Now for my review:
The "Doin' It Again" show is standard George Carlin, if you've seen "Playing With Your Head" or "Carlin at Carnegie", its more in that vein. "Jammin' In New York" is more influenced by Sam Kinison, and in fact, dedicated to him if I remember correctly. He shouts, he screams, and its all to add passion to the delivery, that he cares about what he's saying, but doesn't care about the effect of what he says, which is the mark of Carlin. Complain about it, but don't care if it gets fixed or not. "Jammin' In New York" is one of the best routines ever done. So quit bashing it and sit back and enjoy!

However, let me also warn you that the packaging of this DVD is somewhat misleading. The middle picture on the right side of George performing is from "Carlin On Campus", as is the small picture of hime that appears to the left of his name at the top. "Carlin on Campus" IS NOT on this DVD. So if you are buying this because the picture reminds you of a special you've seen but you can't remember the name of it, well, sorry, you're still not going to get the one you're looking for. But at least now you know.

Legendary Carlin
If you want to laugh in hysterics and relate to ordinary every day life, you will want to watch this video. Carlin does it again, as he describes words and phrases in relation to air travel and more. He is one of the best comedians of over two decades and after seeing Jammin' In New York (1992) for the first time, I do not at all regret this purchase. This one should be in any Carlin fan's, albeit, comedy-lover's video collection. Enjoy!

Classic Carlin
This video is a perfect example as to why George Carling is known as such a great comedian. His opinions reflect your opinions you're yo scared to share. His acts are funny, as well as very intelligent. Every word he says we can relate to. When he performs, you know he is passionate in it. I'd reccomend this to evryone.

Clever
The man's an idiot............
He's very clever,... and a great reassurance to the shallow minded. Why does he bother stating the same tired, old accusations about anything moral? Time for Mr. Carlin to get a job. Sad.............

The best George Carlin performance!
George Carlin is a bit overrated.I do not feel that he is the greatest comedian ever, like a lot of people do.This is definitely his best performance. This routine is very political. It also contains a lot of social commentary. He sounds very angry in just about every routine on here.I do not like this particular style of comedy. Also, this is probably the most vulgar stand up routine I have ever seen.It uses every swear word in the dictionary numerous times. There are also plenty of sexual references. So if you have young children,DO NOT let them come CLOSE to ANY of George's DVDs.Otherwise, sit back and enjoy some good comedy.

There's No Stopping Carlin
George Carlin is one of my favorite comedians, being that he has never found a way to not make me laugh. While I enjoy his older stuff the best, his new bitter and angry stuff is funny too. "George Carlin: Back in Town" represents Carlin as he is today; angry, sarcastic, and over-the-top. And it is all executed so perfectly.

He talks about everything, and does not hold back for one second. Just when you think he can't say anymore to shock you, he does. In this HBO special he talks about abortion, how capital punishment should be televised, the sanctity of life, state prison farms, familiar expressions, and more. Plus, it includes one of my all time favorites: "Free Floating Hostility;" a very long rant about MANY things that tick him off. The title is more than appropriate for it, believe me.

I wouldn't recommend him to people who get offended easily or don't like controversial topics being jokes like abortion or religion. And he does have quite a mouth on him, so if you do not like profanity you better skip it right now. However, if you ARE a fan of the man, then I recommend getting this as soon as possible! I've had the CD for quite some time, but it's nothing like seeing him in action.

The DVD doesn't really have any special features or anything extra to offer (or at least nothing I am aware of). The picture looks great and the sound is really good. It would've been cool if there was an interview or two, perhaps a documentary would be nice. Still, it is a worthy purchase.

"George Carlin: Back in Town" is a hilarious DVD and an outrageous HBO special. As soon as you pop this baby into your DVD player, you know you're in for one hell of a ride. So strap in, get that crash helmet on, and make sure you're not drinking too many liquids while watching this... chances are they won't be staying in your mouth long since you will be laughing non-stop!

It's a Start, but it Could've Been So Much More
It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to successfully put together a "Best of Carlin" on CD or DVD. Why? Because it'd take up too much time. Carlin has done NUMEROUS bits that are now deemed classic, and personally I think almost everything the man does, is great. And yet, here is this DVD, "George's Best Stuff." Well, it is a start, but only covers SOME of the great things this very funny and unique man has said and done.

It's not a complete disappointment though. The bits and segments included are indeed funny. And, I love how a lot of the stuff included are from older shows and acts. I really do think Carlin shines the best in his older material, but the Carlin today is still very funny and on top of his game. It was nice to see some of these older bits from older shows, and I hope they come out on DVD sometime soon.

The DVD includes famous bits such as "Seven Dirty Words," "Stuff," "Al Sleet," "Dog Incident," "Fussy Eater," "Losing Things," "Driving," and much more. The DVD has a total of 17 chapters and adds up to the DVD being 87 minutes.

AH HA! There lies the problem. 87 minutes. ONLY 87 minutes?? 87 minutes for something with the title of "George's Best Stuff?" These 87 minutes should represent the entire comedy life of George Carlin? I hope not! Like I said, it's a nice start, but I think something of this magnitude should really be longer. There's so much that is left out on this DVD. So many classic bits that fail to appear on this package with the name "George's Best Stuff." The stuff that is included does indeed qualify as some of George's best bits, but I think there was a missed opportunity here. I really think more could've been done.

Is "George's Best Stuff" a complete disappointment? Of course not. Is it enjoyable to watch? Most definitely. Should Carlin fans check it out? By all means, yes. However, I really do believe more could've been done and that more could've been included. While "George's Best Stuff" isn't a total disappointment, it does leave you feeling that more could've and should've been done to honor the very title on the DVD cover, "George's Best Stuff." It's a start, but I'm afraid it is only that.

Finally! Now THIS is more like it!
Well now, it appears we've hit the mother lode with this gem of a comdy video! the reason for me stating so is that it, fortunatly and mercifully contains only classic pre '90's standup material for the absolute pleasure and enjoyment of Mr. Carlin's formerly devoted audience. I especially appreciate the presence of the '77 and '78 routines (blue and black shirts, respectively) that really stand out in the selection of "stuff" from times past that this video showcases. The material from '82,'84, and '86 is not legendary but still not too bad. However, the '88 and '90 parts are strictly mediocre and forgettable, I truly feel. Anyway, I am extremely glad that this, as well as the recent release of the "Little David Years" box set exists on the comedy album market today, in order to inspire up-and-comers and to remind us that the "Former Great" really did use to deliver memorable monologues that did more than make us laugh, they made us think as well. The most important thing for comedy fans to remember is: Classic Carlin is Cool!

Our Greatest Comedian
This video shows a score of live performance bits, including the seven words in 3 or 4 of the performance bits. It shows him at various ages from young to balding and greying where you can see him performing live. It tops his CD's because you see him live and see and hear the auduence's break-up reactions. Carlin is unique and unsurpassed. I could not recommend this video more highly.
