Juno and the Paycock/Blackmail
Released in DVD by Ryko Distribution - Video (03 April, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Starring: Edward Chapman and Sara Allgood
Average review score:

Framing Woes
As a Hitchcock aficionado, I bought this DVD purely for "Juno and the Paycock." (The early masterpiece, "Blackmail," has long been available.) While the film is of interest to Hitchcock fans, beware this edition: sloppy framing cuts off the actors' heads in nearly half the shots. It won't prevent you from seeing what's good (and what's not so good) about the film, but you'll wish Whirlwind Media had been more careful in putting this package together.

Juno And The Hitchcock
Well, first off, this rating should be around 3 and 3/4 stars instead of just three. Hitchcock films the Sean O'Casey play just as it is. It is one of the first in a tradition of Hitchcock filmed plays. This tradition is that since the play was written for the stage and works best that way, why change the locales and "open" the play up as filmed versions of the play often do? Rope and Dial M For Murder are Hitchcock's greatest examples of this art. Juno and the Paycock is not the best of Hitch's films, but the actors are very good and the story is very interesting. It also shows Hitchcock's continuing transition to sound from just one year earlier. It is definitely worth checking out and is not great, perfect Hitchcock, but good Hitchcock showing his ability to utilize the fresh new sound technology in rather entertaining dialogue. It is worth a look.

A GOOD LOOK AT EARLY HITCH
Most of the very early Hitchcock films are not among my favorites--but perhaps only because his later work is so brilliant.... These two early works never fully succeeded on video, because of the exceedingly poor production quality. This DVD version improves the sound greatly, so that you don't have to strain just to make out the basic words. Hitch's take on the great Sean O'Casey play ("Juno and the Paycock") is well done, though it's a difficult work to render in film, especially during the era in which it was produced. "Blackmail" is, I think, a much better piece of work, and one that lies closer to the British director's heart. You see--in this grainy, miminal film--the seeds of his later brilliance. The plot and tone are definitely Hitchcock, although his skill as a director is still developing. The acting is pretty good, but the writing leaves something to be desired. As a whole, fans of Hitchcock and cinema history should thorougly enjoy this set.

COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
WASN'T AS GOOD AS I THOUGHT,ALTHOUGH I DID ENJOY WATCHING NADINE'S EVERY MOVE. SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH A LITTLE CLASS IN THIS MOVIE.THE OTHER TWO WERE A PEST.ONE WAS A TROUBLEMAKER/FREAK AND THE OTHER WAS A WIFE WHO WANTED TO BE A FREAK BUT WAS TRYING TO ACT NICE IN CASE HERE HUSBAND WATCH THE VIDEO.

Its Aiight!!!!
Its Aiight, Its nothing to write home to mom about, but its worth looking at, if you can blow $20.00 dollars on a dub sack, you can blow $20.00 dollars on this DVD. I gave it 3 stars only because of nadine, she kept me interested. If you wait a few more weeks, you may see it on Mtv or BET. I will say this, viewing this DVD without your dub sack is not reccomended!!!

Its Aiight!!!!
Its Aiight, It aint nothing to write home to mom about, the only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of Nadine, she was worth watching the whole flick, but its worth a peep, if you got 20.00 dollars to burn. I would admit, the women were nice to look at.

Phantom from Space
Released in DVD by Gotham Distribution (24 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: W. Lee Wilder
Average review score:

Bad sci-fi film is no "Killers from Space"!
W. Lee Wilder, brother of Billy Wilder, directed this exciting tale of people sitting around and talking while an invisible space alien flees all who come into his invisible path. Unfortunately, this 1953 clunker is not as beautifully campy and tacky as Wilder's "Killers from Space" or "Snow Creature," though it does feature some hilarious film-noir method acting in the person of a needlessly abusive cop who simply won't take anyone's word for anything. When the lead characters aren't sitting around discussing the obvious, they are running around outside and shouting the obvious. Perhaps this is some primal reaction to the unseen.

Nothing special, but I enjoyed it
W. Lee Wilder had a penchant for making enjoyably average yet largely forgettable science fiction films. In Phantom From Space (1953), he introduces us to a much more agreeable alien than that found in his more familiar Killers From Space of the following year. Okay, so the phantom does kill a few people and cause some serious oil fires, but it's not all his fault. He's just not a people person, you see, what with being invisible and all. He's also not that bright, choosing to ditch his spacesuit and helmet rather than fall into the clutches of the humans on his tail. He needs something akin to a methane gas atmosphere in order to breathe, and a helmet-less jaunt on earth with its oxygen-based atmosphere threatens to cut short his visit in a most significant way.

The film starts out with an unidentified object hurtling from Alaska to the California coast, where the object seems to disappear. Mobile communications folks are sent out to determine the source of interference suddenly wreaking havoc in the area, and these guys keep bumping into cops investigating murders and other acts of destruction. Soon, these different forces team up with an army man and a scientist, and everyone eventually comes to the amazing conclusion that the source of all the trouble is actually a humanoid not of this world. The ending is not exactly a bright and chipper one, but it is just about the only plausible ending possible and, in its own way, it works pretty effectively.

I actually enjoyed Phantom From Space, despite a number of slow scenes in the first half of the film. The actors are reasonably good albeit colorless, and I was amused at the way the lead scientist seemed to become more and more German as the action progressed. There are certain limited parallels between this movie and Monster a Go-Go, and I feel compelled to state that the conclusion of Phantom From Space is far, far better than what you will find in its B-movie cousin. There's nothing here to make this film stand out, but it is a relatively painless and occasionally interesting cinematic diversion.

re-write would have helped
i liked the movie over-all. i liked the old-time mannerisms , these old flics are like windows into the past.
the story tho could have wrapped up better.
the alien kept trying to communicatem but the earthlings just didn't seem too excited about trying to figure out what he was saying. He dies because they are stupider than the crew of a star trek ship who can always find something to modify to solve a mewrely technical problem.
The foot chases are almost like the Keystone cops chases in the old silent movies.
a good movie to watch with friends when you need an opportunity to feel superior and have a laugh at some long dead movie people.

The Best of Backyard Wrestling, Vol. 1: Future Kings of the Ring!
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (30 October, 2001)

Nothin' but fake wrestling!
... This DVD ain't good! ... I thought "Best of Backyard Wrestling, Vol. 1: Future Kings of the Ring!" would be as real ... but it's NOT!

These punks on the video are nothin' but posers! They rip off moves from the REAL wrestlers, make up stupid names for there characters, and fake all there injuries! They set up these ... wrestling rings in their ma & pa's backyard, and tell all they friends to come over and watch. ... Quit yo pretending, cause this video just ain't good!!!

This is hardcore!
This tape has everything a fan of hardcore wrestling could want. It shows amateurs in their backyard wrestling, except its not your daddy's style wrestling. Its hardcore as hell. People get set on fire, do backflips off the roof smashing someone threw a table, piledrived onto a car, get powerbombed and chokeslamed onto lightbulbs, and best of all they use thumbtacks and barbwire... This is not for the weak. This tape has crazy violence, and amazing stunts. If you enjoy wrestling, especially the hardcore style, you will enjoy this tape. Watch, and laugh at bloopers and other silly screw ups. My only complaint is that short segments as interludes between parts of the tape, show a blond bimbo doing poses and showing her big ugly fake breasts at the camera, as if she is somehow desired. The only reason they put this here is to up the sales with from teenage boys. But anyway, watch this if you like ECW or the Japanese Death Matches. This is some crazy stuff. 5 stars. Check it out. Oh yeah, Do not try this at home. ; ]

Cheer!
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (01 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Lacey Taylor
Average review score:

Very Bland
I purchased the video for my daughter, and we were both very disappointed. First of all the length of the video was very short. There was nothing on jumps. They showed only one dance routine. My daughter is so into gymnastics/cheering and this video was no interest to her. I believe it was the worst birthday present she received. Another DVD to collect dust.

A great beginner cheer video
i bought this video being a new cheerleader and it really helped me with the basics.I learned 1 cheer 2-3 sidelines and 1 reapeted cheer. PLUS a great dance routine.I really suggest this for an aspiring cheerleader. but to be a great one do this video everyday or as often as you can and sign up in a gymnastics class which is exactly what im doing.
i plan to try out for my squad next april and i know i will make it from all this video has taught me.(and being in gymnastics)

Dark Universe
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (03 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Steve Latshaw
Average review score:

so so bad...oh so bad....
I am in the video store and i see this title. On the cover, theres a ship, earth and a cryptic phrase reading 'where nightmares come from' and beside this ominous warning, a terrifying specimen of alien! Naturally, i had to rent this serving of corn cob. Within 5 minutes, i was laughing harder than i had in years, hence the second star instead of just one.
Talk about letting the dogs out! This movie is a genuine bowser!
It starts off with a spaceship moving thru space that looked so cheesy, i thought mothra or king ghidora was going to fly up next to it! Inside the ship, blinking lights and panels (ala the original Lost in Space Tv series) start going bezerk. Something is attacking the ship! "Spores!" cries out the pilot (who deserved the academy turkey award he most certainly has on the mantle). He crashes to earth, grows a few feet and walks around with a black garbage bag on his head. And he growls. And he pokes people with his tongue.
Trust me, this is funnier than it sounds. There was more dairy in this film than a wisconsin cheese factory. The plot is a mess of many different films. Alien, The incredible melting man and lifeforce come to mind. Mind you, all of those were real movies (and i say that kind of loosly with melting man).

the red stuff is missing from this one. A few splatters on a tree and some morphed corpses are about all we get here. Theres a few scenes with the obligatory nudity, and one of the lasses is actually fairly easy on the eyes. But alas, it takes more than a pair of chest pillows to save this one.

2 stars.

Another Classic From Steve Latshaw
Director Steven Latshaw (Jack-O, Bio-Hazard) takes us on a rollercoaster of terror, action, and high octane fun. Well, actually, no he doesn't. But if you like bad B-movies than you can't pass up this one. Those of you who liked Jack-O (Latshaw's masterpiece) will love Dark Universe.

Holy Bejesus
Who is this confused individual from Florida calling this turkey a masterpiece? Maybe the "director" lives in Florida? This film is a prime candidate for Mystery Science Theatre. Laughable on all aspects, it can only be called a modern day Ed Wood Film. The music score takes it down even more notches.

A Surprise Hit!
I was impressed with the dimension the director gave to this film as well as the 'edge of your seat' intrigue. A clearly well researched masterpiece! I was most impressed with the budget stipulations of the movie that were so honestly conveyed by the director in his commentary. How brilliant to achieve the effects, and the intensity so successfully portrayed. I foresee many great things to come from this director.

Divorce His, Divorce Hers
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (26 October, 1999)

Director: Waris Hussein

Fatuous beyond belief!
This is the absolute nadir of Burton and Taylor's history together. Originally made a made-for-TV movie in 1973, it was abysmally reviewed then (for good reason) and has been the subject of ridicule ever since. The only reason to watch this turkey is for the campy element. Neither Burton nor Taylor were sober during the making of this bomb, and their inebriation provides a few good laughs. The script is non-existent, the acting is uniformly awful and the plot is ludicrously transparent. A true bomb.

A CLASSIC B MOVIE WITH LEGENDARY STARS
WORTH THE MONEY TO SEE THIS CLASSIC MOVIE, STRANGE BUT A TRUE CLASSIC

I'll tell you why
I would have given this 4 stars if it weren't for the lousy video and terrible audio....... George can't seem to play as fast as he used to but he is still an excellent guitar player. Don is having a little trouble hitting the higher notes but it's not enough to hurt the songs. I'm actually surprised Dokken released a DVD of this horrible quality. He should fire the sound engineer on this one. Don't get me wrong, I love this band but this DVD was a big disappointment.

Awesome George Lynch-era Dokken (electric) show!!!
This is an essential purchase for any/ all Dokken fans. There are 16 tracks, NOT inc. some excellent bonus material. After a very good (albeit slightly uninspired...?)start of some "Tooth and Nail" (etc.)-era material, the band REALLY gets cooking from track 5 onward...SMOKING is more like it! The band is in amazing form from this point onward; sensational. My favorites? "I Will Remember" (smokes the good version from "One Live Night"), "Alone Again" (moving vocals by Don), "Mr. Scary" (George Lynch for Guitar God!), "Long Way Home", Shadows of Life", and "Unchain The Night"...but they're all great. What can I say? BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
