One Star For Ash
This "Twister" knock-off doesn't really offer much as everyone's favorite ghoul-killer plays it straight, chases storms, and seeks a little romance. It is great to watch Campbell in something other than a supporting role, but this is a TV cheapie. On the plus side is a strong supporting cast that includes Ernie Hudson (as Campbell's mentor).

The DVD image is full-screen and nothing to write home about. There are no extras.

So, I guess this one is for people who love Ash, couldn't watch "Twister" because of some dislike for Helen Hunt, or just buy anything with a special effect. Now when will "Atomic Twister" get released?

Wow..lol
Azien...where in the world did you see an F100? That meso must have been at least twenty miles wide...hehe=)

Enjoyable film, L.Q. is best!
There were some flaws in this video, as some of the other interviewers have mentioned, but I enjoyed it. There were alot of parallels in the script to "Twister" and the acting was okay.
For L.Q. Jones fans, it's a must. He got away from his tough, mean roles and did a great job as a sweet but wise grandpa in this film.

the stupidest film ever!
Don't buy this worthless piece of garbage!
not only is it a sham and crock of
balogna...but the acting is terrible...

from the top with the Natasha dfljdfjs
all the way to Janne campbell...
I mean, were these women ever taught how to act,
at all? I suggest not putting your money down for this
movie or even wasting time watching it...
It is as boring as looking at your foot.

Kinski is sexy when aged
its about Kinski whos married and a buisnesswoman to Jeff Fahey([*** of a ***]in this movie). Kinski sorta has her fling with Josh Holloway and he wont leave her alone, when Holloway stares dead on its creepy, man he is creepy. highlights would be Kinski's nude scenes defenitly, ohh my godess

My Wife Thinks I'm Trying to Run Off With Hudson Leick...
Okay, so I'm hooked. I just don't get enough performances out of my fave star. It's just not my fault. This quirky film treats us to some new twists of some old games. Did somebody say "Murder?" Even the missus liked this psychological thriller (she always likes films where the protagonist is slowly driven insane). Jeff Fahey (the Lawnmower Man himself) and Nastassia Kinski (Cat People)also deliver the goods. Hey, I think I'll go re-watch my DVD right now.

Planet Earth - Australia

Disappointed
While I personally, very much appreciate and enjoy the spectacular images of earth as photographed from space, I would also have appreciated, indeed expected, intelligent and expert commentary. My children were bored to tears after ten minutes, as were the adults. I had this feeling that we were somehow "stuck" in a preview mode of the overall program. True, the soundtrack is both soothing, and well matched to the visual. But the absence of commentary soon makes you feel as though you're listening to the sort of trendy, cosmic whatever that you might hear in,...well, your dentist's office. Bummer.

Possibly will grow on me
Stimulating- yes, brilliant and beautiful- definitely. But understand you are not going to have a particularly "Australian" experience with this DVD. The images are shot from so high that unless you have spent a lot of time in planetary orbit, there is precious little to really identify anything of where you are. A quite nice aussie theme soundtrack sets the mood, although smooth jazz with added didjeridoo sounds a little silly at times.

The visuals were created by a drifting magnification over high-tech still images- like scanning Landsat posters with binoculars from across a room. This presentation technique is intriguing but becomes a little unnerving at length, like viewing abstract art. The let's-figure-out-what-we're-looking-at feeling intrudes for me.

However, allowances for the fact that there is a particular intent with this unique presentation. And it IS amazing to see the beauty of the planet beyond the scale of recognizable surface detail.

On DVD playback, a nice little feature of hitting the menu button anytime for a description and stats on any particular view helps somewhat. I wonder if more could have been done with familiar imagery here to dimensionalize the whole experience.

On DVD ROM playback some interactability and the above info continually onscreen, but with the images unfortunately also shrunk way down to accomodate.

A response to esstee's review
Thanks for the nice review. One comment though. All of the NASA images used on the Planet Earth series are available for viewing on any DVD-Video player or DVD-ROM computer. On a DVD-Video player just press the MENU button any time you see an image on screen you like. This will take you to a detail screen for that image. If you want to see a full screen version of that image just press the UP arrow and the screen will now show the original NASA image in the best resolution that a DVD-Video player can display. Pressing the MENU key again returns you to the frame of video where you left off.

Higher resolution versions of each image are also available to users that have DVD-ROM drives, but it is important to note that all DVD-Video player users have access to the same images that DVD-ROM users do, and at the highest level of quality possible on a DVD player.

Thanks

Angel Links - Fallen Angel (Vol. 2)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (05 June, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
As this inane sci-fi jiggle series continues, attention shifts briefly from Meifon Li, the billionaire owner of a space protection service, to her personal assistant Kosei Hida. Despite his effete appearance, Kosei is quite the lady's man, but an ill-starred romance with the pirate Jesia ends before it really gets started in "The Rain upon the Stars." The remaining two episodes deal with how Meifon inherited two things from her grandfather: a staggering fortune and a vendetta against pirates in general and the pirate Goryu in particular. That vendetta may bring her into conflict with her fabulously wealthy suitor, Lem Lau. The storytelling in these adventures is weak at best, with the tone vacillating between silly--a spaceship crew who want to end an adventure early so they'll be on time for their reservation at a posh restaurant--to the ineffectually dramatic: Meifon casually fires a super-weapon that wounds or kills scores of innocent people. However, the real focus of the series is Meifon's redoubtable figure. Every garment she owns features a plunging neckline, and Taffei, an alien cat-bat combination who turns into a sword when needed, resides in her cleavage. Rated 13 Up for nudity, sexual situations, and violence. --Charles Solomon

Angel Links is getting better
I reviewed Angel Links Vol. 1 Before and here is my review for vol. 2. I believe that the series is starting to get better as I watch each episode! The first episode deals more with Kosei who begins to fall for a pirate named Jesia who he meets after a battle. The next two episode deals with Mefion and more of her past. We learn more of her grandfather and how she came to be a pirate fighter. We also learn more about Lem Lou, but I will not go any further as I do not with to ruin it for anyone who does decide to buy, rent or borrow this dvd. I gave it 3 stars in this review, but I actually wish to give it 3 and 1/2 stars but the review system won't let me.

Mediocre, but perhaps a bit better than volume 1
This second disc (of 4) of Angel Links marks an improvement over the first. The focus of attention is happily less on the heroine's ridiculously large chest and more on what's going on around her. If you haven't seen the first volume (which is the proper place to start), Angel Links is the story of a pirate-hunting company run by 16-year old Meifon Li. This disc contains episodes 4, 5, and 6 of this show, which is a mediocre space adventure show.

Episode 4 is by far the best episode. It focuses on Kosei, the second in command, and reveals him as an accidental playboy, besieged by interested women. The next episode reveals the origins of Meifon's work upon the death of her grandfather. The last on this disc ventures into the mysterious past that's slowly being revealed about Meifon. The big improvement here is Kosei, who becomes a likeable character and elevates the show. That said, it's hard to really recommend Angel Links. It isn't notably bad in any way (although the English dub actress for Meifon was poorly cast), but it isn't especially good. I'm buying it because it is getting better and I like the genre.

One last content note: although nothing is really shown, on this one disc Meifon takes two showers on-screen for no apparent purpose. So beware if this offends you.

MAJOR improvement over volume 1
After watching the first volume of Angel Links, I was not expecting much, but the show really picks up with the start of this volume. Gave me new hope for this series. If you have bought the first disc, and are on the fence about buying more, trust me, it gets much better.

Badness of customer service of Bandai is thought to be sad.
From Japan.
I think that I am disappointed.
I purchased a DVD the other day.
So, there is a error.
I can not play this one halfway.
When I play this DVD.
Episode 12 Part A
The DVD stopped after 9:00 minute.
Then, I got a new same DVD(ANGEL LINKS 4 ETERNAL ANGEL).
But, same error happened.
I think that this error is MASTERING-Error.
When seeing the back side of DVD, there seems to be a thin stripe.
Of course,I try some DVD-Drive and DVD-Player and Some Computer and OS.
The DVD-Drive which I am using is the following.
*PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD114-F
*TOSHIBA SD-R2002
*HITACHI GD-7500
The DVD-Player which I am using is the following drive.
*Win DVD2000
*Microsoft Movie Player
*Matrox DVD Player
*Other DVD Player Soft
I purchased it in December, 2001.
I made contact with the customer service many times.
But, a definite answer doesn't come all the more.
This DVD is a good anime.
I surely want to see it.
Badness of customer service of Bandai is thought to be very sad.
It is even more disappointing because it is a good anime.

W-O-W! *Spoilers*
Angel Links DVD #4 contains the most dramatic ending episodes since Sorcerer Hunter's ending episodes. Meifon is emotionally distressed over the truth she is an android with only one purpose---revenge! She tries to live normally after disbanding the Angel Links group, but she goes crazy one night and breaks everything she bought. She then goes back to the Angel Links and announces that she's going into the final battle alone. But she has no idea she only has one month to live...

The battles, the high emotional situations made me cry and sit at the edge of my seat until the end. The final moment of the series is terribly sad yet true. Meifon tells an old lady that if she could be reborn, she would be reborn as a cat. Then, we see her lying naked under the covers under her bed as the clock reads midnight. An angel feather lands on her as she smiles in her "sleep". This "sleep" can be translated as two things: Either her one month was up and she's dead or she's alive. Personally, I think the writers were trying to make her death emotional while keeping the fans thinking about the possibilites of what happened to her.

Even if you haven't seen Angel Links (I've only bought volume 1 and 4) the emotion content and action is WELL worth the buy. If you want a good cry (if you're the sensitive type :p ) and some good action, this DVD is well worth it. Bravo to a beautiful ending to a poor start.

Avalanche
Released in DVD by New Concorde Home Video (25 September, 2001)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Corey Allen
Average review score:

Typical Roger Corman fare.
With Roger Corman's name attached to a movie, you know what you are likely to get. "Avalanche" features half-hearted performances, poor lighting and sound, minimal plot, ... "special effects" and some of the choppiest editing known to mankind. In fact, the only thing this dud is good for is a couple of unintentionally hysterical moments. The plot involves a newly built resort in Durango, Colorado. The owner is warned that he is in danger of triggering an avalanche because he is cutting down a lot of trees on a hillside. Characters are grossly underdeveloped and the film really goes nowhere. I advise you to stay clear of this one unless you are a Roger Corman fan.

Hard to look away
The title says the tale. It is a forgone conclusion that ice and snow will fall, but the plots and subplots are intriguing. Albeit the special effects aged, but the cast is superb, I really enjoyed this film.

Embryo
Released in DVD by Passport Video (26 December, 2000)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)

Embryo / DVD
Shame on Passport Video. My VHS Tapes look better than this DVD. The transfer looks to be off someones 6 hour tape. What a waste. I'll think twice before I purchase another Passport Video.

An interesting movie about the dangers of cloning
I have seen Embryo twice on television and I have enjoyed it both times. It is an interesting drama with a touch of science that presents the dangers of cloning, which is quite a futuristic view since the movie was released in only 1975, decades before "Dolly", the cloned sheep. For the most part, it is scientifically sound and is an original concept for a movie.

Rock Hudson stars as the doctor who finds an injured dog on the road and takes it home to nurse back to health. The doctor has been working on advanced growth formulae, however, and is able to regenerate (or clone) the dog within a matter of weeks. He is thrilled with his success and decides to make the giant leap to cloning a human. Not only does this intrigue the viewer, but introduces an eerie and suspenseful feeling about what is going to happen, especially when his "cloned" dog has an encounter with a small white dog (you'll have to see the movie to find out what happens here).

His "cloned" human is a girl named Victoria, nicely played by Barbara Carrera. Within days she is a beautiful, fully-grown adult with the remarkable ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge. She becomes very close to the doctor and helps him with his research. Then, near the end of the movie, something goes terribly wrong. It shows how an experiment can take a turn for the worse and is a warning to the limits of human testing. You will definitely have to watch the end of the movie to understand what I mean.

Embryo is successful as both a drama and pseudo-science movie. It was merely by chance that I watched it on T.V., but I'm glad I did because it was well worth it. The acting by Hudson and Carrera is well done, but I think the story idea itself makes this movie good. I recommend this movie to anyone who has an open mind to science and the future.

The Stepdaughter
Released in DVD by Vidmark/Trimark (16 January, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Peter Liapis

Pass this one by unless you're a die-hard fan
It is difficult to summarize this movie without explaining the entire plot in one or two sentences. There is a small twist at the end that differentiates it from others, but this is so minor and comes so late it is difficult to accept or care. Essentially, we are treated to an opening that introduces us to Susan Heller (played by Andrea Roth, who despite being in movies such as this has quiet a following online) who stumbles into the lives of a ranching family when his car "breaks down". She manages to win the trust of the husband (played by Gil Gerard - yes, Buck Rogers himself - who shows us all just how low you can sink) and gets a job. However, the sister does not believe her (as the formula dictates) from the very beginning, and sets out to discover the truth behind Susan.

Great Thriller!
After being released from a mental institution, a woman with anger problems tracks down her birth mother and applies for a job on their horse ranch. Nobody in the family has a clue that she is related to them. But when a sister becomes suspicious of her, she does some research and finds out who she really is, but not in time before the woman wrecks havoc on the family and her mother for revenge of her empty, foster-home childhood.

Interceptor Force
Released in DVD by York Home Video (17 April, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Starring: Interceptor Force and Ernie Hudson
Average review score:

Gruner is awesome, movie isn't his best though.
Lt. Sean Lambert (Olivier Gruner) and his team of mercenaries (Glenn Plummer, William Zabka) are deployed to investigate the crash of a squadron of F117's in Mexico. Sean, his team, and a couple scientists sent by the Air Force go to investigate the crash of the F117 to find a alien spacecraft instead. They must track and destroy an alien that defies physics.

The movie has pretty good special effects, the alien is done very well. The F117's also look pretty sharp, except for the fact that F117's aren't used for dogfighting. There are also some pretty nice explosions to go along with the alien.

Overall though, the movie fails to live up to expectations. You leave thinking you just watched a cheap ripoff of the Predator or Independence Day. However, all is not wasted as Olivier Gruner has some pretty nice fighting scenes which aren't bad at all. The movie could have been so much more with the actors that were employed. If you pick-up the DVD version, don't expect to see anything but some Bloopers after the credits roll
