Yoga for Surfers II Fluid Power Yoga

Best Yoga Video, Period!
Challenging and inspiring, and beautiful, too! I really like the flow of this video -- many unique poses and variations. The production quality is exceptional, and just like YFS I, the music and location are gorgeous! I like to alternate the workouts with YFS I and do this dvd when I want to get a kick-butt workout! I hope the producers will come out with a Volume III because I'll be among the first to but it!

yoga for surfers fluid power yoga ll
Great workout for any athelete. Well produced, nice music & easy style to follow. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a wonderful flowing yoga sequence.

Beautiful production, excellent instruction!
This is Peggy Hall's follow up to her Yoga for Surfers
video. Excellent production quality and great
instruction. There are no surfing scenes during the
practice, only briefly shown between each of the three
segments. This one is shown mainly inside a studio.
Pale yellow walls, wood floors, nice. (However brief
scenes are shown outside on the beach) Here is a run
down of each segment:

Spinal Warmup:

About 8-10 minutes in length, it's a great way to
start your day. Great twists, rocking moves/knees to
chest, down dog moving into 3 legged dog. Then child
pose, plank, modified cobra with twist to each side,
cobra, up dog, down dog, standing forward bend.

Vinyasa Flow:

About 21 minutes in length, Peggy links each pose
together in a smooth and fluid sequence. She goes
through each vinyasa adding a new element and then
repeats it to the other side. Here are the poses she
uses: sun salutation vinyasa flow, warrior 1, warrior
2, chair pose (including up on toes for added
balance), triangle, extended angle, bound angle,
balancing half moon (one leg on floor with opposite
leg in air with the same side hand on floor with
opposite arm in air), floating moon (lift the hand off
floor so you are balancing on one leg only). Then you
wind down this segment with the following poses:
prayer twist/wrapped twist, modified side plank or
full side plank, then star fish (lifting top leg up
from the side plank position). You then finish with
child pose, hero pose, down dog and then finally
hanging forward bend.

Balance & Relaxation:

Tree pose starts this sequence. This is followed by
swaying palm (side bend done in tree pose), then a
flying warrior flow. Return to tree pose and repeat
on other side. She then goes into crow pose, modified
boat pose, relax, then full boat pose. She then
releases from full boat pose, going slowly down to the
ground with legs and arms outstretched. Then you go
very slowly (using your core) back up and into full boat pose. Bridge follows this sequence, then knees
to chest/rotation of knees to the right and then to left, then she holds both her feet with her hands in a
butterfly or dead bug pose. From that pose she extended her knees so her legs are straight out to the
side for a deep inner thigh stretch. Finishing this
session are lying spinal twists, hugging knees to
chest for good stretch then finish up in cobblers
pose. Full relaxations ends the practice. 11 minutes approximate time.

**Bonus section** Increase Your Lung Capacity:

Here Peggy uses the breath of fire to increase your lung capacity (and tone those abdominals!!)Overall, I loved this one more than the first. This
one is more yoga than surfing oriented. The dvd is well chaptered so you can go to any section at any time...

Denise Austin: Power Zone - Mind, Body, Soul
Released in DVD by Artisan (Fox Video) (20 May, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Starring: Denise Austin
Average review score:

a new level for the mind, body and soul
i've exercised with denise austin's TV show for a long time, but i wanted something that focused solely on pilates. unfortunately, i bought the stott pilates advanced matwork tape and i ended up hurting my neck and back.

then denise came out with this new dvd and i wanted to give it a try. after doing this program, i realize i never should have veered away from denise. her exercises are always completely safe but extremely effective (you'll feel it and see it!), she has an interesting background, fantastic music, and she looks stunning as always.

when you start this workout your mind will be preoccupied, but after a few minutes you are completely engrossed in following the routine. denise takes you through exhilarating, lengthening stretches (mind); standing pilates that work your arms, chest, butt and legs without hurting your neck and back (body); and invigorating, refreshing flowing motions (soul). incredibly, she kept my abs engaged throughout, which is exactly what i wanted in a workout routine. the best part is that the 40 minutes fly by and then i can't wait till the next time.

i recommend this dvd for any level of fitness: the more advanced you are, the more you'll be able to engage your different muscles while doing the exercises. working out with denise is the fastest and most enjoyable way to a good body.

Fun 40 minute workout!
Power Zone by Denise Austin is a very original workout. Denise combines yoga postures, pilates, and a cardio aerobic workout to give you a full body workout that connects the mind, body and soul. At a total of 40 minutes I have found this to be a perfect evening workout video.

Mind-here Denise focuses a lot of breathing and a variety of yoga postures. This is to relax you and get you prepared for a more dynamic workout to come. It's a great opener to the DVD!

Body-This is Denise's standing pilates workout. Standing pilates, your probably wondering what that is. Denise has modified some of J. H. Pilates workouts so that you can do them from a standing position. Some of these can be tough but they all work your core just like standard pilates. This is a great core workout.

Soul-Denise finishes her program with a little salsa dancing routine that will pickup your heart rate but not stress you out. This section might be a little difficult to follow at first but stick with it. It's worth it and is really fun but most importantly completes the full body workout.

I highly recommend this DVD from Denise. It's one of my favorite programs now and one I like to do 2-3 times a week. It truly is a great for in the morning to help wake you up or in my case in the evening to unwind you from a stressful day. 5 Stars!

Lightning Bolt - The Power Of Salad
Released in DVD by Music Video Distribu (02 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Nick Noe and Peter Glantz
Average review score:

Dancing in my living room!
This movie rules! Allright - enough blind enthusiasm, but this movie makes me feel that way. First off, the band, Lightning Bolt, proves everything "the powers that be" say is wrong because they don't have major label aspirations, their equipment is pieced together and repaired themselves, and they live in providence, rhode island, but they rock harder, play faster, and generally move an audience more than any studio produced band of the week any day! And there's only two of them! Now on to the movie - it's totally funny, fast, and captures some moments and feelings i've never felt watching a movie before. The camerawork and editing blew me away, and the sweet moments they captured and integrated with the incredible ROCK blew my mind. My only problem with this movie is that there isn't more! I guess my blind enthusiasm can't be held in... and i don't care!! Share this movie with friends!!

Lightning Bolt instead of school!
I skipped summer school to watch this movie my friend just got and I will never go to school again! I learned everything I need to know from the Power of Salad. It's crazy - wild shows, rad rad rad music, funny stuff. The whole movie is great - but I LOVED the last 20 minutes of mind melting apocalyptic triumphant ROCK! The editing built to be as wild as the drumming and I couldn't turn away. I saw the band live last summer and they are a total mystery living in providence, ri, and I've never seen them interviewed until now. The filmmakers Glantz and Noe I never heard of before but do an amazing job of giving a feel for the band and the touring life, while maintaining the sweet mystery that makes LB so cool. The drummer may be deaf soon, I heard, so hang onto this awesome DVD!

The cartoons are really good too. They are super weird but make me smile so I like 'em!

Nazca - Eternal Power (Vol. 4)
Released in DVD by Pioneer Video (18 July, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Benito Rabal
Director Hiroko Tokita uses every computer-generated effect and every cinematographic trick at his disposal to bring this tale of Inca warriors reincarnated as Japanese high school students to its conclusion.

The flashbacks in episode 10 complete the backstory of kendo master Tate (who is also the Inca lord Yawaru) and his previous attempt to release the destructive power of the god Iriyatesse to "cleanse" Earth. The reincarnated Tate tries again in the present, while the supporting characters switch sides, sometimes inexplicably. Tormented by his conscience, Daimon allies himself with Kiyoji and Tate's fiancée, Yuka; faith healer Kariya suddenly abandons Tate for his own scheme, somehow transporting everyone back to 16th-century Peru.

Yuka, Kiyoji, and their friends strive to block the release of Iriyatesse; Yuka and Kiyoji are ready to sacrifice their own lives, but will not harm the others--on either side. The three-way relationship among Tate, Yuka, and Kiyoji has gotten so entangled it's impossible to resolve satisfactorily--especially when it's complicated by questions of how characters who have traveled to the past can affect their own futures. But these problems won't prevent anime fans who prefer snazzy special effects to coherent story lines from enjoying the Nazca series.

Rated 13 and older for violence, brief nudity, and profanity. --Charles Solomon

Average review score:

::Crying softly:: The best anime ever!
Okay, if you like anime, and you're into Inca, Maya, Aztec, Olmec, et cetera, than you'll love Nazca.

Eternal Power is the conclusion to the four video series entitled Nazca. In this we see Tate (voice acted by Takehito Koyasu) beginning to call upon Iriyatesse. It's a beautiful conclusion to a fantastic anime.

I would whole-heartedly reccommend this video subtitled, rather than dubbed for many reasons. The masin of which is that Tate is voiced by Takehito Koyasu, the voice actor of such beauties as Zechs Merquis (Gundam Wing), Ayanojyo Aburatsubo (Magic Users Club), Mosquiton (Master of Mosquiton the Vampire), Tomahome (Fushigi Yugi), and also Kosaburo in Pokemon.

The animation is glorious, and the music, well, the music is something else. Fantastic and awe-inspiring. The opening theme, "Ai no fugue" is actually the Well Tempered Clavier Fugue by Bach. The singing and voicing of this song brought tears to my eyes. I reccommend this to all otakus of all ages, and also to any fans of the Latin American and Japanese cultures. There are some great Kendo fights in here.

Loved it!! :)
The fourth tape in this very interesting series brings the story around in a surprising turn. The re-incarnated Incan warriors continue to fight for their own beliefs, and they still form the two opposing sides that fate has brought them to, for the second time. I won't tell you what happens... ~.^ That would ruin the story, but I will tell you that if you made it through the (relatively) boring first tape, then you won't regret continuing to purchase and watch this series. The fourth tape brings in the drama and suspense that we all love from a good anime series. If you liked the first three tapes, you'll love the fourth tape!!

Roman Holiday (Special Collector's Edition)
Released in DVD by Paramount Home Video (26 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: William Wyler
Starring: Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, and Eddie Albert
Maybe it doesn't quite live up to its sterling reputation, and maybe the leading man and director were slightly miscast. But who cares? Roman Holiday is the film that brought Audrey Hepburn to prominence, and the world movie audience went weak at the knees. The endlessly charming Hepburn had her first starring role in this sweet romance, playing a European princess on an official tour through Rome. Frustrated by her lack of connection to the real world, she slips away from her protective handlers and goes on a spree, aided by a tough-guy news reporter (Gregory Peck). Director William Wyler, more at home with such heavy-going, Oscar-winning classics as The Best Years of Our Lives and Ben- Hur, doesn't always keep the champagne bubbles afloat, and the Peck role would have fit Cary Grant like a silk glove. But the film is great fun, the location shooting is irresistible, and Hepburn embodies an image of chic style that would rule for the rest of the fifties. No coincidence: she won an Oscar, and so did veteran costume designer Edith Head. --Robert Horton
Average review score:

Audrey Hepburn was irresistable from the start
This film is where Audrey got her start in Hollywood stardom.Anyone whoever sees this movie is captivated by her good looks and perfect manners. She is the perfect girl to take home to mother.Gregory Peck does a fantastic job in this film, and was so impressed with Audrey,he told Paramount Films to give her top billing along with his name.I can see why.I would definately recommend this movie to anyone who has never seen Audrey Hepburn.

Simply wonderful
What a wonderful movie! What a great romantic fantasy!
It is one of my all-time favorites, one of the films I could watch several times, without getting bored.

I don't think that the plot is important here, but the way the actors performed and the place where the story is set.
In Rome, a European princess manages to escape the rigid and boring life and have and unforgettable experience, living for one day as a normal person. She does all the things that she was not allowed to do before, such as cutting her hair, eating ice-cream, strolling down the streets and why not, falling in love with an ordinary man.

This is the role that brought Audrey Hepburn an Oscar and made her a well-known star.
It is the natural and ingenuous performance that makes her such a charming and unforgettable character, a graceful presence on the screen.

Her companion is Gregory Peck who has also a great performance and makes the film even more delightful. He plays the part of a young and charming journalist, looking for news that might increase sales of his newspaper and bring some money in his pocket.

The DVD includes also a section with a kind of "making of": interviews of the people who participated at the shooting, memories, etc. This is even more interesting, as you will have the chance to listen to the people who were involved in this project, and the stories behind the scene. You will also see that time did not alter too many of Audrey Hepburn's features and even at an older age she still looks refined and elegant.

I have one complain about this movie: 118 minutes seemed to be not enough for such a romantic story. I believe that everyone of us would like to dream about what is like to be lost in the "eternal city" for one day and enjoy the simple things of life.

One of The greatest romantic comedies of all time
What a majestic and graceful screen presence of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck! What a surreal romantic escapade!!
Very well written script and cinematography passed the time test for over fifty years and going.
Gregory Peck gives one of his signature style of delivery along with perfect cast Audrey Hepburn.
Will there ever be another Roman Holiday of modern time?

American Power Yoga, Strength
Released in DVD by C.A.V. Distribution (16 December, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

Great Strength Yoga, Not Enough Hip and Back Opening
First of all, this disc is a great deal and I would recommend it to anyone who likes power yoga. It has a lot of great strength-building movements for the upper body and some for the lower body as well. It definitely delivers what it says it will. I only have two complaints: first, the disc lacks all of my favorite body-opening poses, namely the triangle series and the hip-opening poses like pigeon pose. I find that as a result I don't feel as energized, loose, balanced and strong as when I do one of Bryan Kest's or Baron Baptiste's sessions. Second, and this is only aesthetic, the teacher's manner may get on your nerves. To me that is a minor problem and the I would definitely recommend the disc.

An amazing workout for mind and body
Having done many kinds of yoga over the years, I personally found that I was either bored with the repetition of poses or that my mind would wander. This is an awesome workout to do! Especially if you are cross training with weights or any other sport. Helps with preventing injury, flexability, and attitude. Do this workout. You will LOVE it!!

Strength
I order this DVD 5 months ago. It is a great, focused workout that takes the practitioner through every part of their body, using a calm rhythmic breathing technique to link the body and the mind. The workout is great for experienced practitioners as well as the beginner because modifications are offered in each pose. So as your become more proficient in your practice this DVD still has a very challenging workout unlike other DVDs which do not always offer modifications. I even used the DVD with an injury and used the modifications to be compassionate with my injury but continue to practice. The music that accompained the practice was a great addition. I cannot wait for other DVDs from this yoga studio.

Witness for the Prosecution
Released in DVD by Mgm/Ua Studios (15 July, 2003)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Billy Wilder
Starring: Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, and Charles Laughton
Billy Wilder cowrote and directed this brilliant 1957 mystery based on Agatha Christie's celebrated play about an aging London barrister (Charles Laughton) who's preparing to retire when he takes the defense in the most vexing murder case of his distinguished career. In his final completed film (he died of a heart attack less than a year later), Tyrone Power plays the prime suspect in the murder of a wealthy widow, and Marlene Dietrich plays the wife of the accused, whose testimony--and true identity--holds the key to solving the case. A classic of courtroom suspense, Witness for the Prosecution is one of those movies with enough double-crossing twists to keep the viewer guessing right up to the very end, when yet another surprise is deftly revealed. This being a Billy Wilder film, the dialogue is first-rate and the acting superb, with both Laughton and his offscreen wife Elsa Lanchester (playing the barrister's pesty nurse) winning Academy Awards for their performances. Although later films would concoct even more complicated courtroom scenarios, this remains one of the best films of its kind and a model for all those films that followed its lead. --Jeff Shannon
Average review score:

Classic court room drama
A highlight in Billy Wilder's impressive oeuvre. The story hinges on the abilities of Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power to tell two different stories with equal conviction. Their performances and the story are anchored by the fussy, but brilliant barrister played by Charles Laughton. Wilder does an excellent job weaving the story without telegraphing the plot twists that accompany an Agatha Christie mystery. The only fault I find with the film is the pacing. The movie takes a little long to get started, how the defendant met his wife is not really important to the story. Then the ending concludes incredibly quickly. Followed a year later by "Anatomy of a Murder" these two classics can hold their own against any recent court room drama without needing any special forgiveness from the audience for their age.

Charles Laughton steals the show...
Elsa Lanchester is brilliant as the nurse for the acerbic barrister, newly home from the hospital after suffering a heart attack; nevertheless, he continues to smoke cigars and drink brandy whenever he can be skillful enough to hide them from the ever watchful Miss Plimsill (Lanchester). Tyrone Power is superb as the charming, disingenuous ne'er-do-well, unable to settle down after the War, and inventing egg beaters that beat AND separate the yolk from the white, and other dubious household necessities. Marlene Dietrich makes a Grand Entrance, and promptly puzzles Sir Wilfrid beyond speech, with her apparent cool, collected behaviour upon hearing her husband is going to be charged with the murder of Emily French, a rich older widow befriended by Power when he assisted her in the selection of a hat. The trial is the real action and centerpiece of the movie. but I enjoyed the byplay between Sir Wilfrid and Miss Plimsill even more...upon emerging from the car when he first comes home, Miss Plimsill reminds him to "Take teeny weeny steps, Sir Wilfrid, remember, we had a teeny weeny heart attack..." to which he replies: "Oh shut up." And his threats (after she confiscates some cigars he was smuggling in his cane) "I'll do it some dark night when her back is turned; I'll plunge her thermometer between her shoulder blades..." There are many unexpected twists here, and the ending is a real shocker, a complete surprise, and quite satisfying. Great performances by an exceptional cast, and as always, IMHO, Laughton steals the show.

Funny and poignant!
Though made in the 1950's, this film retains its humor and still makes me laugh! It's also a serious courtroom drama with plenty of fun and intriguing twists!

Very highly recommended.

The Eddy Duchin Story
Released in DVD by Columbia Tristar Hom (16 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: George Sidney (II)
Starring: Tyrone Power and Kim Novak
Average review score:

Forgotten era
Music in this movie is everything. It brings back memories of great Eddy Duchin (for those who remember him). However, Carmen Cavallaro does not attempt to imitate his unique piano style and plays his well known ornate style, so different from Duchin's. That creates sort of confusion, but interestingly - helps them both: Cavallaro becomes even more popular, while Duchin's legend goes on and results in growing interest in his own, original recordings. Unfortunately not many of them are available; his
mostly pre-war recordings with noisy orchestration do not allow
much to enjoy his pianistics as a soloist. Cavallaro's separate
recording from late 50's "CC Remembers Eddy Duchin" brings back
more tunes played by Duchin at Central Park Casino in NYC and
deserves to be popularized in CD form. This movie is a jewel for all popular music lovers from forgotten 1920-1930 era...

Terrific!
I happened to catch this movie last night on AMC. I'd never heard of Eddy Duchin, now I'd like to hear more. The soundtrack to this movie is wonderful; you get the feeling you're watching George Gershwin (whom I initially thought the movie was about) during the moving, swinging piano and big band sequences. Tyrone Power was never better; he was a friend of Eddy Duchin in real life and sadly enough passed away 3 years after the filming of this movie. He was 45, Eddy Duchin was only 42 when he died. Tender love story that tells us all you can fall in love twice. But the music is what makes this film, Carmen Cavallaro does the dubbing of the piano and is terrific. a must see for any music fan!

Fabulous Music
I've watched this video over and over. The music in "The Eddy Duchin Story" comprises many of my all time favorites and includes a version of Chop-Sticks that you want to rewind and watch again. The story isn't bad either, it can drive you to tears. A great buy.

Cardcaptors - Star Power (Vol. 9)
Released in DVD by Geneon Entertainment (09 July, 2002)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Average review score:

Sakura's magic fails!
There is only one way you can determine that they skipped a load of episodes. In the second episode Sakura only made one Clow Card a star one, but it showed that she made at least 15 cards star cards.
In the first episode:
A new student comes to Sakura's class.
A new enemy arrives, and traps Sakura's friends.
In the second episode:
Because it's spirit is caught in transition, the Dash card runs away and Sakura must save it.
In the third episode:
Sakura gives Yukito a bear, but it transforms into a giant.

Cardcaptors - Star Power
This is one of my favorite videos because they have my characters in it and has my favorite episodes.

The first one is "A Strange New Beginning". This is about a new transfered student name Eli has came to Sakura's school. You think he is the good one but he is kinda of evil. And another thing, Eli is Clow Reed! Anyways, Sakura's wand doesnt work when she trys to fight this evil force. How is she gonna get her wand working?

The second one is "Running out of time". Sakura was trying to get her chores done. When Eli came by he was talking to Sakura and when Sakura wasnt looking, Eli took his powers and made Tori's bike get powerful. After all of this, Sakura was in her room and took the Clow and Star cards out. As some of them popped out, Sakura decided to release her key into the wand and transform some of the Clow cards into Star cards. She is suppose to do one or two at a time. So she fainted for only one minute. All of a sudden the Dash card got out and did something with Tori's bike. (Hard to explain). How is Sakura gonna get the Dash card back?

Finnaly the last epidode "A new set of wings". Sakura buyed a little gift at the shop for Julian's birthday after school. It was a kit where Sakura had to make this teddy bear by herself. After Sakura and her friends went to the shop, Sakura tryed to make the stuffed animal. I gotta tell ya, she needs more work to do, hehe. Eli is at this home or some place and using his key to transform Ruby Moon and Spinner Sun in there true forms. (Its one of Eli's friends or something). You know how they talk and things. Sakura, Li, and Madison are at some place outside waiting for some evil to come. And there was. Li was taking his sword and trying to hurt Sakura. Something was under his control! Li used his special card and choose the water power. The water looked like string and it was. That is because Eli got string at the store. So Sakura thought of an idea to stop this and she choose the Sword card and transformed it. After that it stopped and she fainted. At school the next day, Sakura was sitting at this bench looking at her cards and all of a sudden Eli came by and seen if Sakura needed help with her teddy bear toy. So Eli cut around the ear to make it even and so the powers went in the bear's ear. After all of this, Sakura was at Julian's house, outside, and was knocking on the door. Julian came and opened the door as Sakura gave the present to Julian. He opened it and he liked it alot. All of a sudden, the bear turned big and started to destroy some houses! Julian transfored into Yue and then the battle began. Will Sakura stop this?

These are great episodes and you should buy it if you want. They are worth your money. Enjoy!

Tomcatt
I collect animae and I've have this entire series, plus the Sakura series. I highly recommend this series, this realeace, it continues the cardcaptor series, in a cute form, that children can understand. Sometimes young children have a hard-time following or reading subtitled animaes like the sakura series. The sad thing about this series is that Pioneer, has cancelled out the rest of the series and there was 4 more left to be realeazed.
