Karen Voight: Ultimate Circuit Training
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (09 April, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Karen Voight

Great workout
This DVD is awesome. I exercise to it every morning. I love the ab work on the incline bench, I feel it everytime. I like to choose from different workouts so I never get bored. It makes me sweat so I know I'm getting a workout. Karen is so easy to follow, her cueing is great. I would not change a thing.

A favorite!
Of all my exercise videos, I always come back to this one. This DVD has everything you need for your short or long workout preferences: you can choose to do the lon 1 hr. circuits with weights and step (fit ball option as well), or you can do them individually as a purely "strength" or "cardio" routines. The fitball option BLT (butt legs and thighs) is also a great addition to this DVD when you're not in the mood for something quite so strenuous. Karen's choreography is wonderful and the music is fun as well, which is hard to find for me-- I'm pretty picky, as I usually like modern, techno- hip-hop influenced routines.
The weight routines are also challenging and effective, however, at first you might feel like she doesn't do enough lower body-- but just wait for the last portion on the ball or step-- it's a killer!
Overall, this is the essential workout for me when I want to get a whole body, efficient program in 1hr-- I have yet to find a DVD that can match it!

excellent-lots of variety
This is a great dvd-lots of options for your workout. Karen is easy to follow and personable.I like that some workouts use step, some use the ball and some with no equipment-I like that because I'm not a huge fan of step. Each segment is well laid out and complete, its an effective fun workout that gives you the option to create your own plan depending on how much time you've got and I like that!

The Firm - Complete Aerobics & Weight Training

Get It!!
I consider myself an intermediate to advanced exerciser and have been doing The Firm for a few months now and LOVE THIS. I borrowed the BBS 2 from a friend but from the 3 workouts, this was my fave so I bought it separately. It really is the classic combination of aerobics then weights then aerobics which is what I look for. I loved the kickboxing moves and the slightly different use of the fanny lifter with legs out to the side - a nice twist on the typical up down move. I was sweating within the first 10 mins, getting a thorough workout. A fantastic ab section too. Definitely one of my favourites.

Perfect Workout
I have been using the firm for 2 years and this is the absolute best video they have made. Emily makes the video fun and easy to follow. She switches from weights to cardio a few times and then to the arms and abs. It is a great one hour workout and I recommend this video to people who need that extra visible result they have been looking for, this one covers all the bases. Don't forget to purchase your firm fanny lifter and sculpting stick, you need 3, 5 and 8 pound dumb bells. The firm by far is a great program for me and I hope that you give any firm video a try because it's great for your heart and their cardio routines are fun, the fanny lifter makes you work your thighs and butt it's really a great system I actually recommend the whole program, hoping that it will work for you.

Excellent
This is a great workout! Never boring and very thorough. It's tough enough but not so much that I can't complete it. Emily's enthusiasm is infectious.

Train Your Dog - The Positive Gentle Method
Released in DVD by Picture Company (18 April, 2003)

Amazing results, even on my strong willed dog
This DVD has been amazing for me and my dog ginger. Ginger is a Jindo mix, a hunting breed that is known for being strong willed and difficult to train. I've bought a few books and where they have failed, this DVD has succeeded. She has gone from pulling on her leash and having very selective hearing to understanding how to walk on leash, heel, sit and we're working on other commands.

The DVD is clear and shows you exactly how to do things with real dogs, unlike books that spend half a page telling you just how to hold a leash and end up just confusing.

The Training Never Ends
I naively thought the training of my 2 very large dogs would end after a couple of years or so. Sure, they've got the basics down but I'm learning that the training never ends. This DVD answers some of my questions about their continuing education, particularly about not "jumping up", and "leave it". Laura and Nicole are quite clear in their instruction; how to AND how not to. This is a great addition to my ever growing book and tape colletion in trying to understand two of my favorite creatures on the planet.

Excellent Positive Training Tips
This organized and well produced DVD made it very easy to get the tips necessary to train my dog. Each command is on a separate chapter which makes it wonderfully easy to review the training tip that I was interested in.
I enjoyed the wide varitey of dogs used in this DVD. Interesting tips were used for both large and small dogs. (I don't have a short legged dog, but was fascinated that this was covered in the section on "down".) My dog loved Nicole's voice, and watches the speakers intently when she praises the dogs.
This DVD is great; practical and fun to watch.

Body by Jake - Strength Training 101 for Women
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (07 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Learn the basics of low-weight, high-repetition strength training with Hollywood trainer Jake. In this 40-minute video, Jake instructs carefully and comprehensively while a young, fit, female exerciser demonstrates each exercise. The clear instruction is aimed at beginning level, with exercises for all major muscle groups. This is an instructional guide rather than a workout--if you want to use it as a workout, pause the DVD to complete your reps before going on to the next exercise. You'll need dumbbells, a barbell, and an adjustable weight bench with leg curl and leg extension (all the items in the Body by Jake equipment set). Since no alternatives are shown (e.g., dumbbells instead of barbell for several appropriate exercises), this DVD seems more appropriate as an instructional guide for working out with the Body by Jake equipment (or equivalent) rather than for general weight training at home. --Joan Price

Best Strength Training Tape For Beginners on the Market
I pre-ordered the VHS tape back in early December. I received it a few days ago. I am totally impressed. I have a weight bench, dumb-bells, a bar and a heavier weight set at home. I use my light weight dumb-bells all of the time, but I always wanted to use my work bench and heavier weights for sculpting, but was afraid of hurting myself from improper form. This tape makes it so simple. Jake walks you through each procedure and explains exactly which muscles are being worked. Most tapes perform the procedures in such a fast pace that I was always skeptical about even trying them out. Jake explains, as a model performs the procedure with proper form and technique in a slow smooth pace. Well, I'm on my way to the body I know I was meant to have. Thanks Jake for making a tape for beginners like myself.

Body by Jake Strength Training 101
I found this dvd to be extremely valuable when it comes to learning how to use weights. Jake's instruction is clear and very helpful. I was always nervous about using weights at the gym, now I have enough confidence to give it a try. I always wanted to use weights at home, but I never knew what I needed. Now I do. I know how much to lift, how many times and the best part is now I know how to sculpt the body I have always wanted.

Mahoromatic - Automatic Maiden - Maid in Training (Vol. 4)

What a great start for Season 2.
Season 1 in all of their existance, but somehow they did. The majority of this DVD is "comedic awesomeness." Yes, this DVD has little to do with the majority of the plot, but there is always little things you need to know, and everyone needs a good laugh now and then. This Season will, quite litterally, make you laugh until you can't breathe.

The Mahoromatic artists have, once again, shown their true skill without flaw. The music is, dare I say, better than the 1st season, so the soundtrack is definately a necessity! The only flaw to this DVD is Pioneer doesn't give you anything for your paper dolls. Sigh!

Oh, and I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but "Dirty thoughts are bad!"

Season 2
Although I havent seen the transfer, but I've seen the series. The second season introduces a new characeter and group to the universe. The girl is a cyborg built by a new group whos goals remain something of a mystery. Fans should get this one the infighting continues making the series a fun one.

Tai Chi - Energy Training for Mind and Body, Vol. 2

Terrific....beauty and form in a great addition to Volume 1
Jayne Storey is an excellent instructor and this video shows different angles which are a great plus. Storey is graceful and the video is very well done in a beautiful outdoor environment. If you are into learning a graceful tai chi exercise, I would recommend volume 2.

-A Viewer

Love the Volume II and am satisfied with my second purchase.
Well, after purchasing volume 1, I wanted to go farther with my instruction.

I have just received Volume 2, and have tried it out. It is terrific. I was a bit apprehensive about advanced instruction, but the calming and careful approach of Ms. Storey is just the type of training I need.

I never imagined that I would enjoy Tai Chi. However, with these two excellent volumes, 1 and 2, I would recommend these DVDs to anyone who is interested in a gentle form of exercise. This is truly a great way to relieve stress and to get the physical energy that is needed to function at your best.

A final note: Buy Volumes I and II.

Tai Chi - Energy Training for Mind and Body, Vol. 1

Good quality, but dfficult to follow
Trying to learn from a video with no background into the principles of Tai Chi didn't work from me. It was a bit like trying to play follow the leader where I had to try and copy movements that meant nothing to me and merely memorize as best I could what she was doing without any rhyme or reason to why I was doing them. If your're someone that needs to see the whole picture first and know the principles and theory in order to assist you in learning the smaller parts, this might not work for you. It's like trying to learn reading from phonics when you don't even know the alphabet. The quality of the product was good, the approach just didn't work for me.

Finaly a Great Tai Chi DVD for Women
I've been looking for a Tai Vhi DVD in the Yang Form for ages, this is it. Everything about it is really nicely done... I even took TV outside one day and practiced in the Garden... That was the best. LOL

Really well done DVD
excellent Tai Chi instruction, Very high quality, good clear audio, I'm pretty new to this, but I definately recommend it.

Battle Athletes Victory: Training
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (26 January, 1999)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Battle Athletes Victory
Average review score:

You don't need to like sports to enjoy this one
I was skeptical about this series because I'm not in the least bit interested in sports shows. However, I soon found that this story has a lot of depth, and focuses on friendship and personal growth rather than sports. Actually, the many strange competitions do not even resemble real sports, so much as provide comic relief during crucial moments.

The comparitively low price of these DVDs make this series a value as well. The only thing I should point out is that there are some noticeable compression artifacts during certain episodes, and that the chapter stops are a bit awkward. Overall though, the quality is pretty high for a series that was released when the DVD format was brand new.

This series should also be appropriate for most kids, as the subject matter is pretty mild. However, I should point out that there is some innuendo between a couple of the girls later in the series (tame enough that most kids might not notice though). Also, some of the cultural stereotyping (meant for the sake of comedy) might require some explanation--being somewhat unusual compared to the typical politically-correct American cartoons.

The start of a great, yet underrated show
I picked up this DVD on a whim, remembering seeing an episode several years. And even though it didn't catch my attention when I first saw it, I decided I might as well watch the first volume. What I found was one of the most original and well-made anime series I had ever watched.

Set around three thousand years in the future, Battle Athletes Victory follows several athletes from earth training to become the coveted Cosmo Beauty, the greatest athlete in the universe. Quite a silly premise at first glance, but when you look deeper you will find much, much more: Excellent character development, a smile on your face (or a tear in your eye) at the end of each episode, and a strong plot of friendship and the will to succeed.

The main focus of Battle Athletes Victory is 15-year-old Akari Kanzaki, the daughter of the most famous Cosmo Beauty ever to hold the title, the late Tomoe Midoh. Akari longs to hold the same title her mother did, but unfortunately it doesn't look as if she inherited the skill from her. She's dead last in all the events, which causes her to be depressed whenever she's not competing, hiding in a cardboard box she marked "Akari House". Other main characters include Akari's best friend, Ichino; Tanya, a young girl from Africa who just wants to have a good time; Jessie Gurtland, a determined blond American who wants to follow in Tomoe Midoh's footsteps herself, and thinks that Akari doesn't deserve to; The tomboyish Russian, Ayla Veferascca who is in direct competition with Jessie; and Wong Ling-Pha, the crazy Chinese girl just thrown in for comic relief.

The first volume focuses more on introducing the secondary characters and developing their personalities rather than Akari's, which is a nice change in pace from most anime series where secondary characters are all but ignored. During all this, Akari pretty much stays depressed, which while keeps her quite one-dimensional for now, allows for some great interaction between her and other characters.

Once I bought this first DVD, I couldn't wait for the other volumes to arrive, and I'm sure you'll feel the same way about it if you just give it a chance.

Surprisingly Good
I wasn't expecting much out of this series. It looks like a show for little girls, but some of the cursing means I wouldn't let an 8 year old watch it. There is a lot of depth in this series, especially in later discs. I was actually quite impressed with the subjects the series raised and how the series dealt with these issues. Also, its very funny and the pacing is excellent. I never felt like I was slogging through any sections, even though Akari can get a little annoying in these early episodes.

This series is so underrated and definitely a steal for the DVD price.

The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training
Released in DVD by Paramount Home Video (24 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Michael Pressman
Starring: William Devane and Jackie Earle Haley
Average review score:

Not as good as the first movie but it's alright.
It was alright but not as good as the first movie and even though I like William Devane I was a little disappointed that Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal didn't also star in it but it's a decent movie that I recommend for anyone who likes movies about baseball.

Greatest Sports Film
I saw it in the theaters in '77 when I played little league and never really got over the idea of stealing a van. I liked it better than the original which was good but lacked the depth and incredible climax of the "let them play" scene. Plus, Bob Watson makes a guest appearance. Jackie Earl Haley never got the respect he deserved and probably should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role as Kelly Leak in this film.

Wonderful Movie
I love the Bad News Bears in Breaking Training for two reasons. Its a great movie and its the first movie i saw in the theaters on a 1977 summer afternoon in Bayside, NY. I was 7 at the time when my parents took me. The movie is both funny and heartwarming. Tanner Boyle is still the toughest bear around. I remember after i saw the movie how I idolized Kelly Leak. Great story line with Kelly trying to make amends with his estranged Dad played by William Devane. I highly recommend this movie.
