Todd Richards' Trick Tips, Vol. 1: Snowboarding - Park and Pipe Basics
Released in DVD by Red Distribution, In (24 September, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: T Richards and Anderson

Informative and Entertaining First Volume
I have had a chance to view this DVD twice since purchasing it last week and I'm very pleased. Unlike most - if not all - other instructional snowboarding videos on the market, Todd Richards' Trick Tips Vol. 1 does not start the viewer with how to get into your bindings, fall over properly, and make your first frontside turn. Richards and Co. thankfully skip over such basic knowledge (which most any rider would outgrow after two or three visits to the slopes anyways) and after a very brief segment on safety, jump right into park and halfpipe basics. Todd and righthand man, Billy Anderson, tackle straight airs, 50/50 rails, as well as method, mute, tail, indie, and stalefish grabs, as well as other park essentials. As for the halfpipe, Todd and Billy introduce such basics as dropping in, speed control, transitions, kick-turns, ollies, and then progress to 5 different backside grabs and 5 different frontside grabs.

I really enjoyed this video. One of the first things that caught and kept my attention was the candid, off-the-cuff humor between Todd and Billy. Laughs make learning easier, and this DVD is no exception. The quality of the DVD was respectable as well. I own a few instructional martial arts videos which look as if they were produced by the practitioners themselves with no additional or professional help. Although you won't find any Spielbergian special effects or emotional John Williams soundtrack here, the little graphics and music that were used were modern and complemented rather than distract from the presentation of the film.

My review isn't complete without testing the taught techniques of this DVD, but being in Seattle in mid-June leaves me little to no opportunity save a lengthy trip to Mt. Hood, which probably won't happen. The good news is this video has provided me with the know-how, inspiration, and confidence to try out these techniques as soon as I hit the hill.

This great DVD spurred me to inquire about Volume 2, and I e-mailed producer Morgan Stone of 900 Films. Coincidentally, they were just wrapping up voice-overs for Volume 2 as I e-mailed last week. It's essentially finished but won't be available until Thanksgiving of 2003. Morgan wrote some of the things Volume 2 would cover, such as frontside, backside, and switch 180's, 360's, and 540's. I wouldn't be surprised to see frontside and backside railslides either. Maybe they'll save the inverted stuff for a future Volume 3? If so, I should best buy a helmet, and start nailing the basics in Volume 1!

Think you're ready to catch some air, but a little scared?
Who isn't? This DVD was excellent for settling those butterflies and giving me an idea of what to expect. It'll put you one step ahead on the learning curve. This was my first season hitting the park and pipe. The video was great, first to give me a little confidence and create a shred-thought (kinda like a swing thought for you golfers), and then as a review to make it automatic. It's a real instructional video, not a "watch someone jump off a cliff and dream that I can do that" video. Its only drawback--I want more! When's Vol. 2 coming out?

Note, keep in mind that this is for beginner tricks--jumps, rails and grabs in the park and pipe. No spins, no flips, nothing excessively extreme, so don't expect too much. After watching it, you may think you can master most of this in a couple of days--not (I'm glad I withheld my review until after the season).

On the flip side, if you aren't confident with your edges (say, at least comfortable (not, "well I think I can make it") on black diamonds or difficult blues), the vid won't help you, and learning that well first on the slopes will make your (and everybody else's) park experience much nicer--remember shred-iquette. Until then, the vid is great for inspiration.

To Amazon: the video title isn't "Snowboarding Basics," it's "Snowboarding Park and Pipe Basics." That's kinda like the difference between "Jumping Basics" and "Base Jumping Basics."

Awesome movie
This is the best snowboard DVD I have ever seen.

There are a lot of great riders like Travis Rice (who just won the X-games slope style), Gigi Ruf, J.P. Solberg or Jussi Oksanen (who does a couple 1080s that means three rotations).

Most of the tricks shown are in back country, not in actual competition, which I find good. The thing is though, that these guys are some of the best snowboarders in the world, because they can also win the competitions. Many of them are also test riders for Burton.

Also the filming is beautiful. With that I mean that it is kind of surreal from time to time, meaning that there is a lot of slow motion or extraordinary camera angles.

The tricks themselves are simply insane.

With just over 30 minutes the film is kind of short, but there is also additional stuff with amounts to around 30 minutes and you never get bored how matter how often you watch it!

It's simply a great DVD.

I just love this movie.
Of all the snowboarding videos, this is the one I most like to watch over and over. The editing is as fabulous as the riding. The bunny sequence alone is worth the price of the whole movie.

fights, fights, fights
These are the most violent videos I have ever seen. I ordered all 3 and it was the best money I've ever spent. Everybody should have these videos. I've never seen so much blood and so many naked girls on any other video.

AMAZING
If you are into watching violent movies or actions this DVD is for you, not only are you getting a video of nothing but street fights but also intermissions of nude models. A must buy for all the Meatheads out there

The best Gospel WOW since 1998
This DVD is one of the best yet for a few reasons. First, there 20 songs, not the like the 12 on previous DVDs. Second, there are diverse groups singing so there is something for everyone. Third, they even threw in some 'old school'. You will really love this one. Get this DVD, it's a keeper.

Review
Actor Ron Becks acted as star and writer of this fascinating B-grade hybrid certain to enthrall exploitation film fans everywhere. A spy thriller/actioner about a CIA agent who wants out, but instead gets reassigned to train a deadly South Korean female assassin with the aim of killing North Korea's Kim Jong-Il. Ripped from the headlines? Not exactly, but for people who recall the glory days of such Cold War exploitation films back in the '80s, this is a fun throwback. It's also a throwback to the days when black cinema and Asian cinema flirted closely with each other -- long before Jet Li and DMX were making movies together. Produced and directed by South Korean filmmaker Young Man Kang, "1st Testament" is supposed to be the first of a trilogy -- and while its credentials are definitely on the B-level, it has enough natural verve and tongue-in-cheek humor to suggest that more outings are not out of the question.

Absolutely top shelf
There is precious little video material from the father of us all, and this is an absolutely top shelf performance at the Marquee Club. Although you may have a broadcast copy of this show, the upgrade and clarity should mandate getting a copy of this. The other material on the disc is woefully disappointing with the exception of a short clip of Alex walking down Wardour Street. But who could expect anything to compete with AK's performance of classic standards from his repetoire. Alex, I hope they have your favourite smokes where you are now. Miss you.

Fear not! This S.E. is the uncut version!
And remastered as well, though you can't always tell. This is COSI FAN TUTTE as Tinto Brass meant for us to see it, in all it's uncut, fudgetunnel-probing glory. 93 minutes in widescreen.
Also has some great extras, such as an interview with Tinto Brass, some outtakes from the film, trailers for this and a couple other T.B. films, photo gallery, etc.

Una Cita En Flamingos

Great sound mixing...so great that is bad...
The long awaited "Una cita en Flamingos" finally arrives on DVD with the promise of being one of the best performances of Enrique.
The quality of the image isn't as good as expected, the bonus materials are nothing special, but the concerts... both are wonderful, I've been in many Enrique Bunbury concerts and this DVD really captures the escence of his band, definitely one of the best things he has.
The problem, and basically the reason why I gave this DVD only 4 stars, is that there is no synch between the voice and Enrique's lips, which makes me think that they cleared the recording of the voice or even re-recorded it (as Enrique did for the compilatory of Heroes del Silencio); in the section "Dame mas" contained in this DVD, check the live version of "Si" and notice the difference with the rest of the concerts.
The DVD contains the live versions of covers such as "Bellisima", "Aunque no sea conmigo" and some Heroes del Silencio songs...
The sound mixing is wonderful (5.1), but I rather listen the original sound with the microphone popping and the people screaming and asking for songs...after all, that's the essence of a concert, isn't it?

Energetic and intense. Get transported inside the concert
This DVD brings you inside the concert. If you have never been to a Bunbury's concert or if you want to re-experience the event, you have to have this DVD.Camera angles and image queality bring you inside the stage. Sound quality makes you feel energy and passion that Enrique and his band display during performance. Enrique's gestures and passionate way of performing each song are hypnotizig.
Tis DVD contains two concerts. One at Zaragoza which was outdoors and before a huge audience. Tis concert is glamorous and really portrays the entertainer side of Bunbury. The other concert is in Madrid. This is an indoors concert, with a small audience of about 1000 people. This is an more intimate concert.
Sount is amazing, you can crelarly hear every instrument played.
In adition to the concerts, the DVD contains an interview to the band, pictures and newspaper pieces from the tour and previous tours, all five videoclips from the album and a bonus live clip from the "Basico 40" concert.
This DVD is a must have for music lovers.

A must have
This is how every artist should make a concert DVD.The sound quality is great, the different camera angles on every band member is precise.2 hours of live shows along with 45 minutes of videos. You can't go wrong.Enrique Bunbury is an incredible entertainer.
