Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, Vol. 6 - Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold
Released in DVD by Public Media Inc (29 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Kazuo Ikehiro
Average review score:

My Favorite Zatoichi Flick
When I was younger I used to hunt down grainy copies of the Zatoichi series which were poorly subtitled and poorly transferred on VHS. I was very pleased to see this quality cinema transferred to DVD and given the respect it deserves. The Zatoichi Series, though it declined at the beginning of the seventies, remains some of the greatest drama/action in cinema history; at least according to my opinion. The seventies saw a drastic change in Japanese culture, and the movie industry became more sexual and trashy. The 1960's saw the greatest in cinematography, plot, and character development- far surpassing anything Hollywood was doing during that time. This Zatoichi episode is a classic which pits Ichi against some fierce bandits, and a mission to clear his name with a village of farmers. The chambara here is excellent, and the ethics of Ichi are highly pronounced. I look forward to more DVD transfers of the Zatoichi series.

Can't miss with a hard drinking highly skilled swordsman
As always, this movie gives you all you want in the zatoichi vein, the emmotional women, the amazing swordsmanship, and the numerous opportunities for Zatoichi to display the character that lasted him thru so many movies. Mixed up in the search for a lost chest of gold, thieves, and crooked goverment officials, Zatoichi saves the day in his unsual manner. Not quite as good as the first ones but still worth the price

A Date with Anna: The Making of the Anna Kournikova Calendar
Released in DVD by Lions Gate Home Ente (05 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Gregg Backer
Average review score:

My first date...
The ESPN TV special featuring the single most beautiful tennis player in existence is now on DVD, with added extras--including a look at Anna's 2002 Calendar shoot and a look at one of her tennis matches. Anna Kournikova is, obviously, quite beautiful, and this DVD showcases it by going behind the scenes of her 2003 calendar photo shoot. She holds her own against any supermodel out there, I'd say. If you're an Anna K fan, this is a must-have.

Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, Vol. 2 - The Tale of Zatoichi Continues
Released in DVD by Home Vision Entertainment (14 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Kazuo Mori
The wild success of The Tale of Zatoichi demanded a sequel and star Shintaro Katsu was only too happy to reprise his role as the traveling masseur and blind swordsman. Star Katsu and director Kazuo Mori flesh out the enigmatic Ichi in this outing, creating a more haunted and less conniving character who prefers to keep his identity shrouded and his sword sheathed. Nonetheless the peace-loving swordsman is reluctantly and repeatedly forced to fight when he's attacked by a government goon squad, a gang of hoodlums, and an angry one-armed swordsman whose interest in Ichi is purely personal. This action-packed entry, which ultimately brings our hero back to the site of his previous film for the furious climax, practically revels in the concentrated bursts of Ichi's lightning attack.

The newly restored DVD features a small stills gallery, a fold-out insert with an essay by Tatsu Aoki (a self described "Ichi Freak"), and four collector cards. --Sean Axmaker

Top notch Ichi.
Yet another good offerring in the Zatoichi series of films. About the only thing I can offer that I have not seen mentioned before in any of the reviews is that this one is a fair bit shorter than part one but it has quite a bit more action than the first. At any rate, and most importantly, if you liked the first, you will like the second as well as the rest of the recent releases on dvd( of which they are apparantly going to release the first seventeen films in the Zatoichi series.). Also, a company called animeigo has the rights to a few of the later Zatoichi films and are supposedly planning on releasing them in the near future as well.

Zatoichi at his finest!
Let me say this, I saw my first Zatoichi movie back when I was 14 and since then I was absolutely hooked.

The move was beautifully done and I can not stress enough what an awesome character Shintaro Katsu can play. I have all of his VHS tapes and I am slowing starting to build my DVD collection. I have DVD's from overseas subtitled and let me tell you.
It invokes a feeling that no one anywhere, time, or place can in this day and age. The movies are genre films (Feeling invoking). DO you remember the first time you saw seven, primal fear, titanic - (kind of cheesy now) but at the time the movies gave you a feeling right.

Well all of his movies are like that. This one here is 1 of my top 10's! 5 out of 5. He has over 30 movies made and also 100's of TV episodes. Trust me on this. Its great. Once you get hooked you'll love it as much as me. BUT BEWARE YOU HAVE TO ENJOY FILM> If those action packed rockem sockem's are your only cup of tea then not for you.

Great Samurai Story & Series
I really appreciate Home Vision Entertainments production of the Zatoichi movie series. Each release has been an excellent presentation of Zatoichi. As a Japenese Samurai Movie fan I think that this series of DVD's is the best. The character of Zatoichi is very compelling and each story helps you identify with this Blind Swordsman who is always trying to do good for others. The examples of Japenese culture during this time period is very beautiful and detailed. Shintaro Katsu displays a wide range of emotions as Zatoichi and his display of swordmanship is excellent.

Mystery Date
Released in DVD by M G M, Inc (07 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Jonathan Wacks
Starring: Ethan Hawke and Teri Polo
A Risky Business clone with loftier ambitions, Mystery Date holds up surprisingly well despite its '80s teen-flick trappings. This was Ethan Hawke's follow-up to the successful family adventure White Fang, and it's fun to watch the fresh-faced future Mr. Uma Thurman playing a shy guy named Tom who's obsessed with his dishy neighbor Geena (then-newcomer Teri Polo, in '80s big-hair splendor). When Tom's criminally entangled brother (Brian McNamara) manipulates Tom into a mistaken-identity date with Geena, they soon find themselves chased by a crazed delivery driver (Fisher Stevens), a hot-headed L.A. detective (SCTV alumnus Tony Rosato), and a Chinese mob kingpin (B.D. Wong) whose henchmen are named Ben and Jerry (giving some indication of this movie's dim sense of humor). Plot twists proliferate, and Polo (who had to wait until 2000's Meet the Parents for another decent movie role) manages to flatten her funniest line of dialogue. All of which makes Mystery Date a hit or miss affair, but mostly it hits. --Jeff Shannon

blackcomedyheaven
I need to buy this movie. one of my favorites of Ethan Hawke. its about Hawke who is in love with his next door neighbor played by the fantasically beautiful Teri Polo and his brother(Bill McNamara) sets him up on the date. suddenly people mistake him for his brother who turns out to be a hit man and things start to happen that are crazy. B.D. Wong is a scream.

A Wonderfully Funny Romantic Comedy......
"Mystery Date" stars Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and Teri Polo (Meet The Parents) in a great romantic-comedy that is sure to be loved by everyone. Geena (Polo) stars as the gorgeous neighbour of Tom (Hawke), whom he is completely infatuated with. Tom tries to get the nerve to ask her out, but fails at every turn. A surprise visit from his older brother (Brian McNamara) brings a bit of luck Tom's way. Through a bit of work, Tom's brother sets him up on a date with Geena. Things couldn't be better, except for the small of exception of a little bit of mistaken identity on the part of Tom. For some reason, people think he's his older brother. Over the course of the evening the duo have run-ins with a maniacal flower delivery boy (Fisher Stevens), paid-off cops, a crime lord and other trouble. Do the two escape alive, or does this spell the end of Tom and Geena? I highly recommend this movie as the laughs are plenty. Many people are sure to relate to this romantic-comedy about a first-date. Ethan and Teri do wonderful jobs in their respective rolls and the movie has got a pretty decent transfer too. The disc has both widescreen and fullscreen versions of the movie, in addition to the original trailer. Watch, enjoy, laugh, and you will not be disappointed.

Great Movie!
I don't even remember how I stumbled across this movie, but it has remained one of my favorites through the years.

I recommend this movie to anyone who has ever gone on a first date and experienced the nightmares that can come when things don't go as planned. The 'hero' of our story has a crush on the girl next door secretly until his brother convinces and later sets up on a date with her. Unknown to our hero is that his 'mystery date' is the alibi for his brother.

On the run from the crooks and the cops he must keep his date entertained and alive until he can get to the bottom of the plot against him.

I wore out the VHS tape at the video store so I had to buy the DVD. See this movie! You will not regret it.

Date with an Angel
Released in DVD by Anchor Bay Entertain (21 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Tom McLoughlin
Starring: Michael E. Knight, Phoebe Cates, and Emmanuelle Béart
Average review score:

Silly nonsense
I'm a big fan of Emmanuelle Beart and her part in this movie was pretty good. She didn't have to speak except for a couple of sentences right at the end. The rest of the cast were terrible, but who can blame them. The idea of the movie offers so many opportunities for cleverness and hilarity, but this hardly materialises. They were a couple of good themes and some sparsely scattered funny moments.

At least for Beart it was a much better part than her one in Mission Impossible.

If you like movies like "Splash" and "Mannequin", you will only be half disappointed by this one.

On a wing and a prayer
No Phoebe Cates is the angle. This time Emmanuelle Beart is the angel.
The story is one of those strait forward situation comedies. As in "Heaven Can Wait" or more like "Meet Joe black", an angle on a mission is detoured when a satellite nicks her wing. She lands in a pool of a soon to be married musician (Jim). You know musicians; he is obligated to help the angle, yet he can not tell his fiancée (Patty), who of course suspects there is another woman. Naturally his friends find out and plan to get rich. And so on and so on.
Eventually the angle that by this time is enamored with Jim and vice versa is well and leaves. Patty who has been insulted and assaulted by Jim and the angle leaves also. To top it off maybe there was no angle. Seems Jim has a brain tumor. So how did everyone get in this situation and what is to become of Jim?

Land In My Pool Emanuelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this movie!!! I want an angel too!!! Emanuelle Beart is gorgeous!!! This movie did not get very good reviews when it came out back in 1987, but I believe that it is a great movie! It just makes you feel good. What else is there to say!

Blind Date
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (14 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Nico Mastorakis
Average review score:

3 sexy popular actresses before fame--2 topless!!
Where else can you see Kirstie Alley and Marina Sirtis topless in the same film, plus a young Valeria Golino posing in a bikini? Those are the 2 or 3 reasons to collect this film, obviously. However storywise it's definitely a unique concept: a guy goes blind so they hook an Atari chip to his brain to give him sight. Unfortunately, everything looks like Space Invaders to him. I wonder if he's now upgraded to X-box?
The dvd extras are quite good, with a very comprehensive film history of the director, including some outtakes of this film which include even lengthier nudity from Kirstie during her sex scene, some of which had been trimmed for the final print.

A chilling sci-fi thriller
There's a serial killer running amok...and no one knows who it is. Suddenly, through a tragic accident, a well-to-do business man has an accident & is blinded. He tries an experimental CGI chip implanted in his brain to help him "see" again. He witnesses one of the murders & "sees" an outline of the madman. Now the blind man must stop the killer before he kills again. Will he do it or be killed himself? Watch & find out! Great visuals! An erotic thriller!

Blind Date
Released in DVD by Columbia/Tristar Studios (05 February, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Blake Edwards
Starring: Kim Basinger and Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis's first starring vehicle was this 1987 comedy by Blake Edwards (Victor/Victoria), in which the actor plays a yuppie set up on a blind date with a beautiful blonde (Kim Basinger). Everything goes swimmingly until Willis does what he was warned not to do: give the lady alcohol, which causes her to get entirely out of control. The one-note joke basically turns the film into a succession of set pieces in which Willis has to keep up with Basinger, bail her out of trouble, or get out of the way of her hotheaded former boyfriend (John Larroquette). Willis is fine, Basinger is impressively unhinged, Larroquette is hilarious, and Phil Hartman has a nice role as the friend who set up Willis's evening from hell. The slapstick shtick is classic Edwards, but the film is not Edwards at his most inspired. Consider Blind Date the work of a good filmmaker in a holding pattern. --Tom Keogh
Average review score:

Worst movie ever
I have only walked out of a handful of movies, and this was one of them. Everything about this movie was contrived and stilted. While Blake Edwards has produced some classic movies, this simply is not one of them. I recommend S.O.B if you're looking for a truly excellent Edwards film

Okay, not perfect.
Blind Date was pretty funny, but I definitely don't think that it was either Willis's or Basinger's best movies. I also don't think that it was hysterically funny. It had some funny parts in it, but 3 stars is all I give it at the max.

One of the FUNNIEST American comedies ... ever !
Do I need to say the words ?...
Bruce Willis playing the hardworking office guy ... a looser ( ??? ). His boss having a BIG dinner party with new " Hope to be a partner ". He needs a date !? He is trying to rent his brother's wife , but he doesn't have a 100 bucks to pay for it . So , his brother setting him up with a blind date ... OH BOY ! Exectly ! Did you ever have a very wrong and bad blind date ? Forget about it ! This one is the ... I don't have the words . Let me finish with one of the last frases in this film : " STOP the music !... and shoot the dog ! "

Blind Date - The Ultimate Uncensored 3 Pack
Released in DVD by Universal Studios (24 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Average review score:

good if you're a fan of Blind Date & breasts
Because that's pretty much all this DVD is...women showing their breasts during various parts of the "Blind Date" scenarios. The DVD is introduced by a woman who pulls down her top while promising "hot scenes to come." Then it is just various clips of women appearing topless (or sometimes fully naked) during various shoots...showing up for their date with their shirt open (no bra), getting naked on dares, flashing breasts during the pre-date interviews. And then just for "fun" tossing in some uncensored swearing on a couple of the date scenes. They DO actually go through one full date at the end full of sexual innuendo and nudity from the male and the female sides, culminating in the couple showing their own amateur sex film shot in just enough darkness to hide the naughtiest bits. And I don't know what the producers were thinking when they included footage of a woman doing the post-date interview while sitting on the toilet clearly demonstrating that she'd probably eaten too many...ummm...bean tacos on her date.

Oh and by the way...host Roger Lodge does not appear in the DVD, which seriously detracted from whatever little quality this had, because I think his comments might have made it a bit funnier. Then again, his refusal to appear in this DVD might have been a smart choice.

Blind Date Uncensored 3 pack
I thought that only the one of the videos was cool. Dates from hell was the dumbest, along with weirdos and [strange folk]. I wish other dating shows would come out with some DVD's like this---anybody know of any???

Buy if you want, some parts are pretty funny.
