Manu Chao: Babylonia En Guagua
Released in DVD by Emi Distribution (15 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Manu Chao
Average review score:

Classic!!!!
I must say I was a bit skeptical when I bought this. For one I spend over $30 at my local record shop and two I wasn't sure how dynamic Manu would be live on stage! Let me tell you all it was very much worth it and I regret not going to see him perform live before. Hopefully one day I will!

Great, great, great!
For those who are unable to see Manu Live. This DVD will provide a bit of what it is like to be there. I highly recommend for those Mano Negra, Manu Chau's fan.

Aguante Manu chao!!

Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (19 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

God save the Sex Pistols!
This is a fantastic DVD for any longtime fan of the SEX PISTOLS, anyone curious about the beginnings of English "punk" or anyone just passionate about rock music. We are treated to candid and relaxed interviews with the important characters involved in bringing this great album to life.

I think this makes a great companion documentary to THE FILTH AND THE FURY; a fine documentary, kind of using the anti-gloss, cut-up approach for highlighting the influences, the rise, the fall and impact of the SEX PISTOLS. For me, NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS has never grown old, the music brilliantly simple. In addition, knowing the history of the band, it makes the music that much richer. On this documentary - John Lydon speaks fondly to the comic, almost camp feel at the heart of this album. Steve Jones laments that if they hadn't kicked Glen out, if they didn't do the Bill Grundy show - there may have been more albums from the SEX PISTOLS.

The bonus material is simply stuff that was excised from the main event of this DVD, because it strays away from the subject of the album itself. It is possible this was originally aired as a series on television, and they had to trim everything for interest of time? Whatever the case, I wish they just presented it as a whole - all included. The bonus material can only be viewed section by section, and that can get tiring after a while. Not a major complaint, really.

I'm glad I bought this DVD; it provides a fresh view to a notoriously underrated band. I recommend it highly.

Never Mind the Filth and Fury... Get this one.
This wonderfully researched DVD goes beyond the tired old "punk" myth to illustrate the people behind it all. Sure there is still some of that bile spewed toward Malcolm, but this goes beyond. It's a much more light-hearted (and truthful) look at the band than the much-hyoed Filth and Fury film. Reminds me of the Sex Pistols version of the Clash's From Westway to the World.

From Out Of Nowhere Comes This Little Gem...
As other reviewers have mentioned, this nifty little documentary will take you by surprise and throw you for a loop. Upon initial examination of the case, I was half expecting a cheesy VH-1 or MTV-style piece, poorly researched and rehashing facts and half-truths that us Sex Pistols fans have heard told over and over again. The cliche about not judging a book, er, DVD, by its cover is especially apropos here since the producers have really done their homework and managed to gather revelatory interview footage from all of the culprits involved in the making of the band's "only" (God, does that term rankle me - doesn't "The Great Rock & Roll Swindle" count?) album, including the band (minus Sid of course), Malcolm McLaren, producer Chris Thomas, engineer Bill Price, and record company man Nick Mobbs. Interspersed with the interviews are clips of the band playing live in clubs and on TV and generally wreaking havoc in and around London ("The Bill Grundy Show" anyone?), most of which are familiar to fans of the band, but which never seem to get old. Of particular interest is learning that John Lydon can actually let his guard down and smile (and should do so more often - it suits him), Steve Jones demonstrating just how he gets that guitar sound by effortlessly casting off patented wall-of-noise riffs from his white Les Paul, and Price showing how he combined guitar, bass, drum and vocal tracks in the studio to create a big, beautiful din that a thousand Nirvanas couldn't come close to duplicating if their lives depended on it. Loaded with extras, including an additional segment of Jones basically showing off on guitar (I know I'm dwelling on Jones, but I'm fascinated by the technology of guitars and amps and he's so amiable you just want to buy him a pint) and crystal clear live footage shot in Stockholm, this wonderful disc demands a look. Highly recommended!

Can I Go Now
Released in DVD by Bmg Distribution (VI (17 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Jennifer Love Hewitt
Average review score:

So much fun to watch!
The DVD single "Can I Go Now" is an absolute treat. It features the music videos for "Can I Go Now" and "Barenaked," both directed by Liz Friedlander. A photo gallery is also included, which features 9 great snapshots. The picture and sound quality is superb. This is a must-have for all Jennifer Love Hewitt fans.

Don't let her go before buying this DVD
I don't really write reviews but I thought I would for this one just because I think it is something people should take a look at. The DVD includes the first two music videos from Jennifer Love Hewitt's last album, "Barenaked". The first song "Can I Go Now?" is focused on questioning what the purpose is of continuing on in a troubled relationship, while "Barenaked" is about the insecurities everyone feels in life. Both are fun, hook-filled pop/rock songs, and Love's voice really goes well with these two tracks. The videos are both very high quality transfers, everything looks and sounds great, and I personally think "Can I Go Now?" really stands out as a video. There is also a bonus photo gallery included with the DVD with some promotional photos. If you are a fan of Jennifer, or her type of music, I think you will be very pleased with this item. On a side note, this is the first DVD single I've bought, and I hope record companies embrace them in the future, it could really help make buying singles worthwhile again. I think anybody else who buys this will see what I'm talking about.

Can I Go Now- Jennifer Love Hewitt
Jennifer Love Hewitt, one's of America's most talented and lovable women, has come so far and worked so hard on her videos for this DVD. The two music videos on this DVD are: Can I Go Now and Barenaked. She sings resplendently and her efforts to ameliorate life and the human beings around her are astonishing.
She has an ideal intellect to sing what's on her mind and act at the same time. What I mean is that she is an artist who speaks for herself, acting, dancing, and singing. She is unlike most music artists who try to change the way they look or appear. She is happy for who she is and doesn't care if she's wearing an old black T-shirt with some faded out pants, or a hot red mini skirt and a push-up bra. She has always wanted to have a music album of her own and this by far has been her most consequential project of her life. In these videos you she the real Jennifer Love Hewitt, the young Texas girl, who grew up to achieve her greatest dream. Jennifer, if you ever read this I want you to know that you are one of the most extraordinary, outstanding, conspicuous, and eminent person to have existed in my time, and you have been most invigorating and meaningful women to my life.

Chemical Brothers: Singles 93-03
Released in DVD by Emi Distribution (30 September, 2003)

LONG TIME COMING
Chemical Brothers fans have long awaited a video/live dvd from the masters and I would say it's been worth the wait. What an awesomely put together dvd. Even the menus are class. Having been at the red rocks show, I admired how its footage perfectly captures the mayhem that ensued after the blistering opener hey boy, hey girl. And as for the other live bits, they're worth the price of admission alone, especially the Japan footage, simply jaw-dropping. But you also get the promos and interviews which only add to the future classic status of this dvd. Some of the best videos of the last ten years of course line up to show the Chem's might. 'The Test' is an instant classic with amazing visuals, and 'The Golden Path' is a very positive and uplifting piece of genius as a video and track. Excellent DVD.

CHEM BROS RULE!!!
the Chemical Brothers are the best techno duo in the world! i was praying over the years that a dvd can be released. my prayers have been answered with 'singles 93-03'. this is a must own! all the videos by the chem bros are terrific. 'star guitar' directed by michel gondry is 1 video i haven't seen before and it is very very inventive if you look at the video oh so carefully which is a train ride but again look closely and hear the song's beats. click on the making of the video where gondry uses graph paper, a pen, sketches, oranges, forks, books &....he is weird but a genius. another great video is 'hey boy hey girl' w/ a girl's fascination w/ bones and skeletons-she becomes sooo obsessive with the subjects that she SEES only skeletons thru humans and animals. 'elektrobank' featuring sofia coppola as a gymnast and directed by spike jonze, her hubby. listen to the commentary---sure doesn't sound like jonze especially the accent. there are other fine videos and extras and live concerts. a lotta fun! i will buy the singles 93-03 cd. i love the chem bros!

Block Rockin' DVD!
This DVD contains both promo and live videos as well as interviews. The promo videos and live videos are really awesome. The live videos contains really cool strobing effects and visualities. The interviews features Tom Rowlands & Ed Simmons (The Chemical Brothers, themselves), Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Bernard Sumner of New Order, Richard Ashcroft formerly of The Verve, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim, himself), Beth Orton and Tim Burgess as well as video directors. The videos are as listed below:

Life Is Sweet
Setting Sun
Block Rockin' Beats
Elektrobank
Hey Boy Hey Girl
Let Forever Be
Out Of Control
Star Guitar
The Test
The Golden Path (brand new video)

The live videos are as follows below:

Hey Boy Hey Girl - Live from Red Rocks 1999
Hoops/Setting Sun - Live from Fuji Festival 2002
Temptation/Star Guitar - Live from Fuji Festival 2002
Chemical Beats - Live from Glastonbury 1997
The Private Psychedelic Reel - Live from Glastonbury 2000

There are three ways to watch the videos on this DVD. You can watch the promo videos only, the live videos only or both in crhonological order. There is also 'The Private Reels' with behind the scene footage of The Chemical Brothers. It's really cool and kinda funny. This DVD is a must have for every true Chemical Brothers fan.

Warning: This DVD contains strobing effects which may affect some viewers with photo-sensitive epilepsy or other such condition.

Menikmati
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (02 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Eric Koston
Average review score:

one of the best skate vids
Going into Menikmati the documentary feel in the beginning made me worry a bit. I've got absolutely nothing against a skating documentary but after seeing the names of the eS team members I could not wait to see their skate parts. Luckily, Menikmati doesn't disapoint. It has an overly formulaic structure of including a skater intro followed by a regular skate part and then a slow-mo section, but the skating is so amazing that it doesn't really take away from your enjoyment (although I will say that the regular motion shots included as a dvd extra were so much more entertaining than their slow-mo counterparts and I've watched that montage in regular motion again and again). Tom Penny sticks out as always. His skating and the intro to his part really caught my attention and it was great to see on the dvd extras a chance to look at penny skating from a young age and watching that progression as he developed his skating skills over the years. Highly, highly recommended!

best skate film ever
This isnt your standard skate video, in fact this is a skate film. It is beautifully shot, and the use of intro's, slow motion, and documentry type footage for each skater is pure genious. But the best part of this DVD, besides the extra footage....the skating of course. Eric Koston's part (which is the best by far) is a fitting end to such a great montage of skate clips. In fact you see so much great skating before you get to Eric Koston, that you almost forget to recognize how great Koston really is. If you're into street skating you will enjoy parts by Sarri, Creager, McCrank, Penny, and Koston....but if Vert is your forte, don't worry cuz Burnquist fills that void great. The music here is also the best I have ever heard for a skate film. It's not your usual punk or rap, but instead more relaxed and synced with the actual skating that is occuring. And perhaps the music is the best part of this all. There is so much to see and experience with this..if at all you want to see what great filming and skating, and music is all about then get this now! It is a work of art.

kicking it
It would seem that with the popularity of Tony Hawk Pro Skater(1,2,3,4) that most skate videos have sought to become super intense affairs which feature skaters just trying to go as big as possible, accompanied by an equally intense soundtrack. However, this is not the case for Menikmati. For the eS team it is about keeping it low-key and relaxed while putting down some sweet footage. While there are some big rails and stair sets, as well as, vert it is really the techinical aspects of the skating which makes this movie truly noteworthy. Combine great skating with some amazing worldwide backdrops and a layed back soundtrack Menikmati succeeds in going against the main stream current of popular skating while still producing an enjoyable and progressive movie. The icing on the cake is Tom Penny's segment; plus, the DVD has great extra footage.

Ranma 1/2: Random Rhapsody - The Complete Sixth Season Boxed Set
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (16 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating:
The sixth broadcast season of Ranma 1/2 includes some of the silliest entries in a continuity known for its silliness: a seaside resort is terrorized by a ceramic octopus trap, and upperclassman/school gasbag Kuno is stricken with amnesia after a watermelon gets stuck on his head. But at times, the premises feel decidedly thin. When Akane is kidnapped by a Minotaur-like monster (the adult version of a baby Happosai bathed in the most accursed spring at Jusenkyo--the one in which a Yeti riding an ox carrying a crane carrying an eel drowned), Ranma and the gang discover there are worse fates than turning into a girl--or a monster. Director Junji Nishimura spoofs Japanese monster movies in "Scribbled Panda," as a Kabuki-style spider and demon emerge from a Chinese scroll to attack a carnival. But the most horrible beast is an icky-cute little drawing who develops a crush on Ranma: it's like Hello Kitty on a rampage. Ranma's furious when a newcomer who practices Martial Arts Calligraphy won't accept a challenge because Ranma's handwriting is so atrocious. The filmmakers balance the slapstick by making kindness an element in the way Ranma, Akane, and Ryoga defeat a Snow-Woman (Yuki-onna) and a bizarre Abominable Snowman who threaten to turn Furinkan into an outdoor icebox. Telepathic boy Satori sums up the series when he visits the Tendo-Saotomi household and screams, "The people in this house are weird!" (Rated 13 and older: brief nudity, slapstick violence) --Charles Solomon
Average review score:

I named my Kool-aid after this series!
Unlike the other episodes in this series, this was the first season I saw where Akane and Ranma actually got along...for the most part. The episodes in this are definitely random. There are two, 2-part episodes, but the rest are clearly undefined amoungst one another.

The episodes are more based upon Akane and Ranma, as Ryoga, Ukyo, and Shampoo really didn't have much screen time (and I was hoping for Ryoga and Ukyo!). Of course, this isn't a bad thing. Some of the episodes are great, while others are "okay, that was dumb." But even those "dumb" ones are funny.

Akane and Ranma actually get along in a few episodes, something I was waiting SOOO long to see! Kuno makes more appearences than usual, being in about every other episode....but he is quite the character when he does! Definitely not eh serious Blue Thunder of FH as he was in the first season!

The last disk is the only one with special features, and they aren't too amazing. Just similar features other DVDs would have.

Some episodes are funny, while a few are just beautiful (cry). I recommend this for any fan. It isn't the most cohesive season, but it is definitely entertaining!

(Oh, and th eKool-aid we drank while watching it was an orange powder that turned green in water and tasted like strawberries. We call it Random Rhapsody now. Yeah!)

And more!
Hilariously funny! The beginning seemed a bit dry at first but it really kicked up bringing out more goofy episodes to laugh over! It's a great box set for all Ranma Lovers, but of course there will aways be a couple episodes where "ok, kind of stupid" but they always end up great anyway. The last episode leaves you hanging for more!

Good season for all Ranma lovers!
Although this season doesn't quite come close to the first season, it is a very funny one. It is way better than season 5 because of taro and hikaru, characters from the manga, coming in.

This season is perfect for all ranma collectors, although the newer peoplewill want to start from the beginning and work your way up here. Although there isn't as much character development as in the manga, ranma 1/2 season six will make you laugh again and again.

Angela Gheorghiu - Live from Covent Garden
Released in DVD by Emi Distribution (21 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Angela Gheorghiu
Angela Gheorghiu first captured international attention in 1994 and rose rapidly to first-class star status. This 2001 recital, from the same opera house where her La traviata set the audience and critics on fire, shows the qualities that have made her one of the most acclaimed opera singers working today.

Gheorghiu's best-known roles are in the romantic and verismo operas of the 19th and early 20th centuries, sampled here in beautifully interpreted arias of Massenet, Charpentier, Puccini, and Cilea. In this music, her identification with the role is total, her voice tonally opulent, emotionally expressive, and exquisitely controlled. When her selections venture outside that rather restricted category, the results are equally impressive. A charming novelty is the folk-flavored aria by Romanian composer Tiberiu Brediceanu. Gheorghiu's 18th-century arias give Handel and Mozart a refreshing energy, and she is captivating in "I could have danced all night." The disc is in widescreen anamorphic format with DTS, Dolby Digital 5.0, and PCM stereo sound, and EMI's booklet is a model of what all DVD releases should offer but seldom do. --Joe McLellan

Average review score:

Beautiful in every way
Angela Gheorghiu has obviously received great training in cultivating her natural talent, and the result is phenomenal. I can't get enough of this woman. I like the musical choices on this DVD. It's not the standard greatest hits material. It's all wonderful, but Casta Diva and the Romanian aria are particularly fantastic.

A treasure
I personally don't believe Angela Gheorghiu is the "next Callas"--she's not neurotic enough. She has a beautiful voice, excellent control, wonderful accuracy of pitch and timing, and she sings from the depths of her heart, living the piece. Absolutely charming. But she's not a Callas. The Callas fire simply isn't there; no tempestuous wild animal quality to sear your soul. But that doesn't mean Angela Gheorghiu isn't great to watch and to listen to. And this concert is beautifully recorded--the Dolby Digital sound is fantastic, with a superb balance between the orchestra and the diva (although when we hear the applause, it sounds as though it's coming through a tunnel), but the concert sound is as close to perfect as we find these days. The concert itself is also well balanced with a good range of very beautiful music. It's a great addition to my collection, and I'll listen to it often. You won't be disappointed--unless you're expecting Callas.

The 21th century Callas
Though she's very original and proud of it, Gheorghiu is really the new Callas; she can sing anything, with a superb sense of stage and style, a warm and beautiful voice with a strong technique based on the very Bel Canto italian school.
The highest results are obtained with Charpentier's Louise, Puccini's Liù and Bellini's Norma.
At least a true opera star, and also a Beauty. I'm looking forward to her next concert to be captured in dvd.
Buy it !!!!

Thank God for these Guys!
I have listed to DC Talk since the early days. I have bought every album as each has been released. All I can say is that I wish that this had been released years ago. It is encouraging to see these guys truly trying to please God through it all. It comes through in their music, and it comes through in this DVD: Toby, Mike and Kevin have their hearts on God and so should we.

Fantastic!
This DVD is a must for any DC TALK fan! If your like me and not only like a bands music, but you like to find out about behind the scenes and other stuff about them then this is for you! I have been a DC TALK fan for many years now and have all their albums, singles, videos etc and this just tops off my collection! Thanks guys! Buy it!

Free At Last the movie is a MUST OWN for all DC Talk fans
I bought the DVD for my kids for Christmas... :) We all enjoyed watching the behind the scenes perspective intermixed with excellent music videos of some of the key songs on the CD.

The story line was not "scripted" but it was more of a reality/documentary style with interviews of Mike, Kevin, and Toby (and others) interspersed with behind the scenes footage of the Free At Last Tour.

The visual quality of the movie was OK (being a series of video taped scenes from the tour). The editing was absolutly fabulous. I cannot think of another movie of this genre that I enjoyed more.

It truly is a MUST SEE dvd. Heck, for $...

Erotic Vampire in Paris
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (28 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Donald Farmer
Average review score:

Some really hot moments!
While I love Misty Mundae, I really thought the hottest scene on this video was before Miss Mundae even appeared. Mia Copa is the beautiful and sexy vampire, and there's a scene near the start where she brings home a lovely female tourist who delights in taking her picture. Mia talks to the woman as she removes her clothes, and I just found it incredibly sexy. As the woman begins fondling her beautiful nude body, Mia warns her that she's playing a very dangerous game. Needless to say, it ends up with Mia biting her. Still, it was a very hot scene while it lasted. Misty's later scenes were alright, but that one was the best. And then, later still, they add a guy and it pretty much goes downhill after that.

An impressive dramatic performance by Misty Mundae
An Erotic Vampire in Paris is several cuts above your typical Seduction Cinema film. The eroticism is very subdued and far from graphic, while the storyline is actually quite serious and atmospheric. Misty Mundae shines in her dramatic portrayal of the innocent young girl Caroline who has journeyed to Paris to pay her respects to her recently deceased mother. After a somber scene at the gravesite, Caroline finds herself attacked and robbed by a stranger. With no money and almost no hope to speak of, she is taken in by the strange but mesmerizing Isabel (played by Mia Copia aka Tina Krause), whom we (being the audience) already know to be a vampire. The budding relationship is a strange one, with Isabel assuming an authority role at first by making Caroline eat off of the floor like a dog, but the two women come to develop a loving relationship of sorts. There is one memorable scene reflecting a vivid internal struggle in Isabel, as she bares those nice fangs of hers only to hold back each time she reaches the brink of piercing Caroline's throat. We watch the strange relationship between vampire and vulnerable young lady grow, but the whole effect of the film is somewhat diminished by a scene in which the ladies allow a super-geek to follow them home and join them in the bathtub. Personally, I don't like seeing the grubby hands of a male touching Miss Mundae, especially such geeky hands as this fellow possesses. The movie does recover and finish quite strongly, culminating in a scene that rather surprised and certainly impressed me.

While one sees plenty of Misty in her birthday suit throughout this film, An Erotic Vampire in Paris is really not very sexually explicit. There is really only one scene involving the sort of provocative lesbian encounters one is accustomed to in a film of this sort. Thus, the viewer just wanting to see soft porn may well be disappointed. As a horror fan, I was quite impressed with the look and feel of the vampiric blood feasts. Copia does a great job of bearing her fangs and impaling them on the tender necks of her victims, and there is a satisfying amount of blood as a result. Still, though, I would classify this as drama more than erotic horror. The range of emotions shown by Misty Mundae distinguishes her as a serious dramatic actress, and it is her wonderful performance that makes this film as compelling and mesmerizing as it most certainly is.

Misty Mundae Is GREAT!
Actually a decent movie! Misty Mundae is terrific and if your a fan, this is MUST own!
Thank you GOD! For creating Misty!

Monkeys would shake their tais high!
This is a great dvd that any dedicated GOrillaz fan should own! It is filled with many things including videos and concert showings! Some complaints that I have is how the concert is only 1 song. Why can't it be the whole thing???
Also I wish the 5/4 video was finished. Finally, I CANT FIND THE SECRET STUFF!
Other than that, it is a great dvd!! I like the videos for CLINT EASTWOOD, Lil' DUB CHEFIN', and 19/2000! Also, the Tour of the Website is hiarious!
Any dedicated GOrillaz fan should geet this cd, NOW!
WHAT ARE U WAITING FOR????????????????

Waste no time! Buy now to avoid mediocrity!
Sheer socks-knocking-off brilliance. I've always been a big fan of Jamie Hewlett's work, this DVD is chockablock full of his warped characters doing what they do best. I thought the Gorillaz Web-Site Tour was particularly funny - "Lets see whats on the radio shall we? Oh, what a surprise - it's Gorillaz.". Buy Buy Buy!

Sheer brilliance to say the least
This DVD is very very very good it contains every video all the storyboards and animatics it has the amazing ground breaking Brits performance (in 3-D) and a nice little secret section and many live clips and the unfinished video for 5/4(very good to) i personally dont see how anyone can not want this it is simply the sexiest piece of plastic with booklet on the planet
