Eastern Conference All-Stars

Great Underground Hip-Hop
Eastern Conference is the best underground Hip-Hop label out there right now and they finally release their debut DVD. Featuring videos from the EC All-Stars, High & Mighty, and Smut Peddlers, along with outtakes from Beetlejuice and some interviews (a particularly disturbing one with pornography afficionado Bob Goldstein) make for an all around great DVD. The biggest problem however is the format. This wasn't exactly set up all that well and you must keep going back to the menu to view the next thing. If you like EC pick this up (the "Bottom Feeders" video is legendary).

Great Hip Hop
This is a great DVD for Hip Hop fans...it showcases the skills on the Hip Hop undergrounds best kept secrets...The Easter Conference records family.
the videos are great...the beetlejuice outtakes are hilarious, and it's just ill
buy this!

BET ComicView: All Stars, Vol. 1

"Now what is we gon' do...?"
All Cedric the Entertainer fans need this DVD! I have been watching him since he was the host of BET's Comic View after DL Hughley completed his season the the popular TV show, now in it's 10th year. The reason I think I like his comedy is because I can relate to many of his jokes. His skits include: that old music where he explains Al Green and his "documentary" song "Love and Happiness", the difference between white churches and black churches, "Old School", where "Flashlight" by the Parliament Funkdelic is playing, while he entertains the audience by doing a series of dances, old and new, plus many others. Other benefits of this DVD include: Quick Clips, the skits/jokes from other comedians. If you are a Cedric the Entertainer fanatic, you have to have this one to add to your growing DVD collection.

Africando All-Stars: Live

Africando Live at the Zenith on a Sizzling Night!
Twelve cameras try to capture, and come very close, the essence and electric sensuality of Africando in the flesh. Without question, one of the best videos of a live performance bar none!
The camera work is excellent, the lighting ample but not overblown, the band in top form and the dancing is hot and not overly staged or self-conscious. People who are familiar with this African-Caribbean-NYC super group have this added pleasure to enjoy. Those not famliar with this international phenomenon, do yourself a favor and buy it. Then patch it through those woofers and tweaters of your system and turn it up!

The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings
Released in DVD by Universal Studios (29 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: John Badham
Starring: Billy Dee Williams, James Earl Jones, and Richard Pryor
This enjoyable 1976 film by John Badham (Saturday Night Fever) concerns the efforts of a barnstorming baseball team of African American players to work around the dominance of the Negro National League. Set in 1939, the swift, impressive, and entertaining troupe of personality-rich athletes easily make the viewer wistful for this level of spiritedness on a green field. While the story is a bit halting, the script intelligently reflects some of the difficulties and requirements of black players at that time to find success in the game. The excellent cast includes Billy Dee Williams, whose character is based on Satchel Paige, and James Earl Jones, whose part is suggestive of the tragic Josh Gibson, as well as Richard Pryor, Ted Ross, DeWayne Jessie, and Stan Shaw. Produced by Motown's old film division, the musical score, not surprisingly, is highly memorable. --Tom Keogh

Great baseball movie, substandard DVD
This is a great baseball movie. Great performances from Billy Dean Williams and James Earl Jones. I was a little disappointed in the transfer and the sound on this dvd, and the extras are lacking. However, this is not a commonly sought-after movie (although it should be). A great story and a great movie based on the novel by William Brashler.

Fitting homage to the spirit of Negro League Baseball
I've always enjoyed this film ever since I was a pre teen. But as i've viewed the film in subsequent years i've come to regard it as more than just a very entertaining film.

The first point that i'd like to make is that it would be very easy to look at this film as a glossed over historical account of Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson. The film is not that although three of the main characters are certainly based upon those great men. For a more historical recount, albeit with some dramatic license, I would recommend HBO's fine Soul of the Game.

I think it's difficult for many in my generation (under 40) to really appreciate the struggles and agony that most black americans endured just a short time ago in our history. This film however does a fabulous job of weaving the reality of barnstorming with the joy, athleticism and sorrow that was Negro League Baseball in addition to the pervasive racism that flourished throughout america at that time. For that alone it shouldn't be missed.

All that notwithstanding it's a fabulous entertainment. Richard Pryor is as always hiliarious. The script is very well written. At times emphasizing comedy, drama, triumph, tragedy and most importantly sufficiently representing the atmosphere and culture of much of black america at that time. But it's the performances of Billy Dee and James Earl that really raise the film from just fine storytelling to the level of social commentary and criticsm.

You'll laugh, strut, rage, and ultimately cry at this beautiful film.

very fun&uplifting film
a great tribute too the negro league players.overcoming racism&hustling owners.they defend themselves really well from both worlds and achieve there goals.James Earl jones,Billy Dee Williams, each give great performances.but Richard Pryor with his ricky ricardo take steals the show.a great look into the negro leagues.and very uplifting.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE WRITE UP ON THE BACK OF THE COVER, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, ITS A CRIME TO BE THIS MUCH MISLEAD AND ROBBED AT THE PRICE, A GUTTED CUSTOMER

When is Volume 3 coming?
I purchased the first volume of Slam From The Street and enjoyed it so much that I had to get the second volume. I am a huge college and pro fan and as a result of this DVD line I can say I am now a true street basketball fan. These street ballers do things that the pro's never think about. If you want to see outrageous action (dunks, steals, assists), you need to see this.

Don't sleep on this DVD. When can we expect more?

P.S. I bought some of the other street basketball DVD's, but this was the best I have seen. I think the directors of Jordan to the Max did this one.

Great Musical Talent-Production Quality Stinks
With some of the best musicians, scores and recording producers and equipment in the business why use "Image Entertainment"? I am now the sad owner of 2 of Image Entertainment's DVD's and in both cases they couldn't even get the action sinked with the music. I assume your buying your favorite artists music to injoy the visual and musical performance, this will only drive you crazy.

Live performance can be good
The live performance pulls out the best in Schuur. Phil Perry is another who loves to perform. Some of the other performances are somewhat timid, but for Schuur's performance this is a collectors piece.

Such an incredible performance
Carlos Vega, Abraham Laboriel, Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Phil Perry... what more can one say about such a talented and powerful team like that? If you still haven't listened to Lee Ritenour's "Collection" CD Album, you'll probably say to yourself "Okay, no big surprise" but if you take a better look at it, you'll notice that both percussion and drums are played at the same time by Carlos Vegas (In the song "Early A.M. Attitude"). So incredible! And in Ritenour's Album, the person responsible for the percussion is the wonderful "Paulinho da Costa". What a major responsability for Mr. Vega! And he pulled it off big time! And I'm not gonna say anything about Mr. Perry in the final song "Countdown". He's one of the best male singers in the world, and I'm not just saying that. You know what? Just see it for yourself!

Mommy, What's a Funkadelic?
Did you see poor Michael Hampton frowning in the background, wondering 'why am I here'? For one of the great guitar bands to release a DVD with NO guitar solos is a crime. For one of the greatest harmony groups to release a DVD where the voices are completely inaudible is another crime. And the last crime ... the greatest funk band ever should NOT attempt to do rap. The Mothership Connection DVD is much better.

average show
okay so you don't get the funk uncut still if you love p funk and george clinton you must have this since there are very little stuff about p funk on tape get this and the mothership video keep the funk alive ya'll.

I Promise 2 FUNK, I Promise 2 keep da FUNK
This concert was a hodgepodge of the P-Funk Allstars. Some old, some new. Some of the original Funkiadelics are RIP. But, it still was FUNKY for the TRUELY TRUE FUNKATEER.

Some Good Highlights But Not Really Worth It
Bull Busters: The All-Stars of Rodeo has some exciting rodeo moments, but I wouldn't suggest it to big rodeo fans. While some highlights are funny to watch and keep you on the edge of your seat, the bloopers could be better, and the movie leaves out some of my favorite rodeo stars.

Great DVD
Bull Busters is a great DVD for any type of rodeo fan, it has great picture, and great rides, anybody who appreciates rodeo will appreciate this DVD
