort of glossy perfection you'd expect from lingerie or perfume ads.

The cover-boy route is probably inevitable for Martin, but his vitality is hard to dismiss, especially during the final song--the same live Grammy performance that put him on global pop radar. That joyous appearance confirms that Martin doesn't need supermodel costars or retakes to heat things up. --Sam Sutherland

Great quality
Nice collection of Ricky's recent-ish/popular videos! The visual and audio sound quality is excellent. My only complaint is that I wish there were MORE videos on this disc (I felt it was a little short). However, if you are a long-time Ricky fan like me, you will enjoy.

fresh angularity
these performances document the fresh angularity of movement and originality in reality art that ricky brings to the otherwise world of ordinary pop offerings.the spanish world has enjoyed his many hits for years and the english market should always take notice of better product,

THE CRAZIEST MOST WONDERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD
I was so amazed to see this hunk move in front of me. It was the closest and most intimate time that I have ever spent with Ricky. I am sure that any Ricky fan or non Ricky fan will enjoy.

This is #1. BUY IT

The Slayers Next Collection (Episodes 27-52)
Released in DVD by CENTRAL PARK MEDIA (07 November, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Slayers Next
Average review score:

Top of the Line Swords & Sorcery
The whole of the Slayers series is built to be more fun and funny than any other anime series that actually involves a plot. Slayers Next (season 2) is the fulfillment of that goal, with infinitely more character development than the original series (season 1) and a far more even storytelling keel than Slayers Try (season 3). The end of the Next storyline is powerful and beautiful without disrupting the flow of the world-building. Their silly "we need to take a break from the drama" episodes in the middle of the series are, as mentioned, fairly even-keeled and continue to flesh out the characters (unlike those in Slayers Try, which were fun and silly, but little else).

This isn't to say that the rest of the Slayers stock is bad -- it's not, they're a whole lot of fun -- it's just that Slayers Next is the best what the Slayers universe has to offer.

Of course, I'm also of the opinion that Slayers Next is the overall single best season of anime available on DVD, perfectly blending character consistency, Camus-style existentialism (which is quite intense in Slayers Try), comedy and action -- even beating out the also-fantastic but not-quite-as-satisfying Trigun. (I also enjoyed Cowboy Bebop and Love Hina; Lain defies comparisons to any type of comprehensible anime, but it's still quite respectable.)

The very best of the Slayers. A must-see!
Slayers rules! This 26-episode DVD gift set is the pinacle of the series, and anime fans have to see this series which is pure gold! Even if you haven't seen the first season(like me), the current one is pretty easy to follow. This season also introduces Xellos, mysterious priest(mysterious ally is more like it), who comes in at different times to aid Lina and the group. Martina, an annoying rival for Lina, also shows up. She's a pain, but you can get used to her. This series is mostly episodic with a few fillers in between. It has a great blend of comedy, fantasy, action, romance, drama, and even has a muscial number or two thrown in for good measure. This is a great TV series, and fans have to see it to see the best adventures of Lina, Gourry, Zelgadis, and Amelia.

Can anything beat Slayers? Slayers NEXT sure did!
I've seen all three seasons of Slayers (Slayers, Slayers NEXT, and Slayers TRY). And in my opinion, NEXT is easily the best. TRY was a lot more serious (with the exception of a few REALY bizarre episodes). And Slayers was a lot sillier. NEXT blends the sillyness and seriousness excellently.

Everyone's favorite characters return with better powers, cool outfits, and hilarious situations. The introduction of Xellos and Martina (along with many others) makes this season, by far, one of the best seasons of any anime ever released.

Also recommended: Ah! My Goddess, Cowboy Bebop, DNA2, Full Metal Panic, Fushigi Yuugi, His And Her Circumstances, I My Me! Strawberry Eggs, Inu Yasha, Love Hina, Outlaw Star, Please Teacher, Ranma 1/2, Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho

Blue Seed - Perfect Collection
Released in DVD by A.D. Vision (18 June, 2002)
MPAA Rating:
Momiji Fujimiya believes she's just an ordinary Japanese teenager--until she learns that she's actually the hereditary princess Kushinada and her blood is mankind's most powerful weapon against the shape-shifting monsters the Aragami. As the centuries-old war between humanity and the Aragami is heating up, Momiji goes to Tokyo to work with the government agency fighting the monsters. She's joined by the roguish Mamoru Kusanagi: as a child he was kidnapped by a powerful Aragami and given seven souls, or mitama (symbolized by the "Blue Seed" of the title). In battle Kusanagi transforms into a werewolfish version of himself with sword blades in his forearms. He's challenged by the Jim Morrison-esque Murakomo, a servant of the Aragami lords who possesses eight mitama. The plot takes an unsettling turn with the rebirth of the god of darkness, Susano-Oh, whom Murakomo tends with Momiji's twin sister, Kaede--who died in the first episode. The adventures and romance are played against an ecological message that's wrapped in right-wing rhetoric reminiscent of the ultraconservative cabal in Gasaraki: contemporary Japanese culture is damned as "barren," "dead," and "cannibalistic". Although she tends to dither, Momiji never indulges in the whining and tantrums that make many other magical girls so annoying; the dashing Kusanagi assumes the role of protector-lover without losing his outlaw élan as Tamahome does in Fushigi Yugi. Unrated; suitable for ages 12 and up: Violence, minor profanity and sexual humor. --Charles Solomon

BEST EVER
I think that Blue Seed is 1 of the best japanese anime i ever saw. i think it has the whole package for a perfect anime. it has romance, comedy, and action packed and many other emotions or something like that. i'm also glad that this anime stays on 1 topic, not like the other ones i've seen that skip from 1 topic to another. My favorite character would have to be Momoru Kusanagi. For 1 thing hes very funny but serios at the same time. And another hes very strong and cute. i think the people who havent watched Blue Seed before, should because its very interesting and very easy to understand at first.

Blue Seed rules!
Blue Seed is an AMAZING series in many ways. I bought the first vhs volume 3 years ago and since then have enjoyed it. Although the art is usually far from perfect, that doesn't stop it from being on the list of my favorite anime ever! There are some amazing action sequences, but along with that, it will make you laugh, cry, and give you some shocking plot twists (which I will NOT spoil). The concept is X- Files meets Aliens meets your favorite sitcom (in most parts).

Parents be warned; the violence is not all that keeps this title out of the reach of young children. There are a few near-sexual situations and some panty humor. As for the better language, steer clear of the dub if you can't stand squealing heroines. I'd probably go for the sub even if that wasn't the case.

I won't reveal the plot for you, but I will tell you a few things. The leading character (no names mentioned; find out yourself) is done by a massively popular voice actress: Megumi Hayashibara. The humor fades later, and speaking of the humor, NO STUPID COMEDY CLICHES(thank GOD!).
And although the whole monster thing is a bit of a cliche, the monsters themselves are pretty original. If you want more humor later check out the 13 omake theaters.

Overall, I'd put it in the no. 2 spot on my favorite anime t.v. series list (putting it below the amazing Neon Genesis Evangelion and above the hilarious Slayers). My father even came to enjoy it, and if you LOVE anime or are a beginner, you'll adore it.

Say Hello To The Best Anime Ever!
I got this collection from my dad and I love it so much! I don't know why, but I always fall in love with anime. I have fallen in love with this anime the most! My favorite character is Mamoru Kusanagi. I like him the most because he is strong, cute, and funny. I also like kome, Momiji, and Kaede. I recommend this anime to any anime fan. I know that a lot of people like Japanesse Anime and if you do I know that you will like the Blue Seed Perfect Collection!

Red Beard - Criterion Collection
Released in DVD by Criterion Collection (16 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Featuring the final collaboration between esteemed director Akira Kurosawa (Kagemusha, The Seven Samurai) and actor Toshiro Mifune (Yojimbo, Hell in the Pacific), this 1965 film explores the complex and tumultuous relationship between a doctor and his protégé, and the meaning of compassion and responsibility. Mifune plays the title character, a revered but stern and unbendable physician ministering to the poor in a clinic, driven by a sense of calling to the profession of medicine and to mankind. He is assigned a young brash intern whose rebellious and arrogant attitude threaten to disrupt the hospital and destroy his burgeoning career. Under the intense tutelage of the relentlessly stern doctor, however, the young doctor in training goes from a spoiled wunderkind insulted at having to work at a clinic he thinks is beneath him, to one who appreciates the compassionate nature of a doctor's calling. A long, intimate, and engrossing film, it displays some of Mifune's finest work as a man whose profound sense of higher purpose touches all around him. An earnest exploration of duty and honor, Red Beard is an unlikely but worthy addition to the enduring legacy of Akira Kurosawa. --Robert Lane
Average review score:

Kurosawa introduces psychoanalysis to the Japanese
In addition to being about the relationship between the young and old doctors, "Red Beard" is Kurosawa's can-opener for the Japanese psyche, with which he gently urges very private people everywhere to recognize how many hold deep hidden suffering inside them, which makes them ill, and the value of sharing those secrets.

Again and again, the movie is about how hidden secrets make people sick, and how the old doctor can intuit the presence of these secrets and give patients some way to relieve them.

This may be considered the deep subtext of the film, beneath the coming-of-age drama that centers on the young doctor.

The film is beautiful, strikingly directed and acted, with moments that are amazing cadenzas of acting skill, where the director allows the actors to show how much they can make out of an emotion through their body-language.

It may also appear heavy-handed and obvious at times to Western viewers, who have had a hundred years of Freudian exploration of psychosomatic medicine. But if I understand the context, Kurosawa is asking many of his Japanese viewers to consider for the first time the enormous hidden harm caused by physical and sexual abuse, extreme poverty (and extreme wealth), some uses of traditional authority, patriarchial attitudes, the prideful identification with a dead aristocracy, government policies that punish the poor, broken and bruised hearts resulting from complicated and entangled relationships, resourcefully anti-social adaptations to oppression, and other dark shadows beneath the enameled glaze of contemporary Japanese complacency.

Forgive me if that sounds overstated. But watch for it just under the surface of the fllm, again and again, and increasingly as the film goes on. The film strikes me as a profound and profoundly sad social document, braced by a heroic sense that individuals can still make a difference.

It's not just, as you will read elsewhere, an uplifting story about two doctors. There is much more, and that more is a tragic vision of how people and society conspire in a dance of self-defeat, and where a caring person might try to change this.

Beautiful
This is the most beautiful movie; its more like a long dance. I was scanning the DVD slowly during a few scenes and was mesmerized by the movements. I think it took me about 5 hours to watch it the first time (yesteday). Toshiro Mifune is the finest & most versatile actor ever, and when he works with the best director ever its always magic. I've seen many of Mifune's films with and without Kurasawa. I just needed to tell someone who could appreciate why! And I agree with the reviewer who pointed out the scene when Chobo was ill and the women were looking down the well. When Otoya's teardrop fell... well, it was brilliant.

Akahige
This is simply the best film I've ever seen in my entire life. I've studied the films of Kurosawa Akira thoroughly and my opinion remains deeply rooted.

In a previous review of Akahige, one person mentioned the scene in which the the maids and Otoyo are screaming Chobo's name down the well. This person said this was the best scene. I have to disagree because it makes the viewer think too much about the camera, sucking the emotion out of the scene and replacing it with curiosity as to how the scene was filmed. This is a problem that occurs over and over and over again in the Wachowski brother's Matrix films. The viewer thinks about how it was really accomplished, not about any sort of sentimental value.

Other than that scene, which, actually, I believe is the worst scene, the movie is so great that it can hardly even be described in words alone. In fact, it can't because words and cinema are two different things. Watch this movie.

Just to give a little historical background, this is the final collaboration (made in 1965) between Kurosawa Akira (said to be the greatest director ever) and Mifune Toshiro (said to be the greatest actor ever). I'd also suggest watching the rest of Kurosawa Akira's films first, especially Drunken Angel, which happens to be the first time Kurosawa Akira and Mifune Toshiro worked together.

Kurosawa had never really been impressed by any actor/actress before he met Mifune. He claimed that Mifune could do in one movement what a normal actor would take three movements to express. He had just been discharged from the Japanese military and starred in half of Kurosawa Akira's films, which is quite a lot. After all, Kurosawa directed approximately thirty films in his lifetime, including such flicks as Sugata Sanshiro, Drunken Angel, The Seven Samurai, and Kagemusha.

So, all in all, this is the best film ever. One flaw is its length though, as other reviewers have mentioned. It's difficult to watch a three hour film over and over again due to its sheer size. I'm still collecting Kurosawa Akira's films, but no collection would be complete without Akahige.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Collection 0-6
Released in DVD by A.D. Vision (17 April, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Hideaki Anno
The new Eva Unit 03, piloted by Shinji's friend Toji, mutates during its initial test and becomes an Angel. When Shinji realizes another human being is inside the menace, he refuses to attack it. Using an override circuit, Shinji's father takes control of his Eva and rips the 03 apart. Horrified and disgusted at this brutality, Shinji quits as an Eva pilot--until a new and more powerful Angel strikes at NERV headquarters. Seeing his friends Asuka and Rei overcome, Shinji returns to defeat the deadly new foe. But his Eva goes berserk, attacking and devouring the Angel. As it grows in power, the Eva partially absorbs its pilot. Drifting through semiconsciousness, Shinji confronts memories that recur in variations, like an aria by Philip Glass. Characters in other, popular mecha series never confront these moral dilemmas. The youthful pilots in Gundam Wing adhere to a warrior code that extols heroism; they have few qualms about slaughtering their foes. Shinji knows that warfare is not a noble calling, and that causing the death of a human being is a horrifying prospect. His ambivalence about his role as a pilot forces him to analyze his troubled relationship with his remote and brutal father and how that relationship has warped his self-perception. Episodes: 18. "The Judgment of Life," 19. "A Man's Fight," 20. "Form of the Mind, Form of the Man." Not rated; suitable for ages 14 and up for robot versus robot violence, nudity, minor profanity, and sexual situations. --Charles Solomon
Average review score:

Let the beserker do the dirty work!
This is the best part of the series, however, ADV didn't do justice on the DVD either. The picture is somewhat hazy, and the English dubbing isn't up to par. The voices of the characters are kind of bland. I've seen the entire TV series on KTEH (a PBS station in San Jose). I like the Japanese version a lot better, just turn on the English subtitle and watch the entire thing. In the Japanese version when Shinji screams in terror, it makes your skin crawl.

BLEEEEEEED!
Ouch! These 3 episodes were hard to watch the first time around. They were very disturbing, because the violence was absolutely mind numbing and gory.

"The cruel angel will enter the window of your soul"
Since I have been reviewing this series one DVD at a time, it has finally occurred to me that readers are tired of being told things like 'even better,' or 'adds a whole new level.' There isn't much question but that is exactly the effect that Gainax and director Hideaki Anno intend. We have reached the stage where the mysteries will be peeled away in layers like an onion, and this isn't intended to be a 'comfortable' process.

The twin focus of these episodes is the nature of the EVA, and the still developing character of Shinji. In a sense, the series comes into its own now, shedding any remnant of the children's mecha appearance that it initially wore as a disguise. We are being drawn into a startling investigation into what is human, and what is not.

In 'The Judgement of Life' Toji Suzuhara, the fourth child, is set to testing EVA 03. But the terrible happens, and the 13th Angel (Bardiel) interferes, seizing control of the EVA. When Gendo Ikari orders Shinji to destroy the EVA the boy refuses to kill his friend. Gendo orders EVA 01 into auto pilot mode and Shinji mush watch in horror while his father forces the EVA to become a raging killer.

'A Man's Fight,' find's Shinji repelled by everything his father stands for and refuses to pilot an EVA again. He is on his way home when a new Angel (Zeruel) appears and makes short work of Rei and Asuka. Shinji forces his way back to NERV headquarters and demands to pilot EVA 01. When the Angel nearly destroys EVA 01, Shinji achieves total integration with the EVA as it develops a life of its own... as a cannibalistic killer!

'Form of the Mind, Form of the Man' finds Misato and the NERV staff desperately trying to separate Shinji self back out from the creature that EVA 01 has become. Inside, Shinji is forced to deal with all aspects of his personality as he strives to understand his own purpose.

I often see Shinji referred to as a weak character that flees from difficulty and is overly dependent on what others think of him. I have to disagree. While the boy is not a willing hero, he has proved repeatedly that he will do what has to be done with his own sense of ethics. Considering his age, and the enormous responsibility he bears, I think he does extremely well. With a father who is always either cold or abusive, Shinji's need for approval is more than understandable.

As I've already indicated, these are pivotal episodes, intense and compelling. Entirely rewarding.

Sailor Moon Super S - Pegasus Collection III
Released in DVD by Geneon Entertainment (11 June, 2002)
MPAA Rating:
Director: Junichi Sato
These episodes follow the pattern set at the beginning of the Super S continuity: the members of the evil Amazon Trio (Fish-Eye, Tigers-Eye, and Hawks-Eye) search for the "mirror of beautiful dreams" that contains the Pegasus, which will enable them to capture the magical animal. They attack a fashion designer, a young soccer player, a stern old woman, a ballet instructor, and Scouts Mina and Amy. Each time, the Sailor Scouts defeat a monstrous "Remless" with the help of Tuxedo Mask and the Pegasus. In episode 16 Serena (Usagi) and fellow Scouts Amy, Raye, Lita, and Mina (Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako in Japanese) discover that Rini (Chibiusa) has a special bond with the Pegasus, and that the winged unicorn can give them the power to metamorphose into their Super forms, but for some reason, they don't act on that knowledge. Rated 13 Up: Violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

SAILOR MOON SUPER S
If you are a new fan to sailor moon and japanese anime cartoons, let me fill you in on the deal. Sailor moon is about a 15 year old girl named usagi who is incharge of pretecting the world so that she may someday become the queen of the moon. It might sound weird now but let me tell you, the show is definitely worth a look. Anyways, this dvd was the first I bought and it most definitely acceeded my expectations. This dvd opens up with the story of the fashion designer and his dream stealer fish eye. In this episode we find out fish eye is really a guy and that the U.S. dub can not hide the fact o.0 but the most exighting episode on this dvd is the one showing the four inner scouts transformation into super sailor scouts. Hope this was helpful and I hope you don't just take my word for it, you check this show out ^-^
