Don't Buy
This is the worst dvd I have ever seen. It is great if you don't mind every other word being a bad swear or bleeped. All they show is clips anyway. it [is bad]

Good Chronicle of Austin's '98-'99 Career
This tape is a good chronicle of Austin's mid-'98-mid-'99 WWF tenure. It features, not all, but most of his feuds and Pay-Per-View match highlights, including The Rock (WrestleMania XIV and Backlash 1999), The Undertaker (SummerSlam '98), Kane (King of the Ring 1998), and, of course, WWF Chairman and arch-nemesis of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vince McMahon (Royal Rumble 1999 and St. Valentine's Day Massacre '99, and all of their other RAW highlights).

Austin is also featured in all of his most famous "RAW is WAR moments," such as his infamous invasion of Vince and Rock's in-ring promo when he drives a beer-truck right into the arena and gives McMahon and Rock a beerbath, the night he ran over Rock's "brand-new" car with a Stone Cold Steve Austin Monster-Truck, and his winning of the WWF Title on RAW from Kane. As I stated above, it starts off by highlighting his feud with Kane over the WWF Title and their First-Blood Match over it at King of the Ring 1998.... It then goes on and discusses his feud with The Undertaker and the two's battle over the WWF Title at SummerSlam '98. The Royal Rumble 1999 is discussed and how McMahon upset Austin by eliminating him and Austin's mauling of Vince at the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and the video then goes on and highlights Austin/Rock's WrestleMania XIV battle and their famous match at Backlash. The video also features Austin himself giving comments on those various feuds and matches. This video contains the "F-word" at least three times. Also shown is a good part of Austin's "Oh Hell Yeah" music video, the classic "BANG 3:16" angle on RAW (where Austin actually put a GUN to McMahon's head, and made him urinate in his pants!), ten or so seconds of his parts in "Nash Bridges," being mobbed by fans, backstage at a Mets vs. Mariners baseball game, throwing out the first pitch of that game, and a few other things. It's a good video. Not sensational but, then again, what is?

Matches Included on Tape(Mainly Highlight reels, but they do include a lot of highlights, unlike the FMW videos when they do highlights of matches and show almost nothing) (in no particular order):

1. vs. Kane (King of the Ring '98)
2. vs. Dude Love (Over The Edge '98)
3. vs. The Undertaker (SummerSlam '98)
4. vs. Vince McMahon (St. Valentine's Day Massacre '99)
5. Royal Rumble '99 (Vince upsets Austin)
6. vs. The Rock (WrestleMania 15 (1999))

7. vs. The Rock (Backlash '99)
8. vs. Kane (night after K.O.T.R. '98, where Austin regains the WWF Title)
9. a short highlight reel of the "beginning" of the "Stone Cold Era," when Austin won his first-ever WWF Title from Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14, is also shown

This is a pretty good video. You can definitely get better ones, but if you got spare mone, are a big Steve Austin fan, and have most of his other videos ("Lord of the Ring," "Austin 3:16," etc.), then I recommend that you buy it. It's pretty good.

WWE Unforgiven 1998
Coming off a 2 weeks after snapping the 83 week Ratings domiance by WCW,the WWF held WWF Unforgiven. This was a mix of the Attitude peroid and the "old WWF".An example of this was on this show:You see D-X come out and such and then you see Jeff Jarrett lip-syniching a concert with counrty signer Sawyer Brown. There are only 2 good matches and 3 "Interesting" ones.Owen Hart vs HHH was the first good match, and the main event,Dude Love vs Stone Cold Steve Austin was the second. The Inferno Match was pretty boring, but it got a good reputation from the marks,so whatever.

whosline803@aol.com
This video was awsome. My favorite was the first ever inferno match between (the prince of darknes)the Undertaker vrs. Kane. The only way to win is to put your opponent into fire. It was so cool to see Kane catch on fire. I give this 5/5 stars.

...
I have to say this video is amazing. The best part was the Undertaker and Kane in a inferno match with fire surrounding the ring. Those two guys got guts by entering a ring of fire. I'd give this video 5 stars

Worst Ending To A Main Event In The History Of Pro Wrestling
Now I noticed that most people are actually reviewing this as a good KOR and one thing comes to mind when i read a review like that for a ppv like this and that would be have you considered brain surgery? I mean c'mon Benoit suplexes Jericho and they both take a 3-hour nap in the middle of the ring and then Austin wakes up from his nap and crawls in the ring and puts his arm on Benoit and wins? I am sorry to say that I was one of the unfortunate victims that ordered that on ppv and let me tell you, when Austin pinned Benoit and actually got a 3 count I was very pissed. I had just been screwed out of 30 bucks and was obviously in a very bad mood after what had just happened. Anyways, I would just like to say that it's endings like that, that can put a ppv or an entire company out of business and this ppv did put the KOR out of business but the WWE can at least be thankful that this no good piece of possum crap didn't force the entire company to go out of business.

PS:If you are considering buying this pathetic excuse of an event I would just suggest throwing 30 bucks in the sewer instead of wasting any gas money to go to the mall and buy this joke.

I WAS THERE!!!!
Meadowlands East Rutherford NJ Continetal Airlines arena. The event would prove to be a big waste of $75.
Most of the matches came off as very boring and dissapointing. The Taker/DDP was ok, and the Spike/Kane vs the dudleys was good, but for the most part it was really boring. The best match of course was the Shane vs Angle. I forget the outcome but when Angle tried to throw him through the glass windows that were the set for King of the ring, the first attempt failed and the glass didn't break and Shane hit the floor really hard. It's pretty dissapointing when the best match features a non wrestler! I was also dissapointed by the main event in which Jericho and Benoit basically 'swam' around the outside of the ring for like 10 minutes, way to kill time! The only thing that saved that match was a suprise run in.
I'm not sure what's on the DVD, but hopefully it's not as boring as it was live.

Very Good PPV put out by WWF
King of the Ring is usually a dull pay-per-view because there is no buildup to the King of the Ring Tournament matches on they take up space on the card but KOR 2001 really was a pretty decent pay-per-view put out by the WWF.

Kurt Angle vs. Christian-Great opening match. Christian is really underrated
Edge vs. Rhyno-I didn't have much interest in this match, it was boring and I think Rhyno is nothing but a hardcore wrestler
Dudley Boyz vs. Spike Dudley and Mystery Partner-No interest in this match either. A pretty boring tag match. The Dudleyz are overrated
Kurt Angle vs. Edge-Good talent in the ring, match could have been better but it was pretty good
Jeff Hardy vs. X-Pac-Both these guys are great wrestlers but the match could have been 10 times better than it was
Undertaker confronts DDP-Undertaker destroys DDP, decent segment
Kurt Angle vs. Shane McMahon-UNBELIEVEABLE! Without a doubt the best match on the card and one of the best street fights I've ever seen. UNBELIEVABLE!
Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit- Slow to start out but once it gets going its a damn good match and ths starts the WCW Invasion.

Good PPV with a solid card from top to bottom. King of the Ring 2001 I would reccommend if you are in for a good match like Angle vs. McMahon and the Triple Threat for the Title.

Black Sheep
Released in DVD by Paramount Home Video (16 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Penelope Spheeris
Starring: Chris Farley and David Spade
Chris Farley plays the disaster-prone brother of a gubernatorial candidate in Washington State. Though he is well meaning, the havoc he creates on the campaign trail is drawing press attention, so a snotty aide (David Spade) to the politician is dispatched to keep the big lug under control. Spade's character initially insults his charge as often as possible, but over time, the two bond and end up becoming a part of the final election push. Farley and Spade have some very funny moments, but overall the film feels rushed and poorly planned. Constant changes in character and script happen recklessly and randomly so that nothing ever really makes sense; the film keeps changing the rules by which it plays. --Tom Keogh
Average review score:

A Cheap Rip-Off of their Previous Collaboration
I actually rate this movie with 2.5 stars. It has no purpose. We experienced the magic of the Farley/Spade comedy connection in "Tommy Boy"; why didn't they just leave well-enough alone? Were these guys in some alternate reality planning to become the next Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis comedy collaboration? Granted, the movie does star Chris Farley and David Spade, so it has its moments (how could it not?). Beyond that, "Black Sheep" has no rhyme or reason. Don't waste a minute of your time on this. Chances are, you've already seen it.

"KILL WHITEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
This Movie Has The SNL Duo By Chris Farley (R.I.P) And David Spade Some Great One Liners and Very Funny Moments Make This Worth Owning Spade And Farley Are One of The Top 5 On Screen Comedy Duos Ever In My Opinon

And While Your At It Buy Tommy Boy To

Funny!
I like Saturday Night Live and I like Chris Farley and David Spade who used to be on SNL and though Tommy Boy is my favorite of their movies I liked Black Sheep too and thought it was a really cute movie and it had scenes that were absolutely hilarious especially the scenes when they were out in the rural area. Tim Matheson is in this movie too and I have always liked him, he plays Chris Farley's politician brother and I thought he was great as were Chris Farley and David Spade. I highly recommend this delightful movie to fans of SNL, Chris Farley, David Spade, and Tim Matheson

WWE No Way Out 2003
Released in DVD by Sony Music (Video) (15 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating:
Average review score:

Not A Bad Set Up For WrestleMania 19
This edition of No Way Out wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. Let me start from the beginning of the card:

Jeff Hardy Vs. Chris Jericho - A surprisingly good match considering that Y2J has gotten the better of Hardy in the past. Good exchanges and cadence to the match. Jericho was decidedly cheered though he was a heel (this PPV was in Canada and Jericho is Canadian) but the crowd also gave Hardy his due as well.

RVD/Kane Vs. Lance Storm/William Regal - WWE "RAW" World Tag Team Championship

This match was pretty much one sided until Storm pulled off an illegal but smart move on Kane. I won't give away what it was but it was "simple but effective." Great exchange between RVD and Storm which was a throwback to their matches in the old ECW.

Billy Kidman Vs. Matt Hardy w/Shannon Moore - WWE Cruiserweight Championship

As typical, the cruiserweights put on a good show. Not great but it definitely didn't suck. The ending of this match has to be one of the more "face cringers" I've personally have ever seen (Face Cringers means moves that make you go AHHHHH!)

Chris Benoit & Brock Lesner Vs. Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Sheldon Benjamin, Charlie Haas)

With the combined experience and pure wrestling talent of Angle, Benjamin and Haas, you'd think it would be impossible for even THREE men to beat them much less two but if any two men could beat them it is Benoit and Lesner! This match wasn't too flashy but a lot of holds and counter holds and awesome suplexes and slams!

Undertaker Vs. The Big Show

Slow, boring match but it DID reveal a new style to the 'Taker as he displayed more submission type holds during this match.

Scott Steiner Vs. Triple H - "RAW" World Heavyweight Championship

While it is an improvement from their Royal Rumble encounter, it still sucks! Steiner isn't the Scott Steiner from 10 years ago when he combined power and agility. He isn't even the Steiner from WCW just a 2 short years ago when he went to brute power and intensity. HHH, on the other hand, isn't the same man that once gave consistently good matches with The Rock, Steve Austin or Mick Foley. He hasn't been the same since his quad injury (though I give him props for having the guts to come back at all from that injury).

Anyway, it isn't that great.

Stone Cold Steve Austin VS. Eric Bischoff

CAN YOU SAY TOTAL ELIMINATION!? Bischoff wasn't even close to beating Austin! Even Vince McMahon did better than Uncle Eric! In a nutshell, Austin slaghters Eric Bischoff!

The Rock VS.Hulk Hogan

Nowhere near the classic that their WrestleMania 18 encounter was though The Rock in full heel persona DID make it watchable! To quote Vinnie Mac, "THERE'S NO CHANCE IN HELL" and there certainly was no chance in hell of Hogan winning that night! This was a great set up for Vince Vs. Hogan at WrestleMania 19 the following month.

Overall, pretty good card. I'd get it if for no other reason than to have a backstory to WrestleMania 19.

Good Lead Up to Wrestlemania
No Way Out is usually a decent event as it leads up to Wrestlemania and serves as a hype center. This year was no exception.

Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho-This would prove to be Jeff Hardy's last match in the WWE for quite a while and man was it exciting. Jericho shows how good he is by feuding with practically the entire RAW roster. He goes back to his high flying cruiserweight WCW days and doesn't look back. Jeff Hardy manages to put on his best match in recent memory. A good opener and a solid match. 8 out of 10 stars.

William Regan and Lance Storm vs Rob Van Dam and Kane for the World Tag Team Championship-Lance Storm and even RVD to some extent are two of the best athletes that the WWE has. But even they cannot save this match. William Regal does absolutely nothing for me. The last match I can remember him having was against Austin and that was just him getting beaten down. Crap match with a crap ending. 6 out of 10 stars.

Matt Hardy v.1 w/Shannon Moore vs Billy Kidman for the Cruiserweight Championship- The Crusiwerweight Championship is only on PPV when it changes hands. The last time was Survivor Series when it changed hands from Jamie Knoble to Billy Kidman and now it's Billy Kidman passing it on. Good to see Matt Hardy getting a push and good to see him holding a title that's not with a partner. Decent match. 7 out of 10.

The Undertaker vs The Big Show w/Paul Heyman-The Undertaker finally gets his hands on The Big Show after Show put Taker on the shelf for three months. An entertaing match and a match that shows that the Undertaker can still go. The leap over the rope on to The Big Show and A-Train gets the adrenaline pumpping everytime and reminds us that we are still watching a legend at work. 9 out of 10.

Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit vs Team Angle(Kurt Angle, Charlie Haas, and Shelton Benjamin)-This was originally supposed to be a six man tag match, but Edge was taken out backstage and Lesnar and Benoit decided that they would make this a handicap match. It would have made sense for Team Angle to win, but since Lesnar and Benoit decided to go it alone it must be a portent that they would win. A solid, techinical wrestling match that was really only hampered by it's outcome. How many times is Lesnar going to get the better of Kurt Angle before Wrestlemania? 7 out of 10 stars.

Scott Steiner vs HHH w/Evolution(Batista, Orton, and Flair) for the World Heavyweight Championship-People feel the need to criticize the Steiner/HHH matches and while they might be justified some of it it unwarranted. Sure neither of them are good matches, but people nit pick at every little detail to make them seem worse. This match is better than the Royal Rumble match, but with that said this isn't Bret Hart and HBK. Nothing spectacular, but nothing totally horrible. 6out of 10.

Eric Bischoff vs Stone Cold Steve Austin-This match marks Austin's return to the WWE since his walk out the previous summer and what better way to return than against his former boss. The match itself is awesome just for it's entertainment aspect. Austin does not appear to have lost anything and play to the crowd like the Austin of old. Bischoff had no chance of winning like anyone even cares, yet he manages to "kick out" of a couple pinning situations. Like I said this match rules for the entertainment values(i.e. watching Bischoff get massacred). 9 out of 10.

The Rock vs Hulk Hogan-Part 2:Hollywood vs Hollywood-This also marks the Rock's return and somewhere between here and last year's Summerslam The Rock decided that the fans had turned against him. He returns sporing a new bald head and an even more impressive new tattoo. The match itself was nowhere near as good as their Wrestlemania X8 match, but it was still good. Sets up Vince and Hogan at Wrestlemania and to a small extent Austin and The Rock. 7 out of 10 stars.

The DVD itself contains some cool extras including Austin's return to RAW that took place the night Vince made the Bischoff/Austin match and the confrontation between Hogan and The Rock on Smackdown. A good ppv with some exciting matches.

Video Essentials: Optimizing Your Audio/Video System
Released in DVD by Dvd International (21 July, 1998)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Joseph J. Kane Jr.
Starring: Sam Dalton
Average review score:

Poor layout, difficult navigation, poor explanations.
First of all, like most DVD's you are not able to simply navigate this DVD with the Title and Chapter Menu buttons. No, the author decided in his infinite wisdom to make navigation a chore by accessing a "Program Menu" which only after significant effort I was able to finally figure out how to get to point A to point B and even then it required cumbersome navigation and took far too long. It was really an aggravation and frustrating since my principle concern was not learning how to navigate the damn DVD but learning how to calibrate my system.

After wasting far far too much time figuring out how to navigate through the DVD I then undertook to calibrate my system. The author's introductory chapters are interesting and informative, BUT he fails to follow up on the initial promise of the DVD by leaving you without adequate instructions on how to use the test tones and video tools.

For instance, he has half right speaker tones, but never explains what in the heck they are for. After a brief and disappointing intro to both audio and video he simply throws the test tones at you. Why didn't he have a thorough step by step explanation of exactly how to use them.

The other problem is that he uses terms he does not completely explain or define leaving this user confused and scratching his head.

If you are an expert and know what you are doing then this DVD might be more useful than it was to me.

Hopefully, I'll eventually figure out how to use the darn thing.

Summary impression: EXTREMELY cumbersome navigation! Poor incomplete explanations of vital information. My next step: Try Avia with hopefully better luck!

BUY THIS THING!
Made all the difference for our 65" wide-screen Mitsubishi TV. We had a tech come out and try to improve our picture, and he accomplished nothing. This DVD made things fantastic in no time at all!

Excellent and well worth the money
I have had this DVD for years. It was tought to buy it at first since $25 seemed like a lot for something I would only use once. And I figured I would just use it to tune my audio, who worries about their TV anyways? Well, I used it for both and it made a big difference. Since then I have used it on other TVs and all of them have been improved.

But something recently just amazed me. The text menus on my DVD player started looking funny and were hard to read. I really thought something was wrong with my DVD player or maybe the component video cables. Well, finally I put this disc back in and re-tuned my TV and it looks perfect, once again. I guess my settings were messed up at some point...

The Funhouse
Released in DVD by Goodtimes Home Video (26 October, 1999)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Tobe Hooper
Starring: Tobe Hooper
Average review score:

Wonderfully creepy!
The set of this movie is the carnival. Nearly all the lighting is natural, which means it comes from the lights at the carnival and the atmosphere in which it was shot.

This is a creepy and fun movie based upon the novel of the same name.

Highly recommended.

The "other" splatter flick from director Tobe Hooper
All things considered, Tobe Hooper's "The Funhouse" is actually a better movie than his infamous original version of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." True, you will not a single scene in this 1981 splatter flick to rival the first appearance of Leatherface (i.e., the scene with "THE HOOK"), but overall the production values are better and the atmosphere never goes careening off into the totally bizarre (at least not in my book).

After a title sequence that sets both the setting and the tone, "The Funhouse" begins with a nice nudge-nudge, wink-wink that combines the opening of "Halloween" with the shower scene from "Psycho." Amy Harper (Elizabeth Berridge) has a pesky younger brother, Joey (Shawn Carson), who violates their sibling propriety so badly that she pins him up against the wall and says not only will she not take him to the carnival that is in town, she will, one day, at a place and time of her choosing, get him in a way that will pretty much scar him for life.

Our story really begins when Amy's dad forbids her to go to the carnival, because a couple of girls were found dead after it left a nearby town. Of course Amy not only goes to the carnival with her date, Buzz (Cooper Huckabee) and her friends Liz (Largo Woodruff) and Richie (Miles Chapin), but after enjoying the freak shows and other tacky sideshow attractions, she ends up going along with Richie's brilliant idea to spend the night in the Funhouse. However, before the two couples can get really comfortable they witness a gruesome and unexpected murder on the level below them, and when they make the mistake of letting the killer know that they are there, the fun really begins.

This horror film really benefits from the setting, both in terms of the seedy carnival and the mechanical innards of the funhouse itself. There is a slight let down because the funhouse ride, which the quartet take so that they can jump off to hide for the night, is nothing special. On the one hand, that is not surprising, because this is a seedy little carnival. But the title credits heighten our expectations and it is actually not until the power is off in the funhouse and the figures are all still that they start to creep you out. You know most of our little group is going to end up dead and Amy meets the only requirement a young woman needed to survive a splatter flick way back then, but Buzz actually does a decent job of keeping his head and trying to fight back, which is a rather welcome surprise, even though it is obviously a doomed effort.

The script by Lawrence Block was based on a novel by Dean Koontz, but once it became clean the finished film was going off in a different direction, Koontz got his name pulled from the credits. Despite that badge of dishonor, "The Funhouse" is an above average splatter flick and one of the few that came out in the wake of "Halloween" that was not a wretched disappointment. Final Thought: I wonder if years later, when Cooper Huckabee and Kevin Conway (who plays the carny barker) both appeared in the film "Gettysburg" if they got together and commented on the fact that they got out of "The Funhouse" with their careers alive. Then again, Conway does give the best performance in the flick and has all of the good lines.

A real treat for fans of 80s slashers and monster movies
What a pleasure it was sitting back watching this again as it was a while -- an 80's slasher that's a bit different and still a great watch.

From the beginning of the opening credits start and the movie's title flashes up on the screen, John Beal's sinister soundtrack let's one know that there's going to be menace in store. It takes a while to get going perhaps, but the wait is well worth it.

The set up is okay, too. Amy (Elisabeth Berridge) is getting ready for her first date with Buzz (Cooper Huckabee). Their double date, who set them up, Richie and Liz (Miles Chaplin & Largo Woodruff) is joining them for a night at the traveling carnival, Early on in the film, one character mentions the previous year the carnival had came, it had coincided with a couple of murders in the town. Coincidence? Come to the funhouse to find out.

After Buzz and a rigid Amy get off on the wrong foot, eventually everyone relaxes and is having a good time at the carnival. There's some pot smoking, seeing a "boring" magic show with a great little ending, obnoxiously heckling a fortune teller and seeing an "Amazing Animals" show with all sorts of deformities, including what looks like a baby mutation.

Then Richie has a great idea! Spend an overnight in the funhouse at the park for kicks. The girls call home to make an excuse to their parents.

There's a nice scene in all of this with Amy listening intently to the announcer in front of the funhouse..."You will scream with terror...you will beg for release, but there will be no escape...for there is no release from the funhouse". Sets the tone well.

Liz saying to Richie, "this better be good", with he enthusiastically replying "It's gonna be great!", the quartet take a ride in the funhouse, jumping off their cars mid-ride. The park closes, and as the night's crowds are leaving, the growing danger can be felt and safety diminished with the four still inside as the camera pulls an aerial view of the diminishing crowd going home.

From there, it's a flat out horror movie. Period. It's scary and intense. After witnessing a murder, and being found out by carnival owner Kevin Conway and his son, visuals and sounds play an abundant part to the unknown terror that could be lurking around every corner, and director Tobe Hooper knows it. This movie ain't titled "The Funhouse" for nothing. It's all about the atmosphere.

The four "teens" are good in their roles. Miles Chapin was 27 when he did this, but I actually bought him as a college age kid. Huckabee does the requisite hunk hero adequately enough here. The girls are worth watching, though. My guess is Elizabeth Berridge's agent tried to set her up as the next scream queen with this one. Interesting that she's really more trained into theater and does a lot of stage work today. The real scream queen is Woodruff, however. She's really good and totally believable, and perhaps the most memorable scene of the movie involves her trapped in a vent with a scary visitor. She is absolutely terrified, desperately trying to talk her way out of her situation and I bought every minute of it.

Both Conway and his son, played by mime Wayne Doba, are also good. Conway is simultaneously disgusted at and affectionate towards his son, and Doba potrays a range of emotions just from his body language alone, and there is sympathy for him, although he is as frightening as hell.

Admittedly, some of the material seems a bit padded to fit a 90 minute feature and could be taken out. Some of it is mean spirited, and the little brother subplot is rather weak, although it does lead up to one nice scene involving a character reaching for safety that is close, but yet so far away.

Overall, however, "The Funhouse" is quite a good watch.

2 Days in the Valley
Released in DVD by Hbo Studios (07 August, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: John Herzfeld
Starring: Danny Aiello, Jeff Daniels, Teri Hatcher, and Charlize Theron
Overlooked in theaters but gaining a modest cult following in video release, writer-director John Herzfeld's underrated 2 Days in the Valley has a lot going for it, not the least being a variety of interesting characters played by a superb ensemble cast. The complex plot centers on a mild-mannered hit man (Danny Aiello) who is hired by an icy killer (James Spader) to assist him on his latest job. Eric Stoltz and Jeff Daniels play the vice cops who stumble on the murder scene. Their investigation leads to a colorful array of San Fernando Valley denizens, including a has-been director (played by director Paul Mazursky) and a snobbish art dealer (Greg Cruttwell) whose lives come together in unexpected and interesting ways. Emphasizing characters that consistently hold our attention with humor and poignant desire, this clever thriller fits nicely into the eccentric category of "Only in California." --Jeff Shannon

WHERE IS MY WATCH ?
I still wonder what was the purpose of John Herzfeld when he filmed TWO DAYS IN THE VALLEY. The structure of the movie isn't revolutionary, so the plot should give us an answer to this question.

Well...I still wonder, did I say ! It could be :

- Everybody changes his mind so don't take anything for granted.

- One minute of your time can modify your life (but we know that already, don't we ?).

- Don't get married if you're an ice skater !

And so on. You've understood that the screenplay isn't the main interest of this movie neither.

Happily enough, the cast is great and brings very funny and enjoyable moments, I must admit it.

A DVD zone I should have rent it instead of buying it.

Most fun I've had with a cult classic in a long time. . .
'2 Days in the Valley' is NOT one of those movies where you're rolling around on the floor laughing, but you will most likely find yourself feeling and cheering for this bunch of characters played out by an AWSOME and well-cast cast. Charlize Theron in particular (who has got to be one of the most beautiful women on Earth) will leave you thinking about her long after the movie is over. She and Terri Hathcer's (who does the best acting job here she has ever done) cat fight toword the end is the highlight of the movie by far. If you like quirky characters, cute gogs, unbelievably gorgeous women who can fight, and even coldblooded killers, you will surely enjoy this movie.

if you are one of those people who only like these big, epic movies (re: Titanic, Lord of the Rings, Braveheart) then avoid '2 Days in the Valley' . . . it's not for everyone :D

This film is a classic because...
No matter what scene you come in on, you'll say to your friends, "Look, this is a really good part,"and you'll all sit there till the end. I always figured Charlize Theron was sleeping with the costume designer because she was a new-comer, while Teri Hatcher was an established star. Yet, in every scene, Teri is sweating, in sweats, and Charlize is wearing this white body stocking(or not)that looks like it's more make-up than clothing. Their fight scene is my favorite. Spader gives everyone 60 seconds, Aiello cooks, Jeff Daniels steams and Eric Stoltz finds a clue and meets a charming young lady. You'll recognize almost everyone in this "all stories converge" masterpiece.

Released in DVD by Warner Home Video (17 October, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Clint Eastwood
Starring: Clint Eastwood and Freddie Jones
You can tell Clint Eastwood is getting old by all of the "retired" characters he plays who are pressed back into service, as in this early '80s effort. It's one of Eastwood's lesser action entries, in which he served as both star and director. He plays a retired fighter pilot who is enlisted by the U.S. government to infiltrate the Soviet Union (back in the days when it was still an Evil Empire) and steal an ultra-top-secret fighter plane with all kinds of superior capabilities (back when the Stealth bomber was still a struggling prototype). Sure, no problem. Except that it takes forever to actually get Clint into the plane--and once he's got it, he keeps interrupting the fighter-plane sequences (the best thing about the movie) to land the thing and have fistfights and gunfights. --Marshall Fine

Fun Propoganda....with some gaping holes
I was rather surprised that Clint Eastwood would be involved in such propoganda. That aside, it did make for a suspenseful story...with a couple of really obvious missteps:

1. Why was Gant SO easily persuaded to go along with the mission. I expected at least a half hour or so of rebellion on the part of this ex-Air Force pilot. Instead, he gave in almost instantaneously.

2. Has anyone ever seen the sun come out so fast as it did after Gant pulled the plane from the hangar? Wasn't it supposed to be the middle of the night? All of a sudden, the sun was out when the plane took off. I've seen this kind of screw-up before...I remember seeing it once on the "Adam-12" television show....but never in a major motion picture.

I can't comment as to the reality of the planes, etc., because I am not familiar enough. But if they can't get night and day straight, I have to wonder if ANY thought was put into reality.

I Can't Stop Watching this Film!!!
I've seen this film at least seven times, and I enjoyed it just as much each time.
This is a very enjoyable cold war action/spy drama. Tense action carried out in Clint Eastwood style.
If you like Clint Eastwood. You'll like this film. Some have pointed out some continuity errors in the film, but these don't spoil the story. The characters are acted in such a way as to make you care about what happens to them.
It's looely based on the books. The movie ends in a way I won't spoil. But I will say that after you see this movie you should search out the books, Firefox, Firefox Down (they are selling on Amazon; as used for a penny)

FireFox - A true Eastwood classic!
Directing and starring in this classic spy thriller from the eighties is Clint Eastwood, more generally known as the gruff "Man With No Name" in several spaghetti westerns and American westerns of his own direction. In "FireFox," Eastwood takes on a more modern and quite different role for himself, playing a former Air Force pilot who is still suffering from some rather horrific personal demons. In the genre of spy/thriller films, Eastwood's name comes to the top in this classic that is arguably one of the best! Although the pacing of this film is slightly off, I believe that to be intentional and it adds to the suspense that is inherent to the plot and a sure sign of skill on the director's part.

The premise:

Clint Eastwood plays former Air Force pilot Mitchell Gant who was shot down over Viet Nam and captured. The American and British governments have learned of a new Soviet fighter plane that will ultimately tip the scales of balance to the hand of the Soviets and decide to steal the plane with the help of the Russian Jews who have been forced to design and build it. Given Gant's heritage, a Russian mother who taught him the language and the necessity of being able to speak Russian, the American government calls him back into service.

What follows from there is an extraordinarily intriguing and suspenseful plot that compels the viewer through the story as we see Gant make his way into the Soviet Union and on his way to the airbase in which he must infiltrate and steal this ultimate weapon of war. Of particular note is how well the characterizations of the Russians were played out and believable. I've never been to Russia and I don't pretend to know how things were there during the cold war and pre-glasnost but through Eastwood's direction and the actors efforts, they quite easily bring about a "suspension of disbelief" in the story.

One minor "gripe" would be in the beginning of the movie when Gant is going through a flashback and they show him flying an F-4 Phantom and then an F-105 Thud and then roll back to the Phantom, two very distinct and different aircraft. Simply because they both had the same camouflage scheme does not mean they're the same planes and directors "should" pay closer attention to these details. While this was a minor distraction for myself, it in no way detracts from the films overall plot.

Overall, "FireFox" is worth every penny and I highly recommend this DVD as an honored addition to your DVD collection! {ssintrepid}
