i was there
this is the concert i have been waiting for to be put out on dvd i was at this concert in 1977 when it was a last minute change of group it was supposed to be the sensational alex harvey band but they pulled out so ac/dc got invited to play in front of the cameras and what you see and hear is exactly how it was 26 years ago raw uninterupted power rock at its best. i have owned a few copies of this on video through the years but this quality cant be beaten . i highly advise people who never got a chance to see the late great bon scott at his best.....hopefully there will be other concerts released in time on dvd.......

Quick Opinion
I encourage everyone to buy this new DVD because it's among the rare official video appearances of AC/DC on stage of this early period. It's good, solid rock and funny, although the audience looks rather like a classical music audience than Rock...!

The concert was aired here months ago on Swiss TV channel SF2 and still, I think I'll buy it as soon the zone 2 encoding DVDs hits the stores. I am sure that the DVD would aslo include some kind of bonus features.

AC/DC rules.

The Saturday that changed my life forever
This is the one, the concert that changed my life. And I wasn't even there...

It was a Saturday evening in late 1977 and I was settling down in front of the family TV to watch the Sensational Alex Harvey Band live in concert on the BBC, only to find that Alex Harvey had died two days previously. So, instead, they put on a concert by this obscure band from Australia of all places (remember this was 25 years ago and I was a quiet 14 year old growing up in sleepy Worcestershire in England) who noone had ever heard of, let alone seen live.

And there they were: a bare torsoed Bon leering at the crowd, a manic schoolboy Angus foaming at the mouth, strutting and duckwalking and sweating and sweating and, well you know the picture so well. Then there were the back three, Malcolm, Phil and Cliff who just got on and did their jobs...and if you look at the instruments they played on the Stiff Upper Lip tour last year...yes, those are the same beaten up guitar and bass that they used in 1977. (Well OK, Cliff had just joined so I think he was playing a Fender rather than a Musicman Stingray, but Malcolm's guitar is definitely the same...you get the picture)

And what did this band do? They played songs the like of which I had never heard, with a power and intensity that I had never seen (and have never seen anyone equal since) As I write, I'm shaking just remembering it all now.

Angus didn't have a wireless rig at that time, but just marvel at how he moves around the stage...and is walked through the audience on Bon's shoulders playing an outrageous guitar solo on an incredibly long version of "Rocker".

"Problem Child", "Whole Lotta Rosie", Hell Ain't a Bad Place To Be": we're so familiar with these songs now and they still give me that shiver down the spine when I hear them today. Do you remember the first time you heard these songs?

Exactly, and then... "In the beginning, back in 1955, man didn't know 'bout the Rock 'n' Roll show, and nobody jived..." Yes, they played "Let There Be Rock"... and then they finished with "TNT" with Angus punching the air in time with the title...

This concert is my Dallas 1pm. I remember it like it was yesterday, not 25 years ago.

I haven't seen this concert since that first (and only?) showing on TV 25 years ago, but because the BBC put it out at the same time on FM radio I was able to tape it, and that is what has probably helped me remember so much about it. I played that tape to death.

The irony is that this is a Zone 1 DVD, so I can't play it on my European Zone 2 DVD player, and there don't seem to be any plans to release this DVD in the UK any time soon: You Americans are very, very lucky.

I guess I'll have to spend the $75 to get my player chipped. That's expensive, but for this DVD, it will be the best $75 I'll ever spend.

To all of you reading this review, I urge you to buy this DVD. And when you watch it for the first time, remember where you were when you first saw or heard AC/DC.

This DVD is a precious record of what was their finest hour - at the height of their abilities, at the height of their passion, and at the height of their desire to conquer the world.

The World's Greatest Band

Ride On

Mighty Gorga / One Million AC/DC
Released in DVD by Image Entertainment (06 August, 2002)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Ed De Priest
Average review score:

Serious and silly all in one....
Mighty Gorga is a combination of 2 movies:first is a serious adventure, the other is a silly, campy ape comedy...I was getting involved in the serious part of the movie until Gorga showed up,then I thought "what is this?" Gorga is too silly to be taken seriously, what with all the goofy expressions, the cowlick and the "fight" with the T-Rex,but good for a laugh anyway...Notice that you don't see the bottom half of Gorga either... One Million AC/DC is a bore, except for the T-Rex showing up once in a while, but that's it..The extras are interesting....

Goofy ape movie is alot of fun!!
I thought I've seen everything when it comes to bad movies, but "Mighty Gorga" is in a class by itself! Why?Well, the serious part of the movie where they're going to the island where Gorga lives isn't bad. You're lead to believe this is a serious adventure, but when Gorga shows up,you can't believe what you're seeing because it feels like it's from a different movie.Part of it is drama and the other part with Gorga is funny..Did the director do this on purpose?? And the so-called battle with Gorga and the T-Rex is like 2 kids going at it in bad Halloween costumes...Still worth the price though...The second feature "One Million AC/DC" is pretty boring, not unless you like no story, alot of nudity, bad jokes and even non-existant acting.Remember Ed Wood wrote this..The only bright spot is when the T-Rex shows up(looks like the one left over from Mighty Gorga)and maybe the horny gorilla, too. The extras are good, too.Worth getting if you want a good laugh.

OH MIGHTY GORGA...YOU HAVE ARRIVED ON DVD
I am very happy to finally see this movie on DVD!!! If there was ever a movie to laugh at and have fun with it is this one. The gorilla suit is a plastic as can be and is never shown from the waist down!! Also, this is the ONLY movie in which plastic toy dinosaurs terrorize the hero. Tony Eisley stars as a circus owner on the verge of bankruptcy who seeks out a giant gorilla living in Africa. He travels there (actually Simi Valley, CA) and meets April, the owner of an animal farm there. After a fire is set by our villian (Scitt Brady) she has no choice but to accompany Tony on his expidition. Fun for all with plastic dinos and more flubbed lines than I have ever seen in a film before.
The second feature is One Million AC/DC written by Ed Wood!! Another pitiful movie that makes Gorga look like a classic well made film!! Wall to wall nudity and inane dialogue. My opinion on this is not good. I didn't really like this film and cannot understand why Something Weird Video put this R rated film on with the G rated Gorga.
Loaded with trailers and lots of extras, check this out if you want to see a couple of movies that will make your jaw drop. Highly Recommended!!

ROCK AND ROLL AT IT'S BEST!!
AC/DC decided to film this video before they all lost their hair and it's a good thing that they did cuz Guitarist Angus Young has lost most of it in the last 3 years.. The video rocks! AC/DC plays a lot of their old stuff that they did with Bon Scott and the new stuff too. It's a must see video if you like hard rockin guitar riffs!!! Check this out!

AC/DC's Early Nineties Castle Donnington Concert Rocks!
After watching this never before released (in The U.S.) AC/DC concert from Castle Donnington, I was amazed at the sound quality of this dvd. But after watching it several times and watching Angus Young's fingers doing his fancy fretwork, I sadly realized that parts of this concert have been doctored. That's the reason for the excellent sound, alot of overdubs. On certain songs it's obvious Anguses guitar riffs have been tampered with and cleaned up. It all sounds great, but was it really necessary? Possibly the original concert tapes were of inferior quality and this was part of the reason for the "cleaning up" as so to speak. The concert itself is amazing with Angus running back and forth doing his famous goosewalk as he strums his Gibson SG Standard guitar. The energy level certainly never lets up and the entire band sounds great. Singer Brian Johnson's voice fits well with even the earlier AC/DC Bonn Scott material such as "Jailbreak", "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be", "Highway To Hell", "The Jack", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", etc. Since this concert was filmed in 1991 AC/DC include a few of their songs from the new (at the time) "Razor's Edge" album such as "Thunderstruck", and "Fire Your Guns". There are the usual songs such as "Back In Black", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Hells Bells", "Shoot To Thrill" all from their 1980 "Back In Black" album as well as a few from other albums such as "Heatseeker" and the anthem "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)". The picture quality is also excellent on this dvd which by the way is two hours long. There's also a colorful booklet included with the dvd which includes AC/DC's 1991 "Razor's Edge" tour dates as well as information about the Castle Donnington concert. I would recommend this dvd to all AC/DC fans as well as heavy metal rock lovers worldwide.

Wow! !! what a dvd!
Ive been a big fan of the thunder from down under for years and i have both of their other two dvds.. No bull and Stif Upper lip Live. This dvd is better then both of them.. for the most part..
Angus and his guitar sound great he never misses a note.. exept in Let there be rock when his guitar sound flickers on and off when hes doing a signature move.. The set list is great. The four songs that are performed better then in the othere dvds are Thunderstruck, Back in Black, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and Highway to Hell. The bonus features in this dvd are very interesting espacially if you are a die hard fan. The 5.1 audio mix is amazing i can even here the echos and such of the croud and amps making you feel like youre there at the concert. If youre even a tiny bit of a fan buy this dvd.. if youre a huge fan buy all three of them!!!! Thats what i did!

Thank God for these Guys!
I have listed to DC Talk since the early days. I have bought every album as each has been released. All I can say is that I wish that this had been released years ago. It is encouraging to see these guys truly trying to please God through it all. It comes through in their music, and it comes through in this DVD: Toby, Mike and Kevin have their hearts on God and so should we.

Fantastic!
This DVD is a must for any DC TALK fan! If your like me and not only like a bands music, but you like to find out about behind the scenes and other stuff about them then this is for you! I have been a DC TALK fan for many years now and have all their albums, singles, videos etc and this just tops off my collection! Thanks guys! Buy it!

Free At Last the movie is a MUST OWN for all DC Talk fans
I bought the DVD for my kids for Christmas... :) We all enjoyed watching the behind the scenes perspective intermixed with excellent music videos of some of the key songs on the CD.

The story line was not "scripted" but it was more of a reality/documentary style with interviews of Mike, Kevin, and Toby (and others) interspersed with behind the scenes footage of the Free At Last Tour.

The visual quality of the movie was OK (being a series of video taped scenes from the tour). The editing was absolutly fabulous. I cannot think of another movie of this genre that I enjoyed more.

It truly is a MUST SEE dvd. Heck, for $...

Restoring my faith!
I was somewhat disappointed with the last live video from the boys (No Bull) but was blown away by this one. The digital sound is fantastic and the band is really tight. They sound great. Even You Shook Me All Night Long sounded good (I've never been impressed with that song live).

I will agree with a previous reviwer that the bonus footage could have been better. What's there is good, but it's only 10 minutes long. I also like the song selection. Sure all the usual suspects are included but I love that they played What Do You Do For Money Honey and especially Up To My Neck In You. Thanks for keeping us on our toes guys.

What the band really needs now is a DVD or 2 DVD set that contains footage and interviews from their entire career. There's got to be a TON of stuff out there that we rabid AC/DC fans would love to see. Oh well, maybe sometime down the road. For now, this one rocks. If you're a fan of the band I highly recommend it.

Huge concert, huge band
I just bought this great DVD last weekend and it has been the most exciting concert that I ever seen, the band is excellent, the crowd is really good, the songs selection was one of the best I've seen (actually I would like to hear 2 or 3 songs of the great last album), the guitar cordination it's amazing and the powerful of Brian is very very good.

The climax with the development of the concert is growing with each minute one of the greatest moments is when the band plays The Jack, you have to see it.

Good for the band and I hope to see them on the road early.

Better then No Bull and LIve at Donington( in some ways)
Wow!! this was the dvd that got me completly hooked on the thunder from down under.. I was a big fan before but this dvd completly hooked me. The music is great The fans are amazing. During thunderstruck the fans are almost louder then the music( Malcom and Cliffs chants of thunder!! are drowned out my the fans singing) I always get goosebumps watchin that song Just the energy of that song can get anyone pumped up. The rest of the Songs are amazing!! Angus and his guitar are still Rocking.. Brians voice is gone but he can still sing more recent songs well. But other then that Buy this dvd!!! You wont be dissapointed!

AC/DC - No Bull (Live Plaza De Toros De Las Ventas, Madrid)
Released in DVD by Wea/Elektra Entertainment (06 March, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: David Mallet

No Bull - No Sound
This 1996 concert from Madrid in itself was spectacular. I have listened to AC/DC for for over 20 years, and I was impressed by the energy this band displays on stage. Angus Young runs close to a marathon without ever missing a note. The mid-section, Rhythmm Guitarist Malcom Young and Bass Player Cliff Williams lay down an un-ending wall of Thunder during the 20 numbers the band plays in this concert. The energy of Phil Rudd during "Dog Eat Dog" is astounding, he lays down a powerful consistent beat for what must seem like hours to him. I could feel my shoulder starting to ache just tapping out the beat on my lap!

However, and there is always a however, I found the Sound Quality during the concert portion of this DVD to be lacking. I have Surround Sound, so I had fairly high expectations when I plugged this DVD into my player. Although the sound is in Dolby Digital 5.1 I found the background noise a little much. When you move up a chapter and play the video, the sound is excellent, so perhaps I am asking to much, but I was disappointed in the quuality of the DVD sound during the concert itself.

This DVD also has the "Making of Hard as a Rock", which I found interesting, although a little more technical information would have been nice. If you are a fan of AC/DC like myself, it is certainly worth purchasing, my only complaint is the sound.

Classic Concert but not so good 5.1 audio mix
This concert has all the classic AC/DC moments that one has come to expect from this band. Very much like AC/DC's music there are no mayor surprises - Its straight in your face rock and roll. It has the right songs, the show is outstanding and the band plays with fury. What makes this concert remarkable is the location. This concert was filmed at the Plaza de Toros in Madrid, Spain a place that is not the typical rock concert venue. The combination of the band, the audience and the venue makes for an explosive and intense evening.

The video footage was done in a movie like film/camera and this provides a much better viewing experience. My only complaint is the sound mix. I had first watch this concert on VHS and I had high expectations regarding the DVD-Dolby Digital reissue. The sound is not always as clear as I had wished for. There are times when I felt the stereo mix was much better than the 5.1 as the band and voice came across much better. The 5..1 mix has too much audience noise and this drowns the music a bit.

Nevertheless, is another nice addition to a hard rock - AC/DC collection.

About the "5.1" sound mix.....
IN RESPONSE OF A REVIEW THAT I JUST READ ABOUT THIS DVD, THE DOLBY DIGITAL TRACK IS 5.0, NOT 5.1. THIS MAKES YOU PRACTICALLY "BASSLESS" IF YOU HAVE A HOME THEATER WITH 5 SPEAKERS AND A SUBWOOFER, THIS LAST ONE WILL NOT SOUND AT ALL. HOWEVER YOU CAN FIX THIS LITTLE PROBLEM BY LISTENING TO THE 2.0 (STEREO) SOUND AND USE YOUR DOLBY PRO LOGIC DECODER ON THE HOME THEATER RECEIVER OR AMP, YOU'LL HAVE BEST SURROUND SOUND THIS WAY AND YOUR SUBWOOFER WILL DO HIS JOB VERY WELL.

Cleopatra DC
Released in DVD by Media Blasters (29 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)

High-fashion heroine a feast for the eyes in high-tech anime
CLEOPATRA DC is a rather unusual three-part OAV anime series, in Japanese with English subtitles, that doesn't quite fit the usual categories. Its first two episodes offer up plots of international/industrial intrigue, laced with broad comic touches, while the third is straightforward science fiction dealing with a genetically created android girl on the loose after escaping a secret lab. Even these labels, however, don't do the series justice. Its distinguishing feature is its perky blonde heroine, Cleopatra Corns, the teenaged chair and CEO of the super-rich conglomerate, the Corns Group. Cleo is extraordinarily sexy and parades around in an endless array of elegant, but eye-popping fashions that will have the boys in the audience silently mouthing, "Wow!" and the girls exclaiming, "Oh, that's so cool!" So there's something for everyone here: a nonstop fashion parade, sexy, proactive girls, semi-nude scenes, handsome male helpers, high-tech adventure, sci-fi, comedy and a fast-paced global backdrop that takes Cleo and her crew from New York to Nice to Saudi Arabia to the Rocky Mountains and back to New York. Cleo never has time for romance and there's never any hint of sexual activity. She's always too busy helping out even younger females in distress and fighting off the aggression of a rival corporate group.

The animation style and design date this unmistakably back to the 1980s (the first two episodes were done in 1989 and the third in 1991). The character design is quite stylized, with angular facial structures, small mouths and huge eyes, but boasts some intriguing and original touches. The girls' eyes are invariably encircled by long black lashes and contain painstakingly detailed oval pupils. The bodies are all long-limbed and slender. The backgrounds, while not as detailed as we've come to expect from anime, are rendered boldly and in bright colors. New Yorkers will enjoy the glimpses of Times Square, Central Park and Coney Island. The jazz-inflected score includes a couple of catchy songs sung in English. Overall, it's not the most compelling storytelling we've ever gotten from anime, but it does add up to a charming and moderately engaging entertainment, suitable for adolescents and older.

An angel from the underworld
Think that nothing can top the girls of Charlies Angels? Try this. A blonde girl who performs goverment missions and (unlike Charlies Angels) takes her job seriously and actually thinks. The tape contains two 30 minutes episodes and one 50 minute episode. The first episode concentrates with warfare over an oil feed. The second involves some crytals, satellites and lasers which made it very exciting. The last one is by far the best involving an android who wants to set off a bunch of nukes! The best thing I like about this movie is that it is all about political intrique. No romance or that crap you found in Charlies Angels. The music is a nice jazz mix and puts this tape on a level of Lupin 3 and Cowboy Bebop. Overall, a great video that I recommend to anyone who enjoys a good old fasioned action movie. Highly recommened.
