Tai Chi - Energy Training for Mind and Body, Vol. 2

Terrific....beauty and form in a great addition to Volume 1
Jayne Storey is an excellent instructor and this video shows different angles which are a great plus. Storey is graceful and the video is very well done in a beautiful outdoor environment. If you are into learning a graceful tai chi exercise, I would recommend volume 2.

Love the Volume II and am satisfied with my second purchase.
Well, after purchasing volume 1, I wanted to go farther with my instruction.

I have just received Volume 2, and have tried it out. It is terrific. I was a bit apprehensive about advanced instruction, but the calming and careful approach of Ms. Storey is just the type of training I need.

I never imagined that I would enjoy Tai Chi. However, with these two excellent volumes, 1 and 2, I would recommend these DVDs to anyone who is interested in a gentle form of exercise. This is truly a great way to relieve stress and to get the physical energy that is needed to function at your best.

A final note: Buy Volumes I and II.

Tai Chi - Energy Training for Mind and Body, Vol. 1

Good quality, but dfficult to follow
Trying to learn from a video with no background into the principles of Tai Chi didn't work from me. It was a bit like trying to play follow the leader where I had to try and copy movements that meant nothing to me and merely memorize as best I could what she was doing without any rhyme or reason to why I was doing them. If your're someone that needs to see the whole picture first and know the principles and theory in order to assist you in learning the smaller parts, this might not work for you. It's like trying to learn reading from phonics when you don't even know the alphabet. The quality of the product was good, the approach just didn't work for me.

Finaly a Great Tai Chi DVD for Women
I've been looking for a Tai Vhi DVD in the Yang Form for ages, this is it. Everything about it is really nicely done... I even took TV outside one day and practiced in the Garden... That was the best. LOL

Really well done DVD
excellent Tai Chi instruction, Very high quality, good clear audio, I'm pretty new to this, but I definately recommend it.

Yoga Journal's Yoga for Strength and Energy
Released in DVD by Gaiam Americas (23 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Rodney Yee
This Yoga Journal DVD contains two workout programs: "Yoga Practice for Strength" and "Yoga Practice for Energy."

In "Yoga Practice for Strength," teacher Rodney Yee begins the lesson with variations of sun salutations and poses such as the dog, triangle, and others. In the second, more intense sequence, Yee leads the bridge, shoulder stand, warrior, and balancing poses, his narration soothing and his technique inspiring. Very difficult poses, such as the crane pose and pendulum pose, comprise the end of the set. This session is not recommended for those new to yoga because it is quite strenuous; students should first be familiar with the vinyasas to ensure that the poses are reached and held correctly.

"Yoga Practice for Energy" is a different kind of workout. Filmed at the beach on Maui, the sessions Awakening, Centering, Creativity, Reflection, and Surrender offer movements that follow the cycle of the sun through the course of a day. Viewers are encouraged to first try the entire tape several times, and then use the sessions that correspond to their needs at any particular time. For example, if you've just trudged in the door from a hectic day, you may want to use the Reflection session, in which "a cooling, tranquil series of forward bends and hip openers let all activities of the day seep in like watercolors setting into paper." Almost no narrative accompanies the five practice sessions, and if you are a beginner you may feel lost at first viewing. Have no fear: the DVD contains a wonderful appendix to which you can refer for tips on technique and variations on poses. --Jhana Bach

An Outstanding Daily Practice
I love Rodney Yee! He is so refreshing and inspirational. My favorite part of this DVD is the "Yoga for Energy" practice. There have been weeks when I have done this practice every single day. It never disappoints. I really like the lack of verbal instruction (although it does help if you are familiar with the poses before doing this practice) and the simple format. I like that the practice is balanced and very inclusive. You work every part of your body during this practice. It is helpful that he has an appendix of useful modifications for people at the end of this section. It is worthwhile to watch the entire 45-minute practice first, before trying it along with Rodney and friends. The "Yoga for Strength" section is also excellent and provides a good way to learn many of the poses before moving on to the more flowing Energy practice.

I think it is perfect for the person who has had a few classes or done a beginner tape and is ready to establish a daily routine.

Two great workouts
This DVD includes two very different workouts that have both become staples in my practice. Yoga for Energy is a perfect am workout, slowly warming up the body, progressing into more challenging vinyasa (flowing sequences) and ending with deep stretches to relax and calm the body. It is well balanced between flexion and extension and covers all the movements of the spine. Note that you will need to be familiar with the poses to follow this workout. Yoga for Strength is a slower, deeper workout developing muscle strength, balance and stability. It is appropriate for all levels and includes some introductory inversions.

chaptering
Like the rest of Rodney's videos/dvds, Yoga for Strength and Energy is great, visually beautiful, and physically challenging. I'm glad they combined these two videos on one dvd. I am primarily writing this review to state that the chaptering is actually fine. In the first menu you can pick whether you want to do Yoga for Strength or Yoga for Energy. If you pick Yoga for Strength, then you go to another menu where you can pick between either of the two Strength practices. If you pick Yoga for Energy, then the next menu is for any of the 5 10min. Energy sessions, or you can just start with the first session and go straight through for a complete practice. I'm not sure why these other reviewers complain about chaptering- Gaiam did a great job with this dvd. I routinely use this dvd because I can mix and match sessions from Strength and Energy to get a slightly different yoga practice according to what I feel like doing that day.

Behind the Music That Sucks, Vol. 1 - Pure Energy! Pure Rock!
Released in DVD by Arrow Video (29 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Behind the Music That Sucks
The spirit of Beavis and Butthead lives on in "Pure Energy! Pure Rock!", the first collection of Behind the Music that Sucks, Heavy.com's always irreverent, occasionally humorous spoofs of VH-1's Behind the Music series. Whether that's a good thing or not will most likely depend on your age (16 or below would be ideal) and level of tolerance for jejune, puerile, and above all obvious shots at easy targets. The main problem is that Behind the Music is itself so inherently, absurdly amusing--and yet its tales of success, ruination, and redemption are also true, which has the dual result of making them oddly compelling and rendering broad parodies like Behind the Music that Sucks pretty much superfluous.

That said, it should also be noted that some of the 10 segments here (there are also a couple of bonus features, including the "American Suck Countdown") can be fairly funny, and definitely off the wall, as Behind the Music that Sucks takes pot shots at the narcissism of Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, Kiss's Jewish upbringing, Kid Rock's strident white-trash stupidity, Fred Durst's (of Limp Bizkit) obsession with Celine Dion, and plenty more. In the end, though, the formula of "Drugs, Failure, Kinky Sex and Caffiene" [sic], with its limited animation and endless supply of butt "jokes" and references to animal sex, sexually transmitted diseases, masturbation, and so on, will prove wearisome to all but the hopelessly brain dead. The one saving grace is that at around three minutes each, at least the segments are mercifully brief. --Sam Graham

Waste of money
I've seen behind the music that sucks on heavy.com for a while now as well as on Much Music TV. Do we really need to buy the DVD? Well if it's only [money] used, fine, but even at that low price, it seems a bit of a waste. Stupid humor is actually tough to create, there is a fine line between the subtle genius of say "Dumb and Dumber" and a total idiot making lots of poop jokes because he sees that they're in better made material. And this is my point. This video has hopped itself on the sophmoric bandwagon but hasn't added anything to the party other than bad animation. The last episode 'Behind the Local Band' (a made up one) is the funniest thing on the DVD -- which goes to show you that they're trying too hard to be funny by making fun of Britney Spears, but when left to their own devices, they actually do have good imaginations. Two stars just for the fake band segment. No stars for bad voice acting and poor menu's.

Raunchy but Right on
I'm not particularly fond of profanity, but in this case I can overlook it for the most part. The "victims" here are some of the WORST mega-popular acts in recent memory; from the obnoxious [...] rappers Kid Rock & Limp Bizkit (or however you spell that stupid name) to the pretentious, screeching noise made by Bald Billy & his Smashing Pumpkins (now mercifully disbanded) and Garbage (an appropriate moniker, indeed), they all get the stuffing beat out of them for their collective worthlessness. Great tape to play at a party; just hope no one actually likes any of these. Even if they do, they just might change their mind after seeing this video. After all, how much of that screeching caterwauling from Billy Pumpkin can anyone take?

BTMTS rulez
I say that this DVD rulez with a capital Z...I use a Z because it is crazy much like the jokes in the DVD series. I loved it and I want the world to know so they can be part of this.
