Pirates of the Plain

MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: John R. Cherry III

Finally released on DVD.
Pirates of the Plain is one of the best movies Tim Curry has
made. I am a huge fan of Mr. Curry, and am happy to finally own
this movie on DVD. If you are a big fan of Tim's you will definately love this movie.

A 9 year old boy, Bobby, is alone on his Nebraska farm when a nasty Pirate Captain, Jezabel Jack, falls through a time warp landing in present day Nebraska(on the same farm as the boy to be exact). Jezabel and Bobby have a good time looking for treasure until the crew of the Delilah fall through the same time warp, and end up on the Nebraska farm to seek vengance against their double crossing Captain. Cast includes: Tim Curry, Dee Wallace Stone (you might remember her from movies like E.T., and Cujo), Charles Napier, and Seth Adkins. Not only a must see Tim Curry performance, but also a very good family movie! Rated PG for some violence. See Tim as pirate Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (another good one for Tim fans, and also another good family movie).

Pokemon - The Adventures in the Orange Islands (Vol. 2)
Released in DVD by Ventura Distribution (23 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)

Another entry into the Orange Islands saga!
Apparently, each volume of the Orange Island set is going to be released within a year of each other, so we won't have a complete set until 2004. Oh well. Anyway, Ash's jaunt into the Orange Islands continues, and starts off with a bang with:
#240 - Navel Maneuvers: Ash makes it to Navel Island, where he faces the gym leader Danny in a three part take all match! Tracey is rooting for Ash, but it appears Misty has developed a crush for Danny!
#241 - Snack Attack: After Ash wins his second badge, the crew stops by the Grapefruit Islands, where they find a giant Snorlax is on a feeding frenzy! Can they help Ruby the grapefruit farmer fend off Snorlax? Or can they find some help from everyone's favorite musical pink puffball?
#242 - Shipful of Shivers: An ancient artifact is recovered from a wrecked ship, only to have it stolen by Team Rocket! But when they and Ash find themselves on a haunted ship, they've got more than they bargained for!
#243 - Meowth Rules!: Still considered to be one of the best episodes of the entire series, the focus is put on Team Rocket, as they crash land on an island where Meowth is assumed to be the "Great Meowth of Bounty", a Pokemon God that will bring great wealth to the people!
#244 - Tracy Gets Bugged: The kids find a battered Scyther when they stop on an island, and discover it has been kicked out of it's hive! Also, Jessie gets a haircut.
#245 - A Way Off Day Off: Everyone decides to take a day off, except for Team Rocket, who attempt to steal Ash's Charizard!
#246 - The Mandarin Island Miss Match: Ash is getting a little arrogant until he meets Lorelei, one of the Elite Four.
#247 - Wherefore Art Thou, Pokemon: Two trainers hate each others guts but their Nidoran seem to love each other. Naturally, Misty has to butt in.
#248 - Git Along, Little Pokemon: The crew meets Pancha, a Magnemite rancher who uses his Magnemite to gather electricity for all the towns on the island.
#249 - The Mystery Menace: Bulbasaur is kidnapped by a mysterious Pokemon that lives in the sewers under the town. But when Ash tries to rescue Bulbasaur, he find that the Mayor of the city is doing everything he can to prevent anyone from discovering the mystery Pokemon.
#250 - Misty Meets Her Match: Ash makes his way to Trovita Island and it's musical Gym Leader, Rudy, who is immediately smitten with Misty. As the battles progress, Misty has to make a choice... Ash or Rudy?
#251 - Bound For Trouble: Team Rocket finally captures Pikachu! At least, until a giant Pigeot carries away Pikachu and Meowth. Chained together, both have to work together to get back to their trainers.
As I've stated in earlier reviews, the Orange Islands series is considered by many to be the best of all the Pokemon series. This collection of episodes is great, since you get lots of comedy and lots of action packed episodes, with only a couple of lesser episodes. This is a must have for any Pokemon fan.

The final entry of the Orange Island League!
Finally, the Orange Island set is complete! Ash's jaunt into the Orange Islands is coming to a close, and it all start off with;

#252 - Charizard Chills - After Charizard gets frozen in a battle, his flame almost goes out and has to depend on Ash to thaw him out. Ash finally gets the respect of Charizard and Charizard finally obeys Ash in this episode!
#301 - The Pokemon Water War - Ash and company come across a fireman training Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise to fight fires!
#302 - Pokemon Food Fight - Snorlax's Pokeball breaks and Ash can't recall it! They have to figure out how to get a two ton sleeping Snorlax to the nearest Pokemon center.
#303 - Pokemon Double Trouble - Ash finally makes it to the last gym, where he has to take on Luanne the toughest Gym Leader... in a battle where each two Pokemon at once!
#304 - The Wacky Watcher - The gang comes across an ecentric Pokemon watcher, who is tracking the migratory patterns of Magikarp.
#305 - The Stun Spore Detour - When Ash and Tracey fall victim to a Vileplume's stun spore attack, Misty and Pikachu must search out a special plant to cure them.
#306 - Hello Pummelo - Ash finally makes it to Pummelo Island, where he faces the final battle with Drake, the Orange League Supreme Champion!
#307 - Enter The Dragonite - The battle between Drake and Ash is even, until Drake pulls out his trump card...
#308 - Viva Las Lapras - Ash reunites his Lapras with his mother.
#309 - The Underground Round Up - On the way back to Pallet Town, the gang runs into a hired Pokemon herder, who is trying to move a hive of Electrode out of a deserted town.
#310 - A Tents Situation - Team Rocket tries to steal Prof. Oak's Pokemon, until a mysterious figure shows up!
#311 - The Rivalry Revival - Ash and Gary finally face off in battle! Also, Brock returns!
As I've stated in earlier reviews, the Orange Islands series is considered by many to be the best of all the Pokemon series. This collection of episodes is great, explaining all the events leading up to the first Johto episode, plus plenty of great battles. A must have for any Pokemon fan.

Pretenders - Loose In L.A.
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (23 September, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Recorded live as a direct-to-DVD release, Loose in L.A. finds Chrissie Hynde and company buoyed by the excitement of an intelligent and largely female audience--which is good, since Hynde is fending off something (allergies?) that led, she says, to a shot of cortisone before the show. There are no signs of ill effect as the band digs into a deep, funky groove--alternating with flights of pop delirium--on "Message of Love," followed by the jagged-edged "The Homecoming," rabid prophesying of "Fools Must Die," and sexy rockabilly of "Rebel Rock Me." Hynde's brash brilliance captivates on everything, from her still-startling vocal for "Tattooed Love Boys" to her swaying, witty testifying on the reggae-flavored "Complex Person." Martin Chambers (drums), Adam Seymour (lead guitar), the lugubrious Andy Hobson (bass), and Zeben Jameson (keyboards, percussion) keep arty, acrobatic pop-rock hooks aloft while drawing out bluesy undercurrents. Indispensable stuff for Pretenders fans. --Tom Keogh

An Instant Classic From The Pretenders!
This is one of the greatest concert videos I have ever seen. It's a rock solid 2-hour concert from February 2003 that shows the Pretenders at the peak of their powers. They deliver some riveting versions of some of their best early hits like Brass in Pocket, Back on the Chain Gang, My City Was Gone, and Don't Get Me Wrong, along with recent classics like I'll Stand by You, The Night in My Veins, Biker, and You Know Who Your Friends Are. The band is at the top of their game. Chrissie is an absolute riot - irreverent, exhilirating, sexy as ever and funny as hell! This is a genuine tour-de-force performance by a band that embodies the essence of rock: rebellion, passion, and fun. I have been a fan of this group since day one, and I really think this is the best thing they have ever done. If you are a fan of the Pretenders, or if you just enjoy great rock and roll, get this DVD and HAVE FUN!
