Ski Movie III: The Front Line
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (31 December, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Seth Morrison

enough cliffs already
It gets boring watching guys do the same roll/flip off a cliff repeatedly for an hour. The first two Ski Movies offered much more variety and more adrenalized editing.

Ski Movie 3: If you buy any ski movie, BUY THIS ONE
This was the abosulute best ski movie I've seen in a while. Sweet Tricks. Sweet Big Mountain stuff, Sweet skiiers, An Unbelieveable soundtrack, and even a snowmobile segment. The crevasse segment was amazing as well. This movie has amazing cinematography, and the video matches the sound perfectly. I've see a lot of ski movies this year, and this was by far the best, and best presented one to date. For those wondering, here is a list of songs (From the credits, in the order they are in the movie):

"Feel so Numb" Rob Zombie

"Invincible" Capone and Noreaga

"A Need To Escape" Souldivider

"Trouble" Cypress Hill

"This Life" Primer 55

"Rock Star" N.E.R.D.

"Killing Spree" Swollen Members

"Burn it Black" Injected

"Now or Never" Dope

"Madness" DELTRON 3030

"Take Your Best Shot" Dope

Sammy Hagar & the Waboritas - The Long Road to Cabo
Released in DVD by Bmg Distribution (VI (23 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Sammy Hagar
The Long Road to Cabo is a delightful documentary about rock & roll fellowship, featuring Sammy Hagar as the founder of a summer-long feast of heavy metal, Van Halen memories, and many bared female bosoms (in Hagar's audiences, that is). Looking more like a mellow, mid-life surfer than hairy rock icon from the 1980s, the ever-expansive Hagar leads the Waboritas through a long, hot 2002 tour, sharing a bill with David Lee Roth, Hagar's co-outcast from Van Halen. Despite their shared ignominy, Roth rebuffs Hagar's efforts at collaboration, or at least camaraderie, resulting in a competitive and entertainingly catty atmosphere.

One can't help but enjoy a vicarious high watching the demographically diverse Waboritas rumble and squawk through Hagar's classic repertoire, mixing it up onstage with old pals Ted Nugent and Michael Anthony, and even welcoming Gary Cherone, Hagar's replacement in Van Halen, into the fold. The feature-length "Long Road" offers plenty of strong, occasionally hypnotic performances, especially "Heavy Metal," "When It's Love," and a rehearsal fling with Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35."

A second disc conveniently packs four hours of essential Hagar history and miscellany onto one disc, including batches of music videos (from the vintage "Little White Lies" to the recent, and quite agreeable, "Things've Changed") with and without Hagar's commentary and sing-along lyrics. Those versions featuring the loquacious Hagar's recollections are pretty entertaining and sometimes surprising. It turns out, for example, that his and Eddie Van Halen's neighboring houses in "Hands and Knees" (in which Hagar's shouts awake the sleeping guitarist) were not a fantasy backdrop but the real deal. Also on disc 2 is ancient performance footage, handwritten lyric sheets, a documentary about Hagar's career, a photo album, and, most importantly, a session in Sammy's kitchen making spaghetti sauce the way Granddad taught him. --Tom Keogh

The Long Road to Cabo - A Journey by Sammy Hagar
If you want to "get it", you'll get this DVD. If you saw the Birthday Bash DVD, you know what gets to Sammy. This DVD starts where the Birthday Bash leaves off. It is the same s!#% on some other level. It is so honest and raw. Gary Cherone tells us he is the real deal. His wife Kari tells us about it when she describes how he fell in love with her. Sammy himself talks about it when he is talking about how David Lee Roth's tour bus hit some poor fan's car.
This DVD really does put it all together for you. Its not the aliens who are moving Sammy Hagar. It's what dreams are made of, it comes walking in, it's in three lock box, I could go on and on....

The only thing that would make this DVD any more personal and pure would be the commentary from his beautiful daughters, Kama and Samantha to show the side of Sammy out of the mouths of babes.

In my opinion, if this DVD were put in front of true critics, it would be worthy of an oscar - - for a musician.

What is understood, need not be discussed.

Awesome
This DVD is the closest thing to being back stage at a Sammy Hagar live show. A totally energized display of what Sammy does best-ROCK. The second DVD has classic videos and other interesting bits of Sammy-ness that it makes this DVD a total bargain at whatever price you pay. This DVD is just another example of how underrated Sammy is in the music biz and by the entertainment media.

A Documentary with Heart
Ever wonder what it's like to be in "Sammy's World"? This DVD gives you that glimpse into what really goes on before, during, and after a national tour. It's got all the songs you would expect to see, but this DVD is more about the man and his life than just another concert video. It's obvious how much this DVD meant to Sammy. His whole family shows up half way through it discussing how Sammy got to where he is today. The additional undercurrent of the Sam and David Lee Roth tour, and all its pageantry, makes a great story for even the non-Sammy believer.
The bonus disc is a surprise. Recently many of the classic rockers have been releasing their old music videos as DVD's. Sammy could have done that with his library as a separate release, but he included it in this package as a bonus disc, as well as his entire discography, a trivia game, and old archival footage. Hours of extra viewing that adds up to a DVD that the true fan can't help but smile about. Buy Sammy's Birthday Bash DVD 2001 Tour to see Sammy's concert. Buy The Long Road to Cabo to see Sammy's heart.

Der Golem
Released in DVD by Gotham Distribution (24 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Directors: Carl Boese and Paul Wegener
Starring: Paul Wegener, Albert Steinrück, and Ernst Deutsch
A relic certainly, but a fascinating one, Der Golem is perhaps the screen's first great monster movie. Though it was actually the third time director-star Paul Wegener had played the eponymous creation, the earlier efforts (sadly lost) were rough drafts for this elaborate dramatization of the Jewish legend. When the Emperor decrees that the Jews of mediaeval Prague should be evicted from the ghetto, a mystical rabbi creates a clay giant and summons the demon Astaroth who breathes out in smoky letters the magic word that will animate the golem. Intended as a protector and avenger, the golem is twisted by the machinations of a lovelorn assistant and, like many a monster to come, runs riot, terrorizing guilty and innocent alike until a little girl innocently ends his rampage. Wegener's golem is an impressively solid figure, the Frankenstein monster with a slightly comical clay wig. The wonderfully grotesque Prague sets and the alchemical atmosphere remain potent. --Kim Newman

Yet another fine DVD release from Kino
The Golem is a terrific film from the silent era. The story is compelling, the setting is marvellous, and the look of the film overall is perfect for a story such as this. I won't bore everyone with a summary, but merely say that this film is for anyone who likes gothic horrors/thillers and maybe has an interest in reliogious issues.
Kino's DVD is the finest version of the film yet. Not all films are given the treatment that Metropilis recently got, but the restoration done of The Golem is quite nice. I can't say I care much for the colour tinting, but that's a small quibble. The music composed for the film is appropriate, but not great. Certainly not as good as the very fine scores written by Timothy Brock for Kino's releases of Faust and The Last Laugh - I wonder what he could have done.
In any case, The Golem is worth adding to your collection if you like silent classics and supernatural thillers. I wouldn't rank it as high as Lang or Murnau's work, but it IS a terrific film.

Magical.
This movie was some of the best money I've ever spent on a DVD. I love german expressionism, and if you do too, this movie will blow you away. It has a lot more variety of scenery and special effects than the more known Nosferatu and Dr. Caligari. For example, some scenes have so much contrast that only black and white are visible, a technique used in many german expressionist prints to better convey raw emotion. The way the story progresses and the editing is also strikingly modern compared to other expressionist movies. Close-ups of the Golem's face reveal that he is more than a mere monster. There is also an element of magic an fantasy, with costumes and sets that look like they came out of some distorted fairy tale. The ending also has a wonderful, highly conceptual twist that will make you want to watch it again. I'm not really sure if this movie was originally tinted like Nosferatu, Dr. C, and Waxworks, but that is the only way that this movie could be better. A must own for any fan of this art movement, and an inspiring feast for the eyes and mind.

One of the first and greatest horror stories
I'm infinitely pleased that this incredible treasure is finally on DVD. I got hooked on the story of the golem several years ago, read every literary adaptation of it that I could find, and then stumbled across this masterpiece. It grabs your attention and doesn't let go. You'll find yourself amazed that something so compelling, so interesting, so *creepy* could have been created over 70 years ago with no digital special effects, no morphing, no explosions, no fake blood, no animatronics, not even any dialogue. Just a great story, wonderful sets, excellent acting, lighting and directing.

The first time I watched it, I watched by myself. The second time I watched it was a blustery, January night, with the lights off, with another reviewer here, with whom I have not spoken in years and whose review I stumbled across when looking at this DVD. I'm glad to have introduced one other person to this movie. Watch it with someone! They may like it so much, they'll review it!

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers
Released in DVD by Gotham Distribution (19 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Lewis Milestone
Starring: Barbara Stanwyck and Van Heflin
Barbara Stanwyck mesmerizes as a woman with a past, bound by a crime to a husband she despises. Kirk Douglas quickens our collective pulses in his film debut as her disappointing, dipsomaniac spouse, while Van Heflin and Lizabeth Scott bring texture to supporting roles. Everything about this 1946 film noir is intriguing, from Lewis Milestone's direction to Edith Head's costumes to the edgy and troubled characters. It takes a long, hard look at guilt and the consequences of poorly planned actions. Well worth checking out, despite a wretched title. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Average review score:

The Guilt of Martha Ivers
Van Heflin is a gambler who returns to his hometown and gets tangled up with some childhood friends. He left town the night Martha killed her cold-hearted aunt, a murder that was successfully covered up. Now the grown-up Martha, played by Barbara Stanwyck, and especially her weak husband, played by Kirk Douglas, fear he might reveal what happened that night. Heflin gets involved with Lizabeth Scott, a convict, who fears his past relationship with Stanwyck will take Heflin from her. In this film noir, none of the characters is particularly likeable, each trying to protect themselves. There is some biting dialogue and effective use of music, although sometimes it becomes a little overpowering. Stanwyck is terrific as usual, really delivering in the latter scenes. Douglas is too strong of a presence to play the weak, manipulated husband, and would have been better off trading with Heflin. Scott has a strange screen presence, and although it fits the character somewhat, she never seems quite comfortable. But the characters are fascinating (typical for film noir) and the story is really interesting, despite the poor choice of a title. Since so much of this film centres on guilt and how difficult it can be to escape one's past, I think a better title for the film would have been The Guilt of Martha Ivers.

Stanwyck noir at its very best
How else but the terrific Barbara Stanwyck could have performed this largely unsympathic role and still had us, the audience , rooting for her?
"Strange Love" is a great film which doesn't seem to be as well known as the great classic "Double Indemnity" but it deserves to be.
Barbara Stanwyck tends to be known for her tough lady characters but in reality alot of her best performances were in very sympathic and feminine roles like "Stella Dallas" and "My Reputation" She was a great actress who could easily play both comedy and drama. In this film she is a ruthless lady hiding a dark secret from her childhood involving murder and deception who believes that her evil past has come back to haunt her in the form of childhood cohort Van Heflin.
What develops in this story is a tense cat and mouse game with both parties waiting to see who will make the next move. Tense stuff indeed and the film is quite rivetting right up to the end.Judith Anderson has a brief but telling role in the first flash back section of the film and ends up a murder victim. She plays Barbara's aunt as a mean, vicious monster which I feel almost lends Barbaras later character a little sympathy. That is what is so unique about "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" no character is really as they first seem , every character has other elements to their makeup not obvious at first. It really is intriguing. Lizabeth Scott also has an important role as the girl from the wrong sid eof the tracks just trying to go straight and make good. Hers is a great performance and her one scene with Stanwyck positively crackles.
The overraul look of the film is lavish with that certain noir quality. Barbara , although not acclaimed as a great beauty is here as always a very attractive woman even when playing a nasty character. As always she is dressed superbly by the great Edith Head. The collaboration of these two women on so many films over the years was definately one of the great partnerships of Hollywood's golden age.
Settle back and enjoy one of the great Stanwyck classics!

Lizabeth Scott on nurturing a relationship:
Call me an old romantic but there's something GREAT about B&W movies where megagorgeous girls say to ordinary guys things like "Go ahead and slap me; I had it coming!"

And 1 Ball Access - The Mix Tape Tour (Street Basketball)
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (05 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

Not worth the money and time!
OK, some of the moves are amazing, credit has got to be given to the players/showmen, but the DVD as a whole is definitely not worth the $18 and the time you'll spend watching it. For most of the footage is of the fans going crazy over the wild moves on the court, and off it, and the players fooling around in their tour bus! Some might enjoy it, but it certainly shouldn't be considered a Street basketball DVD, for true basketball only covers a small part of it! The whole DVD can actually be summed up in less than 10 minute, if all the BS was cut out.

The best streetball dvd out there
This was a great dvd - it wasnt the full ESPN behind the scenes 8 episode series of the And1 mixtape tour, but it covered most of it. It showed much longer segments, and it showed everything sequentially which i really liked compared to the mixtape 5 which jumped almost too quickly from move to move from one city to another. Overall I'd say this is the best basketball dvd or vhs i have - but i havent seen the 2003 ball access tour 2 disc dvd.

SOOOO Sweet!
I'm a librarian in the hood. (smile) Young men have been asking for these tapes. I finally caught the show last night when I had insomnia. AWWW! These boys are so underrated. Buy the tapes. They display awesome, rawest of the raw talents and gifts. Off the heezee.

justin is a total and utter idiot and his dvd shows it. he is bitter over britney and u can see it here.y do u think he has a rating of NR he is a dirty freak who wants to get back at his X.
i use to like him .... NOW HE IS A MAN-WHORE
ps- but he is still hot

If You're A Big Fan of Mr. JT, This Is For You...
This DVD is the ultimate thing of the year for all you fans of Justin Timberlake out there. I love how it features all the videos but I wish they didn't show so many live performances of Like I love You, that sort of got annoying after a while. I thought it would've been interesting if they had Making The Video for Cry Me A River and Senorita. I also wish they hadn't shown excerpts from the behind the scenes stuff but the whole thing. But I especially loved the music videos and behind the scenes. It's one of those DVD's you'll want to watch over and over again. :)

Mr. J.T. awesome and hot on fire
This is the best DVD I've seen as he is going solo and doing things on his own. I don't know why u people who aren't devoted fans like to bring him down. The DVD had nothing to do with Britney Spears and Justin is hot and can do his thing. His music reflects his life experiences on the road with *NSYNC and many other personal things. Justin is one of the best new artist to come a long way.

Plymptoons - The Classic Works of Bill Plympton (Special Edition)
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (23 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Bill Plympton
Independent animator Bill Plympton first received widespread public attention when his outré "Your Face" (1987) was nominated for an Academy Award for Animated Short. His short films--some as brief as 15 seconds--made between 1985 and 1991 showcase his unique talent much more effectively than his ponderous features, The Tune and I Married a Strange Person. Plympton's earliest films indicate that he experimented with a variety of techniques--cutouts, cel animation, stop motion--before finding his personal style: colored pencil drawings on paper to illustrate bizarre, metamorphic transitions that build to an absurd climax. Eyes slide up foreheads, lips elongate, mouths rotate, bodies distort, and heads explode in loose, scribbly sketches. Plympton is not a great animator: he uses only four to six drawings per second, less than a Saturday-morning series (full, Disney-style animation requires 12 to 24 drawings per second), and his attempts to tell a coherent story through his drawings invariably fizzle. But in off-the-wall shorts like "Your Face," "25 Ways to Quit Smoking," and the 15-second "Plymptoons" made for MTV, he emerges as an entertaining and highly original filmmaker. Not rated; suitable for all ages, although bizarre imagery may frighten small children. --Charles Solomon
Average review score:

Plympton at his best
Now, I'll be the first to admit that Bill Plympton's style of animation is crude at best, but what he does is use a unique blend of style with images to create the most surreal animation ever! This series of shorts is probably the best of his work from all the collections I have seen. I can easily understand not being able to sit through his animation for more than an hour straight, but each short on it's own has a great charm and an unique vision. Your Face, When Push Comes to Shove, and One Of Those Days will make you laugh, then cringe at what you're laughing at, then laugh again!

It's greater than great
Being a young animator. I look up to Bill Plymtom because he is original. He shows that animation is so much more than just cartoon network and Disney. In this short film he definitely takes you thtough an experience that you will never forget because this work stands out from all the rest. I was amazed watching what you could really do with a face till you aren't even sure it's a face anymore! I recommend this to anyone that you should watch it at least once. I personally loved it and i think anyone reading this will too.Having met him at the World Animation Celebration in Hollywood was a treasure. I even got an autograph from him in my sketch book. After you watch it you will know why and you'll want his autograph too.

Very unique brand of humour....
Bill Plympton's works are not for those people who like to see explosion in movies and who like to have distinct, obvious and relatively simple punchlines to their jokes. His brand of humour is subtle, and it seems to appeal to people with real brains to poke at. Very unique trademark animation style. This tape brings together the best and impossibly worst animations of one of animations foremost geniuses. (and even the worst ones are well worth it!) If you like this, try migraine boy! Good all around!

Spaceman
Released in DVD by Ryko Distribution - Video (24 April, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Scott Dikkers
Average review score:

Dissect everyone.....
In Space Man, we're treated to a genuine, low bugdet, sci-fi, gangster, kung-fu, comedy, love story. I saw this as a refreshing break from the hi-tech, mega bugdet, CGI bloated features we've been seeing. It's the story of a man who was kidnapped as a young boy by space aliens and returns back to earth 25 years later. During his time away from earth, he has been trained and conditioned to be the ultimate hunter/fighter/killer and now has to try and assimilate back into earth culture. I thought this movie was pretty funny, and for it's budgetary limitations, it had some pretty good fight scenes and effects. While the movie was made for around $50,000, it looks like the director got the most out of it he could. I would be interested in seeing what he could do with a larger budget. It's nice to know that movies like this can still be made. If you liked this, I would also recommend Dark Star.

Spaceman
Watching this movie feels like you're goofing around and playing with a bunch of your friends. It doesn't try too hard to hide that the lead pipes they're hitting eachother with are cardboard. It lets you in on it, it feels like any one of the actors at some point are going to look at you and say, "What do you want to play now?". At one point a car drives past the guy he's supposed to pick up and inside the driver says, "Oh, I screwd that one up.". On the commentary track Scott Dikkers says how that was the actor's natural reaction to accidently missing his mark but Dikkers just left it in.
Scott Dikkers is such a genius. I wish everybody could see the stuff he's done. His cartoon Jim's Journal is so beautiful, his short films give a better idea of what he can do with more money, The Onion, and this other book "You Are Worthless" which I wrote another review of here. It's so easy to love him for the work he's let us seen.

Trained to Kill
Eugine the Spaceman is the ultimate killing machine, and he is a pretty good cashier too. This movie is about a lost warrior from outerspace that has to fight off the FBI, a group of hitmen, learn to think for himself, and serch for his true identity. I found this movie to be both action-packed and hilarious. I loved the parts where Spaceman riped out a mans vocal cords and threw a couple of forks into another guys eyeballs. Also I loved the pipe fight and kung-fu fight between Spaceman and the Japanese guy. Spaceman will never quit killing!!!

Sinead O'Connor - Goodnight, Thank You, You've Been a Lovely Audience
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (26 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Sinead O'Connor
She's an original, that Sinead O'Connor, even when taking on a repertoire as old and seemingly as intractable as her homeland's own rocky shore. The Irish singer draws liberally from her 2002 Sean-Nos Nua recording in this Dublin concert, holding her audience rapt while bringing a rich, full, almost New Age sound, strings and synth pads galore, to "Molly Malone" and other haunted "songs of the Irish soul"--as well as to "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Fire on Babylon," both of which benefit from the update. There are no frills here, just the music (about 70 minutes' worth). That's admirable, but O'Connor's voice--powerful but a wee bit strident--becomes wearisome after a while. Even so, an excellent band, superb sound, crystal-clear visuals, videos of six Sean-Nos Nua songs, and even a 30-minute documentary about the album make this a memorable document, whether or not she follows through on her retirement plans. --Sam Graham
Average review score:

Is this the last day of our acquaintence?
I don't think so. It strikes me that whether she's ripping up photos or ripping through powerful and emotional songs, Sinead O'Connor seems at herself most in front of an audience. Maybe that's what scares her. All the same, this is a terrific Dublin performance in support of the SEAN NOS NUA CD, the Sinead disc you could play for your granny. Striking a demure pose, while Machiavellingly controlling the off-stage sound and lighting and tech crews with killer stares and clipped directions, O'Connor works her way through material from her across her career. It is an effective reading. It is also considerably more under control than the I DO NOT WANT tour performances that catapulted her from Temple Bar to the forefront of avant rock. Mor 's trua. The edge that's gone or sedated was what took a remarkable artist into the stratosphere. Ever the colleen, although one with an obsession for creating a headlong collision out of Catholicism-Judaism-Rastafarianism-New Age crystals, Sinead nearly blushe sher way through a number of Gaelic standards while facing the audience, then turning toward crew and band with a Gollum like intensity that parries and slays anyone not in lock step with her own sense of direction.
In any case, although she has stated that this would be it as far as her performance and rock career were concerned (well, what is hse going to do? day care? I don't think so), she has stated lotsa stuff to the press. This is what she does well. I can not imagine her sticking to it. It is one thing to proclaim yourself a priestess-pope-natty dread whatever, but sooner or later, that is just another wardrobe change. Even Yusef has returned to song, not "Moonshadow," but song nonetheless because it is a central part of the dna.
Anyway, the extra bits on this DVD are a howl. The videos for the Irish tunes are so amateurly produced they are out and out laughable. The mouth is either way ahead, and I mean WAY AHEAD, of the song or WAY BEHIND. The photography is inept. The special effects are straight out of Dick Clark American Bandstand. There is a bit of discussion about all this carry on that is almost as inane as Spinal Tap. You would swear Eric Idle scripted this, if Sinead and comapny did not look so earnest. But, you can't ask for more pure entertainment. What a deal. So, is this the last day of our acquaintence? Not so fast, Kowalski....

Amazing Performence!
When this DVD was released I nearly melted because I had never seen Sinéad live. And seeing this DVD almost made me feel like a part of the audience. The shots of Sinéad and the band are great. I think the best part of this concert is Sinéad's voice. From the opening track to the last, Sinéad whispers her songs and sings as if to attack. Her voice is very rich and has amazing powers.
I think the only problem with the performance is that it was so short. Sinéad could have easily performed a few more songs. She didn't seem exhausted at all! But taking the songs she did play into consideration, I was very pleased with the selection. The only song which I actually considered boring was The Last Day of Our Acquaintance. But songs such as Nothing Compares 2 U (which is reconstructed in such a beautiful way that it no longer is annoying from being overplayed), I Am Stretched On Your Grave, Fire on Babylon and Thank You For Hearing Me made this concert orgasmic! Trust Me! I got chills watching and hearing it.

As far as the other features of the DVD, the recording of Sean-Nos Nua was very nice, but the videos were kind of, hmmm, boring. I have to admit I could actually not sit through them.

Having said that, the concert is worth the price, if not much more!

Sinead's DVD review
The DVD is amazing; it is up close and personal with Sinead like I have never seen her before and it has bonus material, such as a documentary with her in her home and recording studio talking about each song and what inspired her to sing them. Also, the DVD contains music videos for each Irish folk song. The documentary also talks about the old Irish language and what the songs mean to them with people singing them in traditional Gaelic. I was deeply touched and educated at the same time.

Sinead has such strong spirit with energy flowing through her like a cosmic vessel filling her with universal proportions. I have so much respect for her and admire her strength and confidence. She believes in herself enough to influence the world with her ideology and spiritual feelings. I honestly have listened to her music almost daily for 4 years now, and I don't think I will ever tire of her electrifying voice and passion. Her music has kept me strong and lifted me up when I needed it and gave me renewed strength in my spirit. She makes me feel lucky to be a woman and proud to show my strength without having to lose my femininity. Women can be strong, passionate, natural and logical thinkers without having to be labeled. Thanks Sinead!

Spock's Beard - Don't Try This At Home/ Live in Holland/ The Making of V
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (19 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

Great band, but disappointing vox on live performance
I really looked forward to this DVD. I love the band and discovered that Neal Morse really doesn't cut it live. His singing and keyboard playing are quite sloppy throughout the entire performance. They do perform some great material including Healing Colors of Sound, but the live version pales in comparison to the studio version. Get this only if you are a hardcore fan.

An absolute GREAT performance captured splendidly
This is a great DVD from a truly great band. The music/video quality is outstanding and the audio mix is just right. Certainly worth every penny with the inclusion of the "making of V" and the additional audio disc (which is great too!). Highly recommend this DVD to all fans of progressive music and in particular to those looking to see "The Light".

Long grow the Beard!

Excellent Musicians Creating Excellent Music
Being a fan of old school symphonic prog, there are not too many post 70's prog rock I care to listen to, becuase it seemed that most current prog bands thought that the music was essentially songs that contained syncopated beats and stacatto structure and melodies. Then I came upon this group. I found this effort to be very impressive and refreshing in that there is that touch of symphonic flavoring (mellotron and classical phrasing) along with neo prog instrumentation. Imagine Flower Kings fusing with Gentle Giant and you have a musical idea of what this excellent band of musicians can do. Definitely first class!
