The Base 2

Sweet Cheeks Melissa Lewis Ignites the HOT HOT Antonio
Oh, my lordy, lord, lord. The Base 1 left me feeling bereft of any true emotion. Thank God for the Base II with the steamy Melissa Lewis and the gun toting, fatigue wearing hunk of spunk, Antonio Sabato, Jr. I wish I could give this movie a six, but you only have a five..which I would like to talk to you guys about at some other point in time. So anyway, the interaction between the cast, especially Melissa Lewis and Antonio, was provocative and real. I heard they were going to cast Alyssa Milano for the female lead, but the director saw the light and cast newcomer, and Maxim magazine favorite, Melissa Lewis. Great choice in casting, great crafts and services. Buy this movie twice.

Beatrix Potter - The Tale of The Flopsy Bunny and Mrs. Tittlemouse / Tale of Pigling Bland

Fine Quality Film Enhances Classic Tales
If you entertain children, you'll love this wonderful alternative to "Everything Disney" or "Killer Robots" videos that make up so much of kids viewing fare. This film intersperses live action vignettes of Beatrix Potter's creative process with animation of her famous stories in a very entertaining way. The animation is so well done that I find the distinction between it and the live action blurred in my perception. Our 5-year-old and 3-year-old rough and tumble boys love it and request it again and again. I find the peaceful, woodland village milieu of the stories and the backstory so enchanting that I usually stop what I'm doing and watch with them. This will be a great addition to your DVD library. It will leave you wanting more.

Because of You
Released in DVD by New Concorde Home Video (31 July, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Starring: Takoaka, Osorio, and Saki Takaoka

How do you repay the dying man who taught you to dance?
"Because of You" tells the story of Kyoko (Saki Takaoka), a young Japanese woman who travels to New York City to visit Jose (Carlos Osorio), the Cuban-American soldier who taught her Salsa dancing years before when he was stationed in her country. However, when she finds him she discovers he has AIDS, his memory is failing and his health is deteriorating. His final wish is to see his family in Miami one last time, and she agrees to drive him there, hoping that she can trigger his memories of the time they had spent together as dance partners and remember her. This 1995 film, from Ryu Murakami, the director of "Tokyo Decadence," was produced by Roger Corman, which surprised me because this movie is pretty far from his standard exploitative type of film. "Because of You" is an emotional film, surprisingly show given the unusual combination of elements. Or perhaps that is why it works so well, with Kyoko's memories of dancing with Jose contrasted with his debilitating disease. It is also one of the most touching "off-beat friendship" films I have seen in quite a while. If you can find this at your local video store, please check it out.

The Beiderbecke Connection
Released in DVD by Goldhil Home Media I (11 February, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Alan Bell (II)

Superb conclusion
This makes a superb conclusion to Alan Plater's brilliant Beiderbecke trilogy. The locations deserve a special mention - they really sum up North England in the 1980s! Just one gripe - where's The Beiderbecke Tapes?

Berga: Soldiers of Another War
Released in DVD by Warner Home Video (20 May, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Charles Guggenheim

Shocking Story
This is a shocking story of American soldiers sent to a concentration camp. This is a powerful documentary of a little known episode in WWII. The film, however, is not the first to document the story. It actually was inspired by revelations about Berga in Mitchell Bard's 1994 book, Forgotten Victims: The Abandonment of Americans in Hitler's camps.

Best of Intimate Sessions, Vol. 2
Released in DVD by York Home Video (07 November, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Intimate Sessions and Marilyn Vance
Average review score:

A Visual Symphony
The most impressive thing about a symphony is how it all works together - the whole being more than the sum of parts. Every episode of Intimate Sessions is a combination of creative photography, sensual scripts and direction, and most important to me, great music. Hermann Beeftink's scores are amazing. He creates magical music, drawing from styles that range from Mozart to cajun, solo instrumental to vocals. What an incredible composer! I would love to hear some of his compositions on a CD.

What they don't teach us in history
History is written by the victor. Schools rarely teach the Japanese-American experience during World War II in America, and what little they do teach is often shallow and simplistic. This video features interviews with Japanese-American veterans who fought in Europe and Asia during World War II, who freed Americans units trapped by Germans in Italy as well as freeing Jews held in Concentrations camps while there families were held in relocations camps in America. An excellent historical video not to be missed or overlooked.
