LONG TIME COMING
Chemical Brothers fans have long awaited a video/live dvd from the masters and I would say it's been worth the wait. What an awesomely put together dvd. Even the menus are class. Having been at the red rocks show, I admired how its footage perfectly captures the mayhem that ensued after the blistering opener hey boy, hey girl. And as for the other live bits, they're worth the price of admission alone, especially the Japan footage, simply jaw-dropping. But you also get the promos and interviews which only add to the future classic status of this dvd. Some of the best videos of the last ten years of course line up to show the Chem's might. 'The Test' is an instant classic with amazing visuals, and 'The Golden Path' is a very positive and uplifting piece of genius as a video and track. Excellent DVD.

CHEM BROS RULE!!!
the Chemical Brothers are the best techno duo in the world! i was praying over the years that a dvd can be released. my prayers have been answered with 'singles 93-03'. this is a must own! all the videos by the chem bros are terrific. 'star guitar' directed by michel gondry is 1 video i haven't seen before and it is very very inventive if you look at the video oh so carefully which is a train ride but again look closely and hear the song's beats. click on the making of the video where gondry uses graph paper, a pen, sketches, oranges, forks, books &....he is weird but a genius. another great video is 'hey boy hey girl' w/ a girl's fascination w/ bones and skeletons-she becomes sooo obsessive with the subjects that she SEES only skeletons thru humans and animals. 'elektrobank' featuring sofia coppola as a gymnast and directed by spike jonze, her hubby. listen to the commentary---sure doesn't sound like jonze especially the accent. there are other fine videos and extras and live concerts. a lotta fun! i will buy the singles 93-03 cd. i love the chem bros!

Block Rockin' DVD!
This DVD contains both promo and live videos as well as interviews. The promo videos and live videos are really awesome. The live videos contains really cool strobing effects and visualities. The interviews features Tom Rowlands & Ed Simmons (The Chemical Brothers, themselves), Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Bernard Sumner of New Order, Richard Ashcroft formerly of The Verve, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim, himself), Beth Orton and Tim Burgess as well as video directors. The videos are as listed below:

Life Is Sweet
Setting Sun
Block Rockin' Beats
Elektrobank
Hey Boy Hey Girl
Let Forever Be
Out Of Control
Star Guitar
The Test
The Golden Path (brand new video)

The live videos are as follows below:

Hey Boy Hey Girl - Live from Red Rocks 1999
Hoops/Setting Sun - Live from Fuji Festival 2002
Temptation/Star Guitar - Live from Fuji Festival 2002
Chemical Beats - Live from Glastonbury 1997
The Private Psychedelic Reel - Live from Glastonbury 2000

There are three ways to watch the videos on this DVD. You can watch the promo videos only, the live videos only or both in crhonological order. There is also 'The Private Reels' with behind the scene footage of The Chemical Brothers. It's really cool and kinda funny. This DVD is a must have for every true Chemical Brothers fan.

Warning: This DVD contains strobing effects which may affect some viewers with photo-sensitive epilepsy or other such condition.

Nuclear Biological Chemical Attack!

A first-class action movie!
"Acts of terrorism and the murder of innocent people are meant to demoralize a society. We cannot allow this to happen to our democratic form of government and the stability of the free world."

These are the chilling words that begin the big-budget production of the chilling "Nuclear Biological Chemical Attack!".

The producers of this video spared no expense when developing this invaluable how-to survival video. This movie contains the most realistic explosions and make-up effects I've ever seen. Some of the nuclear mushroom-clouds look so real, I could almost feel the skin melting off my bones. While some of the scare-tactics used in this movie were a little over the top (chemical warefare on U.S. soil?), most of the information was extremely valuable.

As the title suggests, "Nuclear Biological Chemical Attack!" is filled with terrifying footage of all types of attacks -- sure to instill panic into even the most placid American. George Alexander (former United States Marine, Vietnam veteran and patriotic American) offers excellent tips on many nuclear/biological/chemical topics, including safety equipment, detection, symptoms and preparedness. Alexander recommends that you immediately designate a "safe room". I chose my living room, because that's where my CDs and DVDs are. If I'm going to die, I might as well die an entertained American.

The most important thing to remember (other than to purchase this video), is that it's every American's duty to safeguard our nation by protecting yourself and your family. "Nuclear Biological Chemical Attack!" is the only resource you need to fulfill your responsibilities as an American citizen.

Sound and Motion, Vol. 1
Released in DVD by Palm Pictures (25 April, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Chemical Brothers
Eventually this pulsating compilation of electronica videos will qualify as a raver's relic, but time will never erode the driving drum and bass grooves that comprise this 16-track survey of club hits. This isn't merely music to listen to, and these aren't videos you'll watch repeatedly with rapt attention. No, you'll want to absorb this DVD into your bloodstream until it catapults you into an altered state of consciousness, whether or not you've added any artificial inducements to get there. Besides, you won't need an alternative fuel source to accelerate with this one-stop party favor. Get yourself a big screen, a great Dolby 5.1 system, and crank this puppy to "11," 'cause Sound & Motion, Vol. 01 ain't for wussies.

Inevitably it's a mixed bag. Only a few of the videos are truly memorable, and some tracks are prone to the redundant funk that covers much of electronica's landscape. Still, the highlights are atmospheric, and the lows are never really low. The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim take top honors with tracks 1 and 2, and for sheer visceral pulse you've got Goldie, Crystal Method, and the Prodigy to kick your brains out with shock-sights and violence. That's all balanced out by the calmer tracks, notably the Indian groove of Talvin Singh. Dieselboy's video is a prime example of abstract audiovisual symbiosis, while Sly & Robbie's "Superthruster" is a treat for fans of sci-fi anime. It's a pity the directors aren't credited on screen, but that's a minor quibble. Kick back, hit Play All, and prepare to be dazzled. --Jeff Shannon

Don't Invest Your Time Or Your Money
'Sound & Motion' is a collection of music videos that features some of the biggest names in Electronica today. It starts out with two of the year's biggest tracks, 'Block Rockin Beats' by the Chemical Brothers and 'The Rockefellar Skank' by Fatboy Slim. The 4th video 'Simple Man' by Josh Wink is extremely entertaining, followed by the pulse-pounding track 'Busy Child' by Crystal Method. By the time you reach 'Poison' by the Prodigy, you'd be thinking that this DVD has real potential.

However, it's the 6th video all the way up to the Underworld video (that's 6-14) that is reason to give 'Sound & Motion' a low score of two stars. This is where the viewer slips into the Jungle/Drum & Bass slot, and these music videos are the absolute worst. The Goldie track is extremely stale, the Photek's 'Ni Ten Ichi Ryu' is highly miss-able, Talvin Singh's music video is downright annoying, and I've never been a fan of Roni Size. The Dieselboy w/Technical Itch video is the only Jungle track on here that is tolerable. Then it's the last video, 'Future of the Future (Stay Gold)' by Deep Dish and Everything But The Girl that helps to redeem this colossal mess of a video compilation.

If you want to get my honest opinion, don't invest your time or your money in 'Sound & Motion'. I know it sounds harsh, but I mean it when I say that this is a giant mess. There's too much of an imbalance between good tracks ('Block Rockin Beats', 'Busy Child','Poison', 'Future of the Future') and bad tracks ('Temper Temper', 'Jaan', 'Superthruster'). The teardown comes from the Jungle/Drum & Bass tracks, and although there is some GREAT Jungle music out there, these ones just don't cut it. My philosophy is that if the songs are bad, there's no way you'll want to be sitting through the video.

I think if a 'Sound & Motion 2' is ever planned, the people in charge should definitely do more research on what the audience wants to be seeing. I mean, it is surprising to find no Trance videos on here, and Trance is the most popular style of dance music in the world.

Two stars for weak video selection and having little to no bonus features on the DVD.

Fun but gets stale
I am getting machine drum nightmares after once around with this one. It's a bit much in one sitting. Sonic and visual it is, but even the worst movies have some storyline.

The bad reviews are BIAS
This is a great electronic videos collection. But I can see why some people only give it 2 stars. As I read some people reviews, it seem like they dont know what they are talking about. These are not your daytime "MTV videos". You would only see these videos on MTV if you are an insomiac who watches AMP around 2 A.M. For the trance listeners who made a complaint, what do you people expect on this dvd? Paul Okenfold, Paul van dyke, Sasha & Digweed? I think it is bias to write a bad review just because you are not a fan of a specific electronic genre like Drum N Bass. One reviewer trashed the dvd just because he wasn't interested in DnB. Any REAL drum n bass fans would appreciate Roni Size, Diesel Boy, Photek, Talvin Singh and Goldie even if some have better tracks than others.

I give this 4 stars because of my personal tastes. Eventhough I think Fat boy slim, Chemical brothers, Crystal method, and Prodigy are great on the DVD. I think their videos on this DVD are for a mainstream purpose since they target the average listners. This dvd would have taken a step further if it was to have Aphex Twin, Bjork, Portishead ect. But that is just me, i'm just a snob and going for that Indie/Break Through videos mentality.

Do buy this dvd or just stay up around 2 am hope MTV plays electronic music.
