Sherlock Holmes - TV Classics
Released in DVD by Gotham Distribution (21 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Jack Gage and Steve Previn

The Sherlock Holmes English TV series
My wife and I both love the Rathbone movie series on Holmes and Watson. For a different take you should try the Ron Howard and Marion Crawford series. Holmes is more likeable and Watson is the star of the show, but both are very engaging to watch. Certainly worth the few dollars for several nights of entertainment. If you love Rathbone and hate Jeremy Brett, you should like this series.

Sin Sisters
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (22 July, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Tony Marsiglia
Average review score:

A "Different" Erotic Thriller
Don't let the cover art fool you, this isn't a movie about a couple gun-toting, hell-raising sisters. It's actually a very moody, deliberately-paced psychological thriller (with the expected erotic elements of course). Director Tony Marsiglia once again turns the conventional SC formula on its ear, bringing us a different style we're not used to seeing from the company. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed SIN SISTERS despite the fact that it's less like a b-movie and more serious in tone. Misty and Julian are both as intense as ever, both deliver what I consider to be their most dynamic performances so far. But in my view, the real gem in SIN SISTERS is Misty's real-life half sister Chelsea Mundae, who plays the other half of our title duo. I always remember her from her small role in VAMPIRE'S SEDUCTION, because she had a very original way of saying her lines, and had an expressive face. She didn't show up in anything else until this years' LORD OF THE G-STRINGS, in an extremely small role as a barmaid. Also, those who've watched the deleted scenes from Terry West's SATAN'S SCHOOL FOR LUST may recognize her from the opening love scene. Chelsea is awesome, and quickly became my favorite thing about SIN SISTERS. She's got a unique quality about her, can't quite put my finger on what it is. I just hope they start using her more. In my opinion, her performance was vital to the effectiveness and intensity of the film. Honestly, if I had to pick out any problem with the film, it's that Chelsea didn't do near as many nude scenes as the rest of the cast. That may have been her choice, or it may have been seen as more appropriate for the character, but I've only seen SC hold back when they think an actress may not be as appealing to their audiences. The only reason I say this is because in the little info booklet that came with SIN SISTERS, they seem to be afraid that SC audiences might find Chelsea to be older and bigger than their usual starlets, and thus turned off by her. Personally, I would like SC to continue casting women like Chelsea in their films, particularly in lead roles. She's an incredible actor, and great-looking as well. I don't think SC has anything to be concerned about!

Slice of Death
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (22 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

Very Good
Though not as good as David Chiang's "Shaolin Mantis", "Slice of Death" is quite good. The training sequences and fights aren't believable but enjoyable. I recommend this after you've seen better choices like: "Executioners From Shaolin", "Shaolin Master Killer", "Invincible Pole Fighter", "Shaolin Mantis", "Fists of the White Lotus", and "Five Deadly Venoms".

Sound of Horror
Released in DVD by Gotham Distribution (24 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Ingrid Pitt
Average review score:

Ingrid Pitt Dances!
"Sound Of Horror" is about some treasure hunters, searching the caves of Athens for a legendary stash of gold and jewels. Unfortunately for them, they use dynamite and blast open a prehistoric nest, complete with football-sized eggs! Andre (Antonio Casas) takes one of the eggs home, where we meet the rest of the folks, including Ingrid Pitt! She does quite a little dance number! Meanwhile, back at the cave, another egg hatches, releasing a fast-growing, invisible monster. It soon reaches humongous proportions, and man is it mad! It has a scream like a banshee with a kidney stone! The thing quickly kills one of the treasure hunters by ripping him open and draining his blood. Pretty graphic for 1965! From here on the movie is about our heroes' last stand. They defend themselves by hiding in the house. The creature attacks several times, killing a few more hapless victims (Don't worry, Ingrid Pitt lives on!). Andre ends up sacrificing himself by blasting it with more high explosives. Alas, it's all for naught, as the monster survives. What is it? Can it be killed? Watch it and find out. Lots of neat little twists and false endings. Check it out...

The Stand-In
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (25 February, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Roberto Monticello

A sweet movie about following your dreams
Bought this film because I am a fan of Kelly ripa's and she is very good, but I was touched by the dear little film that shows the very difficult aspect of trying to make it as an actor.

I REALLY enjoyed the subplot including the wonderful performance of A Differnt World's Lou Myers, as the former Negro League baseall player that the main character befriends in the nursing home. He was funny brash and poignant.

Photography was nothing special, many medium shots, but just a sweet tale that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Street Ball - The And 1 Mix Tape Tour
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (08 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
So who was on the team roster of 2002's 25-city Mix Tape Tour of less-than-elegant hoops? "The best ballers not in the league," says one of the tour's den mother/producer types, referring to such instinctive, street-smart-though-not-quite-NBA caliber basketball players as Ao, Hot Sauce, Skip to My Lou, and the Main Event. This eight-episode documentary series about the And 1 team's summertime goodwill pass through Boston, Cleveland, New York, and elsewhere is dazzling entertainment, a showcase for the guys' collective charm, well-earned hubris, and sense of fellowship with home ballers everywhere. Much of the footage is off-court: life on the bus, endless radio interviews, clowning with the public, demonstrating for kids. The ordinary stuff is often more fun than the court activity. A second disc includes the team's complete game in Atlanta. --Tom Keogh

String Cheese Incident - Live at the Fillmore
Released in DVD by Bmg Distribution (VI (21 October, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

Itchin' For An Incident?
If you have been waiting for a excellent String Cheese DVD then this is it. A introduction to the band like Evolution it is not. A ski video reminiscing about home like Waiting For The Snow To Fall it is not. What it is, is a chunk of live Cheese (some damn good cheese) you can shelf and pick up whenever you are itchin' for an incident.

Featuring SCI live in Denver in 2002, Live At The Fillmore showcases the band in top form. From the minute Billy takes of his shoes to the last notes of Rollover, this DVD delivers. The set-list while (in my opinion) not the best I've heard, still includes solid bluegrass mixed in with the bands rockin'/jammy sound. Special features are limited but who needs them when you get special guests Bill Kruetzman (The Dead) and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and members of Kentucky Thunder joining the band on stage?

All in all, cheese fans can't go wrong purchasing this one. It blows all the other Cheese DVD's out of the water, pirate style! If you are new to String Cheese, I suggest CD's first(Carnival '99 and some On The Road albums - 7/5/02 and 3/22/03 are stellar) and if you like what you hear, check this out when you get the chance.

Taebo - Ultimate Abs/Butt
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (22 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Billy Blanks
Average review score:

Another addition to TaeBo
I am in my mid-twenties and have worked out to TaeBo Live series about 6 months before trying these. So I consider myself to be in fair to average "shape", and I still had a very tough time with the floor exercises that come at the end of each workout. The grueling but rather effective floor exercises are when I felt the actual abs and glute muscles 'work' the most. You will be on your feet the first portion of these workouts doing traditional TaeBo moves. These Ultimate Abs and Butt are both advanced workouts compared to my experience with TaeBo. In other words, if you try these having not worked out in a while or are out of shape, they'll be considerably difficult to finish (especially the floor exercises). You need to have completed at least the TaeBo Instructional and preferrably the TaeBo Basic programs before you attempt this. Billy Blanks is a good motivator, but it's slighty annoying that he doesn't finish each repetition set with you (you'll see). He demonstrates the movement several times then moves around to the other class members that are working out as he "cheerleads" them and the viewer to complete the reps. I would rather see him complete each workout as the viewer has to do. The upbeat music is in tune with the exercises and is motivating. These workouts are not perfect and while each movement is adequately demonstrated sometimes the reps move too quickly which can be dangerous to keep proper positioning. The reps for each side for example left and right leg are NOT always even. Lastly, this is a series of several different classes worth of exercises (supposedly the butt and abs targeting portions) assembled as a complete workout. That is to say, you can see Billy's and the class members outfits change every few minutes. That is different from the TaeBo Live programs which are start to finish taped workouts with the same people exercising. That difference may not bother many people, but I prefer the live style. Though not suggested in/ on the product, I think that you will need an exercise mat to be comfortable on the floor for as long as the abs and butt floor exercises take (better for back of head, knees and general comfort). You luckily don't need any special equipment, but a chair to hold on to for the standing part of the workout might help. The butt workout is around 40 minutes, and the abs workout is just under an hour. Overall, I don't regret purchasing as I got two different, complete workouts on one DVD, and I would recommend this product given my guidelines above.
