Weird Al Yankovic: The Videos
Released in DVD by Bmg Distribution (VI (15 April, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Weird Al Yankovic

The King of Comedy Strikes Again!
This DVD is very funny. It includes all of Al's videos except for the two from "Running With Scissors". Al's songs are entertaining by themselves, but they're even better when he makes videos out of them. Every single video on this DVD will leave you laughing until you cry. Al gets an oppurtunity to show off his uncanny ability to do physical comedy, and it just shows how talented Al really is. If you can track down a copy, you should definately buy it.

Went to Coney Island On a Mission From God...Be Back By Five
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (07 October, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Starring: Jon Cryer

Funny, touching, beautifully acted--you should check it out
This movie is small in scale, but big-hearted. The cinematography is remarkable (Coney Island has never looked so desolate), and the acting is extraordinary. Jon Cryer does the best work of his career--and he co-wrote the script, too. Newcomer Rick Stear holds the screen like a star, and Frank Whaley, Dominic Chianese, and Peter Gerrety shine in supporting roles. There's also an amazing, evocative score by Midge Ure. This is the kind of film that perfectly defines the shape of American independent cinema; an involving story told with humor and grace.

Spacey & Russ : Breakout Performances
Once again, the writing and performances stand out in this batch of episodes.

This is the arc which introduced America to the brilliance of Kevin Spacey and William Russ!

It kills me to see a talent like Russ taking jobs on 'Boy Meets World' to pay the bills, when he's so good in 'Wiseguy'.

If you liked the 'Sonny Steelgrave' arc, then this is a no-brainer purchase as well.

Re-Animator
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (01 January, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Stuart Gordon
Starring: Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott
Stuart Gordon's adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West: Re-Animator puts a Night of the Living Dead spin on the classic Frankenstein story. Jeffrey Combs furrows his brow and bugs his eyes as the preternaturally intense Herbert West, a maverick medical student whose gory, gooey experiments cause bloody corpses and body parts to jerk to life. Bruce Abbot is the studious roommate drawn into his extracurricular experiments, which soon involve the dean's daughter (the frequently naked Barbara Crampton) and the college's cadaverous, calculating star professor (David Gale), who literally loses his head over a battle for West's discovery. In this world, that's only a minor setback. Charged with sick gallows humor and a ghoulish gallery of undead beasties, Re-Animator, like Evil Dead II, is one of the most inspired and inventive--and funniest--horror films of the 1980s. Combs, Abbot, and Gale reunite for the almost-as-entertaining sequel Bride of Re-Animator. --Sean Axmaker

Dr. West makes living zombies with luminous serum.
In the late 1980's, I remeber seeing this film. The original version and the longer and most grossest version. I remember how much fun it was to watch. This review is for the 94-minute version on VHS where most of the violence and gore have been cut out, but the film has been lengthened too. Jeffrey Combs is a cold-hearted doctor who makes a decision to accept a room-for-rent with a couple, Dan (Bruce Abbott) and his girlfriend (Barbara Crampton, (Days of Our Lives [1983], Young and the Restless, Guiding Light [1993-1995], The Bold and the Beautiful [1995-98]). Dan Cain is a medical student. Dr. Herbert West is like a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein. He has invented a luminous serum that when injected (kind of the same has D.O.A. [1940]), except it was poison) into someone dead, the person comes back to life as a fighting zombie. Peter Kent plays the first nude male zombie who puts up a fight. Peter Kent was also Arnold Schwarzenegger's double (and still is) in the film, Terminator (1984). Lots of fun nudity and grossness. Note: The soundtrack is NOT from Psycho (1960), but it is a similar music score in some parts. Followed by BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR (1990) and BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR (2003).

The Misadventures of Herbert West
Medical student Herbert West has discovered the means of bringing the dead back to life, unfortunately for fellow student Dan Cain. Dan has just taken Herbert in as his new roommate, against his girlfriend's wishes, but Herbert didn't give them much choice in the matter. He threatened to snitch on Dan's inappropriate premarital activities with the Dean's lovely daughter. Soon, Dan is forced to decide whether or not to become an accomplice in Herbert West's gruesome experiments, the results of which can only lead to pure horror.

In a time when the horror genre is getting a tad repetitious...again, discovering "Re-animator" was a welcome treat (Many thanks to my bud, John, for the gift). The story cleverly blends "Frankenstein" with "Return of the Living Dead," to create an original film with the frightful tongue-in-cheek humor of "An American Werewolf In London" and "Evil Dead." If gore is your thing (though I'm a squinter myself), this film is right up your alley too, with scenes that just might make you lose your lunch. And if cute, little blondes are your type (as they are mine), Barbara Crampton is an intense pleasure to see as Dan's girlfriend and the Dean's daughter, Megan Halsley, and you will see ALL of her on this awesome Millennium Edition DVD. Bruce Abbott (Dan Cain) and the rest of the cast are excellent as well, including David Gale as the villainous Dr. Carl Hill, who's inexplicable mind control powers make him a dangerous adversary for the re-animators. But the film truly belongs to Jeffrey Combs, Mr. Herbert West himself, who truly made his mark on the genre with this must see, cult classic. But hey guys, if for nothing else, you gotta check this out for Miss Crampton. She is very well put together!

The Ultimate Train-Wreck Movie!
Oh My God! RE-ANIMATOR is the kind of movie that totally strips you of your ability to turn away or stop the movie! I popped in the DVD only to watch a few minutes and found myself watching the film all the way through, only stopping to rewind scenes that I missed! RE-ANIMATOR is the funniest and goriest horror-comedy ever made! Awesome gore effects and hilarious one-liners; my favorite is "You'll never get credit for my discovery; whose gonna believe a talking head? Get a job in a sideshow." I also liked the performances in this movie, especially Jeffery Combs' as Dr. West, although Dr. West comes off as a jerk. Plus, RE-ANIMATOR is scary too!
You must get the Millennium Edition while you can. This 2-disc treatment is the best that this movie has gotten in years since the 10th Anniversary Laserdisc! Awesome picture and sound quality! Also, you get the original trailer and several TV-spots; alternate and extended scenes (for the R-rated video release); documentaries; and the isolated score! If you're a fan of '80s horror, RE-ANIMATOR is required viewing if you haven't seen it already. Tell 'em Dr. Herbert West sent 'ya!

Charade
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (02 November, 1999)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Stanley Donen
Starring: Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn plays a Parisienne whose husband is murdered and who finds she is being followed by four men seeking the fortune her late spouse had hidden away. Cary Grant is the stranger who comes to her aid, but his real motives aren't entirely clear--could he even be the killer? The 1963 film is directed by Stanley Donen, but it has been called "Hitchcockian" for good reason: the possible duplicities between lovers, the unspoken agendas between a man and woman sharing secrets. Charade is nowhere as significant as a Hitchcock film, but suspense-wise it holds its own; and Donen's glossy production lends itself to the welcome experience of stargazing. One wants Cary Grant to be Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn to be no one but Audrey Hepburn in a Hollywood product such as this, and they certainly don't let us down. --Tom Keogh

Great movie - TERRIBLE dvd version!
As noted by other viewers, this movie is a lot of fun - sure to be on any Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn fan's list. I am not writing about the film but about this particular DVD version by d3kfilms-- it is unwatchable, BOOTLEG quality, in my opinion. I had the misfortune of trying to rent this movie on DVD at my local video store, and this is the version they had in stock. It hadn't occured to me that a reputable video store would be stocking poor quality, unofficial versions of films, so I didn't at all expect what I saw when I watched this DVD. The image and sound quality are EXTREMELY bad-- picture is grainy and muddy-looking, with MAJOR scratches and jarring skips in the film. It was as if someone went to a revival theatre showing an extremely worn-out print of "Charade" and recorded the movie as it was playing on screen with their video camera, then burned what they recorded onto a DVD! That is how terrible the quality is, and this classic film deserves so much better. In fact, any film deserves better-- so watch out for DVDs that have this company's name (d3kfilms) on them or that do not have the original, legit studio's name on them. I noticed that amazon.com sells other versions of this movie on DVD-- try those before wasting your money on this one. I'd even recommend buying an official VHS version of the movie over this one. I was so shocked by what I saw that I got a refund of my money from the video store and then felt compelled to go online and warn people about it-- and I've never done either thing before.

Charade
Director: Stanley Donen

Stars: Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Walter Matthau, James Coburn, George Kennedy, Ned Glass, Jacques Marin, Paul Bonifas, Dominique Minot, andThomas Chelimsky

Running Time: 113 minutes

Released in 1963

Reggie, played by Audrey Hepburn, finds everything in her home has been stolen and her husband murdered after she returns home to Paris after a ski vacation in the French Alps. Peter Joshua, played by Cary Grant, offers to help her solve the mystery of her husband's death. Working together they find that her husband has hid some money and a gang of his ex-cronies, who also killed him, want it and believe Reggie knows where it is. As the movie progresses and one by one the gang is killed, Reggie starts to believe that Peter might be one of the gang that is trying to murder her. Reggie also finds that she that perhaps the only one to trust is CIA agent Hamilton Bartholomew, played by Walter Matthau. Through out the film Reggie is trying to seduce Peter, but Peter feels he is too old for Reggie and wards off her attempts, while remaining close. The director Stanley Donen, who is famous for "Hitchcock imitations", fills this thriller with just enough fun chemistry between Hepburn and Grant to keep your attention from start to finish.

Must have..
This is a must have for any Hepburn fan. A star studded cast and the witty dialogue make this a great movie. The Criterion series are a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. I know someone who got a non Criterion version of this movie and it was quality was terrible.
