Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour 2001
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (10 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Tony Hawk

Can anything gigantic really be bad?
Wow. What a tour. The skating in this video is just sick. There's nothing so mind blowing that you'll never see something similar elsewhere, but there is definitely some progressive, creative, and overall ridiculous skating.

The lineup of skaters is awesome, with Mike Vallely, Bam Margera, Eric Koston, and of course, Tony Hawk, along with a mess of other pros and ams. You don't really get to see them at their best because of it being a demo atmosphere, where you don't get 6 months to test stuff out and film until you get it right, but there's still tons of worthwhile stuff in there.

If you just like human interest shows you'll enjoy it too. You get to see the stress touring causes both mentally and physically, as well as what they do on their days off (paintball, bowling, skating empty pools, ATV racing).

With 2 dvd's, its about 6 hours of film, and I watched it straight through without getting bored once. Its really a worthwhile purchase if you're a fan of skateboarding.

Tony Hawk's Trick Tips, Vol. 3: Secrets of Skateboarding
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (01 October, 2002)

Rockin' it oldskool with Tony and Mike V!
Now here's a retro twist on skateboarding instructional videos. A big grab bag of oldskool cool! Street tricks include: ollie grabs, half-cabs, ollie north, late shove-it, ollie finger flip, impossible, boneless, no-comply, pressure flips, street plants, acid drops, and bomb drops. Seeing these tricks again, expecially on a modern-day skate video, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I grew up on this stuff! The take home message: If it's fun, even if it's old, go for it!!!

The section with Bucky Lasek is a natural progression from the mini ramp skating we saw in the first two videos. This time the guys are out on a true vert ramp. Vert tricks include: dropping in, frontside airs, backside airs, air to fakie, fakie ollie, half-cab, rock to fakie, rock n' roll, inverts, and frontside tailslides.

Extras include: a lunch break with Tony (watch him scarf 6 hotdogs on a stick hehe), a parking lot session with Mike V, and the game of S-K-A-T-E pitting Tony vs. Bucky on the vert ramp. I had fun watching this DVD. I hope they put out at least one more, perhaps one that would focus on some advanced vert tricks like backside and frontside 540's, varials, flips, and maybe even 900's? Wuhahhahahhaha!

Turn-On...Tune-In...Lookout! The Lookout! Video Compilation
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (26 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

Two chords and Hi-8 camera!
Old-school pop-punkers such as The Mr. T Experience, The Smugglers and The Queers join several generations of their musical acolytes in this fun set of sassy, goofy, low-budget videos. Also of note are three videos by the still-indie version of The Donnas (same "ooh-baby, we're so bad, we're so hot, yeah right-you wish!" come-on schtick, but a less slick image and more endearing amatuerism), scruffy popsters The Hi-Fives, and newer powerhouse bands such as the Pattern, The Oranges Band, and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists.

Lookout! fans should enjoy this collection a lot -- my personal faves are the MTX "Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba" video and "Punk Rock Girls" by the Queers, both directed by Berkeley filmmaker Jennifer Kaufman, each shot on real film (not video) and in black & white... The Queers video, which features a montage of fan portraits taken at a Queers show in '96, interspersed with shots of the band playing live, has a classy, arty feel to it, and gives us a great glimpse not only at the band, but of their fans (...us!!) as well. The MTX video is a perfect, hilarious encapsulation of the Mr. T's nebbish image... the band setting up to play in a suburban house, and the video ending before they even start.

All of the clips on this DVD reflect the buoyant sauciness of the Lookout! scene. Some videos are super-low budget, low-concept, and others are more ambitious and visually arresting... But they're all a welcome contrast to the slick, corporate videos that are beamed into our brains via MTV, etc. These clips are more low-key and more personal -- just you, the band, and a few minutes of fun.

Venoms Classic
This is another Venoms classic with lots of typical Chang Cheh action. However, it doesn't have the flair of Kid With The Golden Arm and Five Deadly Venoms.

If you love snowboarding, then read on
this video is awesome! I have never been much good at snowboarding, but i still have fun doing it. This video is packed with some of the top stunts, ranging from locations like Canada, Norway, Switzerland, France, Oregon, Washington, California, New York, and Vermont. Stunts like a loop, 20' channel gap and a 60' roller coaster rail! It's the best video i have ever seen. It's even been sponsored by Snowboarder Magazine, Burton Snowboards, Oakley, Nidecker, Atomic, Salomon, Flux Bindings, Bonfire, and Liberty Board Shop. So, be sure to check it out, i absolutely recommend it.

Vertigo
Released in DVD by Uni Distribution (31 March, 1998)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Average review score:

The restoration is beautiful and breath-taking.
This review is for the DVD version itself. The restoration and color is beautiful. Breath-taking. The wide-screen is almost a full-screen. It is not as irratating as the DVD version of "Cleopatra". Of all versions I have seen, this DVD version made me give "Vertigo" a second look. Colors are important in this restored version because the color of say a door or the clothes that Kim Novak wears explains the psychological state of the character. One of the bonuses is a fine documentary, originally seen on American Movie Classics cable network, about the films' restoration and includes new interviews with Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes.
